Good morning one and all. Let's all turn towards the door, stick our tongues out and put our thumbs in our ears waving our fingers like moose horns. I just know PC and Ryan are peeking in here.Clown

Welp, (a Midwestern pronunciation of the word "well" when used to introduce a remark), after bookwork for the church I'll be heading to Harbor Freight (I thought it was "i" before "e" except after "c". Confused) which we are either lucky or unlucky to have in Springfield, depending on your point of view. I have heard enough about these airbrushes for less than $20. They brought them up again in Sawyers thread about airbrushes, so I've decided to give one a whirl. I've got all I need as far as the compressor and water filter/separator goes. I'll probably need to adapt things down a bit, but that's minor. So I say, why not. Uncle Sammy came through with the paycheck thanking me, in small part, for my service to him today SO!..... I'm off to buy something made in China.

Spotty weather today nothing suppose to be severe. Probably rain this afternoon. Whoever wrote "Rainy Days and Mondays" for the Carpenters, obviously didn't lead my life.Big Smile

Have a Great Day!

I just stamped my foot told her it was my railroad and I'll do what I want, and if she doesn't like it she can't play with my trains, then I threw myself on the floor and started kicking my feet

An appropriate response I must say, IMHO.

Good morning.  Its a cool morning, but will warm up later.

I will try to finish up the hopper today.  Not much more to do to it.  I will post pictures later today.

Maybe clean up a bit, and thats about the day for me.

I will get some pictures later, and everybody have a good day.

Good morning.

It's 64 and partly cloudy. The high should be around 90 and it will be partly cloudy.

Finally got the tools and debris cleared off the layout yesterday so maybe I can get down to some running of the trains later. I have to mow my sisters yard this morning as there's rain due for the next couple of days. I'll probably be going to Alexandria later to raid Hobby Lobby. The LHS isn't open on Monday. On the foot surgery thing I'm considering having it done.

Good Morning--

Got some dull clouds with showers---one just went through, monsoonish---and the possibility of those t'undering boomers again. High of 20C with the low of 8C tonight--if it clears up enough. Tomorrow will present us with a mix of sun/cloud and a high of 18C.

I'd agree with that combination. I'm teasing that idea for my shortline except mine would be a little lighter in shading I think---then I'd have to get a compressor for my airbrush instead of trying to this with a little air cannister. Good morning,

Chilly 50F outside this morning.

Sawyer, the locomotives look good, what is the one in the rear?  Looks like a first generation unit.

This morning I was greeted with: What movie are we going to see this Friday?  Last Friday we saw Star Trek, and the Friday before that we saw Terminator.  Both good movies IMO.  Both days we had the theater to ourselves it was like a private screening a sign of the economy?

OK well tonight friends are stopping over to dig up some volunteer tomato plants that have sprung up in the garden.  I guess they are leftovers from last year, about 15 plants over 2” tall need to go.  Saturday I transplanted 3 clumps of black eyed Susan’s and a large box of hostas.  That should do the front flower beds well.  Trying to plant stuff to crowd out the weeds and make the flower bed low maintenance.

It's a really cool paint scheme, IMO.

So I'm having a delima. The owners of my fictional Great Western Railway set in the Southwest at the tail end of the 1930's, that is loosely based (at least motive power wise) on the Southern Pacific, a connects the Espee's sunset route to the Gorre and Daphetid by running through the foothills of the Akinback Mountains and into the desert, can't make up their minds on what color to paint the passenger equipment. See all but two of the wooden coaches and a 40' steel RPO have been disposed of. These three cars are painted Red with a black roof and Yellow lettering. The GW just purchased 6 MP-54 coaches a BM-62 baggage mail car and a MPB54c combine from the Pennsylvania Railroad (Con-Cor) to supplement the two G&D RPO's (Walthers Trainline) that are run through to meet up with the Sunset Limited. I want the do some kind of CB&Q silver paint scheme on these new cars. But the CFO (my wife) is reminding me that this would be unprototypical since most passenger cars in this era were painted green. I just stamped my foot told her it was my railroad and I'll do what I want, and if she doesn't like it she can't play with my trains, then I threw myself on the floor and started kicking my feet. She thought I'd lost my mind. Anyhow, what do you all think of a green car with a silver roof. I want to keep it somewhat prototypical but I'd like to have something somewhat flashy. Thanks guys. Oh yeah sorry about one giant paragraph, it seems Safari and the forum software don't like to play well together. I'll have to put Firefox on my new pooter.

I think I saw THAT movie.

Ran some trains tonight. Missed throwing a switch and found out the benefit of DCC. Had to back up both trains to put the switching engine back. I'm still to cheap (or poor) to switch from DC though. I'll put it on my list. I want to do quite a few more things first.

