Hi Gang: Well I did some railroading yesterday. John and I fired up the steam locomotive and made a couple of runs before we cleaned her up from the reception. The locomotive ran very well, but I could tell that the propane didn't have the heat value that the coal does. It is much cleaner. We loaded it up and hauled it home. Getting it off the trailer was a real fun deal. I've got to get the turntable and loading ramp built. At least with her home I can fire up once in a while and have a run. I guess I'd better get the tie replacement program in hi-gear. The steamer is heaver on the rail than the diesel. It wouldn't do for her to derail. There is nothing like trying to horse a 600lb. locomotive back onto the track.

***: It sounds like you had a real good trip. I see the price of gas didn't hold you back at the hobby shops any.

Ed: So you are off again. Should we warn the hobby shops up north that you are coming so they can lay in a supply of iNvisable stuff?

With the daughter and granddaughters here I can't get to the computer as often as usual. They have the bedroom with it. I'll catch up at work like today. Speaking of work I'd better go and do some. Maybe the boss would be so supprised he'd have a heart attack and I'd be a hero for sure.

Good Evening All,
Haven't caught up the posts yet but I did want to drop by and say hi. Trip went well to Mosport, our drivers won the enduro, two of three group sprint races and second in the other. Cars ran well. Train trip back went well except for the 2 hours we spent clearing US Customs and Immigration which is not suprising these days. Lots of cool stuff, but no pics as we were mostly traveling at warp 9 trying to gain back time. It is definitely cool when two trains pass in opposite directions at high speed and you know you could reach out and touch the other train. What a feeling of incredible speed. The freight traffic was all CSX in the states with lots of double stack containers, air slides and lumber cars. Freights still look odd to me without cabeese and I still loath the look of the power units on the passenger trains. There is still a concrete coaling tower standing by Syracuse - if they put tracks back under it perhaps they can fill Scotts Chinese locomotives. Don't fancy importing steam power though. I think the best steam came from the US and of course the MLW in Quebec. All for now - I'll try to get in early tomorrow and sort out the rest of the posts I missed besides I heard the 44 tonners are finally in at the museum yard. CUL, J.R.

Just a quick drive by tonight. A JR (nice to see you back,JR) regular to go, please.

Good Morning All,
Still not caught up, and coping with the monsoon rains. At least the new shop roof seems ok so far. I'll just have a regular to go please Zoe - take it easy on James - he'll be down to vegemite sandwiches son at the rate this lot packs it away.
Flip - belated Happy Birthday and many more.

Saw the new Electric Boat 44 tonners last night, one ex New Haven, the other ex UP. Turns out the ex-UP is the GE demonstrator and supposedly the only 44 tonner UP had. Locs' are 1944 and 1947 vintage and in pretty good shape. Will try to get the photo site sorted out this week as I have a huge backlog of stuff. CUL, J.R.

Another cup Zoe, while i post the joke of the day

How to Stay Married

A man and woman had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or ask her about..

For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside.

She agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box.

When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000.

He asked her about the contents. "When we were to be married," she said, "My Grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never argue. She told me that if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep quiet and crochet a doll."

The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears. Only two precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with happiness. "Honey," he said, "that explains the doll, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?"

"Oh," she said, "that's the money I made from selling the dolls."

Wish my wife could crochet, we'd be rich

Pick up my step son from the airport yesterday after work, and he is visiting us for 10 days. He is 16 and having a great summer so far. We are going to see the tall ships in Beaufort this weekend at the Sail America event on the coast, then for the 4th holiday we are going to Asheville near the Smoky Mountains for a couple days.

Well all -
Afternoon. Hope everyone is doing fine, despite all the rain and flooding in the Northeast. Not much on the MRR front to report on, but I do have some info for those who may be traveling via motor vehicle in the surrounding areas of Central NY.

As of 11:38 this morning, the NYS Thruway is closed due to flooding to both East and West-bound traffic between exits 28 and 31 (Fonda/Fultonville and Utica, respectively). All westbound traffic must exit at 25a, except for LOCAL traffic. All eastbound traffic must exit at exit 36 (I-81 in Syracuse), except for LOCAL traffic. Also, I-88 In the area of Bainbridge is closed due to a earlier washout.
There are also several 'States of Emergency' active in NYS, as well as the Governor has activated the Army National Guard for help in recovery efforts.
The State has also activated it's Emergency Management Office (EMO) as well as several counties. Mine, is sending out pages every 30-60 minutes requesting for volunteers w/ 4x4 vehicles and the various FD's and Ambulance Co's, to call in w/ availability of rigs for deployment to the hardest hit regions to assist them w/ recovery efforts for at least the next 24 hours.

On my MRR front, not that it's got much to do with it, but I signed up for broadband internet w/ my local cable co last night. Reason being, dial-up takes too long to download anything, including the Microsoft Windows and Office updates. One I need to get, takes over 5 hours via dialup, but only about 10 minutes w/ broadband.

*** / Ed -
How about those Red Sox? 10 wins in a row! Pedro got a nice welcome last night and will pitch for the Mets against Beckett tonight. Schilling goes tomorrow night for the Sox, against, someone from the Mets.

PC -
On the 24th, you posted a few pics of a CSX consist. The 2nd Loco, # 610, is a 'regular' here at the DeWitt NY Yard. Glad to see that you get to see some of the same ones as I do.

Ok all... this is it for now. Need to get some work done.
Take care!
