Good Evening all, not much train time the last few day, Wed. the boys headed off in search of a new LHS I Spoke to the owner and he sounded like the right type( nice but not pushy) to me, so I got directions from Map Quest and headed out, found the place no problem but... the shop had moved so I went over to my regular shop. The owner is great but his train selection is very small, I can order anything I want  but who wants to wait? So I went home and check the address, that's when I realized I was using last years phone book If I had gone just a short distance past my usual place I would have found it and from the sounds of things(both from talking to the owner and from the name of the shop it looks like this is all or mostly all trains<got to get in there just need the time).

Today I had to help my sister in-law with packing up my mother-in-law's house to get it ready sell, need the money for uncovered medical care she's in a nursing home(final stages of cancer)6 grand a month but she's in so much pain most of the time they're able to control her pain better than we could. So any way that's life I 'm afraid. Sorry for the gloomy post it's just been a hard day, so I'll say good night.

Grayfox,  Tube radios brought back some memories of Ft Benning and Radio Maintenance school in the 50's and then 4 years of experience in the field up to Comm chief in a Sig Corps unit.  I do not even know how to read a modern schematic any more.  But EgIp curves stuck with me even when I never needed them.  And I found that when I got into DCC I could still read resistor codes.  Thanks for the memories.    TARP

Howdy again folks, just a quick check in before I turn in for the night.

PC-Good news on the tresspassing front, alls well that ends well I suppose.Who knows in twenty yeasr you might be able to laugh about it ( or at least bore the grandkids with the story )Still lomd distance telephoto shots can be very nice Thumbs Up [tup]

Inch-It is  a bit sad to know that 103 won't run again, but the pioneer villiage hasn't got the funds or the facilities to rebuild her to running status. they are actually landlocked, it was shipped 20 miles by two flatbed trucks to get to it's new home.Stll at least it's cared for. Thsi pioneer village speacializes in finding preserving and restoring old houses and buildings. They have over 50 buildings on the property all moved from spots from all over the province all ranging from 1790-1885 building dates. They actually have approx 20 acres of bush and land with the buildings forming a little town, quite neat little set up.

Lisa-Sorry to hear aabout your M-I-L, hopefully they can control her suffering. We will keep her in our prayers as well for you.

Well folks the bed beckon's nite all.Zzz [zzz]

Mornin all, just some coffee for now Janie

70 and sticky out, still waiting on the rain to move in. got the mower off the yellow jacket nest after dark, won't be parkinh it there till I get them killed off.

DICK, know about vacuum tubes, I worked on tube radios n tvs. First one I worked on was a 1928 RCA battery radio, that belonged to my great granddad, then work in tv repair shop for awhile in high school. Feller down the road still works on them some, has all the testers. We still had some tube equipment in the AF back then.

LISA, sorry to hear bout the MIL, we'll keep you'll our thoughts. Just remember there be better days ahead.

Heres a story for the day

Subject: Pecans in the Cemetery
On the outskirts of a small town there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.
"One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.
Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me."
He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off.
Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.
"Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard! Satan and The Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls."
The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk?" When the boy insisted, though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.
Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.."
The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' me the truth. Let's see if we can see The Lord."
Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of The Lord.
At last they heard, "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done."
They say the old man made it back to town a full five minutes ahead of the kid on the bike.

Not got a whole lot planned for the day, gotta trip to Casey this morn, may get in a little yard salein in. J birds coming to spend the night, and Mothers talking bout taking her her n Leroy to Monticello to ride a train [both train nuts] tomorrow. if the weather holds. I'd best get started on the mornin chores, hope ya'll has a good one

Good Morning All!

Coffee and a bagel please Chloe.  Thanks!

First and most important.  PC - Glad to hear your not a jail bird.  Had a feeling cooler heads would win out.

Welcome to the new folks and Happy Birthday to the older folks.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Busy day yesterday.  We upgrade this computer.  Still trying to get these back to where we would like them but it's nice to see things what we have working at full speed.  Only one set back, the mouse died.  We had no problems with it until we had everything closed up and running.  Fortunately, that is the only set back so I'll take it.

