Afternoon all.
well hashed it out with Mom and we both agree to liquidate all assets here and move to Mississippi. We own some property just north of Popularville on Hwy 59. Actually it is just east of Lumberton in what is called Lake Hillsdale. This place is so big you can't find it on a map. We will have to build another house but at 65 I'm still young. It just so happens I hav a set of plans for the new house.
This won't happen tomorrow. Like I said we have to liquidate first. That will probibly take about six months or so then we will worry about building the house. So as of today the work on my layout stopped. When we get there we will have 900 sq. ft to share, 200 sq ft for my trains and 700 sq. ft. for her quilting. Well I had to make some consessions to get her to move. You know victory always comes with a price.And this marrage is a partnership. She couldn't get rid of me even if she tried. Besides I think she is liking this second childhood.
If anyone knows anybody in the Popularville or Hattisburg area please let me know. We don't know any one there.

The bikes[all 6] have been shipped to Christies in L.A. for auction. They gave us a check for deposit on the bikes and we gave them the titles. The auction is supposed to be in Sept. and they will send me a catalogue when printed and I'll pass it along.

We have started painting clouds and I covered them all up....LOUSLY...Time to start again. Found the instructions for the camera and how to transfer them to comp. I am trying it out to see if it works. Sending them to Kathy's lap....top. Will try to send pictures to photobucket if this works.

Good afternoon everyone, the sun finally came out today, we had a beautiful sunrise with clear skies. So we were able to get some grass cut, and few other outside chores, then I headed over the hill to son #2's house to the great wall project. I managed to get another 20 feet of base down as well as the 2nd row. If we get a good week with no rain, the wall should be all done by next Friday...

Hello hello hello.

I just got back from a day of hiking. The family went to the C & O Canal...Specifically Four Locks. Walked all around there, and then headed to Fort Frederick. It was fun. The weather wasn't too bad...Kind of hot though, and it got a bit humid later on. But survivable.[:o)]

You know what really cheeses me off...Rail Trails. I picked up a pamphlet for the Western Maryland rail trail...20 miles of paved trail! Oh boy...I'd rather have 20 miles of rail that I could get a ride from a restored locomotive.[V]

Inch: The tender for the steasel will be the next thing out of the shops. But after that...I have no idea...Whatever comes to my head.[^]

PC: Hmm...Now I'm going to be calling the cab the "hot seat." Thanks PC.[:p]

Kathy and Chuck: Glad y'all like the steasel. You can't take the hobby too seriously...Or you'll never fully reach the capacity of your creativity.[:D] So I have found a way to make a compromise between steam and diesel nuts.

Good Evening Gang: The report for tonight is HOT! The temp was way up today. The sun at 5pm felt like it was only a few feet from me. I took Daisy the dog out for a walk and she just found a truck to hide under out of the sun.

The custom bailer came today to cut the hay, what there is of it. He quit early with a flat tire on one of his tractors. I guess that everyone is having a run of bad luck.

The bad part of this is that we get charged a minimum of 2 bales per acre. I don't think that we'll make that much so this is going to be very expensive hay.

It's getting toward 8:30pm so I'd better get to bed. I'll see you all tomorrow.

Had a nice quiet day, got some time layout work done and some cleaning in there, bout it except a nap or two. Been cloudy n misty here all day, suppose to be nicer tomorrow.

Neal , I’m just lucky here to have as much rail traffic as I do here. I know CSX is putting in more passing siding from Terre Haute, to Evansville, IN. to handle increase traffic and they’re talking increases here even.
I agree, concession is the key to a long marriage, makes it easier to sleep in the same house and your dinner plate intact anyway. Good luck with the move.

Sorry for my being AWOL so long from the Shop! From the looks of things, a good time was had here in the CS over Memorial Day and the week plus since then. Several people back in - Duke, and probably others my memory lost in going through the many, many pages of posts I was skimming wading through.

I’m so far behind I will not even attempt to reply to much, since I know I'll miss someone. If anyone asked me a question while I was gone, y’might want to email me with it (better chance lately of it reaching me in a timely way).

