It'll be a while yet.  I don't even move into the new house for about 5 more weeks.  Then there's moving in and settling down, then benchwork.  You know the routine.......

I've got a decent plan for the new room though.

I'm in N scale and I'm modeling the late '30's in mid-coast Maine.  It's a fictional line, but it's based loosely on the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR.

Here's the bottom hidden staging level.  It has the class 1 RR trains that interchange with the shortline on the next level.  (I'm still tweaking this level)

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-1R1.jpg

And this is the interchange, and then the shortline's beginning run, with a helix in the corner to get to the top level.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-2R7.jpg

And here's the end of the line, the docks and car float.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/Blank3004-3R4.jpg

It's a 15x10.5 room that will be dedicated to the trains.

And now it will have snow!  And yes,.....pics will be in order.

Good afternoon everyone, I see we have new member to the CS, Cloe, set up the table for Dick and give the tab to Dick....noooo, me...Cloe, I'm Dick, he is NEW Dick, give me the tab.....ohh never mind , here's my credit card, yes, I know it says Dick, that is my name TOO!!

Ok, just call be Grayfox for heavens sake Cloe.

DUKE: Nice pics ...how have youbeen? Haven't seen you in weeks??!! No one in HD saw you either. Did you go north to Bill North's place?

PDRAGON: where are you from? I see you have a nice layout of WRJ in VT. We use WS snow also for my wife's Dept 56 Christmas Village, we really like it, vacuums up good and we can reuse too. That Bostonian accent says you may be from the Boston area inside of RT128 somewhere.

RYAN: Get ready , it looks like the heavy rain will be upon you soon. At least as you said earlier, you no longer live in a fishbowl.

Just heard on the Tv news that a 9 year old boy from south of Boston has died of EEE. He was bitten several days ago and went into a coma. The poor little guy didn't make. There have been three cases so far this season. They sprayed his area for Mosquitos too, but I guess they didn't get them all...what a heartbreaker for the family.

Talk later guys, I hear the supper bell ringing,

Great news here is from a email received from the one Edythe conciders her daughter

" Edythe is doing a lot better and I found out that the type of cancer she
has is treatable, so she's going to be okay.  She is still on the
ventilator, but hopefully that will come off tomorrow."

Now for the sad side of all this Edythe has no real children so the news of her doing bad brought out the worst in some of the greety ones. Heres some more that Trish had to do totay because of them

I had to call the
police a little while ago because the ICU staff told me that someone has
been calling them up asking if Edythe is dead yet, is Edythe in the morgue,
how long will Edythe be in the morgue....etc.  Horrible questions like
that.  Because of that, I now have a code to use when I call up there and I
have to bring paperwork with me every time I go.  Anyway, the good news is
that ICU has caller ID and since I got the police involved, we will find
out who has been making these calls.

Can you believe it. I personally concider my self blessed knowing Edythe. She has helped my wife and I out a few times I don't expect anything but will be very gracious for anything she thinks I should have be it a left handed sugar bowl.

Enough said Chole I'll have the turkey surprise dinner tonight and a large Ice water.

Hurricane coming our way supose to get winds of about 50 MPH with gust to 70+ MPH. May have power outage in the area also.So if I'm not on for a while after today you know why I live in the sticks last time took 3 weeks plus to get electric back on here and thats what gives us water as were all on wells here.

Evening Gang: I am bushed tonight. I hauled three loads of gravel from the well site. That was after the morning chores and going to town for feed and breakfast. The weather has been cooler than it has been but it's still hot in the sun. I got the pad site filled in and I'll have to get it leveled out some more and compacted. I hope that by tomorrow night Sara the Little Locomotive will have a new home.

I've been doing some research on iron mines looking for some examples tro model. There are many different designs of top side set ups. Cleveland Cliffs built two head frames from poored concrete that were patterned after the Egyptians spires. I've seen them and they are impressive. One of the mines will be of that design. Most of the mines are not that huge but very compact and can be easily modeled. Of course these are the under ground mines. The open pit operations are another matter. Since I don't have a gymnasium to build the layout in I don't know if I can figure out how to get one of them done.

Duke: I almost cryed when I saw what had happened to the ore dock in the lower harbor of Marquert (spelling). Fortunatly I have photos of the dock before the lead was taken out.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]PAbelt: Have a glass of your favorite drink and sit a spell.

I'm off to bed. Have a great night All.

Also, Does anyone know of good 1940s buildings for a small town?

I need these:
Gravel pit/Loader (small)
Gravel unloader(I know con cor made this but I don't know if it still exists!)
Cement plant (small)
Drive thru factory type building or background building with platform (medium)
Small Depot
Other buildings/stores

I already have a station.
It's IHC's Rico station. took me 8 hours to build.
But it does look good after some painting.

