I've got a decent plan for the new room though.
I'm in N scale and I'm modeling the late '30's in mid-coast Maine. It's a fictional line, but it's based loosely on the Belfast & Moosehead Lake RR.
Here's the bottom hidden staging level. It has the class 1 RR trains that interchange with the shortline on the next level. (I'm still tweaking this level)

Great news here is from a email received from the one Edythe conciders her daughter
" Edythe is doing a lot better and I found out that the type of cancer she has is treatable, so she's going to be okay. She is still on the ventilator, but hopefully that will come off tomorrow."
Now for the sad side of all this Edythe has no real children so the news of her doing bad brought out the worst in some of the greety ones. Heres some more that Trish had to do totay because of them
I had to call the police a little while ago because the ICU staff told me that someone has been calling them up asking if Edythe is dead yet, is Edythe in the morgue, how long will Edythe be in the morgue....etc. Horrible questions like that. Because of that, I now have a code to use when I call up there and I have to bring paperwork with me every time I go. Anyway, the good news is that ICU has caller ID and since I got the police involved, we will find out who has been making these calls.
Can you believe it. I personally concider my self blessed knowing Edythe. She has helped my wife and I out a few times I don't expect anything but will be very gracious for anything she thinks I should have be it a left handed sugar bowl.
Enough said Chole I'll have the turkey surprise dinner tonight and a large Ice water.
Hurricane coming our way supose to get winds of about 50 MPH with gust to 70+ MPH. May have power outage in the area also.So if I'm not on for a while after today you know why I live in the sticks last time took 3 weeks plus to get electric back on here and thats what gives us water as were all on wells here.

Evening Gang: I am bushed tonight. I hauled three loads of gravel from the well site. That was after the morning chores and going to town for feed and breakfast. The weather has been cooler than it has been but it's still hot in the sun. I got the pad site filled in and I'll have to get it leveled out some more and compacted. I hope that by tomorrow night Sara the Little Locomotive will have a new home.
I've been doing some research on iron mines looking for some examples tro model. There are many different designs of top side set ups. Cleveland Cliffs built two head frames from poored concrete that were patterned after the Egyptians spires. I've seen them and they are impressive. One of the mines will be of that design. Most of the mines are not that huge but very compact and can be easily modeled. Of course these are the under ground mines. The open pit operations are another matter. Since I don't have a gymnasium to build the layout in I don't know if I can figure out how to get one of them done.
Duke: I almost cryed when I saw what had happened to the ore dock in the lower harbor of Marquert (spelling). Fortunatly I have photos of the dock before the lead was taken out.

Spent most of the night awaken by the sound of rustling trees due to Ernesto’s wind gusts and got into work a little late today because of it. The creek behind the house has been rising and is now about 3 feet high and water is rushing by fairly quickly. Under normal conditions it is only about 6 inches deep and a slow trickle.

We are just going to stay home, and I might do some BBQ on the grill to end the summer season right.

Grayfox aka Dick, what the heck is EEE? I have not heard of that illness, yet another one carried by mosquitoes? The worst part of Ernesto is over for us here in central North Carolina, Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic States and coast is getting it next.
RT, sorry about that situation with the caller. Ernesto has lost a lot of strength since land fall around 11:30 last night, but there is still potential for a lot of rain. Wind gusts too up to 50-60 mph in some areas.

Paul, sounds like you had a full day with the gravel hauling. That iron ore mining sounds like interesting modeling.
NESU, thanks for your concern with Ernesto, we faired well this time. Most of the damage in NC was minor and along the coastal cities, some flooding and a few trees down. I also heard that about 10,000 customers of Progress Energy are without power in eastern NC. It has been more nerve wracking for us since we still have the jitters from riding out Katrina last year.
PC, I know what you mean about track planning seeming to take forever. But a lot of effort and planning in the early stages usually results in smooth operations later on.

Another quick visit before doing my chores.
Gloria is slowly progressing, still a lot of pain and she is in good spirit.
Gloetown will be progressing too. The next step is a bit of trouble shooting the track then wiring, the ballast ect... I need a few more industries and built up a small quarry plus scenery. This is a never ending project and one of the reasons I started it. I should also mention that Gloria is very supportive and at times, has motivated me to get somethings done.

Tstage suggested that I "drop in".
I've been on this forum since 2003 and have found it very enjoyable and packed with an enormous weath of knowledge and information.
However, I've inadvertantly discovered that bringing up older topics, no matter how interesting they would be to newbies, is frowned upon by a number of forum members. In the past 6 months or so, I've received a couple of "heated" responses by a few forum members that don't want to ever see a topic that's over a year old.
Good grief! I thought good info is good info...regardless of age.
Yet, in the past year some of the threads that I've brought to the front page that were only 2 to 3 pages long garnered some very good "positive " questions and responses from newbies or brand new forum members. The exception is the 7 page "Easy Sharpening Up" Thread that deals with passenger car interiors only because other members continue to supply some very good updated info.
Anyway, I'm through ranting. I'm not trying to get sympathy or stir up trouble but as I've stated on another thread if this becomes such a hot issue, I'll take a long forum break or exit the forum and just visit as a non-member. I don't hang around long where I'm not welcome.

I did it, I have the track all laid and except for a couple of spots that will need some attention, it is working great with minimal wiring. This is a DC layout so I now need to decide where to place blocks then begin the full wiring including some of the buildings with lights.
Once that is done, I’ll get started on the ballast.
Ok, here is an aerial view of what has been done so far.
The North East corner, I think the quarry will go in there.
The north Center of Gloetown
The NW corner where the sugar refinery is located
The SW corner where you’ll find Gloetown Junction to NearCity
The yard in the South center
The SE corner yet to be developed, maybe a small depot with a minor industry

Now a question, I think I read somewhere that a typical 1950is street width in HO is about 2", now I believe that in that period parking was angled and not parallel, if I want to allow for parking on both sides do you think 4" wide would look OK?

I just received my order for #148 kadee couplers, the extra springs are just loose in the package not in a capusle as noted in instructions. I am looking forward to installing them to just see if they are as good as everyone claims ( I am sure that statement will result in many replys ).
Last week my chemo doctor postponed my chemo due to some blood counts so we decided to go see the kids in Augusta, Ga as they were expecting. We called to tell them to be informed that they were inducing labor on Monday. So we ended up with the surprise Tuseday morning at 12:20 AM.
Mother and granddaughter both doing fine. I was the first to hold her, something I didn't think I would get to do. I thank the Lord for the chance. Had chemo was today, so far so good. See you guys later. Phil

A corner on the edge of the layout has crossed my mind. I figure I could steel enough room from the isle for a shovel and a truck being loaded then a haul road up to a dump for a conveyer to the loader. I'd have to protect it some how maybe with plex.