Watch for my rant on NCE.  If it does get deleted I'll be surprized but NCE has it coming.

Lisa, sorry to hear of the family situation.  Things like that can be very tough, I know.  I'll be parying for you and yours.

I wanted to thank everyone for thier support in my "issues" I've had lately.  You have all been a source of encouragement during this trying time.  I leaned on you all, and you were there.  Thanks!

Thank you to everone who is praying, yeaterday was very hard, it was the 1st day we started the packing and even though I knew my MIL was going to die I think it realy hit home with soting and  packing her stuff up. It bothers me sometimes that all the siblings are not helping neither with the packing or with the expenses but they're quick to let Mom know what they want from the house, I guess it just doesn't make sense to me. Oh well I can only control my own feelings not change anyone else.

Like I said, these things can be very hard to deal with.  Some people don't deal with it well.  They act in ways that they wouldn't normally act.  They don't mean anything by it, it's just their way of coping.

Lisa, just keep focusing on God and pointing the way to Him for those around you.  He will support you in your time of need.  Trust that!  I can attest to the fact that he'll be there for you.

As for the brothers and sisters, just keep pointing them to God and let Him handle the rest.  If you believe that He's really "in control", let Him take the wheel and drive.

Lisa: Hang in there. Do as Phill said and things will work out. I will add my prayers for your MIL.

Cloe: Mary Ann had baked a cake for Phill. We were going to take it to him in the lock up but since he has percerviered I brought it here for everyone to have a piece. So cut it up and give everyone a piece of cake and a cup of coffee on us. Oh, yea, Be carefull cutting it . There is a hack saw and a couple of extra blades in it. Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]

I'm here at work again. The marketing people had a bright idea of opening some rides for the season pass holders early. That way the season pass holders get a couple of hours of ride time before the crowd gets in. Sounds great but then those marketing folks don't have to get the rides ready 2 hours early.Disapprove [V]

I didn't sleep well last night. Infact I think I only got a couple of hours of sleep total. Monday it's back to the dentist. I guess I'll have to see his nephew for a root canel. Get it done and get rid of the pain.

I went to the preview and must say that the light printing is very hard to read. I would like to see if Bergie could do something about that.

I'm going to duck out now. I'll see you all later.

Good morning everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday, especially the still working gang.

TARP & INCH53 : WOW, I didn't think there was anyone still alive that remembered vacuum tubes, etc. Plate current, Screen voltage, grid bias, uEg, Ip wow!!! Hey guys, I actually found my Allied Radio Tube tester that I built from a kit way back in 1959!!! And it still works !!!

Your joke reminded me of one that is and oldie. A little boy came to his mother and said, "is it true that we are made from dust, and after we die we will return to dust"? His mom said , " yes, that is true son". The boy replies, " well you had better come quick to my bedroom because someone under my bed is either coming or going" !!!

LISA: When I was in NH in June, I found a LHS at Hampton Falls, right on Route 1. That cannot be too far from Raymond down Rt101 to Rt1.
We have your MIL in our prayers Lisa, she is in trusted hands for sure.

ED: I think you are safe from Ernesto, as the projection is to take it north into the Gulf and not towards the Mexican coastline. Here goes the gas prices again!!! Just when it dropped down to $2.88 today.

Talk later gang,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Greetings all,

Been gone a long time so I guess I'll be a long time playing catchup.

Lisa, sorry to hear about your MIL. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Well folks it looks like we may have an Enersto in the gulf by mid week. I really feel threatened now. What with a house in Louisiana, and a house in Mississippi. And they say this storm could come to Mississippi or Alabama.

Welcome to all the Newbies, and Howdy to all the Old Folks.

Inch, Liked the story of the two boys. Reminds me of the time when I was agout 7 or 8 years old, we, a couple buddies and me, were going home one nite and decided to take a short cut through the cemetary. Wasn't bad going in but it seemed like we would never get to the other side. Can remember thinking we were going to fall into an open grave. Wen we did get home I can remember sleeping under the covers that nite head and all. It was summer with no fans or air conditioning. But it was safe. Never went through there again.

See you all later.

