It is STILL raining in northern Indiana as we speak--but the weatherman says it might change to that white stuff that has plagued (delighted?) some of you already. Good grief, will this never end??????[:(]

Fergie, I think you're right, there probably a few people out there who do want to "beat" me.

I see this posting business as a matter of principle now, though it didn't start out that way. I have my eye clearly fixed on the one person ahead of me, and vow that she will not win. I am content to let her play her game, and say anything she wants. I will however, try to maintain a higher standard of train related content while in persuit of my goal. Yes I deviate once in a while, in the name of fun and laughs, but that is part of why we are here. Maybe the biggest difference between me and her is that I don't go creating topics just to have something to talk about.[banghead]

By the way, this is a very challenging task, inspite of it's triviality.[:)][;)]

Well Elliot

If you want we can start a new thread called "Elliot's Quest" or "Mookie's Milestone" where you beat off the "Bull and Bear" I'm sure some would not see the humour in it and Bergie would have to lock it due to the "Flame Out" factor. Well it was a thought, sorry Elliot but the daze of DOS are gone and probably forgotten by most of the newer members.

Not much to write home about, did the Christmas Shoppong thing, Lisa's bought for, Made it to the LHS and bought a couple of things. Realized I will have to rip up to turnouts as they are causing me grief. They were to Shinohara double curved code 83 turnouts. I'll replace these with peco's. Unfortunately this was a section of track I have spent a great deal of time on, probably more than any other section. But this is the price I have to pay to get it ready for DCC. Good news is the wiring is getting done!

John you're gonna need Icebreaker support soon with all that ice!

PS I picked upa 2005 Walther's Catalogue to take to sea with me[:p]

Elliot, just keep on posting. I enjoy reading what you have to say, my friend. In fact, I enjoy reading the posts of all here. What a great forum! It gives great relief from an otherwise overly cluttered and tense life.

Also, you'll do fine with RR Tycoon II. The only reason to upgrade is if you get it REALLY, REALLY cheap, like I did. [;)]

Paul, thanks for the offer. I don't drink much coffee, though. A cup once in awhile, maybe. Sounds to me, like you used real money. I was thinking more along the lines of points, which I call RR dollars. One industry has, say, one thousand RR dollars, another 500 RR dollars (points). How do the industries get points. By charging their customers. For example, charge them so much per ton. I'll admit , it might be a little complicated. It's still a work in progress. All ideas would be appreciated. Sorry for any confusion about this. Also, Paul, please tell me more about "The Superior Route". I've been going back and forth on a name for my railroad. So for, I've settled on the "Valley Belt Railway" or VBR. It will be based in the East Texas region. I've also thought of another name that I may also go with. It's called the "Texas & Missouri Railway", or TXMO for short. It is pronounced Tex Moe. Does that sound like a railroad name or what.

I don't know but I thought Paul's coining him RDL worked real fine. As to a name for his RR well He'll have to give us more details as to the names of some of the towns in his area as well as what vintage he's modelling.

Thanks guys, and don't worry. When my mission is accomplished, I'll still be right here, working on the railroad and sharing my progress with all of you.

Speaking of progress, Friday is going to be a milestone day. I have found my first crew member!!! Gary A, a local from the forum, is coming over to lend a hand. We are going to kick some butt on benchwork.

Gary and I actually met last month at the local NMRA meeting, where I had set up a table in the back corner to promote the project. But it was really here on the forum where I caught his attention. We were talking about grain elevators, and I posted some photos of the South Minneapolis Milling district. Here's the link for those who are interested.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run to the lumber yard.[:D][:D][8D][:P][;)]

So you're not gonna be in the SpongeBob movie then? [:p]

I know the feeling of no basement.. Houses here In California usually don't have basements. Having a hole for your house to fall into during an earthquake probably isn't the best idea.

