QUOTE: trainwreck: Ed: Your present's in the mail unless you've already got it. My birthday is on the 8th, what are you sending me?

It's not my birthday (yet), I was quoting Erdle from Krbyvlle. Does that mean I have to send it back when it comes? Actually, if you mailed it to Mexico I don't really need to worry about getting it.....................

I'm still working on yours....................

Hi All; I've got to keep up with the replys. I had to go through 5 pages to get all the stuff together.

Luct; Welcome to the coffee shop.We're happy to have you on board. It sounds like you and Fergie may have crossed paths before. Strange things happen in this world.

RDL;HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope that you had a real good day. Lots of good MRR stuf for gifts. We used RR money. In order for the railroad to purchase a car or loco there had to be enough income to cover the cost of the item. The price was determinded by the estamated cost in the time period that we we're modeling. The system pointed out real fast the short comings in our railroad traffic base.
The Duluth, Superior & Southeastern is a fictional ore hauling and bridge railroad running from Duluth MN, Superior WI east and to Marquite MI and south to Chicago. I'm not modeling the entire railroad just the district in and around Marquite. I maybe moving the modeled district west to the Iron Range to Huron bay area. That area aeems to fit the layout better. Anyway, moving iron ore to a lake port is the main job on my division.
Tell us more about your RR.

JP; That sounds like a great plan. I'll be waiting for more up dates.

Fergie; Hows Greg doing? Hope that he feels better soon. So with only 28 days at see who's going to run the ship while you'er busy with all that MRRing to do?Oh yea, the captain.

Der; Ground Up??? You mean you don't chew them and drink hot water as a chaser? How unusual.

Well the dog has been out for her nightly walk and I'm pooped. We've got to take the newer truck in to have a brake job. That leaves us driving the 84 diesel with out a heater. Of course it's cold now so well freeze our ears off.

You all have a good night and I'll say hello tomorow.

Wow, cool

This month I have my brother-in-laws bday on the 10th, my wife's nieces & my b/day on the 15th, my father-in-law's bday on the 20th, then the Christmas holidays after that!
Mix in the 4 year anniversary of my father's death on the 21st & the first Christmas w/o my mom & you wind up with a whacky roller coaster of emotions around this time of year for myself!

Ed- good to hear from you, I was going to send you a mail yesterday, but i checked your profile and you posted on the 29th, so I figured you were just enjoying your fine weather.If you hadn't gotten on today, tho, I was gonna start the search.
Ferg- Have you ever mentioned to someone who is not an MR about all of the stuff you take with you on your ship? They must think it's as big as the Enterprise. Be safe and stay dry.
Now for something sad- I bought 11 4x8 1 1/2 " thick styrofoam sheets last week, but will any of them be used for a new layout? Nooooooo, believe it or not, some maniac discovered that they can also be used as- are you ready for this- INSULATION! And unfortunately, that is this foams fate. Breaks your hearts, dosn't it?
Gonna try to head to a LHS today, we'll see how it works out, as we have our C-mas party tonight, and time will be a bit tight. Maybe tomorrow if not today.
And one of my resolutions this year is to check in here on a more regular basis so I don't have to spend 3 hours catching up.
Take care, guys.

No kidding, you can really use that stuff for insulation??? Wow, it's amazing the uses you can find around the house for model railroad items. Eleven sheets, huh, that's a lot of mountains gone to waste. Save the cutoffs.......

Yeah, I went into lazy(er) mode for a few days after getting back from the trip. I'm back into trying to post responses more frequently rather than waiting a whole day. We'll see how long this new regime lasts.

Glad to hear you're planning on dropping in more often.

Gordon, that is a lot of December celebrating/memories. Keep focus on the positive stuff.

I've been there Gordon It's been five years since Lisa's Dad's passing. The first few years are tough ones to say the least but it does get better as the good times always shine through. His Birthday was Mid December, my Mother was in the end of October as it is now It starts Mid November in this house and by the time Mid January comes around, we've seen 5 Birthdays. Since I'm on the tail end the Birthday cheer has dried up [:(]

Of course there was the Christmas from H.E. double hockey sticks where the week before Christmas, and all through the ship not a seaman could be heard not even the cook, then all of a sudden the phone did a ring and the the Captain said "It's for you so you better come quick" Up I arised, bounded for the Phone to be greeted by Mom telling me to come home as Lisa had broken her ankle!

