Duke, regardless of what Ed says, we can accept all sizes, including (Zimpossible, Ginormous, Horribly Oversized and others. And some of us (moi?) are proud of modeling in HO scale. But though we kid each other, we also learn from other scales, engine types and such.[:)]

Remember to tell our server Zoe your food and beverage requests.

Catch you later,

Excuse me.... what were you saying? It ... doesn't ... matter ... because ... he's ... a ... model ... railroader. Oh, yeah, forgot.

Excuse me there, lost my head for a while, I ventured outside the Coffee Shop a bit and I'm still shell shocked. It's a jungle out there.

Welcome Duke, just fill out this short questionnaire for our files:

Coffee Type Regular Decaf

There, that ought to do it.

You're Absolutely right ED[:(!]

Inquiring minds want to know.
Far too many Normal types here.
We need balance and symetry. [:D]

Welcome Duke

Bob: as always good talking to you, though I was disapointed in your response to why you didn't take us up on your prize trip. I still can't get the ringing of laughter out of my ear[%-)]

Luct and John Hopefully we can gather in March and do some serious MR'ng. (should give me enough time to clean the basement)

***: Congrats on the 2-6-6-2. That was one engine I was considering, then again I would consider about 4 or 5 different engines at this time.

[#welcome] Duke

If you read that thread you will find what I wrote. Can't believe what I {think} started. It was between Teffy and me. Either his puter wont except my E's or my puter doesn't like Texas. Thats why I was writing him on this thread. Nuff said.
Its getting on to my bedtime. After another 13 hour day at work , these OLD bones need a hot shower and sleep.
Oh!, thanks to to the Canadian Drs. for looking for a cure of P.B.C. It's rare and of course my wife has it. [And she is a rare one]
Ya'll stay well and warm.

Good Evening, Coffee Clubbers! Zoe, I'll have one of Duke's Apple fritters with a cup of plain ol' java. Ah, is that hazelnut blend tonight? Great!

Ed, thanks for the link on the Timesaver [tup][:)] - I went by that page, and also did a Google search and found a variety of possible ways to build the Timesaver. Didn’t realize there were so many ways to build one (so long as they hold the correct number of cars on each siding/track)!

Lawrence, thanks for the suggestion on the Yahoo groups, but it appears I’d have to join (sure fire way to tip off the spammers, unfortunately) to see the files. So I guess I'll pass for now on looking for those files, unless I want to set up a throwaway email to sign up with.

***, [bday] and I am impressed at your experience - I remember learning about the first lasers (back when they were LASER’s and still an acronym) when I was still in high school. I remember learning (probably an oversimplified version) about the principles behind the laser (the first ones were always red, weren’t they?).
Good to hear your wife notices what RR stuff you drool over!
And yeah, if you’ve been a homeowner that long, you would have learned a few techniques about construction methods...
As for that train show, I’m sure you’re planning on taking lots of notes (and if you can get a camera in there, pics too) - I would sure look to see what I could learn and pick up info about if I could get to such a show.

Oh, *** - I may have scanned in that backdrop article, if you can’t find the MRR issue. Email me if you don’t find it. I do recall that in the article, they used 5 or 6 shades from deeper blue (top) to almost white (bottom), and then they blended the different bands into the adjoining ones. The article said they used oil paints, to allow for more time to blend the shades.

On another topic, I don’t think the guy with the SUV on the train tracks will be getting a Darwin award (they’re usually bestowed posthumously, so since the guy chickened out, he won’t qualify). (I apologize if that sounds cold. Just thinking about all the people who lost loved ones because he didn’t pull the SUV off the tracks when he changed his mind. Sorry. The guy should get some professional help, though).

Rob, that PSA is a great start - keep it up!