Afternoon all -
It's raining heavy, wind is gusting and it's very gloomy out today. Work on the layout is on hold till after the holidays as I can use all the money to get presents for the CFO and kid. So, with that in mind, I'm trying to organize all of my research material into categories and store them in document protectors in 3 ring binders. Progress on this is moving right along as I tried to keep it all organized from day 1. While doing this, I'm also trying to draw up a layout plan, etc, along with shopping lists for Motive Power, Rolling Stock, and Structures. For motive power, I'm looking at GP38-2's, a few GP9's, and possibly a SW or 2. I think the theme for my layout is going to be a Major Industrial city so there will be alot of switching on the layout. I'll throw in a mainline interchange w/ Conrail/CSX to show the inbound and outbound freight to my yard which will then do the switching for the industries.
Any thoughts?
JP

Hello, all. Hey, don't pick on me to much, or I'll sick the headless brakeman on ya'll. Just kidding. Who is the headless brakeman, you may be asking. Well, I'll tell you. About 50 miles SW of my house in the town of Saratoga, Tx, there is a mysterious light. People say it appears in front of you, then, behind you. Some say it will come right up to your car. They also say, if you turn your car off you can't start it, again. I've never seen it myself, though. There are so many rumors of what it really is. One of them talks about a railroad brakeman. The dirt road use to be a railroad right-of-way. He fell off the train, and got decapitated. People say the light is the brakeman searching for his head. So, I don't really know. What do you think. As for what to call me. I don't really care, as long as it's in time for dinner, or to watch the train go by. Most people call me Robert. That's my name, so, please don't wear it out.

There is a question I want to ask. Where are my presents? Tomorrow, Dec. 2, is my birthday. How old am I, you ask. Old enough to know better, but, still to young to care. Or, if you want a number, how about 30. As for the presents, anything expensive will do. If you guys pick on me, I'll pick right back. Just thought I'd let you know.

And about my idea. I've thought of more ways to use it. I'm still working on it. Some of us want to operate our trains like the prototypes do. This is a way to get closer to that feat. As for the story above. It's all true. So, the next time you see a light on the track make sure it's a train. And, not the headless brakeman searching for his head. TTFN

Well gang, I spent nearly $200 at the lumber yard. Now the fun part, unloading the truck. The other fun part will be the credit card bill.[xx(][;)]

I've been wondering why my back and legs have been sore for the last couple of days. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with working on the layout.[swg]

Welcome Luct to our, not so little gang of tracklaying, coffee guzzling MR's. Pull up a chair as the first round is yours and enjoy. Don't feel sorry for Elliot as he loves pain, he must, as he puts up with the rest of us daily!

Shopping for me is done and it wasn't as painful as anticipated.

Good Evening Everybody,
Today was another good day in the mountains. No railroading got done, but a lot of other useful stuff did. The christmas lights on the porch are up, the garland is up, the tree is up and the lights are on it. We've still got to finish decorating it, but that will get done tomorrow. A little later this evening I'll get the lights and garland up on the stairs. It's getting there. We've got a good start on the Christmas shopping, and with any luck we'll finish it up on Saturday. That's the game plan anyway.

I did get the decoder and speaker installation finished and tested yesterday afternoon. Everything works good. The steam chuff default on this decoder is to a synchronizer cam, which has to be mounted on one of the drivers, instead of to the auto-chuff feature, so I've got to change that. I'll do that when I program the address and tailor some of the other CV's.

Der, the cut offs look like some of the massive rock slides they have on I-40 in East Tenneesee. You are probably right about the effect of particle size. I hadn't thought about that. It would make a fascinating experiment. Where can we borrow an Alco and find a volunteer?

RDL, welcome to the coffee shop, and Happy Birthday.

Fergie, I'm sorry to hear that Greg's come down with the flu. Hopefully he will be on the recovery quickly. What kind of trouble are you having with the Shinohara turnouts? What number are they?

Lupo, that's a very good point about basements. You don't find many of them in Florida either.

I'd better go for now. There are still a few things left to do.
Have a great evening everybody,
Tom

Hello, again. Looking for a yard to model. The one in my town would be perfect for just about any layout. It's only about a half a mile long. It is a five double-ended track yard. With a street crossing right in the middle. Hey, I decided to bring some donuts. OOOOOO. A half dozen is all I brought, so you'll have to share. Aren't donuts for breakfast, you say. To some, this is breakfast time. I just started getting to know you all. Maybe I'll bring alot more, later.

Hey, here's a joke for you. It has nothing to do with trains. I've noticed alot in The Coffee Shop isn't about trains. Or is it?

joke: Why couldn't the melons run off to vegas to get married? I'll give everyone until my next reply to find the answer.

Till then, my you all have sweet railroad dreams.

Tom: The turnouts are out, starting to warp and pop out of the tie brackets and the contacts are fried beyond reconstruction. I should have kept away from second hand junk!

So now's the time I think to promo Sober Island lobster. Kris found this on the beach the other day, and it got me thinking.....

Aren't you glad, Bob, that it's not Horibly Oversized ?[:D]
