[#welcome] ez175th glad to have you in here. I'm the odd one in here in that I collect/model O gauge 3 rail. I'm in VA. about 60 miles north of Norfolk on the middle peninsula.

[#oops] I did it again. Well all I guess I'm buying today. Set'um up for all. [#welcome]PAT Good to see a new face in here. Need to warn you, you want to stay away from the top of the page. If you get there two things will happen. [1] You will have to buy for every one that comes into the CS that day. [2] and probibly the most important is that PC gets violently mad. When he comes in and shouts everyone stand up and listens. HEAHEAHEA!!! but SERIOUSLY tell us about your self. We were all newbies in here at one time. I visited for the first time about a month or so ago.
PC You did good with the pictures.
MIKEyou did good with the pictures. It kinda looks like you and PC were following the same train. Or maybe you was following PC.
well got to run

Good Morning All

Well I signed up for a new Railimages account over at Trainboard so I am now on the process of changing my photos over. The new sight seems to be very good and I'll be able to set up several albums. So this could be a good change in deed!

On today's schedule I'll bee cleaning the garage and attempting two Tsunami installs. Could prove to be my most challenging to date.

Welcome Pat!

Just coffee this morning Janie, thanks.

I see we have a new face in here. Welcome Pat!

Thanks! Hey, I just realized, those are the first pics of modern stuff I think I've ever posted. Up until now I think the newest piece of equipment I've posted was a GP9. Not too bad for the first modern stuff, huh?

QUOTE: Was that train E. bound, it looks like one that came through here yesterday morning.

Yes it was, and it may have been. Did you notice the nose door open on the second unit? Don't know if they left it open or it blew open,.....they were movin' along at 60MPH ya know!

BTW, Great shots you got there! Were those all at the same location? The first three look like they were, and maybe you just turned around for the last one, or was that someplace else?

Also, it looks like you've got a tie replacement program going on out that way. You ought to grab some pics of that going on when they do it. You know, some action shot of MOW stuff.

And Neal, I resemble that remark!

Another coffee and a couple pf Bill's doughnuts please Janie,

Neal , PC's and mine are 2 different trains, shot on different days.
The main E-W CSX track from ST Louis to Indy is out back here, so me n PC can watch some of the same trains.

PC , didn't see the door open, i seen it from the left side, when I was out back in the yard, think it went through here bout daylight.
The pics are all of the same train, from the same spot.
I think that is the newest engine pics you've posted.

The boss just hollered, so laters on

I'm baaaack! There are 2 Chessie cars on the track and I got both in the camera. { Boy is that a heavy darn thing to tote.} Also got some pictures of the passenger train we have for the tourist runs. The "Silver Bridle" is supposed to be from a Cal. Zephyr consist. I guess Ed can tell us. Also a couple of shots of the GP-20 with its new paint job.
pc and inch- I too enjoy the pics you post.

I usually catch um commin' out the east side of Indy.

That would make it a bit tougher to spot that minor detail, especially if he was highballin' it like he was when I caught up to him!

I asked because it look like a great spot. You can really catch um commin' and goin' there. Visibility is great.

I was looking back through the old pics, and I think it is. Have to fix that little problem!

OZJim,
I like the station, even if it is a bit blurry. Try and think of it as a REALLY hazy day, that's all. [:p] Is it a kit or a scratchbuilt?

Hello Folks: I’ve heard from Krump. He says
QUOTE: let them know at the Trains Forum that I say hi, but my time is currently occupied.
Actually he had quite a bit more to say about their health situation, so if you could add him and Christine to your prayers, he would appreciate it. Email me for more details if you would like.

Luc:
QUOTE: Time to share some good news for a change.

Congratulations! That will make you a GGP[bow][(-D]
How are things otherwise?

PC: Our condolences. AS you say, it never rains but it pours! We’re thinking of you both.[angel]

Mike:
QUOTE: I think I remember seeing an ad like that in the MRR.
…Yes, come to think of it, that’s probably the one.[tup]
QUOTE: #3 son and his boy share the same birthday,
We have a friend who adopted two babies years ago. They are a year apart in age, but have the same [bday]!!
Thanks for the electrical box and grade crossing signal pics, the train is a bonus![;)] Actually lineside details like those are a great help.

Paul:
QUOTE: It's been real hard digging the post holes. The cutting edges on the auger are worn and the ground is very hard. It's dig a little and add water, wait a half day or over night and repeat.