I have  to get my spot in bed before the dog shows up. Prayers for those in need.

Thanks robby!

Barry, I both used my thumbnail and my hobby knife to scrape stubborn paint off. my GP9 barely soaked, but it has been for a while now, so should be easier to get the paint off.

Sawyer: Substitute the knife with a toothbrush, either a plastic one you can scrape with the edge of either end, or one with the tongue cleaner. If your dentist is like mine, yuo likely have them out your ears and won't miss one. The Knife can (I've done it) knick the shell. (Whoops! And you get a nice gash on the loke)

That sounds like the main character in a 50/60's movie, " The Hands of Orlach" where a pianist gets injured and the hands of a deceased murderer get transplanted on to his arms----goes through the rest of the movie basically putting his hand down after it tries to kill someone---"now, now, nice hand ---don't want to hurt anyone---"Laugh

Laugh Seriously on this prototypical stuff. The longer I'm in this little venture we lovingly call a hobby, the more I do want things to be accurate. I don't think I'll achieve the lofty levels as some, but some things I would change now that I wouldn't before. But I'm not in an all fired hurry to do it nor do I refuse to put it on the rails by golly.

BUT, I will never, never, never run someone down because they don't do things the way I do. Never. By the way when did the brake wheels go low? NO!!!! Stop that!

Got the outhouses (his and hers) assembled painted, and lightly weathered tonight.  Have an idea for a "interesting scene" with them.  They will be placed behind (actually to the side) of Miller's Bed and Breakfast on the layout.  EvilWhistling

It is already in the low 40s here in Geneva.  Very cool for this time of year, but not unheard of either.  Looks like I won't get the porch sealing finished until Thursday looking at the projected forecast, but may get the garden planted on Tuesday (I hope!).

Tomorrow I am taking some equipment over to school for the High School Choral teacher to borrow so she can have kids practice with mics for graduation.  Graduation is actually the last live sound gig I will do.  I am going to finish the work already contracted and on the books, and that is it.

My cats are chasing each other around the house and wrestling right now.  Good to see them still playing at 8 years of age........  The cat next door is half the size of mine and is 18 years old.  The neighbor tells me that last week she brought home a chipmunk she had caught, and a few days earlier had killed a huge rat that she proudly brought home to show mommy and daddy.  She can still jump close to 8 feet in the air and take down a bird in flight.  Quite the hunter, she is!

Hope you all have a good night.  My prayers for those in need!

Evenin' all. Got any more of those Apple Turnovers? You have one left? Great, I'll take it and a glass of milk please.

Yard is mowed. Garage is cleaned up from door project. Graduation party has been attended. Todd is tired.

Chris- Learn and play with mushrooms? Confused I wish I could have been there.

Jim- It's easier to add more weathering later,(if it's YOU that thinks so) than to erase now. Looks real good to me. I'm envious of your first try, but not in a bad way of course. I'm very happy for you. You have a real good looking fleet ahead of you I can tell.

NSJoe- Good start on the website I'll be visiting often so keep it up.

Tom(Uff-dah and Spooky's dad)- I'm not a fan of the newer music the Methodists use either. I like the songs they sang when I was growing up. There are also a few, oh I can't think what they're called, Praises I guess? We used to sing, short little ditties, that we don't anymore. I find I'm not alone among the "older set". I guess we are just getting old. The good news is the food at the diner is okee dokee with any diet. And here (slides a cold one under the table) this won't hurt you either! Wink

Oh and Barry, you do know that KD couplers are slightly larger than scale don't you? (hehehehehe. Couldn't resist since you are in the land of Aaargh)Mischief

We too do the laying on of hands by the (we call them) Sponsors, though not on Pentecost. About 2 or3 weeks ago I believe. For some reason, and until you mentioned it I hadn't realized, but for the last couple years we haven't had sponsors. I wonder why. Hm, maybe it's the Pastors call in Methodist. Barry, careful there so you don't lose the 'having fun' part of the hobby. ShockWink It may be that the reason you noticed the trucks not matching, was that it's your layout, so you see them more often (and therefore are more likely to notice them than your visiting friend would). Now me, I'd have to go dig up a book or online site to tell what kind of trucks are on (or should be on) a freight car (let alone on a passenger car).

Funny thing is ---HE usually NOTICES these things before I do!Laugh

Hi Tom!  Sorry to hear you are still "under the weather".  Hopefully they will know what is going on soon, or at least you recover on your own.

Then she went on to let me know that she didn't like the 'new' music the Director had chosen for Pentecost, and the congregation wanted the old familiar Pentecost music that we've done for years and years, back.  I kind of smiled at her and nodded.  Kind of reminded me about the joke:  "How many Catholics does it take to change a light bulb?"  "What do you mean, CHANGE!!!???