It was the week Before Christmas and the Christmas Shopping hadn't been done, Man o Man did I have a nasty frown, But with great cunning and strength and snow shovel in hand I beat off the competition and managed the impossible. I rounded up the goodies in two days no less and kept my sanity then sat down for a rest.

And without any collateral damage!! Man are some people stupid drivers at Christmas time. It's Safer on the high seas.

As for the family I dare say we might have to scrub camp this weekend as everyone is fighting this thing off now and the last thing I need is to get worse and drag this thing onboard. Lunch time is my cutoff time. I'll just have to wait and see.

As long as the work gets done the Captain is happy. The Building is great for passing the evening away. Kinda makes 28 days go by very quick.

Anyway i have things to do

That's the second one you've been baited with! Just curious to see who would take the S Car Got.

H=Have
A=a
G=Good
O=one
G=Gents/Gals

Though I think some might take offence to being called one of the Gals even though my wife thinks "we" are worse then a gaggle of geese at times.[:I] She's even threatened to go on line to see what we write about. ('fraid we're being bad)

Yeah, I figured you were trolling, but my curiosity got the better of me and I had to bite. I actually asked yesterday, but I think you and I were posting almost at the same time and my post came out just as you were finishing yours. You probably didn't even see it.

So what day in Jan is your BD? I assume if it's mid-month you'll be back in port to celebrate? Are you leaving Lisa a copy of your 'wish list' at the LHS to pick your present?

Good Morning All:

Do you remember me??

I've been cleaning house for thanksgiving and then straighening up after most everyone left (we had guest from the Wed. before thanksgiving until the Mon. after).

This darn estate is becoming a big job - I spent one half day in the lawyers office because one heir is greedy and doesn't like the way we divided everything up, eight equal parts.

If I ran my business the same way Dr's run theirs I'd be out of business, I took mom to two Drs Wed and both were 1 1/2 hours running late. The operation was a sucess and the eye is healing nicely. looks like we get to keep her for another week or so as she still needs drops.

The railroad hasn't made much progress lately as I've had so much to do but I've already told Stephanie that Sat is my day and I'm going to play.

I can't believe how many pages have been posted in the last week and I haven't had time to read them yet.

Fergie:
It was nice to talk to you yesterday, boy talk about short conversations it was only 52 minutes long. I feel bad about you having to be away from Lisa and the boys for Christmas but been there, done that. When I was a port engineer my district covered about 650 miles of coast and several times I had to miss either Christmas or Thanksgiving. It was a lonely time for me as our family is big on both.

Well let me get ready for work

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's another frosty morning in the mountains this morning. We were down in the high teens when I got up to get the coffee going. It's going to be a beautiful day though. It's supposed to get up into the high 40's this afternoon. The trip to the "LHS" went well. They had almost everything I was looking for. Since I needed some Microscale lettering and stripe sheets and some Cal Scale and Precision Scale steam locomotive detailing parts, almost everything isn't bad. It's a good store. Nice people who are glad to see you when you walk in, and very knowledgeable, and a good inventory.

Shawna has a chorus perfromance tonight, so we're going to Gainesville as soon as Louise can get home. We'll stay down there tonight and then the three of us will go Christmas shopping tomorrow. With any luck, we'll get it finished up tomorrow. Shawna is doing well. She still tires easily, but she's almost done with this semester. Next week is finals week and then that's it. We're really looking forward to having her home.

The jokes have been really good. Luct, I particularly liked the one about the engineers. One line to set it up, and then the punch line nails you. It's hilarious!

Fergie, have a good cruise and stay safe. You're right about the turnouts. Past a certain point, it's just time to yank them out and fix the problem once and for all.

Phil, that sounds like a terrible waste of good model railroad supplies. Couldn't you just put more wood on the fire?

Chris, the 406 Ford engine was available in 1961 and 1962 with either a single 4 bbl. or 3x2bbls. It was available only in the full sized cars. It was a pretty good engine, but the 427, which came out in '63 was much stronger. The 289 Hi-Performance, at 271 rated horsepower was a really good little engine. I had a buddy who had one in a '64 Falcon Sprint. It was very quick.
Actually ,messing with Chevrolets could be very successful and quite profitable. All of the "Big 3" manufacturers had good engine-chassis combinations available for both drag racing and NASCAR. It usually came down to who built the engine and chassis, who was driving, and who was having a good day that day. It sure was fun.

