Got the pre-construction meeting for my house this morning! They start putting up walls next week! Can't wait!

Good morning model railroaders…
Well everyone is sick at home but me! Monique went to the doctor on Monday and has a severe sinus infection and has been coughing for three days now, bronchitis and such in the respiratory system. Then she went to a dentist appointment and they found some kind of unusual growth below the gums between two her back teeth that showed up on the x-ray. Now she is supposed to go see an oral surgeon for a second opinion and possible biopsy to determine what the heck is under there. Then Ben has a stomach virus and cannot keep anything down. If I’m lucky I won’t get sick between the two of them being sick. I am playing doctor of the house right now trying to keep them both well! Please pray for both of them!
And through all of that I did manage to get in just an hour of cork roadbed laying on the layout last night.

Dick, there is nothing like a summer rain shower to cool you off in the middle of the day! And guess what I had on my cereal for breakfast this morning? Yep, blueberries, yum! I also hear that blueberries have a natural cancer fighting element to them. Referencing this quote from a nutritional source on the Internet: “Recently, researchers at Tufts University analyzed 60 fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant capability. Blueberries came out on top, rating highest in their capacity to destroy free radicals.”

Rob, glad to hear that you got a break from the heat with the rain showers! Now those smoothies sure do sound good too. I have been making banana and strawberry banana smoothies almost every night this week. They are great and refreshing, and cool you down too! I will have to try the other berries for smoothies, and maybe I will try a blueberry smoothie tonight!
Inch, fresh picked corn eh! Gotta love that stuff! I will have to make a batch of my crab and corn chowder for the CS sometime, virtually of course! LOL, I do cook up a batch of mean crab and corn chowder, and the fresher the corn the better.

Yeah, the pizza train is a great idea. The reserant makes out, the museum makes out, and the passengers get a great and unusual night out without breaking the bank. Unfortunately, the only thing they deliver is people,....to the resterant.
The dinner train is good as well. I haven't done the haunted train at Halloween or the Christmas train.
BTW, sorry to hear that everyone isn't well.

Good Evening All: Not much to report tonight. It's about 6pm and we're getting ready to head out to bring in the cattle. I spent the day working on mowing the weeds on the well site and then filling a couple of sink holes that I found. I also scrapped up some more gravel for our roads. I gotta get something out of the drilling companies for cleaning up after them.
The mystery of the mess in the basement has been solved. It was the dogs a corner of the living room. We picked up some stuff ot handle the smell and spotting. The stuff we got was at Tractor Supply and really works.
I'd better get going. Mary Ann is waiting.

DER, we have a mineral well to, luv the taste of the water, but hate changing filter and cleaning screens.
Actually, gents, our well water is quite soft, and apart from a very faint hint of iron, pretty much mineral free. Now that we have the 5 micron filter and the UV unit, it’s even better tasting. I think the corrosion thing on that joint was strictly pressure rather than particulate. Changing filters isn’t my #1 fav. either.
Ryan: That tooth thing of Monique’s sounds unpleasant. Here’s praying that it is all taken care of ASAP. Hope Ben heals up fast too.

Not great day, I just keep telling my self the 2 big ones are leaving Saturday. I'll take the 4 little ones any day, their easier than the biggens.
RYAN, we'll be sayin prayers for the sickly ones and a speical one fur you. Most of the corn will be cut off the cob n froze, Mother thinks we still have enough on the ear. But Saturday evening, there'll be be dozen or more ears in the smoker, don't know what else we'll be havin yet. Do know there'll also be barely pops and a few round of dominos during the evening.
GRAYFOX, the last I knew IL. had the 5'th highest gas tax and some of the worst roads, at least down state. A few years ago I seen the road tax break down and Chicago area got 68%. We need a new bridge just down over the hill from us and still can't find the funding. Saddest part is we have the highest property and sales tax in the our area, and are still broke.

Evening All: I tried to talk Mary Ann into getting a dog to help with the cattle a couple of years ago. She didn't want to have another dog around. I guess she has me and that's enough trouble. At least I don't mess on the rug.
I think that I over did it working in the sun today. I had a cup of water with me and quit when I felt tired but it took most of the late afternoon to feel alright again. I'll have to watch it. It was 101f today. I'm getting tired of talking about the temp.
MR & Trains came today. I'll need them tomorrow waiting for the plane.
Well I guess I'll head for bed. The shower sure helped get me feeling better.

