We're praying for those of you in Florida, and along the East Coast... God Bless You, and protect you. Looking serious and deadly today, so hopefully it calms down very soon.
Take care.

By the time Charley gets here to Connecticut tomorrow, the winds will have died down to around 40 mph (65 kph for Lupo). However, there should be torrential rain.

I think I'll be spending tomorrow indoors. I'm just glad I don't live in Florida.

Good Morning All:

I live on the TEXAS gulf coast so I know what you mean Phil. When I was in college (1960) a hurricane came in and they wanted ham radio operators to go to Port Arthur and broadcast what was happining, my dad and I went down and for two days watched the gulf almost come over the storm leeve. I got to ride out on the patrols and their was electric wires dancing all over the streets and down trees, it wasn't a pretty sight. The clean-up takes forever.

When I got married we moved to Groves and that is 17 miles closer to the gulf then Beaumont. Our house is on piers so we're at least 19" off the ground. Good luck for the trains - they're all up stairs.

Today we get to go operate a layout that isn't used very much anymore, it takes up a large two car garage. I'm taking two of my locos and a throttle. We hope to have about 6 guys, it makes for a nice day. I will probably only stay about 4 hours and then come home and lay some more switches on my layout.

YNCS:
Do you display your layout? The wife and I are going to New England and Nova Scotia and will be comming back through CT. We are going to stop at quite a few layouts and railroad museums. We are going to leave around the last of Sept or the first of Oct. This is also a fall color trip. I've been there many times but she always had to stay home and watch the shop, so this is her year. It will be interesting to put a face and voice with the posting.

LUPO:
What four pairs of trucks are you going to paint? Surely not the Intermountian. I run both colors and don't worry about it.

JPM335:
I've owned several Bachman locos and when I had trouble I call - they get the parts out very quickly and also talked me through the problems.

der5007:
I bet the roaches loved that floor. Is your layout N or HO? When I told Stephanie (wife) that we were going to see your layout, her commet was that's two in two days, yours and Fergies. Will I have a long day going from Halifax to Beddeck with time for you and Sherebrooke village?

Brakie:
I trying to figure out how the get to you hometown the easiest way. Is you layout N or HO?

Well I've got to get dressed and get over to Mickies and have a fun day.

Have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

I second that.

Noah [:)]

Congrats on the new star, it is always good to have another star by your name. I think I remember my fourth star. [;)]

This is day number 27 in a row without a day off and this week has been 10 hour shifts. So I have a little over 48 hours in this week and add Saturday and Sunday for a total of just over 64 hours. Noah, Jim, Jonathon, JCTrain, both Chris(s) and all the other younger ones here in the forums do ENJOY life and high school now while you can. This should be a golden time in your lives and it definately tarnishes after you start working full time. So you may be a little bored now, but that definately beats being tired and worn out all the time.

Mikey Gaw [8D]

Your package is in the mail. Enjoy. [:)] You should get it Monday.

HI Everyone else. [;)]

I think Lupo will agree that after working so many days you wake up not even knowing what day it is anymore. You kist get up and go through the motions.

Well I got about 5 hours sleep last night. There is so much to do today and not a lot of energy to do it. <Maybe I can talk Noah, Chris, Jim, or Jonathon into mowing my lawn [;)] . >

Well my coffee cup beckons and I must obey. [;)]

Jim: [^]
I know what you are going through working that many hours, and days without any time off [xx(] at least I know that it is temporary, as the tourist season is coming to an end, and I am getting a short vacation next week ( 5 day trip to Legoland in denmark with my son ) after that it's back to work, as we are going to miss two crewmembers for the upcoming month, and the workload is not decreasing.

TEFFY: At first I thought that I might paint over the Intermountain trucks, but as you say SF ran all kind of shades silver-grayish trucks I decided to put the set on display in the living room and watch it for a while to see if it is really necessary to paint those trucks.

Thanks Krump, Charley or Charlie, what ever the case may be didn't hit the lower five east coast counties but did give us a brisk breeze yesterday to kind of keep the day a little cooler but really did a number on the west coast and up through the middle of the state, then left the state by way of the upper east coast area. There really isn't much of Florida that wasn't touched by this one in one way or another. We were very lucky. This storm gave some real meaning to Friday the 13th to those folks on the west coast. Lots of damage. Fortunately, the death toll isn't to awfully high but even one is really too many. I'll be glad when summer is over. It's like going thru the cold war all over again, every year.

Hi there Emeraldisle !
good to read you came through Charlie without major problems, I saw on the news they predicted the path of that thing going north possibly hitting a lot more states so
it seem to keep causing problems for a lot of you!

Ya, it's a mean one alright, My brother lives on the west coast about 40 miles from the Charlot Inlet, where this thing came. His power and cable went out about 15 minutes apart. His winds were about 55-75 but just south in Fort Myers, They were up to 125mph. He was on the North side of the storm and Ft Myers was on the southeastern side. What a differance.