At least you can auger into earth. Here we pretty much have just rocks, and soaking them hasn’t helped too much! Put up a bird nest box on a steel post (ex Real Estate sign holder) and the only way to get enough depth was to find a series of rocks to remove in roughly the right place! However, jamming the rocks back and hammering them has given a fairly stable post now.[tup]

Scott:
QUOTE: They could easily make the second and fourth drivers blind and put lateral motion devices on the first and fifth drivers to reduce curvature stress. Heck, the first and fifth drivers don't need to be flanged if the tires are widened and then the lateral motion devices are linked to the lead and trailing trucks so that they move in sequence around the turn. This would greatly reduce stress, because the flanges would only follow the shape of the curve----
…easily? [:D]

NJBill:
QUOTE: Is there a full moon someone failed to post at NOAA?
Right now it’s hard to tell as the moon is almost exactly accompanying the sun, and rises just after sunrise! So, could be, could be.[alien]
QUOTE: I was going to ask a question about NCE DCC products but I think I will wait until the ill wind passes.
..I run a NCE Powerhouse DCC unit, but haven’t any of their decoders. What were you wondering?
BTW, nice “save”[^]

Flip: Thanks for the poem. I’ve just finished a book that Kris got out of the library and then passed on to me. Mitch Albom’s “the five people you meet in heaven”. An interesting read, I think you might like it.

Pat:[#welcome] Many Vets and related here, so you’ll find an especial welcome. Ryan, is in NC too.

Fergie:
QUOTE: Well I signed up for a new Railimages account over at Trainboard so I am now on the process of changing my photos over.
Did they send you your old albums as an email? I’ve been waiting for that before doing anything about mine, as that’s what I gathered from the notice they sent out.
QUOTE: attempting two Tsunami installs. Could prove to be my most challenging to date.
I’m sure *** (who has been away on vacation) would be interested in your techniques. He bought another steamer on his way home, and plans to put in a Tsunami, I think.

OZJim: That station is a beaut!

Thanks to all who post the train pics. It really helps us deprived individulas who have no local RRs[tup]

Was going to try to touch up the bald spots in the ballast this afternoon,( still not done, what was that you said about “to do” lists, NJBill and Mike?) but a trip has been decreed. Not that I don’t mind getting out. This weather is getting us all down a bit, rain, rain, rain.[V]
Maybe this evening, unless we watch a DVD our daughter loaned us and wants back soon.[:D]

Afternoon All: We're still worn out from yesterday. The reception went well. Alot of folks came that I didn't know and a few that I hadn't seen in along time. I'm moving all my equipment home. We've had some more problems with some folks that live accross the road from the track. It's along story but suffice it to say that it is causing some concern for the safty of our equipment.

Welcome Pat to the coffee shop. Don't worry about PC, he growls but dosen't bite. I'm

All,

OK, so I'm off to this new railfanning spot I found to get some pics today. It's a 1910 six arch concrete viaduct over a large creek. It's on the CSX doubletrack mainline out of the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana.

So I'm sittin' there for about an hour and it's getting hot. The only action I'm catching on film is this.....

"I need a drink" I said to myself. So off I go to the local gas station to get a coke. Wouldn't you know it, the minute I come out of the station I can hear the train in the distance commin'. I race back to my spot just in time to see the locomotive go screaming by! Darn! Missed it! Wait a minute, maybe not! I jump back in my car and drive along the tracks trying to catch up. I'm making progress! Then I discover why. There's a signal ahead for the train to stop. Great! As the train comes to a halt I'm right there, camara in hand. After talking with the two engineers for a few minutes (real nice guy's) they let me grab a few shots before they were on their way.

And the fruit of all my labors? Check it out!

I don't know why this pic won't enlarge. If you want to see a bigger version of this pic, here's a link: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Prototype%20Train%20Photos/Captured2006-6-2500014.jpg Click on the bottom corner of the pic in this link and it will expand to full size.

Someday maybe I'll catch a train at the viaduct, but for now............

Good afternoon gents......we got back from a week in Maine along the seacoast, at Ogunquit. Luckily we had great weather, but as we checked out on Friday, the sky let loose with everything it had. It downpoured until we reached the Mass border, then we had hot steamy weather the rest of the way home.

