Ed [:)]

The veggies were cut up into medium size pieces but took forever to cook. They and the roast were put on about 8:30 Saturday morning and sometime this morning were finally done. The roast turned out well. I took it out last night. I was very disappointed in the veggies thought. The onion had no flavor at all, I guess maybe it was too big. The potatoes were ok. [:p]

I updated the thread about meeting Teffy. You can go there to check on it and him. Don't forget to leave a reply. [;)]

Thanks [:D]

2) is this a good idea? any supporters??? (I'm not intending to ruffle feathers, it's not a soapbox for me, just a thought)

Krump, It shouldn't matter how many pages long the topic is, you are only loading the one page that you are looking at. What type of connection do you have? I have cable, and have noticed slower loading with Fergie's logo. He needs to work on the file size there.

There is no way for Bergie to do that, so we would have to start over from scratch.

Krump, I only find it slow when there are more than about 4 pictures on the page, then it takes a while. Other wise I don't notice anything.

Got the control pannel painted, now just got to install it. Thankfully the Packer games not till 3:00, so I should be able to get the board in with my dad's help by then, and while he goes and watches the game I can get it wired. Touche Ed!!

Good Morning All

A glorious day so far. Went for a 18 Km bike ride and the fall colours are just starting. So hopefully Bob and Stef will arrive when it peaks.

Krump: The logo is on hold right now for the simple reason Freewebs told me I exceeded my monthly bandwidth quota for the month.

Anyway I now have a Rail Images account and all that is left is adding photos and this will take a couple of days.

Anyway have to run as we are off on our fall pilgrimage to the Annapolis Valley.

As always
Fergie

Morning All !
it's a nice and sunny morning overhere, the winds died down - for a moment -

Looking at the peacefull weather outside, I feel sorry for all of you in the south east part of the US still dealing with those hurricanes and storms , specially for the elderly and disabled, like Phil's friend. The weather aint fair to you lately.
I must say I admire the way you all seem to help and care for eachother.
I hope everyone gets through safe !

this slow loading topic also could be caused by browser settings on your computer, wich operating system do you use? or what kind of connection do you have?
maybe changing some settings could help.

Tom W. and Jim:
Note that those were not my models, Dave Lotz has giving me a BRHS brochure and a BRHS calender, but I believe asking for those units he custom-painted would be a little too much to ask![:D][;)] I've never seen the Sesquicentennial (Dave's name for them) units in person but he has told me a little about them, I just showed them to give you guys an idea of what I'm thinking of modeling. I prefer the Redbird (on the GE model) scheme myself, I think I'll use that for all of my locomotives, as for deciding which locomotive to buy and paint first, it will probably either be Kato's SD70MAC or Life-Like's P2K GP38-2. I believe Dave models the 1940s-1960s. Here's a link to a BRHS page telling more about Dave's layout:
www.burlingtonroute.com/mdepot/mbrmodel/lotz.html

So far the things I like about my modern CB&Q are that I'll be able to have some KCS stuff, plus I'd be able to model someplace close to here, since the Q had many lines around this part of the country.

Jim, Will visit that thread, headed there next.

Ed, well, the control pannell never did get done, so your not behind. All I got to do was to sand the edges down. Got to go visit my grandma, then played some tennis with my dad, and by that time it was time for supper, then I went to check on here, and now it's getting dark. So much for that job. Oh well. I'll just have to paint it in the morning before church, and then install it in the afternoon.

So long for now,
Noah

When did you put this in the slow cooker? How small did you cut up the veggies? We usually get ours at around 7 hrs on low heat, but I suspect it's done before.

Saw the thread on the meeting. Good for you. Thanks for the report.

Tough situation. I'm like you in that I don't have any answers either. I suppose, (assuming the best and that he makes it through the storm with no major problems) keeping in touch by phone or the occasional visit would always be welcomed. It's hard to imagine yourself in a situation like that. I suppose that people can get 'tired' of fighting it.