I got the MRR club’s diner about ready for them (yeah, finally...). That Bettie’s Diner has a lot of little parts, and the walls aren’t easy to assemble (doesn’t fit the rounded-corner walls into the base like many kits do with rectangular corners). So, one of the corners isn’t 100 percent right. Yep, Teffy’s Law time. [;)]

I also won a couple of items recently on eBay - one was probably overpriced, but will be useful for some kitbashing. I’d not looked close enough at the photos, which could’ve showed me that it didn’t have the walls (old Revell kit, Superior Bakery). Plus, the guy put the box inside another shipping box (about twice as deep) without *any* styrofoam, peanuts, or even wadded newspapers. [}:)] [censored]

On the other item, I was *very* pleased - a Railway Design Associates kit (Easton Mill) with exquisite detail, thicker than average plastic, and some extra parts & details included. I’m looking forward to assembling that one. [yeah] On a side/sadder note, if any of you are familiar with Rod (the head of RDA, and who also was very instrumental in designing prototype masters - several O scale items for Lionel over the years), prayers may be in order. His wife Carole (who listed the kit on eBay) said in an email that Rod’s in ICU, and very touch-and-go on his condition. Sure would hate to lose that guy, after reading all the ways he has contributed to this hobby (in multiple scales).

Paul - I think I missed it - did you order more of those ore cars (that Walthers back-ordered on you)? I will believe they’re in when they show up on the Walthers site (maybe...) - and I have my doubts that will occur when they’re on sale. (My own Murphy’s Law there) [;)]

Looks like ‘old’ Scouts week here lately - I can join in, I guess.

Nope! The two shots of the red caboose are actually the same caboose from two different sides. Notice the trim is different on three of the sides. [%-)] As if that's not strange enough, look at the capola. It doesn't look like there were ever windows there. Kind of pointless. All I can think of is that it must have been resided at one point and used for MOW or crew quarters or something. It's just north of Trafalgar, IN. on hwy 135. The other two are about two or three miles apart on hwy 67 just east of Indianapolis, IN.

I remember. The top one next to the building is a craft shop now. The middle one is a garden design studio, and the bottom one is just sitting there doing nothing. All of them are sitting on rails, but the rails that connect to any local line are long gone, so they're all stranded.

FLIP I think DUKE mentioned leaving Friday afternoon. His son inlaw wasgoing to cut the grass for him so that he could get an early start for Florida. I see that you are finally getting the rain you need to put out all those fires.

Off on another four day adventure. [V] Not looking forward to this summer, something tells me that this travel season is going to be ugly. After 9/11, people tried to be nice but now I can sense that the fake niceness is going to end and the real attitudes and behaviors are going to start back up.

On a happier note, I am going to try to check out a couple of hobby shops in Chicago. Hopefully, I can find the right bus line to get me there.

Good morning all you fine folks in the CS! A tall cup O Joe for me today! I feel like going back to sleep this morning. Rain, rain and more rain, this weekend! I think the drought conditions are finally over in these parts.

Ben has gotten into the model rocket hobby a few weeks ago, and we went out yesterday and blasted off a few rockets, and one ended up about 80 feet at the top of a tree!! Oh no! Well, that just means we have to go buy another new one!

***, I totally agree with you, any new PC that I deliver or build out for purchase starts with a minimum of 1 GB RAM, you can never have too much RAM. And for servers we usually go with a minimum of 2 GB RAM for starters. Just makes sense to start with those amounts, in a few more years these minimums will probably need to be doubled.

Boy Scouts was a large part of my youth, I was also a Cub Master for Ben’s Cub Scout Pack for three years up until May of last year.

PC, Well, I could have done better. But as they say in Scouting, “Do your best!” And I have always followed that motto throughout my life. If you do “do your best”, then you always know that you gave it your all. It kind of reminds me of the Army recruiting catch phrase “Be all that you can be”.

Good Morning....Sunny and cool here this morning Summer time weather doesn't get any better than this....I'll have coffee and a Krispy Kream please....Well its taken over a week but I think I may have wore this tummy flu stuff out....I been working on Walther's Merchants row have painting done and putting "glass" in....My brother was here yesterday and we are getting started on the turntable I am using a round layer cake pan for the pit he's going to make the bridge from soft pine and we are going to use a 1/4 inch male and female plug to turn it and also get power to bridge will be able to remove bridge then if we need to Looks like it will work but then I have had lots of thing I thought should work and didn't.....My son Has bench work done on his N scale railroad and bench work done on hidden yard...Care giver is running the sweeper and I gotta move you all have a good one....Jerry

Afternoon all -
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was ok. Wi***he weather was better, but hey, as long as it was not snow, I really did not mind the rain as much as I would have if it was snow.
I spent from 9-2 on Friday at the firehouse, helping out with a car seat check station. Had one call even. At noon, we got a call for a fire alarm activation at the local Target. Turns out, a little kid pulled one of the fire alarm 'pull boxes' on accident. [censored] him! From what I heard from the 3 guys that went in to check things out, he knew he had done something wrong, just by the expression on his face. Let's hope this taught him a lesson about when to and when not to pull a fire alarm.
On another note, I received a few emails from our friend the Moderator, aka Bergie, IRT swdave's posts. He said he was going to 'take care of things' and that he hope's all will be well in the CS again soon.

