Good Afternoon, Chloe, I’ll have a nice cold root beer float, please. Yep, and an order of fries, too. Thanks, Noah for buying.Smile [:)]

PC I’m glad Noah gave you a (remporary) reprieve from the top o’the page bills. Otherwise, you’d have to tell the bank you want a loan on your (not-quite-finished) house to pay for the bills in here! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Excellent pics of that grain elevator, by the way. You’d just need a box of corrugated scale siding, a few windows, and a lot of dull silver and ‘rust’ paint.

I’m not even sure I want to try catching up on all my reading here... It’s been tooooo longggg...My apologies to anyone who I miss.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Lisa - it’s been a while since we regularly had a (non-virtual) lady in the Shop. Don’t listen to what our twin servers, Zoe and Chloe tell you about some of the guys (Flip?) - their bark is worse than their bite. Sounds like you’re just starting on your layout building - will it be heated in the wintertime? I understand up in the Northeast it does get a tad chilly. Might make for some brief operating sessions once you get the trains up and running, otherwise. Enjoy the Shop - it’s a fun place to come sit a spell. That corner booth is good if you like railfanning, too.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] also to Hoople (and to anyone else I may have missed)! Is that the MR layout Cripple Creek design? I probably have it in one of my books at home - I have way too many layout books. I understand that 'need scenery' phase of your layout - but there are some ways to find bargains on the scenery. Do you get any train shows close by your area?

Inch, no wonder you got woke up by those trains, if they’re that close to your campground! Or did the rumble wake you up before their whistles did?

Our brief break in the weather here in Missouri is mostly over - it is back up into the 90’s (F) again. But the humidity is somewhat better, and the Cardinals even broke their losing streak (FINALLY!).

Nigel - your cell phone does pretty nice on the pics, even if it’s not a full-fledged camera. Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Paul’s comments on the nice curves on that end of the layout. Even if it isn’t prototypical, it still looks better to my eyes with some curve to track (unless it’s a siding, and even then...)Wink [;)]

Luc, hope the Dr’s. appointment will show some signs of progress for her. My Angel [angel]Angel [angel] are with you and her both.

Any word from Fergie, or is he still off chasing polar bears way up north?

Adam - Shock [:O] Say it ain’t so, man! Oh, horrors, gone over to the Dark Side!... Evil [}:)]Wink [;)] Seriously, though, I wish you the best - (allegedly called) Normal scale does allow for more track in the same space. Now, if my eyes were about 20 (or more) years younger, I might consider N scale... (Well, no I probably wouldn't - I'm an HO scaler at heart.) But whatever works for you, man.

OzJames, sorry to hear about your eBay Censored [censored] jerk - Sign - Ditto [#ditto] the comments about the difficulty of maintaining a 100 percent as a seller. I’ve become spoiled by several people I’ve bought from on eBay, who use USPS Priority Mail (which is quite quick here), and when I’ve bought where the other seller used regular mail, it seemed like it took forever. But I guess I just have too much of my Grandma T’s sayings in me - she said if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. So, even if something seems like it takes a long while to arrive, I’ll give the seller good comments on the packaging, or that the item was of excellent quality or as described, etc. As others said, there are a few of those Censored [censored] out there who can mess with your day. The key is to not let the 1 percent ruin it for you, and remember how many other reasonable buyers you have had. I don’t expect a seller to have 100 percent, and if I have any questions on their feedback rating, I’ll look and see how long ago the negative was (sometimes it was a year or more ago, and the seller’s had lots of satisfied buyers since then). If you have more stuff to sell, keep doing the right thing, make your pics as good as you can get them, and your descriptions accurate, and you should see that jerk’s feedback fade into the shadow of the huge pile of positive ones you’ll accumulate.

