Good afternoon to all, it is 88F here at noontime with a DP of 71F, man it is HOT out there. The pool water is at 78F so we hibernate there.
Did any of you guys happen to see the 2 hour special on the Discovery Channel last night on Global Warming? Now the scientist say that it IS a fact, no arguments from some of them now, the data doesn't lie. If the level of CO2 continues to rise at it's present rate, then the oceal levels will cause water levels at the seashore to move inward 500 feet. Florida, most of it, will be under water ( quick Flip, get the boat ready!!!) as well as Philly, Washington DC, NY, Boston, London, and all seacoast areas around the world. That's IT, I'm riding my bike from now on.

Washington DC? Hmmmm. Might be an improvement. I wish that it was that cool here. It's about 103f and that is not the humidity corrected temp. There is no wind and the park really smells like a gym locker at the end of the school year.

Fortunately it's almost time to go home. I'm going to stop by and see my friend who had knee surgery. He's in a re-hab center for a few days until he can get himself dressed and get around some. He and I went through flight school together some 41 years ago. Ohhhhhhh do I feel old now. He's in HO and a very intelligent fellow. Right now his biggest problem is his layout has a duck under. We're trying to figure out a way to change it without re-doing the whole thing.

So I'll say so long and catch you all later. By the way. Nobody seemed to noticed that I bought this page. All Right.Smile [:)]

I wish my work was not so far away, I would love to ride my bike every day for the commute. The 30 miles each way and through many hills would take about 2 hours to get in each day, then the ride home would be hard too.

Let's here it for more rail commuter travel, saves time and energy too!

Think I will stop by the Home Despot on the way home and pick up some 1/2" wire nails for putin down some cork roadbed tonight.

I have my cup ready RT, I am so dry !!!! It is after 6pm here now in Massachusetts, but the temp is 89 and the Dew Point is 73F!!!!! I have never seen the DP that high here. It has hit 72 rarely, but 73F at this latitude is really abnormal. Is there any doubt about Global Warming?? I think not.

PAUL B. Ya, I know you have it worse buddy, I don't know how you do it down there in Texas for so many more months than us at 72N latitude. Even our pool temp is 80 right now and that is where I am headed.

Evening all -
Hope this finds everyone in good hands this evening. Just got off the phone with the CFO. She had to get new license plates - $43.00 Combine that with the detailing ($100) and emblems ($25+) and a new set of nails ($40+) this whole vandalism thing has cost us over $200.
Any yes, I agree with the attitude of the cop in the video - just makes me feel like they're not going to do anything about it. Unfortunately, that is the local Sherriff's Dept for you. I was hoping it would have been a 'Town' cop as they're more optimistic about these things. I gess the best thing is that not only the Sherriff's Dept, but also the local village and town cops patrol the complex as well. So, I hope they (town and village) will be patrolling more frequently as the Sherriff's patrol the whole county.

Well, since I am at work, and have not much else to talk about at the moment, I will get going. I hope to stop back in a little bit for desert!

Take care!

Good Evening All,

Finally back from Pittsburgh and reregistered though I suppose it will be a while before we're all comfy again. The new format is easier for us seniors to read, but we'll leave the jury out on the sense of putting the reply on the top of the previous input, no?

I would have been back on last week except I needed to go through all the rigamorough of deciphering the reregister stuff. Still haven't sorted out railimages either, but who knows miracles do occur.

Pittsurgh went well - we ran 7 cars, 4 Lotus 18's and three Lotus 7's. Over 150 cars entered the event this year and we had over 30 cars in our race group where normally there were 20. Not bad on a street course. Ran my own car (Lotus18 formula junior) and qualified third but lost a cylinder when a valve adjuster backed out. Was able to repair the damage and finshed second to a Lotus 11 and first in class. All the rest of the cars we started in the race finished as well sort of a new record.

Submitted the plan to redo the RS-11 at the museum and am still waiting to hear from the president and the board to see if it's a go.Other than that no train news at all.