Teffy: Good afternoon. Slow start to the day as it's our anniversary, and the morning was given over to cleaning out the drain at the back of the fridge (and while we're at it, the whole fridge inside and out, why not? You know a relationship has weathered some when anniversaries start there, and go on to dinner out!

You asked
"der5007:
I bet the roaches loved that floor. Is your layout N or HO? When I told Stephanie (wife) that we were going to see your layout, her commet was that's two in two days, yours and Fergies. Will I have a long day going from Halifax to Beddeck with time for you and Sherebrooke village?"

It would be a full day. The road isn't that great, as you may remember. Sherebrooke will take you an hour maybemore to go around, depending on your interest, and is at least an hour from here. We are 1 3/4 hours from Halifax/Dartmouth. Baddeck is about 130 miles from Sherebrooke. ( first 38 on the highway #7 up the St. Mary's river to Antigonish, the rest on a reasonable twinned highway or major two way ) Then there's eating time, and a minute or two to see the layout here. [:D]

On the roaches, curiously, there weren't any. In fact I don't remember roaches being a feature of UK life.
Kris is stiring,so it's time for tea. Regards, John.

So, I go downstairs for tea, and there's a travel section open in the paper with a half page ad. for Baddeck! Dr. Carl Jung loved this kind of stuff, called it synchronicity or some such, I think.
Didn't answer the scale question. I'm in N. (more layout per unit measure) Used to be in HO.

Phil here.

Phil here. Just tired. Work for Lake County Transit taking less able folks to drs.
dialysis, work-whereever they need to go. Had about 4 hours sleep when phone
got me up. Had to take folks from the shelters to their homes but to wait for the
police to tell us the areas are safe.
My area was lucky. Storm stayed south.Minimum damage ,mostly tree limbs.Don't
know how the "G" men made out. Thanks to all for your prayers and good wishes.
Keep 'em rolling and stay safe. Hope you Yankees have as much luck as I have.
Modelers are good people to know.
Best wishes to all, Phil.

lupo- Ever hear of Django Reinhardt ? Had two lp's by him till Andrew. Could only
find one cd since. Missing some of his better stuff. True it's music of the 30's and
40's but he could play.
I have a cd I got at Cracker Barrel restaurant called "
the Lonesme Whistle". All instruments-fiddle,banjo,mandolin,guitar,dobro andbass.
Wabash Cannonball,City of New Orleans and 12 more rr songs. Some good
southern style music. Love to play it while in my car.
Peace to all.

[:D][:D][:D] started laying track on my new layout today. Dont have much done and lots more to lay. but i should have trains running on at least 1 main by next week. Got a question though. Is that blue foam board strong enough to support yard tracks? my benchwork is 18" between each support and its a 10 track yard.

Depends upon its thickness. Probably safer with 1/8 sheet of plywood underneath it.
Other modelers will have more/better ideas.

YNCS: Peter you wrote regarding Teffy's visit
"If you want to see trains running around primarily on benchwork, come on down."

That's all Bob is going to see when he comes here, but really I don't think he's concerned. What is, is. Sort of what they call in England, "Hobson's choice", which you would appreciate! [:D]

JPM I've yards with no plywood and 32 inches between supports (brackets), but with 1x2 all along the back edge, (at the wall). It works fine for N on a 12 inch shelf.
However, there is a noise component to the mix. The foam acts like the speaker cone! So, if you are going to need quiet for sound effects, etc, use some ply, and a sound deadening roadbed.
I'm not undoing what I've got, but when I built out the rest of the layout, I used 1/2 inch ply.
Oh, almost forgot, 1 inch blue foam, not that the color is of any consequence.
John.

OK thanks. Sound isnt really an issue for me but if it gets too loud i guess i can stuff about a million cotton balls up in there[:P][:P][:P] Anyway i think ill at least test out some of the foam. If i like it ill do the rest of the yard. My mainlines are on ply so it wouldnt be constant noise anyway. just when i did some switching or picked up a new train.

Once again thanks for the help.

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a beautiful morning in the mountains. The coffee is wonderful, and there isn't too much on the schedule for today. I hope everybody in Florida and on the East Coast came through Charley OK. I think breaking even is about the best you can hope for when one of them gets close. One of my Aunts lives in Orlando. She had some damage to her house and several big trees down, but fortunately she went over to her daughter's to stay so she is OK. Everybody else in the family came through fine.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was a great guitarist ! Fantastic music. He was another of the great ones who left way too soon. But we still have the music.

We've got to take Shawna, our daughter, down to college Wednesday morning. So the ladies will be taking a look at stuff and making sure that everything is ready to go. The best thing I can do while that's going on is just to stay out of the way.

Hope everybody has a great day,
Tom
