Let me get your opinion on something. Remember a while back I talked about a forum member in the trains.magazine forum? Well it appears he was booted from the forums. And IMHO, rightfully so. He boasted of being the "Trains Magazine Resident Hobo. He also boasted of riding on trains not as a crew member but as a Hobo. One of his threads was deleted because he used very inappropriate language. Another one of his threads was deleted because he claimed to have just ridden a CSX train into the upper midwest. Well I truely believe he is gone from the forums under his old nic. However, now we have a new person using the nic . . . Kissmycaboose7 who claims to be the Hobo's mother. I thank this is an affront to the forums members. The more I see that nic and think about it . . . well you know. Am I being too "old fashioned" or is he thumming his nose at us, or worse?

That’s what travel is for, Mitch. The bad thing is that so little operational steam remains (in comparison to the huge amount that once existed). The good thing is that most of what’s left isn’t going away anytime soon.

I’d just ignore the issue and the poster. That’s the low stress, low blood pressure, easy response. Even if you’re right, you’re not the forum administrator and it’s not your job to police the forum. If he was already booted once, I’m sure the powers are also aware of this new presence. Ignore his threads and do not respond to his posts. That’s the most effective way to deal with troll behavior. Thanks for the advice. Bergie (Erik) does want our help and input concerning things of this nature. He has said before that he cannot read every thread and monitor every post. He does rely on us to help point out things that should be addressed. I am just trying to determine IF I am over reacting on this or not. I do look forward to other opinions though to balance me out or tip the scale in one direction or another.

I have not heard from Teffy this morning yet. He said he would call me from Texarkana, which is on the state line. Part of the city is in Texas and the other part in Arkansas. Depending on traffic and weather he could be here anywhere from 1 to 5 or 6 pm. I have the cell phone ready. Guess I should jump in the shower and get ready myself. (Traffic should be very heavy today, and there is a ton of road construction in the area. Weather is cloudy with high humidity, not really raining, just a few sprinkles here and there. The temp is in the lower 70s but with the humidity it is pretty unconfortable. )

Ed, come on down. Or Up as the case may be. [;)] A roast just sounded good and I like the crock pot for doing it. My parents cooked them in a pressure cooker, but I doubt many of us use them much anymore. I really miss the canning of "things" from the garden and making home made jelly. It's shake n bake Dadddddddy, and awwwww helppppppppppppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeedddddddddd. Wasn't that original commercial a hoot. I will never forget that little girl's drawl. Some of the forum members laugh at my drawl when we speak on the phone but it is nothing compared to hers. [:D] (Of course those that laugh are all Yankees anyway [;)] ) When we "canned" I was very little but helped as I could by carrying things and moving them around and outta the way.

Has anyone ever made . . . Prickly Pear Cacktus Jelly ? One of my friends who is originally from the southwest used to make it. I have never had it but it sound like something to at least try once. But FORGET the rattlesnake meat, you can have my portion of that.

Well this is it troops, JEANNE is coming in and is tracking to make landfall in FT Pierce, about 40-45 miles to north of us. NHC is saying we should get winds of around 65-75 mph, about the same as what we got with Frannie but the storm will move through a lot quicker, so exposure will be a whole lot shorter. We'll probably loose power but I'm hoping that it's restored by the next day, like with Frances. Anyway we're all battened down and ready. Glad Dave made it through ok, see you guys on the flip side, I hope.

Jim, My opionion? Your not over reacting at all. I sure hope Erik gets this mess sorted out. he can block out and ISP number, can he? That would be something he might want to try in this case. If you haven't yet, I'd drop Bergie an email to make sure he knows about it.

Well, I made first human contact with another model railroader in my Town this morning. Went to the Local library, and when I went over by the magazines, another person was reading the MR! He's an older man in his 60's or 70's, and he has a HO layout too. He always goes to our church, and I see him every weekday mass that I serve as altar boy at. Little did I know he was a Model railroader, but now I do. So I am not alone in town here as a model railroader. It's nice to know.

Work on the layout progresses. I'm hopeing to get the board installed or at least painted for my new control panell today. I also have measuements for my new buildings, and I might use one stock kit I saw at the new hobby shop, and scratchbuild the other. I've got to check the dementions of that building first though, to see if it's big enough to fill the space. It'll be a few weeks before we go down to the LHS again, so I can't wait till we do.

Pressure cookers are very common in much of Mexico (not necessarily where we are) because of the high altitude in the center of the country where the big cities are. Almost a must when you're living at more than a mile high.

