Good evening CS inmatespatrons[:D] I’ll have a hot chocolate please Chloe, but hold the cookies as the blood sugars have been dodgy today. Often are on a day away. Dental appointment, and the achievement of a long held ambition. I actually nodded off, however briefly, in the chair while being operated on. Maybe getting older helps.[(-D] It’s something I’ve wanted to see if I could do since about 1982.
There should have been time to get to the LHS after that, and indeed I arrived there with an hour to spare, I thought. Just in time to meet the helper, Jay, driving out of the lot. Sign on the door (and I didn’t get out to inspect it closely, was something about 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m.)
I don’t know if it’s new permanent hours, or just for today, or what. I was going to ask if Luc could shed any light on that, but I see that he’s confined to barracks until his cold’s responded to TLC. Get well soon Luc.[:D][tup]
Matt:
QUOTE: Comrade Khrushchev came out of the debate ok - the "opposition" made assorted errors (such as having a very loud person who hadn't bothered to find evidence to support his views... very easy to out-argue them!). Conclusion essentially was that he was well-meaning but a bit hopeless - he had good ideas and intentions but they didn't work. Bearing in mind what he had to work with I'd say he did pretty well - USSR was still recovering from WW2, Stalin's terror, food shortages, etc.
One of the odd ball things he had as a Stalin Era legacy was his top biologist/agriculturalist Denis Someoneorotherovich who was busy trying to make plants evolve (Darwinize) faster by shoving the seeds in the freezer, bashing them about to “toughen them up” and so on, so that they would grow better in the harsh Russian climate. Khrushchev bought into this nonsense too, or so the place mats in our local restaurant would have us believe [(-D]
QUOTE: Our best snow coverage was on the car bonnet this morning - though when you hit 60mph you end up with a personal blizzard effect!
The Halifax Bridge Commission is now stopping vehicles with inordinate amounts of snow on them from crossing the harbour until the snow has been cleared. Too much of that personal blizzard being shared with one and all, I guess[:D]

Ryan:
QUOTE: I just hope we get some of this rain during the spring when the plants will really need it then.
Heard today that Vancouver, B.C.has very little snow pack in the mountains. A good bit of their water comes from a hitherto reliable snow pack melting off over the summer. Already the emergency services are concerned about forest fires this season. They have had record sunshine for February, which has been great for hot dog sales at outdoor stands, apparently, but not good for packing that snow!
QUOTE: The roadway looks great, what material or method are you using for pavement? Opps, I see you already answered the same question!
I did, but I was thinking driving along today that maybe I screwed up the answer. I now think that it was the last two coats of the flex paste that I diluted. The problem that needed solving was the ridges left by the bristles of the brush I used to paint on the flex paste. I used a foam brush for the matte medium.

Long shot, but any family connections up on the Bruce at Tobermory? Best sautéd partridge I’ve ever had was by an Austin family there in the 70s.

I now feel in safe enough company to show my utter ignorance. Could someone please tell me what a Hoosier is, and why?

Here’s hoping that your phone stays quiet! How’s Deb doing with the rehab for her neck?
Brian:
QUOTE: in a couple weeks I think my dad and I are going into our storage to look to see if our old train stuff is still in there or not...
I was in to an electrical/electronics store today to look for parts for a power source for a NCE Powerhouse DCC unit. They didn’t have a transformer in stock, and while we were talking about it, it came to me that I probably have one in the attic in some electronic gear I haven’t looked at in ages – projects I built for my Alberta layout. So tomorrow I’m off into the dark cold yonder to see if I can save myself a few bucks. Hope you find your treasure too.

Here’s hoping JP has a safe trip out west. Maybe he’ll find a terminal and check in from time to time.

Better get going, as it's bedtime. Perhaps a blizzard tomorrow, perhaps not. The weatherguessers don't seem able to say for sure on this one.
Goodnight all, and God Bless.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Wow, dodged a bullet today. The temperature got up into the 90’s!!! [:0] And it's not even the end of February! Fortunately it clouded over around 5:00 and a small cool front (very small) moved in. We’re actually having a bit of drizzle right now and it’s a lot cooler outside. [^] Thought sure I was going to have to run the a/c.