Mornin all, short stack and bacon, OJ, n coffee Zoe,
Trip north went ok, by the tme we got there most the news media was gone, but the police still wanted Beth out of there for the weekend, so she's here, and we have to take her back Mon. Plan on doing a little rail fanning on the trip.
Thanks for the support all, Beth may need it before this is over

Pdragon,,, that explanes why we didn't see it that engine there. I'm ex AF also, got part of my schooling just north of you there[Chanute AFB], had good time there. I'm in HO also, building a new layout now, hope to get trains running before long. Nice pics also, hows the rail fanning up your way

DUKE, nice photos from the lake thanks.

PC,, track plan looks good, have you started putting bench work materal in storeage yet.

RT,,, glad Edythe is doing betters. Seems just the smell of money can bring out the worst in some people, it's a shame. Good looking train set for the price there. Hope you weather the storm ok, keep to the high ground RT.

PAbelt,, welcome to the CS, hope you enjoy your visits here. Are you still in HO or did you change scales. I use NS flex track here, easier to keep clean for me anyway.

PAUL,, could you put an open pit mine in a corner an just model part of one, just a thought.

JERRY,, they have serval pieces of rolling stock now and have more coming. I think there's 6 or 7 engines now also.

Needs ta get moving on chores, Mothers off today, got a doc appointment in Terre Haute. Haven't decided if I'm going with her or not yet. Got some time in the train room yesterday, hope for some more today. Thoughts for all those in need.

Morning all,

RT, glad to hear the good news about Edythe. Maybe they will get the nurd for the phone calls. Great pictures of the new purchases.

INCH, sorry to hear about the problems with [#3 daughter]. Hope everything gets worked out soon.

DUKE, great photos of the trip. Looks like you had a great time.

DICK, looks like the first early morning snow. Great looking layout. Sure could post more photos if you want. I think all will enjoy them.

RYAN, let us hear from you? What happened in your part of the country with Ernesto? We are worried.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] PABELT, glad to see new faces in the CS.

PC, like the layout plans for the new house. Big is definently better.

Well about time for me to get some work done. Got grass to cut today while it's still cool.

I'll be able to recycle a lot of the lumber from the last layout, so that will definately help.

And to both inch & Neal, thanks for the pat on the back!  I've only been planning the layout since February!  Seems like FOREVER!  I just want to get building!

RT, I'm sorry you have to go through that.  Some people can act so horribly towards others, can't they?  It's really shameful how some folks treat other people.

A tall coffee please Chole!!!! And keep the pot warm too….

…umm, thanks… that is such a good jump start, Chole!!

Spent most of the night awaken by the sound of rustling trees due to Ernesto’s wind gusts and got into work a little late today because of it. The creek behind the house has been rising and is now about 3 feet high and water is rushing by fairly quickly. Under normal conditions it is only about 6 inches deep and a slow trickle.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

What are your plans for the Labor Day weekend holiday?

We are just going to stay home, and I might do some BBQ on the grill to end the summer season right.

Duke, once again, great photos!

Dick, I was thinking it might be Photoshop, thanks for the confirmation. You did a great job with the photo layers of smoke and steam.

Grayfox aka Dick, what the heck is EEE? I have not heard of that illness, yet another one carried by mosquitoes?  The worst part of Ernesto is over for us here in central North Carolina, Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic States and coast is getting it next.

RT, sorry about that situation with the caller. Ernesto has lost a lot of strength since land fall around 11:30 last night, but there is still potential for a lot of rain. Wind gusts too up to 50-60 mph in some areas.

Welcome to the Coffee Shop PA! Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Sounds like you have done a lot of modeling in your time, and only 14 too! Sit a spell and have a breakfast on me today since PC has the dinner taken care of!

Paul, sounds like you had a full day with the gravel hauling. That iron ore mining sounds like interesting modeling.

NESU, thanks for your concern with Ernesto, we faired well this time. Most of the damage in NC was minor and along the coastal cities, some flooding and a few trees down. I also heard that about 10,000 customers of Progress Energy are without power in eastern NC. It has been more nerve wracking for us since we still have the jitters from riding out Katrina last year.

PC, I know what you mean about track planning seeming to take forever. But a lot of effort and planning in the early stages usually results in smooth operations later on.

Thoughts, prayers, and well wished to all in need!

Peace, love, and happiness forever, and ever, Amen!

Cheers,

Good Morning,

Another quick visit before doing my chores.

Gloria is slowly progressing, still a lot of pain and she is in good spirit.

Gloetown will be progressing too.  The next step is a bit of trouble shooting the track then wiring, the ballast ect...  I need a few more industries and built up a small quarry plus scenery.  This is a never ending project and one of the reasons I started it.  I should also mention that Gloria is very supportive and at times, has motivated me to get somethings done.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] PA, good to have you on-board.

Well must go, hope you all have a great day and if you're traveling this long weekend, be safe.

Good afternoon guys, we still have the sun out, but through high cirrus clouds from Ernesto. We are due to get the rains on Saturday evening and Sunday, as Ernesto goes well west of us into NY state.

RT: I can't imagine people calling the hospital and saying those things, there are some sick people out there RT!!! I hope you and the wife are doing OK through all this.

LUC: Sure good to see that Gloria is better. And, I see you have made some progress on the layout too!!! Do you have wire for the next step?