Good evening CS people: Not much in the way of mrr these days with the grandsons here.

Dick:

It will make him feel like the man of the house too!!!
…unfortunately that’s the last thing he needs, as he’s done too much of that already, and everybody suffers for it.Sigh [sigh]

If you get an 800mm lense, you will be able to stay on "public" land, anywhere in the country, and get great shots.
..Hmmm… can anybody say Area 51? Wink [;)]

Ed: That split AC unit sounds like the AC equivalent of an inboard-outboard!Laugh [(-D] How are the two parts mounted?  Just curious.

PC:  Glad to hear your ordeal may be having a sensible conclusion.Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike:

Still can't help picturing you in jail bird stripes.
These days don’t they make you an instant Orioles fan?Big Smile [:D]

Lisa:  Your LHS hunt reminds me of the search I made in London ,Ontario, this past July.  I had the name and address correct, and the map showed the street where it was meant to be.  However, as I drove down that section of street #s, there were only private houses, no stores, no business signs on the houses, nothing.  Frustrated, and out of time, I gave up. Later learned that the LHS was indeed in one of the houses. You had to know. Banged Head [banghead]

Sorry to hear about your m-i-l’s situation.  Pain control is important; have you a Hospice service available? They are generally terrific at that.

OZJim: That SD45-2 should please TEFFY, whom you have yet to “meet” here, I think.  Here’s a SD40, with a Cnd$0.99 Mexican Mango

Time for bed again.  Canoeing tomorrow if it’s calm, maybe get a fish or two?

all, and God Bless.  Prayers continuing for everyone in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

That split AC unit sounds like the AC equivalent of an inboard-outboard!   How are the two parts mounted?  Just curious.

Depends on the details of the make and installation, but I'll tell you how ours are done.

The compressor sits outside, preferably on a small concrete slab (ours is bolted down to our concrete roof with small expansion bolts).  This is really just like a central air unit, just smaller (usually).

The air handler, with coil and fan, is mounted inside.  In our case one is bolted to the wall, and the other is supported hanging from two rods that are embedded in the wall.  (In an earlier house, this unit was hung from the concrete roof).

A central air system would have one large coil and fan, with ductwork to/from the rooms.  The minisplit unit has no ductwork, so there needs to be a separate compressor/air handler for each area you are cooling (there are multizone units).  But unlike window units, the compressor is outside, so there is significantly less noise inside.

Between the two run the two coolant lines, to the compressor and from the compressor.  I suppose there's a practical limit on how far apart the two units can be.  In our case the total run, includin bends, is about 20' on the farthest one.

There will be a small drain line from the air handler to route condensation to the outside.

Here's a page from one manufacturer.  Scroll down around half-way until you get to teh section on mini splits.

Regards

Ed

Good evening all!

Lisa: We will be praying for your family.  Went through the same thing with my Grandmother.  It's not easy especially when the rest of the family decide to go AWOL.

Still trying to get a handle on the computer upgrade.  We got some really neat new programs but the learning curve is always rough.

Well off to bed.Sleepy [|)]Zzz [zzz]

Good evening all, a slice of Pizza and a Coke for me please.

Lisa: The best of luck to you and yours. I know how it feels to have a relitive going through that.

Well, today has been a pretty productive day for me. Went to Wal-Mart and picked up a Norscot scraper. Its amazing what we've been able to find at Wally World lately. Then, I came home and worked on the railroad.Big Smile [:D]

Yesterday afternoon was pretty interesting as well. (I didn't have a chance to post much yesterday, so I'm doing it today!) From Hopkinsville, I headed 13 miles or so north along the CSX Henderson Subdivision to Crofton, KY, ate dinner at the Crofton Diner (a very good establishment, I might add), and chatted with the local police for a while in the city hall parking lot. I heard the crossing arms go down, looked up, and saw a long Union Pacific coal drag. I watched it for a while and heard another loud rumble. It was a helper SD90MAC in the middle. You don't see that around here every day! (the Crofton City Hall is right next to the tracks, by the way. Very good viewing from there).

Well, I guess I'm gonna leave you all with that for now, happy railroading to all!