[#welcome], Duke, and those Apple fritters are great! Of course, I’m a bit partial to Apples... [;)] The Coffee Shop is a good place to come and kick back with your favorite hot beverage, ask questions (you might even get a good answer!) and have some fun. Ask Mitchell for a deep fried drink, if you want a unique treat! [;)]

Luc, sorry to hear that your wife’s still having the kidney stones. Hope the doctors get those things all dissolved and out *very* soon. The train pics look good - especially for ‘just’ setting out some track and buildings. Very good start - we’ll look forward to seeing the other pics, after you get scenery and the rest put in. [:)][tup]

Noah, so if you and Mitchell are on the opposite sides of the world, do you mean that Mitchell is +13 and you’re -13? Or do I have it backwards? [;)] Good that you have projects (like the buildings) you can work on before and after school.

Teffy - make mine 58 (and proud of it!). With the changes other have added, it looks like this might be fairly inclusive:

Flip 68?
John 67
*** 66
Der (John) 65
Bob - 64
Paul B - 62
Tom - 59
Jim (Cape G) - 58
Ed - 58
Luc - 55 ?
Phil - (Northern) just turned 50
Lupo - 50 (say Ferrari! [;)])
Mark - 48
TurboTim - 45
Fergie - 43
Elliot (our founder) - 43
PennsyHoosier - 42
Krump - 40
TrolleyRob - 33
JP - 33
Brian (brclem) - 27, with 28 coming soon
Jim (Ark) late 30's?
Trainfreak Scott - 15
sNoah 13
Mitchell 13

Duke - ? (Got a birthday coming up?)

I'm glad to see all the newer people coming by the Shop - but I may have to start splitting up my posts or I'll be taking up a whole page just with one post![;)] Ah, we'll have to expand the back walls of the Coffee Shop again pretty soon. Might even have to add another wood stove to make room for everyone to warm their tootsies.[:D]

Well, time to go figure what type of hybrid Timesaver I can come up with. Think I'll try to make something that's not a total pain to operate, and with buildings, scenery, etc. See everyone tomorrow! Zoe, left you a tip on the booth counter. I saw that the second tanker of oj from Ed has arrived (based on the full jugs of oj in the fridge).

Blessings on your evenings,

Well guys, the load out has begun, the first show is this weekend. So far so good. For those who aren't sure what I'm talking about, the details can be found in this topic:

http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27117

Tonight's activity is car gathering and wheel cleaning.[:)]

Thanks for all of your support, and well wishes. It has been a long time since I have done this. There really isn't much luck involved, just hard work. I expect things to go smoothly, as I have been preparing for weeks. The key is the set up, the faster it goes the better.

I have incorporated a number of time saving improvements into the layout in recent weeks. I'm setting myself a goal of 4 hours, from curbside to 4 trains operational. If I'm feeling good, maybe I'll bring some accessories and set them up Saturday.

Hi Duke!!! Welcome to the coffee shop, thanks for the Apple Fritters, love em!!! And thanks for the date of MRR article, I have the back copies, so I will hunt that down. I will email you for your color codes, I want the sky to look natural, with some clouds, but not overpowering blue.
Checking out the forum, see you later Duke,

Hi to the coffee club. I have been sitting back in the corner watching and listening to what has been going on,and decided to say Hi. Grayfox,I have a couple colors of blue that I mixed to get the color of sky that looks good to my eye. I have the codes written down if you would like them,if so you can email me as it is a little long for this. Also,in MR,Dec of 02 there is a small article called Backdrop blues. I will get to myself a little later, but for now the b in the name stands for Bob,but there is a Bob,Rob,and Robert(hope he does come back),so how about if I go by the nickname I have had through jr high, high school, military, and now,Duke. Ok,I will go back to my corner, and BTW,it is a little late in the evening, but I brought some Apple Fritters, and for those that can't have the sugar, plain donuts. Duke

Good evenin' Everybody,
I just popped in for a minute to see what's going on. It's been a good day, but a long one.

Grayfox, Happy Birthday! Congrats on the 2-6-6-2. That's an excellent present. Isn't it wonderful to have a wife who supports your hobbies and interests. Have a great birthday.

Teffy, you can remove the question mark. I'm 59 and loving it. 58 was great, 59 is great and I'm looking forward to 60.

Der, you're absolutedly right. It is unusual for those of us with names staring with "W" to be at the head of the line. it's not bad every now and then.