I'd better go for now and get a few things done this morning.
Have a great day everybody,
Tom

Hey Teffy, welcome back. Figured you were busy with guests and cleaning. Forgot that your Mom was still getting her eye checked. Glad it turned out okay.

During my career I wasn't so much 'away from the family' at Christmas, but there were 4 or 5 years when we were living out of suitcases (in temp apts, hotels, or other temp housing) at that time because we were in the middle of another move from one project location to another.

Well at least you haven't opened up too much distance on me over this week. I figured that with my layout standing still you'd be way out in front. I've got to get busy too.

Regards

Ed

Gordon: You think Toronto is bad, try Calumet Oklahoma. We've got traffic like no other, I drove home yesterday and met one car in nine miles. if it gets any heavier they might have to two-lane that road.

Well all... thought I'd stop in. Been scrambling all afternoon to try and reserve a 'school' seat for a 2-wk class in San Antonio. Class starts Monday @ 7am. I'd have to fly down Sunday. Still no word yet and I leave in 20 minutes. Hmmmmm..... Although, I do have to be right back here tomorrow for work again. The one weekend this month we have to work. Oh well. I'll just do more scrambling tomorrow if they say that I got the seat as I'll have to leave early to go home and pack.
Talk to ya'll later....

Howdy all!! That's right, it's FRIDAY!!!!! The Weekend!!!!! That means time for modeling, railfanning, and a host of other things! I hope to get started on painting and decaling my next WSOR engine this weekend, and detailing it too. I'm also going to weather it like Bergie did in his artcile in the Dec MR. He used chalks, and I like the way he did it. It'll be my first weathering project, so I can't wait to get started.

Well, I got a little more surfing on the internet to do, so I'll see everyone later, but maybe will try to stop in if I can.

Hello, everybody. Gone less than 24 hrs, and it seems like a week.

CP5415: That's alot of celebrations/memories you have. Didn't think we were gonna mention deaths or other's birthday's. So, since you spoke first, here's an update. Dec. 3 is my second cousins birthday, Dec. 23 is the 7th anniversary of my grandma's death (my mom's mother), and the first anniversary of my 1st cousins death. So, looks like we have things in common. Hope bringing this topic up, didn't upset anybody.

As for the gifts. All I got was a radio, and Madden NFL 2004. Is that all, well, that's all my parents could afford. They let me pick my presents, anyway. That's all I wanted. I don't have the room for train stuff, right now. Besides, I'm waiting to get the gifts you guys got me. Hoped you all remembered, expensive.[:D]

Paul: Thanks for all the info. I'm still working on my idea. When I get it worked out, I'll let you know. As for my layout, it's none existent. You got a spare I could borrow.

Here's something that may be of help to those who are about to build benchwork. It's a peel and stick measuring tape. It comes made of plastic, or paper. You just un-roll it, remove the backing, and stick it. Here's a link to the website:

www.carltonusa.com

They also sell, traffic and road signs, barricades, identification tags, and a whole lot more. They have a free catalog you can order. They also make custom signs, including street signs.

Hey guys, speaking of jokes, here's another one. If there are any lawyers reading this, you might want to skip this part. And, besides, it's only a joke.

There are three guys, a rabbi, a hindu priest, and a lawyer, going somewhere's
But we don't know where, it's getting dark, and they need a place to stay
They come to a farm, and the farmer tells them he only has room for two in the house
One will have to sleep in the barn,
So, the rabbi says he'll go
A little while later, there a knock at the door, the farmer opens the door, it's the rabbi
he says he can't sleep in the barn, there's a pig in the barn, and his religion forbids
him to sleep under the same roof as a pig
So, the hindu priest says he'll go, a little while later, there's a knock at the door, the
farmer opens the door, it's the hindu priest, he says there's a cow in the barn, and his
religion forbids him to sleep under the same roof as a cow
So, the lawyer says he'll go, a little while later, there's a knock at the door, the
farmer opens the door,.....it's the pig, and the cow.[(-D][(-D][(-D]

Heard that one.

RDL, if you are suffering from forum withdrawl after less than 24 hours of downtime, you are definately HOOKED. That was quick.[swg]

Hey guys, Gary A came over as planned. After quick tour upstairs, I gave him the royal tour of the trainroom. We spent the last hour of his visit working on building a floor section. I came away with the impression that he liked the project. By the end, we had tenative date of a week from Monday set as the next session. I told him, if he knew of anyone else that would be interested, to let them know, or even bring them along.

This train is leaving the station!!!!![:D]