Went out to the orange grove this afternoon for more fruit and fresh squeezed juice. I have really gotten a kick out of this. I know it’s not real farming/ranching like Gregg or Paul do, but for a guy raised in a suburban atmosphere it’s as close to the soil as I’m likely to get. Let’s consider it “gentleman farming”. [:D]

QUOTE: TrolleyRob: …had some bad news on that front though one of our LHS's is closing Apr1st, owner wants to retire at least the city had him for 20 years…
Ouch, that’s tough. It’s got to be really hard to make it as a LHS these days. We can’t afford to keep losing them.

QUOTE: Ed I'm sadened I'm sort of a 1to1 person I do run the cars and conduct when I'm at the museum of coarse it isn't completly the same thing but we do have to pass a rigorous safety signal and rules coarse before we even begin to touch the controls.
Whoops, bad choice of words. [*^_^*] What I was trying to say was more along the lines of him being the first full time railroad employee (like earning his living at it) on the forum. Didn’t mean to slight your activity at the museum.

Flip I suppose that’s good news about the test. At least it’s not bad news. And personally I think that doing 300-400 miles per day of that type of driving would be brutal. My hat’s off to you.

QUOTE: Flip: Besides, I am a very rich person. I have a wife that loves me, A house with ac & heat and I have a job and many friends here on the forum.
Great attitude. They say the secret to happiness isn’t having what you want, it’s wanting what you have.

QUOTE: Brian: …I will be checking my HO stuff out to make sure it still runs... if there are no problems with it I will be selling it to help get stuff for my new layout... like DCC…
Now there’s an idea. Hope it’s there and still in good condition.

Luc, good to hear from you. We were a bit concerned. More O.J., more vitamin C called for. But Gloria is right about the chicken soup too. Thanks for the cartoon. In case anyone was wondering, the first spring training game is in 7 days. Dare I say it………………

JackD, good to hear from you again. Sorry to hear about the wife. It’s almost like we’ve got something going around here with the number of wives having health problems.

QUOTE: AntonioFP45: I have a feeling that he'll come back with another name. I know it's hard but consider encouraging him if he does return.
Looks like he already has. Doesn’t appear to be much change in attitude. Looks like he sucked both Brian and me in on his first post. Trusting souls that we are. [:(!]

Tom, your plan for meeting up with Phil and Amy sounds like a good one. Glad to hear their trip is going well.

That about does it for today. Hope all of you have a good evening. Sleep tight (unless you’re on night shift or driving). I’ll see you tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Good Evenin' Everybody,
It's been a good couple of days in the mountains. The weather hasn't been real pretty, mostly gray and drizzly today, but compared to what other people have dealt with this week, we not complaining at all.

I finally got the updates for the tax program downloaded this morning. I've been messing with them off and on since Monday night. Finally got through the "help" process to a real human being who was both knowledgeable and helpful. That made all the difference. The funny thing is I really like this program. I've used it several times before and it's a good one, but the help process didn't enhance their reputation any. Oh well, that part of it is done and the rest of it is a piece of cake.

I talked to Phil and Amy today. They are in Acworth, Ga. tonight. They've had a good trip so far. Tomorrow Bill and I are going to meet them down there in Kennesaw, near the train store and locomotive museum. It should be a lot of fun. When they head out tomorrow, they'll be heading up I-75 towards home. I-75 runs right next to Kennesaw and its about an hour and 45 minutes from here. It would just be a lot of extra driving tomorrow for them to come up here. Much easier for us to go down there, and they'll be rested when they hit the road.

CSXguy and FtwNSengineer, welcome to the coffee shop. Enjoy the coffee, tea or the fresh squeezed OJ and the conversation.

Tim, I'm glad you came through the storms OK. They have been nasty this week.