I'd best go for now. There are a few things still to get done tonight.
Have a great evening, everybody,
Tom

Good late afternoon gents, thank you once again for the birthday wishes from all, 66 Luc!!! And there is some cake left over, Mitchell designed it, did a GREAT job, had A CSX engine on top, Zoe will bring you a piece......it is low cal, low sugar, has chocolate pudding for topping instead of sugar frosting...sorry Mitch, us older guys have to watch our weight and glucose levels.

Ed, the wife did it on her own, she is very proficient now on the computer and making purchases [;)][:)], and she is very astute at watching what I drool over. Love that woman !!!

Brian, I had not seen the news on TV yet, but I'm sure the 6 pm news out of Boston will carry the story. I did hear though, that someone has submitted the name of the guy who left his car on the tracks, for the 2005 Darwin Awards...maybe he will make the top 10!

On the weather front, we received another 6 inches today, man those piles are getting high. No m ore snoah forecasted though until next Monday....ohhh joy !!!

Luc, the pictures are OK, we get a good view of your layout, and that is what counts. Hope the wife is feeling a little better.

Rob, that reading for PSA is great, and you are VERY wise to get a baseline reading at age 33. Keep your fat intake under control and you may never have an issue. They didn't have this test when I was 33, I started getting annual readings at age 50, and it was 2.1.By the time I was 60 it was 4.8 then 6.1 at age 62 and then I was in trouble. I make it a point now to inform as many younger men as I can, to save them the grief.

Tim, your not late....my BD is TODAY, the 26th. Thank you buddy !!! How is your set up coming along ?

Ohh OH, the wife just rang the dinner bell......heading for the dinner car, see you later guys....

Teffy, Ed and Mitchell are closer, 13. I'm the same age as Mitchell but on opposite sides of the planet.

***, [bday][bday] Hope it's a good one!

Luct, Nice photos. as you said, we get the idea.

Sad to see Robert go. I hope he returns soon. It always saddens me to see people who just seem to like to push others buttons.

Jim, I didn't last night(a snowball fight with my dad took the place of that), but unusually, I did get to this morning before school. I woke up early and decided to put the time to good use. I got about 25 minutes of modeling done. The building is that much closer to completion. I better get going now, I got homework to do.

Hi everyone,

I had a heck of time getting here today with all the nasties flying about I found myself ducking and dodging. [soapbox] Come on guys, this is suppose to be a fun hobby, now let's put all that nonsense aside and get back to the fun stuff. [2c] OK off the box I go.

The LA train story is so tragic. The news media all seem to have their own version of what happened.

CFO made her appointment yesterday, going to do more testing (blood, urine, etc) then off to a kidney doc. She is worn out with all this. Those stones just keep coming, there does not seem to be any end to it and to top this up she has a severe toothache. The good news is she's going to the dentist on Friday. My appointment was ok. I'll have to go through a simple procedure on Feb 18 and that should be it.

I played some more with that toy camera and got results. Not very good ones but some. All I did for these was layout some track, added the 0-8-0 and a few cars, then sort of placed some buildings on (just to give me some sense of accomplishment.

Yes I know, the pics are a little fuzzy but you get an idea. Remember, this is a toy camera that was given to me and probably came from a dollar shop.

John - A No scale snow blower!!!!! [(-D][(-D] Looks great, Good work.

Bob - Thanks again for your information, I'll have to experiment with this. I've used a wash by mixing acrylic paint and water on some of the buildings and that doesn't look to bad, unless you are very close.

Jim in cape - She's still having the problem, but we are working on this, I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel though she has difficulties seeing it. Those who have experienced these will know exactly what that means, the rest of us can only imagine...

*** - [bday][bday] and how young did you say? Hope you have a great day. With reference to CFO, drinking mucho water and much more..... I'll need to setup her own commode [:-,][(-D][(-D]

Ed - You are correct, I'm 55 years young and getting younger by the years. [:D][:D]

I hear the second bell for dinner....

Happy MRRing

...ahhh the fresh aroma of hot coffee on a cold morning...nothing better, we'll , almost nothing better...after all, opening a BD gift from the wife and finding a 2-6-6-6 -2 art. is very nice too.