I tried to see NOVA SCOTIA and LUC, JOHN & FERGIE across the gulf of Maine, but no dice, too much sea fog way out there over the 58F water, in fact, I could barely see Boon Island Lighthouse 20 miles out. The seafood was outstanding as usual.

A big welcome to PAT and any other new member of the CS while I was away.

I have a few pages to check back on, so I will get that soon.

I visited TWO Model RR stores while away. One was at Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, on route 1. It was part of an Antique store on the 1st floor with MRR on the 2nd floor. He had Lionel, HO and N guage. Not too much of a selection of HO though, but what he did have was reasonably priced. I purchased 4 cars at $13.50 each and no sales tax (NH).
The other MRR store was in Chelmsford, Ma on route 4, about 3 miles east of I-495. This LHS was called Maine Trains, and he had one of the neatest stores that I have seen. It was in a small strip Mall of about 6 stores, and his stock was very good, he had a small HO layout, and it was just featured in the June Model RR Craftsman mag. He had a nice selection of Diesels, a small selection of Steam, and a very good selection of track, turnouts, cars, woodland scenics, etc. There was a track setup so that you could try out the locos if you wanted, which I did, I purchased an 0-8-0, DCC ready and 4 cars at an average price of $15 ( Athearn RTR ). The owner was real pleasant guy, and seemed knowledgeable, he is from England, and had a nice selection of double decker English buses ( not for sale ).

So that is about it from central Massachusetts ( Algonquin native American word meaning " land of many hills" ). Raining, again and we already have an entire 6 months rain in 25 days of June. Talk later,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Howdy howdy howdy.

Man...I'm tired.[|)] We had a very busy day today at Bose thanks to the rain. Everyone comes to the speaker store when they realize they won't be outside all summer.[:D] But it was an excellent day, definitely made the sales goal for the day.[tup][tup]

Inch: HEY!!!! Don't burst my bubble like that. [:p]

John Der: Okay...Not quite as easy as it sounds [:p] ...But definitely do-able and would greatly reduce the stress on the track caused by the long rigid wheelbase of a ten-drivered locomotive.

Hey y'all, I'll be on main street if you need me.

Ed: So what's up down there?

I'm going to head out and see what I can get done before I head for bed. I hauled the narrow gauge gondolas back from the track. I'll bring the locomotive back tomorrow. I've also got to get our picnic tables back. That's all for now have a good night .

Actually 6/25 should be a New Moon. I may have the exact date wrong since I don't look at this stuff when I'm not at work. New, quarter, half or full, the BBS world has a foul wind blowing through right now.[:(][V]

As for NCE, I have been wondering if it would be best to go with the PowerPro over the PowerCab. The PowerCab is the right price but only four engines makes me wonder if I'm going to grow out of the thing quickly. On the other hand, if I don't, I'll have way too much with the PowerPro. It would be nice if there was something in between 4 and 50 engines.

Also, if I purchased the PowerCab and later want to upgrade to the PowerPro, how much of the Cab is compatable with the Pro?

I really wish I could go to the train show in July. I could see all these different DCC systems and ask millions of annoying newbie questions.[;)][:p]

Good evening clubbers,

Long time AWOL I know... been so focused on preparing that Philly clinic that I haven't been participating in this Coffeeshop or the one across the street. Haven't read more than 3 pages back, but I notice quite a few of the 'old gang' have been here [not 'naming names' for fear of missing somebody]. I feel like a drowned rat now, it's been pouring down rain continuously here in MD for the past 3 hours [it displays as dark red on the Weather.com radar maps]. And it is supposed to be like this for the next two days - yuk![xx(] (Paul, did you get enough rain recently where you're at, maybe I can send some of this your way?)

ez175th - [#welcome] to the coffee shop, good bunch of people here!

PC, looks like you are really being put to the test there buddy [with your cousin's sudden passing] - hang in there![angel] Great pics BTW, I especially liked the one of those two NKP museum pieces at the crossing.

Inch - always enjoy seeing your pix too!

Congrats Luc, on the new extended family addition!

Scott - glad you were able to finnagle something positive [Bose sales] out of this crappy weather!

OzJim nice job on that station! I got the smaller Golden Valley depot myself.

Attaboy, it would be great to see you in Philadelphia on the day I'm doing my presentation. But if I was in your shoes I would definitely opt for the layout tours - there's a bunch of great ones in that area and it would a shame to miss them. As I was telling Duke in an email, I won't be there after July 6 - there is this annual vacation trip that we coordinate with a few other families so I was overwhelmingly outvoted on going during the 'open' [to nonmemebers] part of the National show. Oh well, I'm too broke anyway...

