Thanks for the validation. I've been a constant viewer of this forum (a few posts here and there) and have learned much that I have applied to my layout.
I am a huge railfan also (though I rarely satisfy that need!) and agree with your 'foamy nonsense' remark, and could probably guess who you're referring to--- but I don't wan't to start a flame war! That does nothing good for either hobby.

Does this imply that model railroaders are more 'healthy' than railfans?
I'm both (but not sure about the 'healthy' part!)
I hope to soon post pics of my Santa Fe layout (under construction, but lower level completed)

Thank you!!!! And welcome to this side of the tracks. The people here seem to have a much better understanding of the intent behind this topic. It should have nothing to do with food, and everything to do with good conversation.

I'm both a modeler and a railfan too, but not everyone is. There are not very many of us who post to both forums. Maybe 100 that do so on a regular basis. Many of the members over there don't bother to come here.

Frankly I'm a little disgusted with some of the foamy nonsense that goes on over there, and one person in particular. I think you'll enjoy hanging out with this crowd and you should fit right in. As always the goal is to have fun.[8D]

Here is a railfanning note for y'all. If you are ever in central or west-central Missouri and want to take some interesting photos, my little town of Otterville has a great spot. There is a cut bluff here with a roadside park on top and a busy UP main running at the bottom. You can practically stand on top of the trains as they go by. It even has a little history, as Jessie James and his gang robbed a MoPac payroll train there 100+ years ago. The traffic here is all westbount except two daily Amtraks headding KC to StL (two also head west daily). UP freights are mostly empty coal and intermodal trains with a few mixed freights and an early morning local twice a week. You won't have to wait long to see a train as we average 50+ trains a day on the Sedalia sub. Y'all come on by, enjoy the trains, and be sure to stop by for a cup of joe (I live 1/4 mile from the tracks and about 2 miles from the roadside park).

Does the HMTL have to be on to post a photo? If so, how does one switch it on?

Thanks for your help anybody.

If you can't see it in the preview, it won't show in the post. Those URLs are case sensitive. HTML should be off, and forum code is always on unless you switch. Is your attempt still out there, I can try and help.

Teffy: I'm Back on the 15th of September. As far as Hurricanes go Lisa is the master forecaster! I don't know how she does it as I was the one who took Meteorology at college she can pedict a hurricane's track well in advance she starts talking upper atmospheric mumbo jumbo and convergances etc etc etc. I must have slept through that part! Hopefully "Earl" will die a quick death and leave you be. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Der: I can't help you with the posting thing sorry. There have been previous threads devoted to posting pics. You may have some luck there.

All of our local TV stations have been putting us on alert. Past history shows that any hurricane that goes south of Cuba usually ends up in Mexico, Texas, or Louisiana. Our water table is also low and that's not a good sign.

Fergie:

I've lost the paper that I had when we talked the other day and I don't remember when you were going to be back home in early Oct. Would you either send me an e-mail or post it on the forum?

The weather man is supposed to let us know either this weekend or early next week weather it's comming into the Gulf or going up the east coast. I have a bad feeling about this one.

Have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Just saw a CSX freight with a CEFX AC4400 and a CSX SD70M. The train had stopped to wait for a stopped intermodel. I saw it start up again and boy it was loud. You should have seen the exhaust plume!

well today was a boring day. i didn't feel like doing much of anything. i heard a train while i was in my room tonight and it sounded like it was going through town so i said ah the heck with it i'll let this one go. well then i heard the whistle again and it sounded like the train was slowing down. so i sat there debating whether to go after it or sit at home. i should have gone because i could have gotten to it easily but instead it let it go. i haven't taken a picture now for so long its ridiculous.

Packers are on, gotta watch that.

About the only railroad related thig was a day before sudden decsion, but we went to the Illinios railroad museum on Saturday. It is a really great museum. We got a ride in the cab on one of the coach trains, which was really neat. We had a great weekend, but I'm glad to be back as I'm bushwacked. I'll see you guys tommarrow.