You mean like the old Presbyterian Hymn (sung to the tune of the "Old Onehundredth - altered rhythm)?

Afternoon all from BalmyCal.  Our cool-down is in effect through next Wednesday, according to our Omnipotent Weatherpeople out here, so we should be enjoying low 80's and high 70's for the next several days.  Sure makes for nice weather to open up the garage and do a bit of railroading, by golly!

Ray:  Glad Pentecost went well for you.  Unfortunately, I had to cancel because of tummy problems, but I was in the local supermarket today and ran into one of our Saturday Vesper regulars.  She said that she missed me and that the music was just awful.  Which made me kind of blink, since my substitute was the regular Sunday morning Mass pianist.  So I said, "But Joanne's a MARVELOUS pianist."  "I don't mean Joanne--she played well and the choir sounded very good.  I mean the MUSIC was awful."

Then she went on to let me know that she didn't like the 'new' music the Director had chosen for Pentecost, and the congregation wanted the old familiar Pentecost music that we've done for years and years, back.  I kind of smiled at her and nodded.  Frankly, I wasn't that crazy about the 'new' Pentecost music, myself, but I'm there to play, not criticize.  I have a feeling that the Director's going to hear about it, though.   Kind of reminded me about the joke:  "How many Catholics does it take to change a light bulb?"  "What do you mean, CHANGE!!!??? Shock

Oh, well---Tongue

Jeff:  I too liked that diesel line-up.  But then, you had one of those ex-Rio Grande's in the consist.  Always liked that later scheme, it really meant BUSINESS, as far as I'm concerned.  How's the foot coming along?

Well, no news on the--er--ah--'digestive' problem yet, though all the tests are back.  I know what I DON'T have (Guiardia, Salmonella, Cancer, Pancreatitis, Chirrosis--and oh yah, I'm HIV Negative--however THAT test got in there--), now we've got to find out what I DO have.   But I don't mind telling you this 'restrictive' diet is the absolute PITS!   I was in the supermarket today and had to walk past the steak counter (sigh) and the raw-vegetables-to-make-a-killer-salad counter (double sigh) and settle for a cheesy chicken casserole.  Oh yah, and re-stock on Activia.  Yuk!  Should be hearing from my Dr. tomorrow, I hope.  Either that, or I call his office and very nicely say, "Just what the %&*@ is going on?  I would like to have steak, salad and a BEER before I die!"

Oh well, as Bette Davis once said:  "Old Age Ain't For Sissies."

Took some photos of my "Prospector" for WPF this weekend.  I was in Railroad Hobbies the other day picking up the last of the Rio Grande streamlined Pullman cars and talking about the train to one of the guys there.  He grinned and said, "You know that Rio Grande ran that as a NIGHT train."  I grinned back and said, "Not on MY railroad.  No WAY am I running this baby in the dark after all the money I spent on it!"  Cracked him up.

Well, that's about it from my end of the country.  Uff-Dah and Spooky send their best, Spooky said to tell you guys in the Midwest that she could certainly use some good old Iowa corn to munch on (don't ask Tongue) and Uff-Dah says thanks for the recipes for Lutefisk, but on second thought, he'll stick to Tuna.  (I TOLD him!!)

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Todd, I was noticing on my build dates on some of the cars, that some have 1957 or 1958 build dates, so a couple of years may be the best on weathering that I need for those. That, or I need to really pour on the weathering right around the build dates....Whistling

And thanks to everyone for the compliments on my 'first steps' at weathering. I suspect (as I told Johnboy in an email earlier today) that my camera may be making my weathering jobs look better than they are. I think the batteries are getting ready to die on me (when I'd go to take some of the 'after' shots, it was like the camera stopped to think about it before taking the photos Confused). So some of the color may be that the flash was lower power and the tungsten lamp behind me gave a shift to the color cast. My guess, anyway.

NSJoe - I like your website (and it'll get looking even better as you have more to put up there). Thumbs Up

Galad - take your time and plan out how you want to use your space. 24 feet is a good-sized N scale space. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll have someone who will toss out some plywood or 2 X 4's you can use for benchwork. Yeah!!  On your courses, how far along are you - freshman year, or sophomore year yet? Nice thing is, once you get past sophomore courses, you begin to get into your major's courses and it usually becomes more fun.

Ray, sounds like a busy Sunday morning for you. And Frost Advisory?? In almost-June? Sheesh! I don't think I'll be moving up that way, global warming or not... Smile,Wink, & Grin

Morgan - looks like your paint shop crew is pretty busy lately. Maybe some photos of progress before too much longer?

