Well I just finished my supper and will now sit me down for a quiet rest. I was able to dig my way to the BBQ and cooked some really nice steaks. They weren't pink either! they were Blood red[oX)]No sissies here!

Good evening everyone.

CFO is sending huge THANK YOU to all for thinking her. Said "I don't understand why these people who don't know us from Adam do take the time to care." I said to her that this hobby is full of very special people who have a passion for trains and are even more passionate about people. To what Gloria has said I want to add big thanks because in some way, this has lifted her spirits a bit.

I experimented on the sugar factory with an acrylic wa***o sort of age the structure and add a bit of mortar to the bricks but I'm not happy with the results. The good news is that I can soak the parts in warm water and the wash will come off. Now I'm going back to study Bob's suggestion in more detail. Hope it does not turn out [pink]PINKpink] or I'll be force to sent it to Fergie. [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

I saw the CPP posting. I think they are losing on most of the fun. Too bad!!!

Ed - I saw a warning on CNN a few days ago about Americans being kidnapped and ransom for easy entre in the USA or just killed. Please be careful and hope you and your family are always safe.

Bob - This episode started last summer and seemed to be continous, no breaks. MD is getting data on her uric acid levels and kidney functions, she thinks that a new grug will be able to help her but CFO will need to see a specialist first. We hope very soon.

Lupo: Do you know if the Autoscenes are pre-painted or "raw". One of the aspects of the hobby

afternoon all

been out working on the truck... the starter seems to be bad on it... we ran a quick diagnosis on it and it runs when hookin up power with out it being connected... so it's back to the shop tomorrow to have them look at it to see if anything is wrong with it and/or replace it.

after further inspection the starter was fine. and now we are lost.

as for my b-day tomorrow.... so who knows whats going to happen... at least we are being gven a Volvo from some friends of ours so that will help us out alot.

btw... that Pink loco looks nice... well for the color... and under my careful eye I could tell it is not a paintshop paint job... you can tell from the lighting and the clearity (sp) of the glare on it.

Good Morning All:

It is a beautiful day here, a little nippy but no rain. If all goes well I should get some more track laid and see about designing my trestle bridge. I've decided it's going to be 8" to 9" long with 3 bents and two retaining bents (one on each end). If the bent construction goes well (and I think it will) I may add another bent in the middle and make the spacing about 1 9/16" instead of 2"+. I think that I'm going to cut the facia board to the conture of the stream bank. I see a delimma as I need to get the trestle in so I can finish wiring the loop but I'm not ready to pour the stream yet as I'm not sure wher all I want it to go. My feeling is that you set the bents, pour the stream and then add the stringers along with the track to the tops of the bents. Anyone have any other suggestions??

If you will please e-mail me your address, I'll sent the Mass track cleaner to both of you since Fergie will be out to sea when it arrives at his house. John, I can't find the e-mail that had your address in it, that's why I need it again.

About how often does you wife pass a stone? I have friends that will pass one or two and then go for several months, one even over a year, and then have to get rid of another one or two or three.

Tim:
Do you have Lynn Westcotts book on building benchwork? It has a lot of good ideas on how to build strong but not heavy benchwoork. Like for a 4' X 8' he uses an "L" guirder running length ways and it's about 11 1/2" to 12" in from the outside. It makes a good support and it's not heavy. He named the book with an origional and funny title "How to Build Model Railroad Benchwork". Figure 3-2 on page 19 is for a table. I've helped two local guys, one made a 4 X 8 and the other built a 5 X 9 1/2. The best thing about this idea is you can make the "table" 52" instead of 48" if you need or want to. This would give you room for just a little bit bigger radius if you wanted it. Since my layout is an around the wall I used the ideas on page 22.

How is the thinking for the decal comming along. The emblem should be a good one, so take your time.

Today I'll get the pink panther running, even if I have to push it around. To put your mind at ease I did find my 2 # maul yesterday. The slogan in the oil field is "If it wont fit, use a bigger sledge." I think the the side rods are where the bind is. All it takes is a little fileing. WISH ME LUCK

For those of you that weren't there - John, Fergie and I were at Fergies having a good time running his layout when all of a sudden one of my engines stop sounding and Fergie says "oh my God". Then comes the klunk..thud. We looked around and my BRAND NEW Spectrum mountain was lying on the floor. The cab roof was bent a little but nothing else was hurt. No one has even noticed that the roof is bent so it must not be to bad.