LilRob - sorry to hear of your troubles. We'll add yours and the Nix family to our prayers.

I'm off to try to catch up on the rest of the news CUL, J.R.

Evening everyone.  Chloe, Ill have the biggest, coldest rootbeer float you can make.

JP, Embarq (formerly Sprint) started advertising DSL service here a couple months ago.  To get it at that time I would have had to get a whole package of services I would never use and commit for at least a year.  I decide to wait until the cable service is available.  I'm not sure DSL is actually available in this specific location.  I live about five miles from the nearest small town and suspect it may not be available here yet.  The advertising was probably for the county in general.

Ken, you should have let me know you were going to Strasburg.  I could have met you there.  I get there about once or twice a year and haven't gone yet this year.  I met Bob (bjdukert) there last year and we had a good time.

LilRob, sorry to hear about your loss, makes my own current problems seem much smaller.

Temp hit 97 here today with a heat index of 110 degrees and high humidity.  Weather report is calling for hot all week but with gradually lower temps.  Wouldn't you know it, my air conditioner decided to quit working.  The repairman is coming on Friday.  Lets see, my sump pump quit during the worst rainy period of the year.  Now my AC quit at the beginning of the worst heat wave.  Maybe I should just go ahead and schedule a furnace repair for January.Sigh [sigh]

I don't think I'm going to be doing much this week.  It was 85 in the house after work, with all the ceiling fans running it's down to about 80 now but still a bit uncomfortable.

See you later, I have to go sweat for a while.Tongue [:P]

Hi Gang:

Richard: After 40 years here I have become somewhat used to the high temperatures. As I’ve gotten older I have more trouble handling them though. Usually these hot spells don’t last this long. It seems as if the whole country is hot.

RT: I really think that those cups are a little small. May be two drinks would be in order. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

JR: Nice going in the race. It sounds like you guys had your hands full getting the engine repaired so fast.Thumbs Up [tup]

Ryan: I used a staple gun to attach the cork roadbed down. I haven’t used any glue so I have been able to take it up when I have wanted to change things. That has happened a lot so it’s worked out pretty well.

Well I’m going to head for bed. Have a Good Night All

Evenin Zoe, ginger ale for me tonight. Thanks.

Miae is a bit under the weather tonight. She's watching TV in the bedroom. I'm fine and want to keep
it that way. Maybe I'll sleep in the trainshed tonight - not!

Looks like I'm buying! Get the little cups please!

RT:
I just love the picture of your floor! Why is it upside down?

Attaboy: If only I knew! I'd have loved to meet you there. Jamie loved everything, but I think he liked Cranky most. He rode it seven times! I was really dissappointed that we couldn't get out into the yard at the museum. That's what I wanted most. Man the first time I saw the Berkshire I almost dropped. I had the same one in N scale. I love that locomotive and I wanted to touch it so badly. Maybe I'll be able to do so in the future since it looks like we're going to move to Norfolk.

Hello hello hello. How's it going everyone?

Happy B-Day [bday] Alex!

So y'all, I was working out, and I got an idea for a Photoshop project. And so, after completing my reps, I grabbed my camera and took a pair of photos. I opened Photoshop, and started playing around...And this is the end result.

A little humor for y'all.

Big Smile [:D] I thought it turned out good. Approve [^]

PAUL, and others in the CS, if you type my nickname as shown as my signature at the bottom of my entry, you will get ***, that is because, some people have made my name a nasty, so the new software that was just installed "thinks" you are referring to a part of the male body, which is not acceptable to proper protocol.
So, either type DickJ ( hopefully that will be acceptable), and if that does not work, I know that grayfox is still not considered a bad word, or, my "formal" name, Richard.

Good Morning All,

Late start to the morning as I try to get caught up on invoicing from the last two race weekends. Just another coffee for me please. Yes it was a good weekend, but the heat was brutal. We only raced for 20 minutes, but when we were done i was soaked in sweat from head to foot. I'm still waiting to hear how the rest of the team made out at Elkhart Lake (the same weekend and 9 cars).