Der, the road loks really good. Thanks for the info on the process you used. I'm going to have to give it a try. A lot of my roads will be dirt or gravel, but I will have a few paved ones.

Ed, the hail down south of us was fierce. The film they showed on the Atlanta TV was hard to believe. The last time we had severe hail here was in the Spring of '98. We had 4 vehicles in the drive and they all got beaten up badly. Nobody got hurt, the cars got fixed. It could have been a lot worse.

Luc, I hope you get to feeling better quickly. Chicken soup is wonderful stuff when you're not feeling good.

Noah, good luck with the art contest. Have fun with it.

Flip, Sorry the Dr. got tied up and didn't show. That's not much fun when you're ready to get something done. You're absolutely right. We're rich beyond measure in all the ways that really matter. Louise and I play the lottery every now and then. The most we've ever won is five bucks. Our "luck" doesn't run that way, it runs in a much better way.

I'd better go for now.
Have a great evening, everybody,
Tom

Noah- Well I looked and there are 2 on each side. The lower ones are longer if they were not so bent over. So much for riches. Not written in the book of life that I should be wealthy. I'll take healthy every time. Besides, I am a very rich person. I have a wife that loves me, A house with ac & heat and I have a job and many friends here on the forum.
Rich or poor it's nice to have money, but how many wealthy people went broke because of ill health? As Popeye says, "I yam what I yam." Just remember- the grass on the other side of the fence may be greener, but it still needs mowing.
Enjoy what you do and do what you enjoy. Wish you health and happiness.

Flip, [(-D] [(-D] [(-D]That’s great! I love the way of describing it! [(-D] By the way, look at the ear of corn. Look at the ear on the left side. There should only be one peel or what ever you want to call it coming off. If there is a second small one coming off below it, it’s very valuable. Apparently they’re worth quite a bit of money. I check every quarter I get anymore, hoping to finance the ARK’s new branch....

Antonio, From what I though Bergie just wants to talk and he may then let him back. I wouldn’t count on him coming back with the same name though......

Well, I have to get going, it’s back to the old Homework grind. I also hope to work a little on my art project for the Art contest the town has every year. I bet you all can guess what my drawing is.........That’s right! It’s a drawing of the WSOR’s E units, 10A and 10C. I hope it turns out well. I drew one of the WSOR’s regular units last year and it didn’t win, and I don’t expect this one too either, as there just 2d drawings, but at least I’ll have a piece of artwork to match last year.

See ya!

Evening all. Well the rain has stopped, so the water didn't get up. Guess, I can put my duck suit away for now.

Here is a picture of the Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 I have.

All I need is a tender for it. As stated earlier, Duke says he has one.

Hi guys,

Just stopping in to say hi. Well, you've read that Bergie sent Biggie (Parker) packing. I have a feeling that he'll come back with another name. I know it's hard but consider encouraging him if he does return.

Well, getting back to work. See ya!

Morning/afternoon all....

another nice day out here in the land of smog (I can't see the mountains anymore it's so thick) partly cloudy with lots of sunshine..... it's supposed to be around 65 or so today and right on till sunday.... then sunday night or monday morning the weather guessers are saying that it's going to start raining again.... not as bad as this last one but this one will probably break the record of 38 or 39 inches for the season.

in a couple weeks I think my dad and I are going into our storage to look to see if our old train stuff is still in there or not... if it is I will be checking my HO stuff out to make sure it still runs... if there are no problems with it I will be selling it to help get stuff for my new layout... like DCC.

well I'm off for now.... need to find something for breakfast or lunch what ever it is now... see you all later.

Well, I do have a heart. All they did was the echo test. Dr. had an emergecy at hosp.
Never showed up. A p.a. was supposed to come in for the stress test-never showed so after an hour, and the tech not being concerned by the echo test, I left.

Noah- saw my first Wisconsin quarter. Looks like a kids story. The cow eats the corn and LOOK, makes cheese.