Wife and kids are headed to the MDA doctors today. Yearly exams for the kids and readjusting meds for the wife. She's been having a lot of trouble lately. Hopefully they can get that straight. Me, I'm just working.

Good morning (late) to all. Need a cup of coffee real bad. Can't seem to get started after my trip to Newport News the past two days.
I was able to see and hear a lot more about the CVN21 next generation aircraft carrier. Basically the same platform as the Nimitz class of today, but built for today's threats and with much newer technology, with a planned 50yr life (as are our existing carriers), using more innovative and cost-effective modern technolgy to fabricate and construct.
If the CVN21 gets funded, the first hull will replace the USS Enterprise. Kind of sad to hear that, for me, as I vividly remember first seeing this ship in the mid 60's in California with my Dad, from his "tiny" AR-9 USS Delta repair ship.
Also saw the USS George H Bush under construction. Wow! All I can say to summarize that. If you've never seen a large ship under construction, it totally floors you when you get a first look...and if you've seen it before, you still marvel at what we can do with men and steel. Amazing. Nobody else can do it like we do...nobody.
Glad to be back. Tired, but gotta drag myself in to do something productive today.

Hi Gang: It’s going to be hot again today. We’ll be heading for the air port to pick up the kids in a couple of hours. I might not be in tomorrow but will be back Sunday. The kids leave for Albuquerque Sunday morning and the computer room will be ours again.
Dick: The dog question may be moot. I turned the cows into a field this morning and they just looked and turned around and came back out. There isn’t any grass left. We have a choice to sell them off, feed them at very high prices, or turn them into the hay fields across the railroad. The badlands are almost here. Of course all the city folks who moved out here have nice green lawns. The wells maybe going dry but they are going to have there green lawns. Maybe $10 a pound beef will wake them up. No, probably not. I couldn't find a single gif that would a really express the way I feel about that so I made up a train of them. Hey. That makes this post OK for the forums.
I’d better get off and give Mary Ann a hand cleaning. By the way the official temperature yesterday made it to 102. Not that it matters.

Good day all! Took Ben to the doctor this morning, he is on two new medications and should be back to school on Monday. He is finally holding down food and starting to feel better.
Thanks for all who sent thoughts and prayers! They really do work!
Monique is getting better, but still has a fight with this sinus infection, and at least she was not up in the middle of the night with a coughing attack last night!
Got the September 2006 MR issue in the mail yesterday, there is a Layout Planning Contest, and the first prize is $1,000.00. Looks like it could be fun!

Dick, yep grandma was right! And the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” has a lot of truth to it as well. Most likely it was another way of saying to eat your fresh fruit and fresh vegetables too! I made a blueberry smoothie last night with about a cup of the berries, 2 tbsp honey, and a large glass of crushed ice and about a cup of filtered water. Blended until smooth and drank it up quick! Yum!
Also, thanks for the gasoline $$$ breakdown! Seems like the government could give us all some gasoline tax breaks and reduce or eliminate that for awhile.
Hey Inch, smoked corn sounds interesting. Never had that one before and I love to smoke all kinds of food stuffs, but never thought about corn. Now I have rolled up corn in the husk and put it directly on coals and that is spectacular flavor!

IndySon, I know what you mean about the size of those ships as they go up! When we lived in New Orleans, the Northrop Grumman ship yards (formally Avondale Ship yards) were close by and they had many contracts with the Navy. I remember driving buy many times and as they are being built they just keep getting higher and higher, just amazing! I also had the pleasure of working on a research vessel during the summer of 1987 and we were working out of Groton, CT for a few weeks, docked next to the Trident subs that were being built. Same thing, these were massive multiple storied vessels. Just amazing! An underwater mobile city when completed!

The little show in La Crosse went good last weekend, picked up 2 athearn RTR pulpwood cars with loads brand new in the box for $5.00 each, almost fell over these are $16.00 dollar cars, just hope their not as hot as the weather?