Chris, I guess Mr. Toad must've been an unseasoned toad - that, or Rerun gobbled Br'er Toad so quickly that he didn't even taste him. Wink

Feeling a bit better today. Was kinda low on gas in the car (and about a week to go until next paycheck hits the account), and wondering how well it would last (or if I'd get a call out from w**k to one of our further reaches that we cover, if I'm run out of the petrol on my way back in). I decided to ask one of my singles friends if I could borrow some gas money till Sat., and when she came by, she gave me the bill and said it was a gift. (Then when I went back inside and looked at the bill, it was the next bigger 'size'). Wow!! So though everything ain't covered, I have a little breathing space in the meantime. Yeah!!

Prayers for those recuperating and in need of healing or comfort. Please keep my Memphis friend Linda and her family in your prayers or thoughts. Her mother had been having memory and health problems, and I found out last night that the mother died last Monday. Almost seems like a blessing for the mother, as she's not in pain anymore now that she's home. AngelAngel

I'll sit here in the window booth a while and doodle some track ideas on my paper placemat.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I'll take an Arnold Palmer please, and a slice of apple pie with a piece of cheddar on top. Thanks for all the welcome backs everyone. Well I went to the apple store this morning and bought a new laptop, so I shouldn't be having any more troubles for awhile. Galad what boat were you on. I'm assigned to the Nevada but since she's in overhaul I went out on the Penn. I hear ya on the pleasure cruise boat, it seems like everyone came out just so they could keep their sea pay. I spent a lot of my underway time refining my ideas for my layout. Now I just need to figure out how I can afford a PSC Southern Pacific E-23 4-4-0, and a Sunset Espee M-6 2-6-0. Oh well, it's just another case of wanting too many toys and not having enough money. I'm thinking about bashing a Spectrum 4-4-0 into an E-23 and using that as a stand in until a true E-23 can be procured. And I'll just have to save my pennies until I can afford an M-6. Well it was good seein you folks again. I'll drop back by in a bit after I've played with the new pooter some more.

Good afternoon,

Thanks to everybody for the kind words on the cement hoppers...I 'preciate it.

I had a reply already to send out last night, bumped something...and *poof* Gone.

Had to w**k today. See if this doesn't sound like a South Park episode: "Children of all ages are invited to help us counteract Nature Deficit Disorder Dunceduring...Johnson County Heritage Trust's Family Day. Learn and play with mushroomsDead, prairies, woodlands, creeks, edible plantsDead, birds, tracking, scavenger hunts, and more!"

Oh my God...they killed KENNY!

The actual event was much smaller than the press release indicated, but got a lot of good shots of kids playing in the creek, and a guy showing mushrooms to kids. Easy to shoot, editing shouldn't be too tough...and not a whole lot of writing required. Tomorrow, I get to try to contact "the Bug Man," and a few other more business-feature oriented leads.

Time for a tall, COLD lemonade, I think.

Oh, JIM, you were asking about Rerun eating the toad... he was a very young puppy, Mr. Toad hopped by, Rerun grabbed him and probably wanted to play with him...like squeaking his stuffed hedgehogs. I think Mr. Toad might've "squeaked" once...and that was it for him. I didn't even know it had happened until I saw a toad leg sticking out of Rerun's mouth... *gulp* GoneDinner. The only nasty effects I saw were the...uh...err..."remains" that emerged later that evening and the next morning...Whistling

Have a good'un everybody...

Afternoon everyone!

Church went well this morning.  Since it is Pentecost and the reception of the Conformation Class all on one day, and as the Moderator of Deacons, I had one of those Sundays where I needed to be in 3 places at the same time.  All the Deacons who were to serve communion showed up as promised and did a great job, and I managed to get into the "North Parlor" where the conformation instructions were given just as they were finishing all the instructions for their part of the service.  The kid I was partnered with was glad to see me (I think he thought I wasn't going to show up) and had a big grin and a very relieved look on his face when he saw me.  Our tradition is a "laying on of hands" from the partners and after that taking a stole we wear off and placing it on the new member.  Makes for some good drama in the liturgy........

Got home from that, had lunch and went to work in the trainroom on the outhouses I started last night.  No sooner got down there than my son shows up with my granddaughter, Olivia.  He was going to work on his boat trailer.....  Olivia had other plans and we ended up down at the playground where Grampa and Olivia (and son) had a great time for about two and a half hours....  Some things are more important than the trains.  Olivia did get to see one loco run and I let her carefully hold a boxcar for a bit.  She is going to be a Jr. Engineer before you know it!  She is fascinated with "Pahpa's" trains.  Mom and little sister Emily were at a Tupperware party this afternoon.

The Finger Lakes region is under a "Frost Advisory" for tonight so it may be a good thing I haven't got the garden planted yet.  I will bring the peppers inside tonight.

Have a good day everyone!