At the IRM you wouldn't have happened to see Orsonroy/Ray Breyer, would you? He just e-mailed me, told me that he got to go up there and ride behind the Frisco steamer they have there! Lucky NKP fans![:D][:p]

I've yet to get a cab ride in ANYTHING, and living by the KCS doesn't help, with all of the anti-railfan stuff they have going on...[}:)]

Wonder how much rain we're getting tonight.
Finished wiring the fiddle yard, and now am on to building up the terrain around the first of four tunnel mouths. Can't get too carried away in glueing down the foam as I have to provide access hatches to get at equipment in the tunnels which have passing sidings.
Regards, John.

I believe they are calling for over an inch. I don't mind rain it's wind I'm not too fussy about especially as I'm back to sea Wednesday and going out past Baquereau Bank and Laurentian Fan (In the middle of Hurricane Season!)

I picked up three kits for the trip this time so it keep me occupied for a while. I also tried the building painting tecniques as suggested in MR. and to tell you they don't look bad though the kits still need some more work.

Fergie

Hello all. Got back from my vacation in northern Michigan, Traverse City to be exact. There's an excellent hobby shop there. I came out with a P2K SD7, an Athearn RTR UP Boxcar, and a book called "Modern Locomotives, High Horsepower Diesels 1966-2000". The only other RR related thing I saw was a Tuscola and Saganaw Bay RR Co. (TISBY) Road Railer. It's to bad I wasn't in Cadillac, just a few miles south of TC. Pere Marquette 1225 was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back Ron and congrats on the new addition to the roster. It's been same O same O here. People drink their coffee leave a tip and come and go as they please.
Hopefully we haven't lost anyone to Charlie!

It looks by the pace of the Forum a lot of people are on vacation or busy with other things.

Fergie

Ron: I'm new here since you left. Congrats on the newborn, BTW.
Our TV news showed mainly empty stands at the Olympics, maybe the Greeks don't like being told to eat McMeals, and to drink the real thing![:D]
Can't get you caught up, except to say that TEFFY is planning a trip North to see some layouts in late Sept/early Oct.
Regards, John.

Hey all. I'm back after an extended leave of absence from here (like 2 months). The new baby and Summer craziness (t-ball, swimming lessons) with my other 2 kids as well as a busy summer schedule at work kept me away. But I'm back now. No way do I have time to read 2 months worth of posts from here, so y'all will have to help me catch up on the highlights. I'll have lost of time to read here for the next 2 weeks while I watch the olympics.

The chicago railroad museum was a great one too. Set in an old roundhouse also with all kinds of stuff outside. the day i went they recieved a new F unit and were giving rides with it. Its too bad the roof on that roundhouse collapsed. Countless millions were lost and the museum was closed[:(]

Just posting to see if the Signature works on Quick Reply. I updated my forum profile by adding a Signature today, but it didn't show in either of the two replies I posted in the Coffee Shop today.
Any suggestions if it doesn't show up here?( Include Signature box is checked in this post, didn't notice if it was in the two others which were generated from Quotes.

Once again thanks for the help.

Yeah, and I forgot to mention that most of the noise is probably due to the fact that I glued the track directly to the foam. (white glue, you can move the track by soaking the glue with a very damp cloth until the glue has turned white again) Where I have the track on a sound absorbent roadbed on the foam without ply there is no noise problem.
Why did I do it? Ah Grasshopper, to save money on roadbed in yards that are flat sheets.
Oh well, more cash for locos and a dcc system!

Thanks Phil. I see that several people were concerned about you and other Floridians, and for good reason! It's been sunny today, which is a surprise. Now clouds are gathering. However, I think that we will be on the edge of what is now a dying system.
My mother in law cheerily informed us at lunch about Danielle brewing up on Charley's heels.
Blessings, John.