Verrry nice gift. Did she have help in picking it out?

QUOTE: ...and the electrical hookup of all the duplex outlets and lighting wall switches ( piece of cake ) no pun intended today.
Are you allowed to do that yourself and just have it checked by the code inspector? Somewhere i had imagined that you could mount the boxes and run the cable, but that you had to have a licensed electrician do the actual hookup, but I'm probably having an early halfsheimer attack.

QUOTE: Trainwreck:
It's getting bad out there, even Mitchell got it pretty good, and he didn't even say anything offensive.
Then you probably saw it after the edits. Unfortunately his original post was pretty strong and with some poor choices of words (although in a good cause). To his credit he did go back and edit his posts and apologize. Hopefully before Bergie saw them.

Brian, that's bad news about the train wreck. I feel sorry for all the innocent people, both dead and injured, who will suffer because of that guy.

It was a beautiful morning here. Mid-80's, partly cloudy, and I played like a jerk out on the course. The good thing is that I don't get nearly as upset as I used to when I was younger. At this stage in my life I can appreciate just being out on the course. It would be nice to shoot just a bit better though...........

Harmless enough, but several people really jumped very hard on his case over it. There were some good defense posts agreeing with him, but a couple of guys got very personal. He's apparently deleted his forum membership (the post, entitled "Taking all Freebies", now does not show an author) as a result of the exchange (I imagine).

Teffy, I think you talked on the phone to him, if you still have his number you might consider calling him up and trying to help get over it. It would be a shame to have him quit in anger over something like that.

I don't understand why people have to be like that in a forum. In my opinion (maybe I'm wrong) the negative responses were way over the top and uncalled for.

Once again, thanks to all the Coffee Shop patrons for either being such nice people, or (if you're just masquerading as someone nice) at least for checking your guns at the Coffee Shop door.

Regards

Ed

All - I have to agree w/ Ed here. I was not happy when I read the whole topic and follow-on posts. I could not believe that there were some forum members that would 'jump all over him' for a simple topic. Someone (Robert, I think) even said something along the lines of ' If you have nothing good to say, don't say it at all' in Robert's defense. I commend that member for defending 'one of our own.' I'm sad to hear that he's no longer with us as a member.
Also, as Ed said.... Once again, thanks to all the Coffee Shop patrons for either being such nice people, or (if you're just masquerading as someone nice) at least for checking your guns at the Coffee Shop door.

Good morning all,

[bday] ***, even if it is a day late. At least its not a dollar short, as its email. [(-D]

Missed the Bob thread. Will have to go back.

I like Al. His set is awesome. Must be that conversion time between 20 and cool, and 30 and old thing. Of course, I can't remember that .[banghead]

Ed, OJ squeezed. And a shot in the coffee. I have been added fruit flavor to my coffee. Ummmmmmmmmmmmm..

Gotta get the kids to school. I will return.

Oh, thanks, I never touch the stuff myself ,instant messages, that is[(-D] Ink on dead trees still cuts it for me[:D]

On the age list, squeeze me in between Bob and ***. Certainly not at the top of the list. When your name begins with a W, you aren't used to looking there for anything!

Lunch smells good, gotta go.

Ed: looks good to me, but I only know a couple of them.

Don't get to visit during first hour much, but I guess today is special. Maybe I can check in 5th hour too.

Now that I've converted a couple of locos to DCC, I want to do them all!!! Its kinda fun after you've made the first few mistakes and learned not to do that again. I'll post a pic of that Dash8 on my railimages site as soon as I get the chance. Now I want to do my older P2K SW1500 (or at least I think that's what body it is) What lighting effects could I put on that? ditch lights don't really fit that style, and a strobe doesn't either.[%-)] Well, it'll be awhile before I get to the LHS again to get more miniatronics 1.2mm's anyway. Those things work nicely and look excellent.

I hadn't really looked in the main forum lately, been busy and barely find time to check in here. It's getting bad out there, even Mitchell got it pretty good, and he didn't even say anything offensive. Seems to me there are just a couple of people causing the problems though, most get along just fine like we do in here.

Only 5 minutes till the end of class, so I better go.