I got a few more building kits in the past few weeks. I got another of the RDA (Delaney Iron Works) kits - they thought my first one hadn’t been sent from my last auction, and sent me another. After an email or two to clear things up, I asked if I could just keep it for the same price as the previous one I'd bought, and pay them come my payday (which effectively was yesterday). I also got the McGraw Oil Company (the newer Walthers one), which looks nice. I’ll probably get the GC Laser kit with the walkways and scaffolding that goes with the McGraw kit. Suppose I need to get the layout ready enough for me to build some of those buildings, huh?Smile [:)]

On the layout itself, I got the cuts figured out and made to raise the mainline tracks a little from the engine facility and industrial areas. Have started fastening the plywood to supports (from underneath), and I'll need to go get some more wood for the risers (which will be very short, but wider for the double tracked mainline). Grayfox, my apologies - we don't have a Home Depot here, so I'll have to settle for someplace else (Lowe's, likely). Hope you don't lose your parking space because of it. Wink [;)]

I also got some of the other Walthers ‘western’ backdrops that they’d had on sale. I may also paint some of my own backdrops, since I found that some of the Walthers ones (such as Mountain to Desert and Desert to Mountain) are only mirrored duplicates of each other (wish I’d known that before I bought them). I'll have to start from some photos and do some sketches before I tackle that.

Well, finished up my root beer float, so I'll be going for now. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and Angel [angel]Angel [angel] for those in need (which would be a lot of us, depending on the day).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Looks like there hasn't been a joke of the day for a while....So something from the flight deck...

A pilot gets on the PA system and tells the passengers "Folks, we're losing
fuel for some reason. We're over the middle of the Atlantic. At the rate the
fuel's leaking, we have no chance of making it to land. Please follow the
instructions of the cabin attendant while we try our best to land safely in
the water".

A gorgeous woman immediately freaks out. She stands up and yells "If I'm
gonna die, I wanna die happy. Which of you men is going to make me feel like
a woman?"

A guy stands up, takes off his shirt, gives it to the woman, and says
"Here - iron this!"

Gumby: I like that joke!

The eBay saga continues... The LATEST email I recieved from this guy, he is now saying if ebay will not get him his money back, he will take it to the magistrates court...Shock [:O] this is a quote: " I fail to see why you are getting so upset . All that has happened is that you sold something that is not "as advertised", big deal, just refund the money and it is all over. If you do have a genuine receipt as you claim (but have failed to produce), then have the camera fixed by the manufacturer under warranty and resell it or keep it.

If it does go to court (and it will), you will have to pay the costs as well and these will be significantly higher than the cost of the camera.
Just for your information, I do not need lawyers to file a claim in the magistrates court, I just walk in, fill out a claim form and they send you a summons to pay the claim, including costs. If you fail to pay within 14 days you will be sent a summons to attend court and defend your actions. If you fail to attend court you will be found guilty and required by law to pay, simple. If you do not believe me, call the magistrate court and check.

It is not  your fault that the camera is faulty, but unfortunately it is your fault that you sold it in that condition when claiming otherwise."
--Some of it has been edited to protect his identity--

I know he is just trying to intimidate a 17 year old kid, he thinks he can break me, by threatening court action, he isn'y going to get anywhere by doing it. I think if these rather harassing emails continue, i will go to the police and press charges...but i have the full support of my family, if it goes to court,  my father said he would pay for a lawyer etc. but even if it does go to court, he won't win, there is no laws protecting this, plus i'm a private vendor and i'm pretty sure you can't sue a minor (under 18 years).

as for the Mrr'ing i've repainted my roads again they are a more asphalt colour now, which looks more realistic. it also shows the lines better. pics this weekend maybe...

all for now

Hi Gang:

Steve: Hope that you get to feeling better soon. I'm glade that you had it done. It sounds like that could have really messed you up in time.Shock [:O]

Oz: You hang in there. It's good that your folks are standing by you. There's a tree on my sons place by the Brazos river that was used to handle a few folks like that jerk. Angry [:(!]

We had a thunder storm move through while we were in town eating. It rained hard for a time. I thought for sure that we had gotten some rain on our place but when we got about 4 miles from home the ground was dry. No Rain. It did cool off for a while but it will be up in the 100s tomorrow again.

I guess I'll head for bed. The flea problem is solved for now. I went down in the basement for awhile and no bites. Now to get to MRRing, I hope.