Slight progress on the control panel this afternoon. At least enough to claim that I didn't totally blow it off. Think it's time to tackle the multi-pin connector. [:O]

Well this historic meeting of Jim and Teffy is over. Film at 11, or you can go read the thread called, "Meeting Other Modelers/Forum Members is Cool". <Hint Hint, and don't forget to leave a reply. [;)] >

Roast is done, but the potatoes, onion, and carrots are not, I couldn't wait, and have had some already. Cook potatoes cook, cook carrots cook, cook onion cook, Jim is starving. [:p] [;)]

Well I went to bed at 4 this morning and got up at 8. I think I am tired but my brain is too tired to know. [:0] [B)]

I learned some stuff today about DCC and that was cool. [8D]

Well time to fall out, I am tired. [:(]

Don't worry Elliot, if I wanted to cheer for a winning team I could have my pick of the others. It's an atonement thing. Strange though, when you're watching one of their games you're never really expecting that they'll pull it out, rally, or even hold on to the lead. You're just waiting for the collapse. [:(]

Ed, I didn't have anything to do with it. I've been watching them self distruct, like that blowout in New York last Saturday. That first inning had Bambino written all over it. Last night I went to the bowling alley and saw a few minutes on TV. They were winning in the 4th. When I checked the scoreboard later, they were beat again. Now it looks like Santana will take the Cy Young from Schilling. Some things never change.[sigh][:-^][swg]

Hi to all you Florida folks. I can't think of anything reasuring to say , except we're thinking and praying for you all. Ivan did another turn and left us high and dry. Could have used some rain. Crazy storm. Anyway hang tight.

Noah; I'll be 62 next month. I still fell like I'm twenty something. Wife says I act that way too. I guess that's why I'm always so sore in the joints. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Been here since 65. Enjoy your youth, too soon you get old.

Jim; I haven't run across any of the types like that yet hope I don't. Best to fill Bergie in and let him handle it.

See Y'all later. Paul

Phil, Emerald, and Fla Eastcoasters,

What is going on !?!?!? I can't believe the storms this season. Everyone just hang in there.....We only have
a little while left this season.....I mean, how many more hurricanes could possibly come this way? Of course
if someone had told me that four would hit the Sunshine State back to back in one season, I would have
ask what they were on......Rare occurance. Good luck guys..... l'lI be watching TWC very closely. Let's hope
this one will be the last for years to come. Dave

BTW I have a pile of branches and other assorted tree parts in my front yard 25' long and 8' high, and I'm
not done yet.....

Okay, full stomach, time to quickly check, in then check out (on the couch, afternoon naptime).

Jim - you know, after I posted that I thought to myself, "Self, you should have suggested just a quick message asking Bergie to review the situation." Probably a good idea, then continue to ignore said poster.

Pressure cookers are very common in much of Mexico (not necessarily where we are) because of the high altitude in the center of the country where the big cities are. Almost a must when you're living at more than a mile high.

QUOTE: Some of the forum members laugh at my drawl ...

Funny, I never noticed it here on the forum.................[(-D]

QUOTE: Of course those that laugh are all Yankees anyway ...

That's "Damn Yankees", if you don't mind. [:D] Actually, I have another adjective for the NY Yankees after they took another one from my Bosox last night. I just don't know why I bother to watch televised games at this stage of the season. I already know the script. It's the 'Curse of the Bambino'. [:(]

QUOTE: Has anyone ever made . . . Prickly Pear Cacktus Jelly ..

Haven't made it but have tried it. It's okay. It uses the 'pear' shaped fruit of the cactus. Down here, those are a popular fruit. Tons of tiny seeds that you just have to agree to swallow. Not a real strong flavor. Watch the stickers!! [dinner]

Now jalapeño jelly, there's something to try. Sweet but with a bite. Fairly common in TX and NM I believe.

As usual, good luck to the Florida contingent.

Hasta luego,

Jim, My opionion? Your not over reacting at all. I sure hope Erik gets this mess sorted out. he can block out and ISP number, can he? That would be something he might want to try in this case. If you haven't yet, I'd drop Bergie an email to make sure he knows about it.

Hope teffy is doing good out there on the road. Waiting for full report sir!

Well, I made first human contact with another model railroader in my Town this morning. Went to the Local library, and when I went over by the magazines, another person was reading the MR! He's an older man in his 60's or 70's, and he has a HO layout too. He always goes to our church, and I see him every weekday mass that I serve as altar boy at. Little did I know he was a Model railroader, but now I do. So I am not alone in town here as a model railroader. It's nice to know.

Work on the layout progresses. I'm hopeing to get the board installed or at least painted for my new control panell today. I also have measuements for my new buildings, and I might use one stock kit I saw at the new hobby shop, and scratchbuild the other. I've got to check the dementions of that building first though, to see if it's big enough to fill the space. It'll be a few weeks before we go down to the LHS again, so I can't wait till we do.

Well, thas about all from the Wisconsin front today, and this has been Paul Harvey, and now you know the rest of the story.