Ryan- It's all local county and state 2 laners. Longest one way is 36 miles. It's back and forth, circle around, pickup 2,drop off 1, pickup 2 more drop 3. Chase here, go there. All bleeping day. And every day it's different people but the same headache. At least I know where I'll stop at night just don't know when.
It's a job and I am helping others and have made some nice friends. Downside is loosing some of them. I am very thankful I am healthy at my age to be able to do for them.
Coffee cup is empty-time for refill and then attend to honey-do list Deb has for me. Back to work tomorrow morning.
Oh, if dr. sees the tape of echo test and has neg. thoughts, will get in touch with us.

Hi everyone.

Sorry Zoe, got a cold, that why I turned my head.... A very large OJ please.

I've had this head cold since Tuesday and Gloria is bound determined that the only way to shake it is to stay in bed, with a water line to my lips, chicken noodle soup and just rest. Meanwhile she hovers around and every time I move or twich, she wants to know why..... She fell asleep, so I snuck out of bed..........

I'll be back later

A big [#welcome][#welcome][#welcome][#welcome] to our new visitors, please do come in often and have fun.

Trolleyboy, sounds like a good idea. Though where I live, it might be a bad idea. It might hit the junk lying around and burst. Which would propel me into the trees. Maybe I could build a raft with all the tires lying around. Who knows.[:D]

QUOTE: Ed I'm lost which joke did you fall for...

It was Duke's "ORF" comment, I had to ask what that stood for!

Ryan, ah yes, Cuernavaca, city of eternal spring. Great place.

Tim, went and checked for smoothie recipes on the web. Basically what we'd call a "Liquado" down here. But some great ideas. The ones I've seen here seem to be rather ordinary. But they've got some great ideas for jazzing them up, even using orange juice! Imagine that. I'll have to try some.

Don't know if you guys noticed it or not, but fwtNSengineer is the real thing, a railroad engineer. I'll assume on NS? Congrats, you're our first 1:1 scale railroader here on the forum, although not our first Hoosier.

Speaking of which, anyone heard from Lawrence (PennsyHoosier) lately? We may also need to send the dogs back to look for Luc. Hope his absence doesn't mean that Gloria is having more problems.

Later

Good Morning Ladies and Gentleman! A hot cup a Joe for me this morning!

I’ve been keeping busy with work during the day and the ceramic tile lying at night. The pantry area next to the train room is done now, and I just have the kitchen to complete. I’m going to try to get all the full tile pieces done tonight for the kitchen, and then do all the cut pieces on Friday night. Then on to the grout! I got a call from Lowe’s and the bathroom fixtures that were on special order are in, so we will probably pick them up on Saturday morning, and try to start on that room Saturday. I am redoing the wall wainscoting and plumbing in the bathroom too!

We have had two days of rain, it all started two nights ago with earth shaking thunder and lightening, and then yesterday it rained cats and dogs all day long. At least it has stopped this morning, but more is predicted this afternoon. When will we dry out? I just hope we get some of this rain during the spring when the plants will really need it then.

I understand some of the difficulty getting enough people to ‘volunteer’ to help with clubs and organizations. Glad you got some willing (sort of?) workers. It really works much better once there are enough people involved to help out. Lightens the load for everyone. My . And yeah, you’d better fix that threshhold on the door - otherwise the outside mice/rats would come in and maybe chew on your benchwork, wiring, scenery, etc. Keep the varmits out - just ask Teffy!

Seems like everyone is excited about their new positions in the Pack, so it is up to me to get the transition flowing, and hopefully by April the weight will be lifted and they can take over the reigns. I got the threshold in Monday night and sure enough it started to rain Tuesday night, just in time. I just hope the caulk had time to cure! I still need to put a coat of exterior paint on it though, it has about three layers of Kilz primer on it that should be good for a few days. Yes, I have enough to think about keeping the cat and dogs away from the layout, varmits be gone!!!

Greg,
I had the same feeling when I went back to school a few years ago, just one more year left and I was ready to break out! I finally got my degree after going to night classes and working full time to fulfill my career change. “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it was a homeless man with a flashlight!” LOL

Haven't had much time to catch up here, but I will when the rain slows down. More rain coming.