See you all tomorrow.Zzz [zzz]

Now I think is time you report this guy to ebay for harasment and threating you . This is getting out of hand. I think you need to get your parents involved in this.

Should he take this to court I would point out it worked when he bought it and he had it for 10 days before he started complaining. Anything could have happened in that time either by accident or whatever you sold a good camera in complete working order when he came and got it. If he checked it out in front of you point that out. If you have receipt offer it to him again thru your parents. The main reason I say thru your parents and get them involved so he can see he's dealing with more than a kid.

Good evening folks.  We are hosting grandchildren again.  Our granddaughter has brought her goth friend, although, thankfully she herself has worked that through her system.  So they are all tenting again.  The friend is spending most of her time being “pale and interesting”, which is very funny! Also, super polite this time around, thanking us on every occasion, even for “letting me use your wash room”.Laugh [(-D] (…and the alternative is???? Clown [:o)])

Was able to get a small rail-fan episode in. The plastics factory I mentioned a few weeks ago has this filling stand down the spur from it.

and the factory itself sees the end of the spur, at the bins.  My attempt to model any of this will not be as complex, but it sure gives me ideas!

Nigel:  That’s some impressive trackwork, never mind picture quality!Thumbs Up [tup] http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h134/ngartshore350/Model%20Railroad/Backdrop01-01.jpg

Adam: Welcome back,

put a wood floor in the train room and i have started the benchwork for a new N scale layout. Thats right you heard it I am switching scales!!!!! Im soo excited i cant wait to get some track laid.

Yeah! One more Normal person!Approve [^] ....Paul, resistance is futile![Wink [;)] Evil [}:)]

RT: Yes, that’s hard to go through.  It’s easier to say than experience, but just know that it isn’t personal, her not knowing you. She hears the love in your voice regardless of her response. Our prayers are with you.Angel [angel]

CapeJim:

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] " style='width:30.75pt;height:34.5pt'> Paul’s comments on the nice curves on that end of the layout. Even if it isn’t prototypical, it still looks better to my eyes with some curve to track (unless it’s a siding, and even then...)
Absolutely!  Couldn’t agree more.  However, on the subject of NTongue [:P]

Hoople:

It sucks being a 11 year old on a budget right now.
….Never mind lad, it sucks being 66 and on a budget…and I know what you mean about the blue foam mountains, I’ve got lots of those too.Big Smile [:D]

OZJim:  Good for you! Don’t back down to this jerk.

As for the roads, I’m having trouble getting the “right” look too. Way too dark, most of the times I repaint. Ah well, one day I’ll hit it, and fall over with surprise!Big Smile [:D] I’ll probably also not have made a note of the paint mix. Not that that helps, as even if I start out writing down a formula, I generally just keep adding a dash of this, and a drop of that until something useable turns up, and the formula bears no relation to reality.Blindfold [X-)]

All seems quiet out in the yard, so it’s probably safe to get to bed.

Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.Angel [angel]

Hi all,

Inch/Jerry: I'm thinking there needs to be some clouds too, might be a cold front come through soon.Smile [:)] I was thinking of air brushing them?!

Paul/ Jim: Little curves? Sorry I'm a bit slow today, you mean smaller straights and more curves? I used the "Easy easements" article in Model Railroader to add easements on all the curves.

der5997: Thanks for the compliment!

Steve: Get well soon, sounds like it would bring tears to your eye's!

OzJim: Where does this guy get off?

Nothing much else to report, back at work. Moday here in Oz already!

I know how you feel.  Wish I could but family and job do not allow it.

Well on the road again folks.  I may get a chance to "borrow" a computer and stop by.  Also, there is a little home computer upgrade in the future.  That may keep me offline longer than the rest.

Have fun and be safe.

Good Morning all.

Nice sunny day today though I work from 2 to 10 pm. Gloria is progressing well. She has surgery coming up at the end of the month for repair a hernia which is causing a lot of pain, once that is completed then we should see good progress. Thank you all for your kind words.

Good to see the CS is still very active and attracting many new faces. A warm welcome to all of you and keep on coming back.