Oh yeah I almost forgot to mention - I traded in my old corporate logo for a new one!

Good night all...[zzz]

Mornin all, just some coffee Zoe,
Made it through a busy Sunday, we all ate way to much at mom’s, also found out my sister’s grandson Brandon was run over by a riding mower, broke his hand [4 places], took a big chunk off his butt, took off his little toe and cut his foot up bad. He’ll be OK, but still has to have skin graphs in 3 weeks.
J Birds 2’nd burthen day party went great, thought maybe ya’ll might enjoy some of the pics. She really liked the cake grandma made her,

I think this was her favorite present.

Flip , are we going to see some pics of the Cheesie car you got in the camera.

Der , if you talk to Krunp again, tell him, we’re thinking of him here.
QUOTE: Thanks for the electrical box and grade crossing signal pics, the train is a bonus!
glad I could help you with the details.

Jerry , thanks for the info on Jewet, I didn’t know that. I did know that NYC had shops in McKean at one time, but there’s no sign of them now.

Chuck , HO scale people are bout 7/8’s tall.

PC , first time for pics at that spot, it was just an opportunity that happened.
There’s a bridge here I’ve tried to catch a train on with no luck YET.

Grayfox , glad your trip went well and the weather held to the good side. Sounds like you got some good deals in the LHS there.

Paul , glad to hear the reception went well. I think visiting with old friends is always the best part of any gathering.
Hope ya’ll get the problems with the across the road lined out soon.

KEN L , I know your clinic will go OK and don’t forget to enjoy your self also.

Need to get moving, bout time for Leroy n KC to get here, and still have plenty to do getting ready for all the company coming this weekend. Thoughts n prayers for all.

How about a tall cup O Joe! The cob webs need a brush away this morning! And since it is on PC’s plastic, I guess I’ll have two eggs sunny side up, two sausage links and hickory smoked bacon, some home fried potatoes and onions, a couple slices of buttered wheat toast, some of Ed’s OJ (if there is any) and of course a refill of some tall cup O Joe!

I did get a chance to work in the yard in between the showers this weekend. And it is still raining on the way into work this morning. Rain, rain, go away, come back another day! Seems to be the current chant here in the north east. We are under flood watch warnings until tomorrow; I think the drought is over for our area, and water restrictions were lifted about a month ago.

I got some good progress on the layout this weekend. Cut a large supply of cleats and screwed in about 6 of them on the joists, and I got the first three sheets of ¾” plywood for the sub-roadbed put down too. Also reprinted the 1:1 track plans and started taping them together for the track laying template. I just need to take a few photos of the current progress and post on my layout website. My Mouser wire and electrical supplies order came in Friday, including 400’ of AWG 20 feeder wire and 200’ of AWG 14 bus wire. I have an order in at the LHS for 200 pieces of cork roadbed, should be getting that in within the next few days.

My younger son had is 11th birthday party on Saturday, and he had a few close friends over for a day of fun at our house. They played basketball in the front, hide and go seek inside, and played a few video games. Ben organized the whole event, and we helped him with a few details of course, but for an 11 year old I was proud of him for pulling off the event himself. Not to brag too much, but we went to one of our friends birthday party on Sunday and don’t you know Ben pitched in and gave him some of the birthday money he had just gotten on Saturday! He is one of the most unselfish kids I know!

And now for something completely different:

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming…..

Man, when it rains, it pours! I just found out that my cousin who I grew up with has just passed away. Last week my wife lost an Aunt, now this. This is been a tough two weeks! Guess I've got another funeral to go to. This one's out of state.

Phillip, Sorry to hear about that, and I hope everyone is taking it well. Life happens fast sometimes, time and faith heals all! It is tough for you now, but know that we have all been through this before, and will go through it again; it doesn’t make it any easier, I know. But know that we are here to listen and pray with you in love and faith and in the Holy Spirit, forever, amen!

And great shots of the NPR and CSX on the road, and driving at 60 MPH! Wow, can you juggle too! Also, great shots from the stopped CSX too!

Hey Phil/Flip,

Your timing is impeccable! Thanks again for the calming words of peace and sprit!

Thank You all.

And Flip, a special thanks to you.

I did a lot of thinking and praying while I was out railfanning this morning. I'm OK with it now. It was tough, but I'm good.