RYAN: Glad to hear that Ernesto has passed by without much damage, after what your family has been through last year, you don't need any more of that from Mother Nature!!
As for EEE, yes, it is a mosquito carried disease, EEE stands for Eastern Equine Encephilitis. It causes the brain to swell, this in turn cuts off O2 to the brain and you go into a coma. It has a high mortality rate, although a young man made a miraculous recovery several weeks ago here. All the cases have been in the SE part of the state where there are a lot of marshes and swamp areas, as well as milder winters that do not kill off the mosquito larvae.

Well, time to get back outside before Ernesto's rains arrive. Talk you you all later,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Hello Crew,

Tstage suggested that I "drop in".

I've been on this forum since 2003 and have found it very enjoyable and packed with an enormous weath of knowledge and information.

However, I've inadvertantly discovered that bringing up older topics, no matter how interesting they would be to newbies, is frowned upon by a number of forum members.Disapprove [V]  In the past 6 months or so, I've received a couple of "heated"Angry [:(!] responses by a few forum members that don't want to ever see a topic that's over a year old.

Good grief!  I thought good info is good info...regardless of age.

Yet, in the past year some of the threads that I've brought to the front page that were only 2 to 3 pages long garnered some very good "positive " questions and responses from newbies or brand new forum members. The exception is the 7 page "Easy Sharpening Up" Thread that deals with passenger car interiors only because other members continue to supply some very good updated info.

Anyway, I'm through ranting.  I'm not trying to get sympathy or stir up trouble but as I've stated on another thread if this becomes such a hot issue, I'll take a long forum break or exit the forum and just visit as a non-member.  I don't hang around long where I'm not welcome.

Afternoon all

PD I take it you looked at my Photobucket account. No that is not me on the loco but a friend that I had in Del while I was stationed at Dover. His name is Jack Evans(Grandfather Steam) and he passed away last Nov, but if you look in the Apex section I am on a Pacific that is headed towards you.

Dick I have been sitting over here in the corner booth just watching and listening. No,I didn’t make it to Bill’s place on this trip but we weren’t too far from it. Speaking of him,I have heard from him and he is doing well and I am trying to work out a time when we can get together. AAAHHHH yes,HD. You know, much as I like your donuts (and I do), you ought to stop in and hang out to talk a bit too.  Tell us a bit about youself and what's going on, ya know?  I know you gave us the backgropund thing when you first started posting, but other then donuts and coffee, we don't hear from you much.

So, what's the scoop man?  Or as my son would say, SUP!

Good evening all.

I did it, I have the track all laid and except for a couple of spots that will need some attention, it is working great with minimal wiring. This is a DC layout so I now need to decide where to place blocks then begin the full wiring including some of the buildings with lights.

Once that is done, I’ll get started on the ballast.

Ok, here is an aerial view of what has been done so far.

The North East corner, I think the quarry will go in there.

The north Center of Gloetown

The NW corner where the sugar refinery is located

The SW corner where you’ll find Gloetown Junction to NearCity

The yard in the South center

The SE corner yet to be developed, maybe a small depot with a minor industry

The entrance to the yard

So still a lot of work to do but lots of fun doing it.

back Fergie. Hope you’ll share some of those pics.

Antonio good to have you drop in. You can share everything here you are among friends and we do learn from each other, so you can bring up anything from anywhere and I am sure someone will learn from it.

Now a question, I think I read somewhere that a typical 1950is street width in HO is about 2", now I believe that in that period parking was angled and not parallel, if I want to allow for parking on both sides do you think 4" wide would look OK?

I’m open for suggestion.

Well time to go and look after CFO.

I just received my order for #148 kadee couplers, the extra springs are just loose in the package not in a capusle as noted in instructions. I am looking forward to installing them to just see if they are as good as everyone claims ( I am sure that statement will result in many replys ).

Last week my chemo doctor postponed my chemo due to some blood counts so we decided to go see the kids in Augusta, Ga as they were expecting. We called to tell them to be informed that they were inducing labor on Monday. So we ended up with the surprise Tuseday morning at 12:20 AM.

Mother and granddaughter both doing fine. I was the first to hold her, something I didn't think I would get to do. I thank the Lord for the chance. Had chemo was today, so far so good. See you guys later. Phil

Evening Gang:

Phill MOW: Congratulations there grandpa. Good to hear that the chemo went well also. So how about some more info on the dear one?Wow!! [wow] And Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the little one.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Antonio: I've seen your stuff n the forums. I've never had a problem with bringing up old posts. There is usually new info and who knows someone might learn something. I'm glade to see you here. We are a very laid back bunch as I'm sure you have noticed. There is always a willing ear and a cup of coffee waiting. Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

No house for Sara the Little Locomotive today. Maybe tomorrow around 4pm.Sad [:(]

A corner on the edge of the layout has crossed my mind. I figure I could steel enough room from the isle for a shovel and a truck being loaded then a haul road up to a dump for a conveyer to the loader. I'd have to protect it some how maybe with plex.