Inch - I know about the temptation to use duct tape when the noise won't let the wee'uns nap. CFO used to drag them over to a neighbors house and then sneak back so the baby could sleep. They are all turning out all right these days, but the four of them used to resemble the old cartoon where Daffy opens the basement doors and aligators rush him. When I look up at work and see these impressive young people walking around it often makes me feel it all went way too fast (and how did ma and i get so gray?).

Our prayers for those in need, and it's time to get back to it. CUL, Big Smile [:D] J.R.

How about a cup of hot fresh coffee Chloe, and I could use a big breakfast this morning. Two eggs sunny side up, cheese grits, home fries, sausage links, bacon, and a short stack too. The virtual cholesterol might go up, but with some of Ed’s fresh squeezed to go with it too…

Went to Lowe’s after work yesterday and bought 3 sheets of the 4X8 1/8 inch thick hardboard for the layout backdrop and 2 boxes of ½ inch wire nails. Then came home and spent about an hour in the train room last night putting down some cork roadbed on the plywood. It was my first time putting down cork roadbed in over 13 years, and updated photos will be forthcoming…..

Can you say HOT!!!!!!! The temp is really getting up there the past few days and tomorrow is supposed to be even higher! If you have to work outside this week remember to drink plenty of fluids and take breaks often. If you know that outside work will be on your to do list be sure to start drinking fluids about a half hour before you go outside, this gets your body hydrated before exposure to the extreme temp and humidity. Then continue to drink fluids about 1 cup every 15 to 20 minutes while exerting yourself outside.

Thanks for the answer Inch! Soybeans are good! Ever eat edamame? It is soybeans in the husk steamed with salt. Kind of reminds me of boiled peanuts.

Hi Gang: I'm going to take the afternoon as a vacation halfday. I had one hanging and corporate just came down and said that we won't be allowed to do that. I just love jacking with the suits. I'm a bad boy.Evil [}:)]

Richard: I guess that you are just a bad word to the computer.

I used Word to do last nights post. At least that that still works. Actually except for the problem with getting notifyed about every post that someone does. I haven't had too many problems.

I'm having to re-regester on the Trains site. Of course I have to have my customer no. which is on the label of the magazine that is the first thing that I despose of. When I filled out the request for my customer number it said that my E-mail address was already being used. Then that my pass word was already being used. I'll have to E-mail Bergie and get some help like I did with the MR site.Confused [%-)]

It's almost time to punch out and go home. I'll see you all later.

Hey Richard

Not to worry! Lisa's happy as she has noted a new new TD on NOAA that is manifesting off the coast. And yes it's hot everywhere, though I was able to get the grass cut earlier today.

Can any of you guys tell me if your prices for building supplies is skyrocketing?!? Just got off the phone with the builder as we are trying to "nail down" the final touches on the renovations but prices are very unstable and the quotes are only good for 30 days. building unless the price goes over the deep end starts middle of next month. I sail for the Arctic next Thursday.

Hello everyone.  Just came through the new improved portal for the first time, what a difference fresh paint makes.Big Smile [:D]

Last time I was here, I was in London Ont, and that was before spending most of Sunday 9th/July being shown around the Halton County Radial Railway by TrolleyRob and Heather. What excellent hosts they are, and full of info on the street cars and other equipment. Photos in due course, but here’s a couple to be going on with.  First, two locos at the GM plant in London. Check out the trucks on the rear one!

And here’s TrolleyRob and yours truly.  Only Luc and Fergie, and Siberianmo on the forum can tell them apart. Clown [:o)]

…well, not quite everywhere, as we have fog, fog, fog on Sober Island. Hence the dampness of the GKs.Disapprove [V]

Yes, building supplies are shooting up in price.  I checked a Central Lumber flyer the other day, and was shocked at the price of just ordinary 2x4s. Yech!