It's so different from conditions over this last week that I may get all fired up and try to find the other part of the driveway. True Watson, but you doubtless observed that Teffy has told us often that he regularly attends church, and also he has told Noah that "the pink panther is real". I had to move pretty quickly this afternoon - I was scanning some articles and realized it was about 15 minutes until the magazines were due back at the library! [oops] Didn’t get to the store and get a roll of paper today. I’m gonna draw up the plans at life size. That way I can just try out different structures on the paper to see which ones will fit better on the layout (with or without modifications).

I know it is hard to get because it is out of print, that is why I was very exited to get it from Bill, as he had two copies of it, There seems to be very little info and pictures on the net on this legendary Model Railroad, strange, considering the influence John Allen supposed to have had on contemporary model railroading .
I think Kalmbach would be doing lots of new modellers a favour with a reprint of this beatiful book.

Not much happening today. We took the pecans and sold them. The price is down to $1.10/ lb. Since it's getting to the end of the season for picking that's expected. I really goofed off for most of the day. I did get out and put out hay and did some cleaning up around the place. It's supposed to start raining again tonight and keep it up off and on thru Tuesday.

I liked STNG better than the original, but then liked DS9, and then liked Voyager best (haven’t seen Enterprise yet - only watching our broadcast stations in my area; they charge way too much for a bunch of extra channels I wouldn’t watch). I think I liked the smaller ship size on ST-V, TNG’s Enterprise was so huge. Liked the movie Stargate, not as wild about the series, though.

Yeah, Noah, those Rix/Pikestuff buildings are pretty good. For me, the problem is that kind of building doesn’t fit too well with the transition era I’m going to be modeling (circa 1959). There was a nice article in MRR about scratchbuilding a yard building kinda like the Pikestuff/Rix ones. If I can find my copy or a scan, I can send it to you. Just email me and I’ll send it back attached to my reply.

Ed, if it takes a second floor for more MRR room, it’s worth it, right?[:)] I’d say my last trip to a train show was probably at least 5 or more years ago. Happened to find out there was one when I was in the St. Louis area at that time, so I went and looked. We (the club) were at a Merit Badge Fair today with about 250 scouts. We let them run the trains and it was nice to see the excitment in their faces - they were middle and high school students. Boy talk about tired - standing on concrete from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Jim, I don't believe I've ever truly said. I'm working on a Rix products building, called a mecanical contractors building, that is a blue corrugated building. It's got a loading dock in the rear, and a larger building in the front, both connected. I'm finishing the roof tomorrow, and then I'll show pre-dull coat/weathering shots.

Another real nice day down here, mostly sunny, [8D] got up in the mid-80’s again. We went out to the orange grove and picked another Blazer load of fruit. Plus we short-cut bringing some back because my M-I-L took her hand juicer out with us and made 5 gallons of juice on the spot.

I see the CPP (Correctness in Posting Police) are out in force again, this time with their “Forum Conduct” post. The usual set of complaints about spelling and grammar errors, posting before searching, overuse of smilies (this is new), posting in all capital letters, whatever. I've got nothing against good grammar and correct spelling, but I'd much rather someone posted, even with errors, than be afraid to post for fear that the CPP would get on them for their errors.

Brian, sorry to hear about the car problems, and even sorrier about your train set. But you can still enjoy the hobby for a while longer as an ‘armchair model railroader’. I know, I did it for years. Between reading model rr books and magazines at the local library, or hanging out on the forums, checking out the hundreds of model railroad or real train websites, or just continuing to plan your future layout, it’s not that you’re exactly out of the hobby. I know that it’s not the same as running your own trains, but it can be time well spent.

Tom, sounds like that material could be useful. I’ll look forward to seeing pictures later. It’s not like I’m ready to plant it tomorrow or anything. I do have some of the Woodland Scenics field grass material, but haven’t had a chance to try it out yet.

Bill Mathewson was so kind to send me a copy of the Linn H. Westcott book on John Allen's Gorre and Daphetid Railroad. Full of exiting pictures ! One cool layout that is , very inspiring !
