right after you get through any splash screens (but before the "windows" screen, with the blue "progress bar") hit the F8 key repeatedly.
What'll happen as a DOS-like screen with about 8 choices will pop up, one of them is "Safe Mode with Networking" (assuming that your Operating System is Windows XP with Service Pack 2, if it isn't plain old "Safe Mode" will work). This should allow the computer to start up, and at least get you into windows.
You have two options now:
If you do have another computer that can get online, you can make the "broken" one not auto-restart so you can see the error code. To do this (while in safe mode)
restart the computer, and when the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) shows up, there will be a stop error code, copy the entire thing - there's one hex number right after the "STOP" and then three or four in parenthasis after that. copy all of them. Go to google (or a search engine of your choice), and look up the eooro code (it's the first hex number, not the ones in parenthasis). The other numbers can help in narrowing dows what you actually need to look at.
For example - if you had STOP 0x0000F4 (0x0008C4 0x000001 0x000044), you can ignore the search result that is like "If you get stop error 0x0000F4 followed by 0x000055 0x00000A 0x00007B" you can probably ignore it... as it isn't the same error code.
Hope this helps more than confuses you...

Good afternoon gents, a nice clear day here today, temp is a mild 47F, Robins in the yard, the grass is greener than early April, and not a sign of snow, maybe some on Christmas Day late. Today it was attendance at the local school to see our grandsons in Grade 3 and 5 for their Christmas Pageant...very nicely done as all the songs acknowledged all our neighbors celebrating this season no matter hwat their faith. I have gone to that site because I have the same sound system. They have many models listed, so you MUST select the proper driver or you will get into deep doo doo.
JR: As soon as I get a chance, I will check out the new 0-8-0 and give it a haul test. Of course this loco will be a yard goat, so it won't be hauling cars up grades. Locomotives with no pilot wheels "hunt" like crazy on the rails.

Hi Gang: I'm at our daughters. We got in about 3 hours ago and had no problems on the drive. We got off to a late start yesterday and drove all the way to 20 miles east of Amarillo before we saw any ice. The roads were in great shape so we went on to Tucumcarry and stayed there. We left there after a leasierly breakfast and again the roads were good. We did run into a slow ( and I do mean slow, about 5-10 mph ) streach about 60 miles east of Albuququere. It turned out to be a large wrecker towing a disabled simi with a sherriffs car protecting the rear. After we got past that somth sailing to their house.

Fargo: Just to keep you in the loop you're not the first one to crack a joke that was questionable and probably won't be the last... We like to keep it respectable for the simple reason this is the longest standing thread in the MR forum. Why you may ask? simple! No Politics, Religion, or off colour humour. This promotes an atmoshpere which keeps Bergie at arms length with no chance of shutting us down. The Coffee Shop was created as a result of some of the more anal types not liking us more humourous off the wall types from sneeking in to the odd occassional boring thread and making it, how shall I say... Had fun tonight at the LHS owner/MRR club member's house. Three of us (two club members and another friend of Ron's) ran trains for a Cub Scout group that came over. I'd guess there were a dozen to 20 Cub Scouts, plus another 6-8 parents & leaders. They loved it! Ron had us running engines with sound on them (3 different trains - I had the passenger train), so when we'd go by the road crossings in front of the Cubs, we would sound the horn and the bell. Should've seen the lights come on in their eyes! I think I remember that feeling (though when I first saw some trains run, there weren't all the bells and whistles (literally). Several of the parents and leaders had digital cameras with them, and they got photos of the trains, the layout, of Ron with the kids, and of the Ron and "the engineers" (as one of the parents called us).

Derjohn - what you need is to borrow someones helmet cam or figure out how to shoulder mount the video camera. Ours has a swing out panel so you can set up the shot and see where you are going at the same time. Handy when you're walking near the edge.

I had an early Prodigy, but traded up to a NCE Powerhouse Pro. However, so long as the MRC you are looking at is new, rather than some years old, I’d say go for it. Being in budget helps a lot too.

I find them useful for all sorts of dabbing and smoothing with acrylics. (Watch it, I would imagine, with paints that have petroleum based solvents as carriers, the sponge likely would dissolve – Yikes!)

Now, as for the camera......you only go this way once, you deserve a nice camera, Sony has a great model that uses a Hard Drive, no more tapes to fool around with, and you can download directly to your PC, then burn a DVD that you can show on TV or here in the CS.....that will keep DUKE awake ( he's asleep at the corner table again ). This camera has anti-shake stabilizer built in....so it is just what you need. Santa, please bring one of those for John.
FERGIE: We need a progress report on your big construction project. Ryan and all the rest of the guys were expecting a Power Point slide presentation showing the start of the project and each days progress. This will not look good at your annual performance review so says Cloe, if we don't see results by tomorrow afternoon or evening. Is the chimney down yet? Are the shingles on the roof? Jerry, the wife and I have been on various diets over the years and it seems that at our age now the best thing is to get regular exercise. Seems like the air I breathe now has calories too!
Jim, yea, salads are okay if you hold the dressing and sub for the no fat varieties. The no carb dressings have a lot of calories and fat though. And the snow load is quite perishable, melting can happen once they enter the lower 48 eh! Breakfast casserole yesterday was no help on the diet either!

I saw that too last night on the Weather Channel. It is a common occurrence anytime it rains more than 1" per hour, and the streets start to flood 6" to 18" in no time flat.
Way back on April 1, 1988 I was living in Uptown New Orleans and renting a ½ house in the Garden District. We got a huge downpour in the early evening and it rained about 2" in the first hour, and continued for some time. This area of the city most houses do not have drive ways, you park on the street. I looked out the front window from the upstairs bedroom and the street below was starting to flood, about 6 inches at this point. I put on my shoes, ran down the stairs and put on my rain coat so that I could move the truck to higher ground. By the time I got to the truck it had 6 inches of water in the cab, and only maybe 5 or 10 minutes had passed from the time I first looked out the window and then got into the truck. Since the tail pipe was slightly under water, it took a few attempts to get the engine to turn over. Finally moved the truck to the neutral ground (median) and it was draining. The next day the cab stunk like a wet sock on a sunny day. I had just bought the truck in March of that year; it only had 800 miles on the odometer.

Oh, good! We were waiting till the midnight hour (literally) for the photographer to deliver the Christmas cards with the family photo on Sunday evening, and I mailed them out on Monday morning. That was great mail delivery; you got the card in three days! And thanks again for the model cars. And will do!
Attaboy, sorry to hear about the PC stuck in a loop. You might want to boot into safe mode and then run the diagnostic disk if you have one available. Or try a rollback to a previous date when all was working well. Sounds like the audio or sound card drivers are in conflict with the operating system. Have you tried removing the sound card and then starting up the PC? If the PC does boot successfully without the sound card then you have found the culprit. What is the model of the SB sound card? Oh, I see Dan has covered all the bases on your request.
We are leaving for our trip to New Orleans this afternoon, so I will try to get back into the CS when I can. We will most likely be driving through rain on the way to Atlanta today, and then tomorrow we hope to drive into New Orleans by late afternoon, 4 or 5ish.

Again, thanks for the suggestions on the computer. I rolled it back to a startup point about three days earlier when I knew it was working right. I'll check into the problem in more depth maybe later today. Dick, I know drivers can cause a lot of problems. I alway keep the box and all the paperwork for any components I put in this computer, thay way I know what I have and can get what I need at a time like this.