Good morning all, ahhh the fresh aroma of hot coffee on a cold morning...nothing better, we'll , almost nothing better...after all, opening a BD gift from the wife and finding a 2-6-6-6 -2 art. is very nice too.

First, thank you everyone for the BD best wishes, and how does it feel to be 66? One year older than 65 and few more pains in the knees, the body is old but the mind is young.

Secondly, I did not know Robert very long, but I am sorry to see him leave, I hope he reconsiders, we all get up-tight at times when stress level is too high, God knows I was a wreck last year when we had 5 grandkids living here with us 7x24.

Thirdly, I was not going to respond to the Parker/Mitchell episode, but I thought out a "fatherly...errrrr GRAND fatherly response that I hope they will take to heart.

Fourthly, yesterday was a beautiful day here, clear skies....so here is the test, being New England, or NS too, what is the weather here in New England today??? I will score your answers this evening to give the rest of the world a fair chance to reply.

Time to head down to the train room, one last sheet to install on the wall, then there is the wall painting and the electrical hookup of all the duplex outlets and lighting wall switches ( piece of cake ) no pun intended today.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun day,

[:D]
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good Morning All:

The empty nest syndrone isn't so bad, as I don't have to get dressed to come out and play with the computer or go up stairs.

I've found Robert's phone numbers and will call him after 8:00 AM - Mom always told me not to call anyone before 8:00 unless it was life or death. Isn't it strange how those old ideas don't go away.

I just called him and his comment is that he's got a lot to do and the forum was interfearing with his other duties.

I poped another squarrel yesterday and didn't have time to put him at the back of the lot and when I came home to do lunch we was gone. I don't know if a dog or cat picked him up but all these months I've been disposing of them when the problem would have taken care of itself.

Brunton:
I have Robert's address if you still want to send him that stuff. It might make a good impression and help him come back. My e-mail is teffy@pernet.net

In the thread "Vat a Nice Guy" You and I could have gone at it tooth and toenail but what would it accomplish? But MOST of the younger guys on the forum will do that because they can hide behind a false identity and appear big and strong. They can't back talk their parents or teachers (most of them) but on a forum they can be the bully. Bob Boudeau and Don Gibson are some of the exceptions. Now I'm being nasty.

***:
At 66 you're almost as old as Flip - I wonder how age that old feels?? I started a post one time listing the coffee clubbers with their wives but we had so many comming in that I stopped, maybe we ought to start a post and put us in age order.

Hello Forum Train Crew!

Hope you're all well. Temps warmed up here into the high 50s on the Florida west coast.

Hope you all don't mind my mentioning this, but as much as he may irritate some of you, let's try and encourage Parkerlegend. I've chimed in on his posts on HOBO and his latest "Sexy" post to StuckArm. Apparently he still is carrying a chip. I know what its like as I used to be like him when I was in my late 20s.

It's so easy to ask Bergie to take action or to verbally attack him, but instead let's take the "high road" , do it ourselves and help him.

Take care guys.

(Bill Matthewson, are you still on board?)

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's going to be a gray day in the mountains today. It will be fairly warm, and then start cooling off towards the weekend. The weatherguessers are calling for snow or ice on Saturday. We'll see what happens between now and then. As with many other places, if you don't like the weather here, give it 5 minutes or so, it can change. It also tends to be be very localized because of the wind patterns through the valleys.

That is a shame about RDL. I'll admit I wasn't paying attention to it. Some folks just jump way too hard at things they disagree with. They're very quick to take offense and hammer somebody. One of the pitfalls with a forum such as this is that all communication is written. We don't have the information provided by tone of voice or facial expression which affect what's being said verbally and influence how it's received. One of the best things about the coffee shop is the congenial atmosphere. Everybody is respectful of other's opinions and preferences and flame throwers are checked at the door. or probably just not carried at all.

Teffy, thanks for the information on Black Bear. A jig for building trestle bents would make it a lot easier.

Grayfox, enjoy the train show. Five acres of trains is a really big show. It will take a while to see it all.

I'd better go for now. There's still work to be done in the bathroom.
Have a great day, everybody,
Tom