Hope you all enjoyed the pics.

PC Great to hear that the trains and railfanning had that kind of effect on you. Sounds like great therapy, I might have to try that too soon! There is just something about getting out on the road, driving,, watching and following all that moving mass of locomotive power that has a calming effect, don’t it!

Morning all!

Ryan has done so well at ordering this morning that I think I'll just follow his lead. Give me what he got please Chloe, thanks!

Ed,
I didn't know that. I guess I'll have to try to make all my pics horizontal ones from now on.

inch,
I know what you mean about catching shots at great locations and the trouble you can have making that happen. Did you read my account of railfanning yesterday? Much the same as your experience I'll bet.

BTW, looks like a nice gathering at the homestead! Looks like it was fun!

Ryan,
Thanks for the kind words. I did find out this morning that my cousin had come to know the Lord recently, so that eases my mind a great deal.

Glad you enjoyed the pics! No, I don't juggle. You should have seen all the pics that I threw out. Man, I had pics of everything but trains on there from that experience. I got pics of grass moving at 60MPH, trees, my car's mirror, road, oncoming traffic, the door pillar, you name it! Those were just the ones that actually had trains in them!

It was great to just get out and chase trains though. Very relaxing! I'd recommend it to anyone!

Rob/Flip,
Great stuff! Too bad it's the wrong scale for me!

All,
Well, gotta run! I've remembered you all in my prayers.

Catch you later!
Philip

Good morning all....Sunny and cooler here today...How about coffee and a sweet roll please....I.ve been adding signs and details to some buildings...Gave up on the Trix f unit put it away for another day....Folks here in the apartments are fighting over washing machines by this afternoon nobody will be down there...Just can't seem to get myself that worked up over a washing machine....

Mike...Wow Jay birds cake is great...Does she make many train cakes? I've been told that on over at Woodbury the Pennsy had a water trough between the tracks and picked water up on the fly..They say it never worked out very well and they took it out...Which reminds me of a Greenup story they had a night watch man as they called him instead of a cop..They called him Old 8 days..One of his jobs was to take the mail sack down to the track and put it up on stand to be picked up on the fly...One rainy cold wind night he put it up got back in his car to wait for the train...Wind blew it off..he put it back it fell again.. this time he got in his trunk got some wire and wired it up...Along came the express....Arm went right through the bag....Feds were picking up mangled mail for a week....

KenL...Good to have you back..What kind of a clinic are you doing?

OZJim....Great job on Clarksville station..Any problems I am getting ready to build one in N scale....

Ed...Any progress on the layout?

Got to go you all have a good one ...Jerry

FUNNY FOR THE DAY

>IS THERE BASEBALL IN HEAVEN?
>
>Two ninety year old men, Moe and Sam, have been friends all their lives.
>It seems that Sam is dying, and Moe comes to visit him every day.
>
>"Sam," says Moe, "You know how we have both loved baseball all our lives,
>and how we played minor league ball together for so many years.
>Sam, you have to do me one favor.
>When you get to Heaven, and I know you will go to Heaven,
>somehow you've got to let me know if there's baseball in Heaven."
>
>Sam looks up at Moe from his death bed, and says,
>"Moe, you've been my best friend many years.
>This favor, if it is at all possible, I'll do for you."
>
>And shortly after that, Sam passes on.
>It is midnight a couple of nights later.
>Moe is sound asleep when he is awakened
>by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calls out to him,
>
>Moe.... Moe...."
>
>"Who is it?" says Moe sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"
>
>"Moe, it's me, Sam."
>
>"Come on. You're not Sam. Sam just died."
>
>"I'm telling you," insists the voice. "It's me, Sam!"
>
>"Sam? Is that you? Where are you?"
>
>"I'm in heaven," says Sam, "and I've got to tell you,
>I've got really good news and a little bad news."
>
>"So, tell me the good news first," says Moe.
>
>"The good news," says Sam "is that there is baseball in heaven.
>
>Better yet, all our old buddies who've gone before us are there.
>Better yet, we're all young men again.
>Better yet, it's always spring time and it never rains or snows.
>And best of all, we can play baseball all we want, and we never get tired!"
>
>"Really?" says Moe, "That is fantastic, wonderful beyond my wildest dreams!
>But, what's the bad news?"
>
>"You're pitching next Tuesday."

Ya never know do ya. Ya'll have a gooden
