Russell, I gave up following the Vikings, my heart can't take it any more. Are you coming up here for training camp? (I mean football, though maybe I should start a railroad "training camp".) The Chief's camp is about 10 miles from my house. Brock's decision seems a bit silly all things considered. Especially since the injuries in the NFL are real.

Fergie, I was going to say the bad guys die in the movie, but that isn't entirely true. I guess you will just have to go see it.[:p]

Jim, I don't think UP will change the schedule to make life easy on us railfans. We'll just have to muddle through the long dark winter doing other activities. Between school and work, you'll be lucky to find time to work on your layout.[:0][;)]

Good Evenin' Everybody,
It's been a wonderful day in the mountains today. The coffee was wonderful this morning. Louise and I went out to breakfast after we had our good coffee on the porch. Then we went up to Murphy to check out a big flea market. We didn't find anything we couldn't live without but we had fun checking everything out. This afternoon I took out 2 small trees that needed to go to open up the space for our next garden. This one is going to be an asian garden with Japanese maples, small bamboo and lots of other cool stuff.

I got the Genesis F3's finished yesterday. They are weathered very lightly ( they were almost brand new in my time period). They look, run, and sound good. I'm pleased with them.

George, I agree with you. Any day on which you see a caboose is a good day. They are always worth photographing beacause they are getting real rare outside of museums.

Hawk, I haven't seen the Bourne Supremacy yet, but I really liked the Bourne Identity. I think Matt Damon is excellent as Jason Bourne. I'm looking forward to seeing the new one.

Jonathon, I agree with everybody else. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES. Berkshires are beautiful locomotives, and steamers will only become more and more rare.

Chris, it sounds like you have lots of fun stuff to do. If I can make a suggestion, take the time to test run the Genesis 2-8-2 on the radius curves and the grades you plan to use on your layout before you put a lot of time into superdetailing it. They are very light and also very tailheavy out of the box, which gives them a nasty habit of derailing the lead drivers on fairly tight curves and fairly steep grades. I've got 2 of them up and running and detailed out. I've got a lot of time in them and have done a lot to try to make them track better. One I'm happy with and one I'm not. I'll be glad to discuss them with you if you'd like. My email address is [e-mail]. There have also been a lot of posts about them on these forums. I'm really not trying to discourage you, but I felt like I should at least mention my experience with them.

Elliot- you're right. school probably won't be to hard on me. i have a bunch of business and internet classes with a teacher who never assigns any homework. its all done in class on the computer. like adding a picture to a website or something like that. i'll only have English and Pre-Calc to worry about. i hate math and reading isn't one of my favorite things in the world either. i'm also planning on picking up work experience as a class. that is where i get out at 2:30, school normally gets out at 3:20, and i go to work. i only need to work 10 hours per week to get credit for the classes.

i told my boss if i get that class that i'll work from 3-6 or something a few nights a week so i can go to as many sporting events as possible. then i can maybe work like a friday or something where there is an away football game. its my senior year and i want to go to everything i possibly can.

so that will be 3 things i'll have to contend with, school work, work, and then sporting events. i almost forgot something, i have to work out to for baseball so i can add some power and speed hopefully for next year. and i almost forgot another thing, bowling. i don't know what league i'll be in yet this year. its either the teen league again or if i might bowl for the team my uncle sponsors on monday nights. i don't know how much time i'll have for a layout or how much money i'll have since all games cost $3 to get into, i'll need money for gas, and i'll have to make car payments.

then on weekends i'll have to try and convince my parents, mainly my mom to go on railfan trips. actually i'll probably start doing that by myself. what is it 65 or 61 on the MN side down to Winona and then 35 or 63 on the WI side down to Winona will be where i go. might as well get used to the roads if i'm gonna go to college down there. weekends will probably be the only time i can go on trips like that or even see trains.

wow i got a lot of stuff to do this winter/year. should be very fun though.

Morning all!!!

Just stopped in to grab a chocolate milk before going out to work on the deck again.
It's been a about 2 months now since last working on the railroad. What a drag it's been.
I am however still actively pursuing new locomotives & rolling stock though.
My Proto D&H RS11 is a nice runner & I've bought my first Atlas products.
A couple of kaolin cars that I bought second hand from a freind. $12 each CAN
I haven't seen them on the track yet, so I'm going by what everyone is saying about Atlas stuff.