Tim,
You sound like us in south Louisiana! We have that kind of stuff happen here all the time! And now we are getting the rain too, again! That canned sunshine comes in handy, huh! Glad to hear it is finally clearing up and getting back to normal. Your account on the lake is amazing! Watch out for the sinkholes!

Ryan:Greg is reporting fog. A couple of days ago we woke up to 7F, and a little sea fog, here’s what it looks like.

John,

Wow! Great photo of the sea fog, and 7F is really cold! Thanks!
And the layout is coming along nicely I see! The roadway looks great, what material or method are you using for pavement? Opps, I see you already answered the same question! Thanks! I need to come into the Coffee Shop more often, just wi***he demands right now were not so crazy!

Really a lazy day down here. Just warm enough, but with a slight breeze, to lull one to sleep. I was sitting in the swing on the terrace, working on a crossword puzzle, and bam, naptime. That’s probably what I enjoy most about retirement, nap when the mood strikes.

Ed,
Man you’re making me miss Mexico! The last time I was there in 1987 we stayed in a hacienda in Cornavaca that was on a tall bank looking over a river. At the time my then girlfriend’s dad was staying at this place because he worked there for about 6 months, we got to tag along for a week. It was fun, and the Yucatan is great too!

[#welcome] csxguy. Drop in anytime and have a drink on me!

Flip,
Man, that is a long drive! Be sure to take a rest here and there, local roads are sometimes the best way to go, not as much traffic. Good luck with the stress test, and be sure to take some time for relaxation just before the test.

Finally caught up!

See you all later!

Good morning clubbers,

hope all is well. Sit down for the shock, SoCal has sun, blue sky, and no clouds. We didn't send the rain back up north where it belongs, we sent it to Texas last I heard. That state is so big, the needed some more variety.

Thanks for all the well wishes of so many on this forum. You guys are great.

Ed a smoothie is fruit, ice, sometimes milk, maybe some protien powder all blended. If you go serious about it, many add additives like bee pollen, vitamin C, and other healthy items. I just like it, kinda like a 7/11 slurpee for adults. Gonna go make a banana, peach one now. Take care all.

John, hope you find out the bus route that'll let you stay off base and get to/from okay. I know it can be done - when I was stationed at Millington, TN (near Memphis), they had reliable bus service (in town and another that ran to Millington), and I was able for a long while to 'commute'. [tup] Key word was reliable (i.e., on-time) buses (unlike the buses in St. Louis when I tried to use those. They stopped even putting a schedule on the bus stop signposts there...[:(!]

Will pray for just the right bus (or combination) to allow you to make the commute and still have some layout space you can use.

Ed, I'll have next weekend off, so off to the Riverwalk and Dirty Nelly's! What a place that joint is....
I hope the weather co-operates for the next 2 weeks and I don't get 'flooded out' !

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

Good Morning Coffee Clubbers,

A bit still and muggy this morning when we walked the dogs. Supposed to be another warm one today. But the forecast, useless that it is down here, says there may be a cooler front blowing in tonight or tomorrow that will bring us a couple days of cooler weather. We’ll see.

Flip, good luck with the stress test.

Paul, I had no idea that there was a variety of Bermuda grass grew tall enough to serve as hay. Of course, I’m used to the type that they use on the golf course. The sprigging I understood, I just couldn’t figure out what crop got planted that way. Still want to know what “chisel plowing“ is.

Funny thing is, I don’t really know what a “smoothie” is! I assume it’s some kind of blender drink. Supose I could look it up on a Google search.

Today's my last day in the shop till the 14th of March. Please try and keep the posts to a minimum! I had a 4-day weekend last weekend and when I came in on Tuesday, I had 6 pages to catch up on! So, 6 pages in 4 days... 6 goes into 18 days ( off tomorrow) 3 times... so, I expect that at this rate, you all will have approximately 18+ pages posted that I'll have to read up on before I can reply again.... My eyes will be hurting!
Well, time to do some more work. TTYL!