Almost time for the kids to leave, so thought I’d stop in for a cold one. Turkey’s coming along fine, down to finishing before long. Haven’t decided what else to have yet, beside sweet tater.

Ryan , I don’t know what that bear had eaten, but he needed a good a guess does of scope. He wanted my hat for the salt in the sweatband and I let him have, not a good sight at daylight.
You’ll have to fight the lady’s at the fair grounds for the turkey ***; Mother said the food prices area lot higher this year. Cheese fries and a lemon shake up cost her almost $9 yesterday.

Don’t worry its store bought turkey. Rubbed with olive oil, fresh sage, garlic [from our herb garden], season salt, and there’s a water pan below the cook rack, that I put sliced apples, sage, garlic tops, and apple leaves in. Then it cooks for bout 8-10 hours over charcoal. Bout an hour before it’s done I take the leftover rub and a little honey and baste it.
Think that might get close to city folk eats and no tire tracks.

Actually still afternoon for about half an hour but the way I type it'll be evening before the post hits. Nice day today - just started late and had to do a house call to Ossining (yes that one - home of Sing Sing prison) to fix some issues with the Theodore F-1 car. It's sometimes easier to do that instead of having the entire car dragged all the way up here.
Mt Equinox went well enough considering we never got a dry run in. It rained all day Saturday and the best I could do was a 5:21 over the 5.62 mile hill. Sunday it stopped raining but it was cool and the fog rolling in up top along with the wetness under the trees made it interesting. Did improve to a 5:02, but I normally break into the 4's. Not this weekend. In the wet the guys with the big V-8's were at a real disadvantage so the Lotus 18 ended up 22 seconds clear of the next car. With the dryer conditions Sunday the next guy (Caddy powered Allard J2X) ended up at 5:13 so I may have to work a bit harder next year. Still felt good about it all as we made the swaybars for the Allard here and they have greatly improved the handling on what is normally quite a difficult car.
Trains? whats that? We're supposed to abe about trains here? Sorry. I did see a lot of empty track around Arlington to Bennington, and the route I take to the hill parallals tracks for a good bit. We eventually run near the old NYC Dutchess branch which is now mostly torn up and replaced with a rail trail north of Wassaic up to i think Copake in NY.
Stopped by the museum after I got home and the SW-8 is fixed and running so they were just finishing the coach shuffle. The whole lot is now hooked to "the Little Engine That Could" and the PA system is tested and pronounced "excellent".
Worked on the trailers just back from Canada after I returned and tomorrow we do preps for Watkins Glen and some work on the 510 Datsun again. All for now - hope you all have a good one. CUL, [:D] J.R.

The storm will send my area plenty of needed rain but we are to expect steady winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts to 50. School buses will NOT be going out so schools will close.

Hope to hear from Duke. He has my ll number.
Neighbors dog got me up at 3 a.m. Lost over an hours sleep and am yawning as I type this. Tomorrow need to be up by 4:30 as first p/u is a trek.

It cleared on Sunday and today was spectacular with clear skies and temps in upper 70's and a gentle breeze. The best part? The 7 day outlook looks the same....right through next Monday!!!!! How sweet it is.

The great wall project only has about 15 feet to go for the 1st course. I will take some pics tomorrow, Mike, you will see the type of clay soil we have here. When it gets wet and then dries in the hot sun, you cannot break the surface with a pointed shovel, you need a pick......it hardens to a concrete consistancy. Luckily, the excavator is doing that work.

On the MRR front, nothing done today, but Craftsman Mag showed up in the mail today so there will be some reading tonight.

RYAN I am glad to see that vendors/mfgrs are installing 1gb of RAM. And I agree with your comment that in a couple of years I GB will be the base amount and 2 GB will be the norm. Programs get more sophisticated every 18 months on average.

Boss wasn't happy today as he wanted to thrash wheat and we woke up to rain and were supose to get more wed because of the tropical storm.

Oh well thats life its supose to be nice tomorrow so I'm going to be trimming bushes.

Not much to tell about today. I picked up a nail in the side wall of one of the new tires that we just put on the tractor. I don't think that I have an hour of work on it. Oh well we just have spent the money on something silly like food.