I heard from Polar bears that Fergie is still up there, they sent this photo of their feelings

ATTENTION ALL HO USERS

Mornin all, coffee n acouple of Bill's doughnuts Zoe, since I'm buying this round.

Hot with a chance of thunderstorms today, Mothers sick, think she's got the same bug the kids had the other day, n I'm not feeling the best. Hopefully I'll not have any kids today.

CHEESE,  good to hear from you, can't believe you'ed be changing scales too the dark side.

RT, thoughts n prayers for you n yours, hang on to the good times. Enjoyed the photos, how much weight you lost, you look some thiner.

PC, that mill would be great to model, but I don't have room right now. Maybe when I hit the lottery n gets my dream layout.

PAUL, another proud redneck here, and we live in two trailers stuck togaither. Got a 78 ford truck in the front yard [don't run], and a pile of pallets and junk.

STEVE, I think you have looked better, hope you gets well soon.

JIM CG, the trains aren't that close [I use a little zoom ], and we're use to hearing them, so they don't bother us most the time. Every so often they sound like their coming through the house for some reason

GUMBY, liked the joke, good one

JAMES, don't know bout down your way, but here, he's waisting his time in the court house. Just don't tell him every thing you've told us, best to keep him in the dark with your plans.

DER, thanks for the pics, it would make an interesting model

Not a lot planned for the day, gotta a DVD burner for the computor yesterday to put in, and work on the shed some. Need to get it done this week, so We can get some pellets on the summer prices. May post a couple pics from Mattoon later on. Hope ya'll have a good day

Good morning to all, Woke up to rain here, I had planes to help neighbor with her bushes but if rain doesn't stop I'll need to work on it another day.Looks like I may get to work on my train after all. Looks like I miss out on a lot when I miss a day here but my Sundays are so full with church and family that I don't have the time to check in.

Jim in Cape, good to meet you and don't worry I make my our oppions about others and so far everyone has behaved themselves. I definetly find I am in the minority( as a woman modeler) but I've always been a tomboy so nothing new. I'm not sure now that I'm 40(today) if I can still qualify fpr the term "tomboy" but... Yes I have a heater in the shed but last winter I was in the dining room so I'm not sure how cold it might get. This is actually my 3rd lay out, we bought a train(HO) for my son Owen's b-day last year so I started out with a 4x4 layout very boring, so I build a table in the dining room and had a great time all winter, come spring Tom(my husband) banished me to the shed. With having to clean it out , rebuilding the table, ect. and the heat my newest lay out is going up but slowly.

That's it for now.

Well hey there y'all.

Alex: Market lights? I don't know...They shouldn't be too hard to do. I was thinking about getting a pair of white flags however. Not quite the same, but hey, they both go on the smoke box of a steamer.Wink [;)]

Inch: Loved the "Why Parents Drink Joke." That was hilarious! Laugh [(-D]

Happy Jack: Yeah, I haven't heard anything from anyone. So I think I might just get the car painted or decaled when I can. I'm not using it for any profit purposes. Strictly private/recreational. No money (except mine for the job) involved whatsoever. And ya know, all great heroes need an arch rival. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I'll be the Pennsy, you be NYC...And then we'll become a comic book before long. And in the last chapter, we combine our efforts...And go bankrupt. Clown [:o)]

Steve: Glad the surgury went well. Hope you make a speedy recovery.

James: Man, you are having one helluva time with that eBay guy, aren't you? Just hold to your stand. It's not like you rigged the camera to break after a few days of ownership. He tested it, he knew it worked. It would be my guess that he did something to it, and wants to be a Censored [censored] about it.

Ryan: I have not seen the wiggling fish hitch cover. Sounds almost like that Big Mouth Bass thing that sang on the wall. If you have a link or anything, I'd like to check it out.

PC: I post at; Trains.com, NTRES, GrandMarquis.net, NScale.net, Rails of the World, and sometimes Bachmann.