Haven't made it but have tried it. It's okay. It uses the 'pear' shaped fruit of the cactus. Down here, those are a popular fruit. Tons of tiny seeds that you just have to agree to swallow. Not a real strong flavor. Watch the stickers!! [dinner]

Now jalapeño jelly, there's something to try. Sweet but with a bite. Fairly common in TX and NM I believe.

Hi gang-I have a modeling pal that lost both legs below the knees due to diabetes. He lives in alow lying area in a mobil home. He refuses to go to a shelter. I've tried to talk him into going but I think he is tired of living. He has a multitude of problems and is tired of fighting . I don't profess to have any answers for him but I like him and would like him to stay around awhile longer. Wish I could do something but feel helpless. What a heck of a way to start a new year. 5765 in the Jewish calendar. Prayer helps to an extent. Best of luck to all others in the storms way. May God protect you.

When did you put this in the slow cooker? How small did you cut up the veggies? We usually get ours at around 7 hrs on low heat, but I suspect it's done before.

Tough situation. I'm like you in that I don't have any answers either. I suppose, (assuming the best and that he makes it through the storm with no major problems) keeping in touch by phone or the occasional visit would always be welcomed. It's hard to imagine yourself in a situation like that. I suppose that people can get 'tired' of fighting it.


Slight progress on the control panel this afternoon. At least enough to claim that I didn't totally blow it off. Think it's time to tackle the multi-pin connector. [:O]

Got to go visit my grandma, then played some tennis with my dad, and by that time it was time for supper, then I went to check on here, and now it's getting dark. So much for that job. Oh well. I'll just have to paint it in the morning before church, and then install it in the afternoon.

Note that those were not my models, Dave Lotz has giving me a BRHS brochure and a BRHS calender, but I believe asking for those units he custom-painted would be a little too much to ask![:D][;)] I've never seen the Sesquicentennial (Dave's name for them) units in person but he has told me a little about them, I just showed them to give you guys an idea of what I'm thinking of modeling. I prefer the Redbird (on the GE model) scheme myself, I think I'll use that for all of my locomotives, as for deciding which locomotive to buy and paint first, it will probably either be Kato's SD70MAC or Life-Like's P2K GP38-2. (I'm not suggesting a coffee refill as such, just drain out the old stuff --- I know that some of us want to see how far the coffee will stretch, but this might not effect the # count for the curious).
2) is this a good idea? any supporters??? (I'm not intending to ruffle feathers, it's not a soapbox for me, just a thought)

Looking at the peacefull weather outside, I feel sorry for all of you in the south east part of the US still dealing with those hurricanes and storms , specially for the elderly and disabled, like Phil's friend. The weather aint fair to you lately.

this slow loading topic also could be caused by browser settings on your computer, wich operating system do you use? or what kind of connection do you have?
maybe changing some settings could help.

Good Morning All

A glorious day so far. Went for a 18 Km bike ride and the fall colours are just starting. So hopefully Bob and Stef will arrive when it peaks.

Krump: The logo is on hold right now for the simple reason Freewebs told me I exceeded my monthly bandwidth quota for the month.

Anyway I now have a Rail Images account and all that is left is adding photos and this will take a couple of days.

Anyway have to run as we are off on our fall pilgrimage to the Annapolis Valley.

Krump, I only find it slow when there are more than about 4 pictures on the page, then it takes a while. Other wise I don't notice anything.

Got the control pannel painted, now just got to install it. Thankfully the Packer games not till 3:00, so I should be able to get the board in with my dad's help by then, and while he goes and watches the game I can get it wired. Touche Ed!!

Krump, It shouldn't matter how many pages long the topic is, you are only loading the one page that you are looking at. What type of connection do you have? I have cable, and have noticed slower loading with Fergie's logo. He needs to work on the file size there.

There is no way for Bergie to do that, so we would have to start over from scratch.

The veggies were cut up into medium size pieces but took forever to cook. They and the roast were put on about 8:30 Saturday morning and sometime this morning were finally done. The roast turned out well. I took it out last night. I was very disappointed in the veggies thought. The onion had no flavor at all, I guess maybe it was too big. The potatoes were ok. [:p]

I updated the thread about meeting Teffy. You can go there to check on it and him. Don't forget to leave a reply. [;)]

I've heard of 'slow cookers', but that's a turtle. We usually cut our veggies into chunks about 1" square. Never takes longer than 7-8 hrs. Did you plug it in? [:D]


How are you planning on keeping in touch with Bob? Is he carrying a cellphone or is he going to check in with you so you can post progress?