GOOD MORNING ALL:

The second cup of tea sure hits the spot. I inherited a roll-around tool box from my dad. It took me over six years to open that box because it was his. I've spent the entire week sanding, primeing, and finally yesterday painting this box so I can put it up in the train room and maybe organize my tools and spare parts. It will roll under the layout and out of the way when I'm operating and that will beats moving things off the layout when I want to run trains. Of course I remember Murphy's law about stuff (junk to others). The amount of accumulation is directly proportional to amount of space that is available. I went upstairs this morning and the paint still has a smell so I can't put the drawers in yet.

Since you're using different transformers (power packs) to do the blocking on the M.E.S.S., what we can do is just disconnect the transformers and hook all of the right rail leads together and hook all of the left rail leads together and hook all of that to the Digitrax Chief, that will put all of the blocks in parallel, which is what we need to have for the DCC to work right. Jumper wires with alligator clips will work fine since this is going to be a short time setup. If we cross one of the leads the DCC will shut down when the train crosses into that block since we wont have the automatic block reverser. I don't want to mess up your wiring so you can't go back to the way it is now.

Would you rather I bring a Spectrum SP Mountian then the Genesis SF Warbonetts? I'm still planning on bringing the BLI 4-8-4 also.

I am looking forward to seeing your Genesis as I'd like to lightly weather mine and am looking for ideas. The paint is so pretty that I'll have a hard time getting started. I've bought all of the Walthers Super Chief cars so I think that I wont do one set of the F-7's since they'll be pulling that train. That leaves one other F-7 set and an F-3 set to do. I decided not to buy the locos that Walthers is offering with the Super Chief because of the price, I think that the dummy pair is way overpriced.

Ok guys, here's the picks of the Berk. She's a beautiful machine[:D], one of 2 PM Berks left. To bad she's not under steam[:(] (but her sister, 1225, is)







She's sitting along the Grand River that empties into Lake Michigan maybe a mile up river. She's coupled to a PM Boxcar, a PM Caboose, and a GTW Caboose. There's also and old signal and coal tower nearby.

Howdy all, I've been absent recently, my Dad and I went up to Green Bay area and such. One of our stops was the national railroad museum, which was nice but definately not what I was expecting. I did get to see what I wanted to see though, the Former Wisconsin and Calumet 2 remaining F7's, F7b, and two BL2's in WICT paint but owned by a private collector. Also got to see the Big Boy they have there, and well, all I can say is, Boy! is she a Big Boy! Got to see a few CN owned trains on the lines around there, and got one really nice picture I'm going to try to get on railpictures.net. Well I got to go, as I got to go finnish catching up on all the topics. I'm glad to be back though. And by the way, I hope to have a few pics on line of the TC in the next few days. I finally got the camera to focus right, but there still not the best pictureas, but they'll do.

I'm hopeing to catch the Local in town tonight, so i got to go do something and monitor the scanner. Oh, another thing. Up at the National Railroad museam, thay had last years copy of Model Railroad planning. I had been wanting it but didn't have any place to get it. Well I bought it, and Kalambach has got me hooked for every year frm now on!

Mitchell (Sask_Tinplater) drew me a pic with 3 locos on it. They were all steam locos. One of the locos was a 4-4-0 built around 1870 for Inter Colonial Railroad. [:D] He mailed me this pic about a year ago and it now hangs on my living room wall. This hand drawn picture is framed and is one of my prized possessions. When I saw your post I knew I had heard that name and check the picture and sure enought that was it. [;)] Pretty cool huh? Well I think so anyway. [:p] The internet is bringing people together who may never actually meet but it is still a way to meet and make friends. And that too, is pretty cool. I consider my internet friends just as much "friends" as my local working buddies or church friends. Plus add personal emails, letters and cards, by regular post office mail, and phone calls, then internet friends become real friends too. And that is way too far out super cool. [:D] [:D] [:D]

I was looking at your pictures and saw a 2-6-6-6, is that the Rivarossi? I bought one awhile back but got a Proto 2-8-8-2 before I opened the box, now I'm thinking about selling it. I was going to list it in MR but the price for the ad was $39.80 which I thought was kinda steep for a loco that I wanted $400.00 for. I'm thinking that I might put it on eBay around Nov. or the first of Dec. I'd really like to open the box and look at it but I figure that that will decrease the value. I'm going to get a good look at yours while I'm there.

On our vacation we're going to leave Beaumont Texas around 7:00 AM I hope to eat lunch in Texarkanna. We should be comming through Little Rock about the middle or late afternoon. We'd very much like to have coffee (tea) with you. I don't know what day we will be leaving yet. We want to be in West Memphis for the night. AHHHH the advantages of being semi-retired. We are trying to get to Detroit around lunch time the third day so we can spend all afternoon at the Ford museum, and then go into Canada.