Adam: Welcome to the Normal club! Since I may as well be in Sykesville as a resident soon enough again, I can help you with your layout if you need/want any!Cool [8D]

Okay y'all, here's the thing. I'm not sure how much I will be doing on the forum for the next few weeks. Family problems have ensued, and as of now, it looks like I need to prepare for a move back to Sykesville. I've been waiting for this, and it's finally going to happen...Or so it seems. So, if I don't post for a while, I'm just in a transition between two places.

Talk to y'all later.

Jerry, I have been doing a little work on the module, although probably not as much as I should be. But I’m slowly chugging along making a little progress here and there. Out last show was back at the end of April, and out next show is coming up at the end of September. So I’ve been working on having a significant chunk of stuff done between now and then. I’ll have some progress pictures to post sometime in the next few weeks, and then of course from the show in September.

Happy B-Day [bday] Lisa. Hope that you have many more. Is hubby going to get you some train stuff?

I'm going to head out now. I've still got some things to check out in the park. I'll stop back in this evening.

Good morning all buddies and budettes! How about some Go Lean Crunch with fresh blueberries and strawberries on top for breakfast starters.

We joined the local YMCA this weekend and enjoyed a few hours at the pool for starters. I swam about 8 laps in the indoor lap pool, and boy do I feel it this morning. We hope start a regular exercise routine and begin getting back in shape and loosing some weight too.

Ben finally got a bow this weekend and I showed him how to shoot target archery, he did fairly well for having only been exposed to archery on two brief occasions at Cub Scout camps a few years ago. The beginner’s 15 lb. bow is a start, and he did hit the target most of the time from 10 and 15 yards. After he gets the hang of it we will have to get a bigger target for the 30 and 40 yard range. (Does anyone really read my ramblings in this forum?)

I reorganized the train room this weekend, making room for the next phase of the benchwork construction and sub-roadbed/roadbed construction. Also made some purchases for scenery and painting, got some patching plaster, Portland cement, and plaster of Paris, tempera powder paint colors, and some India ink. I am going to attempt to follow Joe Fugate’s scenery techniques. I am considering making a small diorama to practice the techniques first, and then apply what I learn on the diorama to the “real deal” later on.

Trolley Rob, Yep, retail and food service industries are very similar in hours of operation, very few service industry folks get to work “regular” hours.

IndySon, the 24’ X 32’ train room should be more than enough to keep you busy for some time! But I wish I had a space like that, my train room is only 15’ X 16’ and I still have plenty to keep me busy.

Inch, I skipped the mowing this weekend, worked on the inside chores on Saturday. Nice pics you got there, are the peanuts ready to pick?

PC, that is more rail fanning than I have done all year, so you are still way ahead! Nice pics as always! The grain mill photo essay is great, I have a Walther’s grain mill kit still to build, and those photos will come in handy when it is time to put it together.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back Cheese3! Glad to see you made it back into the CS!

Steve, here’s hoping you have a swift recovery! Glad you here the procedures went well!

Scott, I saw the fish on a pickup hitch on the highway home from work one day a few months ago. I am not sure where you can find one, but I could research it for you! Good luck with the home front issues!

Happy Birthday Lisa P!   Happy B-Day [bday] Happy B-Day [bday]

Happy birthday Lisa,  I'v tried to quit having them to no avail.  Getting older is like toilet paper.  The closer you get to the end of the roll, the faster it goes.  Coming up on 71 in a few weeks.  You can be a tom boy as long as you want if I can remain a child.    TARP

Just a few more minutes to go and I'm out of here. I just have to find my relief and let him know that he has it and off I go. Big Smile [:D]

See you all later.

Jim,

Yeah, but mainly in November-January time range.
And yes, this is the 1990's MR cripple creek.
i have the book that has the articles, Except I'm not going completely by the book.
I can't find a club thats close to my house really...
Hopefully next train show I'll find one.

GG I will start ballasting today. I have some groundcover my uncle gave me(from the 70s....)
So I think I'll go buy some scenic cement and get some grass down.

Sorry if I missed any one who tried to talk to me. I don't want to read everyones storys.

Mark

Edit: Jim, The one show with all the booths and such is usually in march. Or the one in Puyallup is sometimes in november. The one in downtown seattle I never really know when it will be.....
Mark.