Afternoon , ice tea Zoe,

Hey RT you never did say when the party was, after you got the cups

J.R. we're amazed at the our kids also, I remember that cartoon, it was bout like supper time here, a mad rush for chow. They still eat that way, glad I'm not paying for they're grocerys anymore.

RYAN, I'll pass on the edamame, me soy don't get along well, but I do like boiled peanuts, come to think of it, I don't get along with them either.

Good afternoon everyone, we have been in the pool for last 4 hours as it is 89.3F outside, with a rising Dew Point now at 69F. The water temp in the pool is 80F!!! It does cool you down though because it is W...E...T !!! We have a nice Canadian cool front coming in this afternoon with it's associated TS's about 4-6pm, that means hot and dry tomoorow.

DER JOHN: Those are real nice new LOCo's!!! Did you get a tour of the plant? Or, are they paranoid that you are a terrorist?
I can feel and see that sea fog that you have. When we visited Campobello Island 10 years ago, one minute the sun would be out and it would be real hot, then the sea fog would completely block out the sun and the temp would feel like it dropped 20 degrees!

FERGIE: Yes, I see that TD off the coast, it looks like it might be headed right for NS. Lisa must be having a great time with her new WS
Do you have any room onboard your ship headed for the Arctic??? I can be there in 14 hours driving time.
The prices of lumber is doing the same thing here in New England. I thought things would stabilize a bit because the home construction has slowed with rising interest rates, but nay, nay, they keep rising!! I guess it is due to rising shipping costs due to rising oil prices.

RYAN: Yes, you are so correct on keeping hydrated. People have no clue as to how much fluid they lose through sweating. I literally rung out my "T" shirt this morning after doing some planting for the CFO.
I see you are making good progress on your layout, I hope it is cool at night in the basement. I don't believe you HAD a basement in NO right?

PAUL: Yup, the new software removes any word that the programmers have coded as "foul" language. So alas....... my poor nickname "Dick" , as become ***. Maybe I should sign on as "three stars" LOL. I notified Bergie about it, and he is having his software gurus look into it. Gee, why isn't it "willie"???
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Check out the trucks on the rear one!

Yes, there is something very strange about the trucks on that one, in surprised they dont just snap like a twig unter the 200 ton weight of that SD70ACe! Or perhaps they're making a new 4 axle unpowered version! Tongue [:P]

Richard: OK. So how are you Willie? Actually your name Dick is coming through all right now.

Der: Maybe they're waiting for the parts from Athern.

Fergies going to the arctic. Man what a woss. Actually I'll be there thursday. I'd like an outside cabin and don't forget the little chocolate on the pillow.

I know that some of us are having trouble with the new system, but with alittle help from Bergie I've been doing all right. It is taking alittle time and effort, but I'm learning. I'll try posting a picture soon.

Got to go and help Mary Ann take care of the animals. She and son John took some calves to the sale barn. She did pretty well. She's happy so I'm happy. Smile [:)]

See you all later.

Der John, glad to see you made it back to the new forums in one peice. Sounds like you had a good little vacation too, getting to see the EMD plant and all, even if it was just from the outside.

Fergie, glad to see you made it back too. I assume the MESS was as MESSy as every when you arrived home?

I got a chance to do a little traveling on Sunday myself. I went down to Illinois to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois for their diesel days celebration. They had a bunch of old diesel locomotives running around that they saved from the scap yard, and they were giving rides throughout the day too. I've got only two of my many photos up so far, but here they are:

I also got to catch a METRA commuter train away from the Museum at Harvard, Illinois:

I also got to do a little railfanning this morning. I caught a Union Pacific Ballast train loading at their quarry in Rock Springs Wisconsin. He had a GE unit on the point, which is quite rare on this line. Normally all we get is two or three SD40-2s. Here's a shot of the train:

Well I better get going, I've got a lot of stuff to do yet today in the way of modeling. I've been kind of slacking on working on my model related stuff lately, so it's time to get going before summer runs out on me!