Well this is it troops, JEANNE is coming in and is tracking to make landfall in FT Pierce, about 40-45 miles to north of us. NHC is saying we should get winds of around 65-75 mph, about the same as what we got with Frannie but the storm will move through a lot quicker, so exposure will be a whole lot shorter. We'll probably loose power but I'm hoping that it's restored by the next day, like with Frances. Anyway we're all battened down and ready. Glad Dave made it through ok, see you guys on the flip side, I hope.

Ed [:)]

Thanks for the advice. Bergie (Erik) does want our help and input concerning things of this nature. He has said before that he cannot read every thread and monitor every post. He does rely on us to help point out things that should be addressed. I am just trying to determine IF I am over reacting on this or not. I do look forward to other opinions though to balance me out or tip the scale in one direction or another.

I have not heard from Teffy this morning yet. He said he would call me from Texarkana, which is on the state line. Part of the city is in Texas and the other part in Arkansas. Depending on traffic and weather he could be here anywhere from 1 to 5 or 6 pm. I have the cell phone ready. Guess I should jump in the shower and get ready myself. (Traffic should be very heavy today, and there is a ton of road construction in the area. Weather is cloudy with high humidity, not really raining, just a few sprinkles here and there. The temp is in the lower 70s but with the humidity it is pretty unconfortable. )

Ed, come on down. Or Up as the case may be. [;)] A roast just sounded good and I like the crock pot for doing it. My parents cooked them in a pressure cooker, but I doubt many of us use them much anymore. I really miss the canning of "things" from the garden and making home made jelly. It's shake n bake Dadddddddy, and awwwww helppppppppppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeedddddddddd. Wasn't that original commercial a hoot. I will never forget that little girl's drawl. Some of the forum members laugh at my drawl when we speak on the phone but it is nothing compared to hers. [:D] (Of course those that laugh are all Yankees anyway [;)] ) When we "canned" I was very little but helped as I could by carrying things and moving them around and outta the way.

Here is one for you all. [:p]

Has anyone ever made . . . Prickly Pear Cacktus Jelly ? One of my friends who is originally from the southwest used to make it. I have never had it but it sound like something to at least try once. But FORGET the rattlesnake meat, you can have my portion of that.

Well I guess I should head for the shower, after walking the dog of course.

Take care everyone.

Good morning Coffee Shoppers,

Hey Dave, good to hear from you again. Glad you didn’t have too much damage. Hanging out and shooting the bull on a message board is more fun than storm cleanup, but I guess that clean-up has a higher priority!

FlaPhil and other east coasters, time to batten down the hatches again. You guys really p’d someone off this year.

That’s what travel is for, Mitch. The bad thing is that so little operational steam remains (in comparison to the huge amount that once existed). The good thing is that most of what’s left isn’t going away anytime soon.

I’d just ignore the issue and the poster. That’s the low stress, low blood pressure, easy response. Even if you’re right, you’re not the forum administrator and it’s not your job to police the forum. If he was already booted once, I’m sure the powers are also aware of this new presence. Ignore his threads and do not respond to his posts. That’s the most effective way to deal with troll behavior. And remember, we are awaiting an on-the-spot report on “Teffy – World Tour 2004” later today.

Okay, enough of me stalling. Time to get to work on that control panel wiring. See you later.

I meant to tell you the models look great. Nice job on the painting, you have two fine looking models there.

Let me get your opinion on something. Remember a while back I talked about a forum member in the trains.magazine forum? Well it appears he was booted from the forums. And IMHO, rightfully so. He boasted of being the "Trains Magazine Resident Hobo. He also boasted of riding on trains not as a crew member but as a Hobo. One of his threads was deleted because he used very inappropriate language. Another one of his threads was deleted because he claimed to have just ridden a CSX train into the upper midwest. Well I truely believe he is gone from the forums under his old nic. However, now we have a new person using the nic . . . Kissmycaboose7 who claims to be the Hobo's mother. I thank this is an affront to the forums members. The more I see that nic and think about it . . . well you know. Am I being too "old fashioned" or is he thumming his nose at us, or worse?

Carpenter Matt changed his pic. Now it is a Pensky engine. I really liked the other one much better. But it is neat to see other stuff too.

Cool. Man I would love to see things like that. Over here we have no operational steam locomotives that I know of. I wish I lived in America.

Krump and Tom, Big Girl was behind the camera when this one was taken, it's her favorite. There we were all alone at this tiny remote grade crossing, in the rain, 15 feet from the tracks. She meant to catch the front of the train, but the recycle time of the camera was slow, and the train was moving at over 50 MPH. Those verticle streaks in the photo are actually rain drops. Sometimes I wonder who she likes more, me or the Empress. I guess if it wasn't for me, she'd never have "met" the Empress.[swg]
