Hope you're all well. Temps warmed up here into the high 50s on the Florida west coast.

Hope you all don't mind my mentioning this, but as much as he may irritate some of you, let's try and encourage Parkerlegend. I've chimed in on his posts on HOBO and his latest "Sexy" post to StuckArm. Apparently he still is carrying a chip. I know what its like as I used to be like him when I was in my late 20s.

It's so easy to ask Bergie to take action or to verbally attack him, but instead let's take the "high road" , do it ourselves and help him.

Good Morning All:

The empty nest syndrone isn't so bad, as I don't have to get dressed to come out and play with the computer or go up stairs.

I've found Robert's phone numbers and will call him after 8:00 AM - Mom always told me not to call anyone before 8:00 unless it was life or death. Isn't it strange how those old ideas don't go away.

I just called him and his comment is that he's got a lot to do and the forum was interfearing with his other duties.

I poped another squarrel yesterday and didn't have time to put him at the back of the lot and when I came home to do lunch we was gone. I don't know if a dog or cat picked him up but all these months I've been disposing of them when the problem would have taken care of itself.

In the thread "Vat a Nice Guy" You and I could have gone at it tooth and toenail but what would it accomplish? But MOST of the younger guys on the forum will do that because they can hide behind a false identity and appear big and strong. They can't back talk their parents or teachers (most of them) but on a forum they can be the bully. Bob Boudeau and Don Gibson are some of the exceptions. Now I'm being nasty.

Good morning all, ahhh the fresh aroma of hot coffee on a cold morning...nothing better, we'll , almost nothing better...after all, opening a BD gift from the wife and finding a 2-6-6-6 -2 art. is very nice too.

First, thank you everyone for the BD best wishes, and how does it feel to be 66? One year older than 65 and few more pains in the knees, the body is old but the mind is young.

Secondly, I did not know Robert very long, but I am sorry to see him leave, I hope he reconsiders, we all get up-tight at times when stress level is too high, God knows I was a wreck last year when we had 5 grandkids living here with us 7x24.

Thirdly, I was not going to respond to the Parker/Mitchell episode, but I thought out a "fatherly...errrrr GRAND fatherly response that I hope they will take to heart.

Fourthly, yesterday was a beautiful day here, clear skies....so here is the test, being New England, or NS too, what is the weather here in New England today??? I will score your answers this evening to give the rest of the world a fair chance to reply.

Time to head down to the train room, one last sheet to install on the wall, then there is the wall painting and the electrical hookup of all the duplex outlets and lighting wall switches ( piece of cake ) no pun intended today.

Ed: looks good to me, but I only know a couple of them.

Don't get to visit during first hour much, but I guess today is special. Maybe I can check in 5th hour too.

Now that I've converted a couple of locos to DCC, I want to do them all!!! Its kinda fun after you've made the first few mistakes and learned not to do that again. I'll post a pic of that Dash8 on my railimages site as soon as I get the chance. Now I want to do my older P2K SW1500 (or at least I think that's what body it is) What lighting effects could I put on that? ditch lights don't really fit that style, and a strobe doesn't either.[%-)] Well, it'll be awhile before I get to the LHS again to get more miniatronics 1.2mm's anyway. Those things work nicely and look excellent.

I hadn't really looked in the main forum lately, been busy and barely find time to check in here. It's getting bad out there, even Mitchell got it pretty good, and he didn't even say anything offensive. Seems to me there are just a couple of people causing the problems though, most get along just fine like we do in here.

Only 5 minutes till the end of class, so I better go.

The doc tells me I'll live at least 50 more years (that's reassuring) he was upet that my BP was a bit high but it's unusual for me so he's chalked it up to being a human snah blower[swg]Oh *** had him do a baseline PSA reading was 0.0 so I'm happy I guess any who low call caff free Hot Choc to go Zoe talk to yah all tonight. morning all

been watching the news this morning.

a man who was going to kill himself parked his vehicle on the train tracks and then decided to live... leaving his vehicle on the track... south bound Metrolink train in push mode hit the vehicle then slid and hit UP engien parked... turning the UP engien over and then further derailing the Metrolink cars forcing them to hit the north bound Metrolink's last car turning it onto it's side.

10 dead (including a LA County Sherriff's deputy on his way to work)

All - I have to agree w/ Ed here. I was not happy when I read the whole topic and follow-on posts. I could not believe that there were some forum members that would 'jump all over him' for a simple topic. Someone (Robert, I think) even said something along the lines of ' If you have nothing good to say, don't say it at all' in Robert's defense. I commend that member for defending 'one of our own.' I'm sad to hear that he's no longer with us as a member.

Are you allowed to do that yourself and just have it checked by the code inspector? Somewhere i had imagined that you could mount the boxes and run the cable, but that you had to have a licensed electrician do the actual hookup, but I'm probably having an early halfsheimer attack.

Then you probably saw it after the edits. Unfortunately his original post was pretty strong and with some poor choices of words (although in a good cause). To his credit he did go back and edit his posts and apologize. Hopefully before Bergie saw them.


Brian, that's bad news about the train wreck. I feel sorry for all the innocent people, both dead and injured, who will suffer because of that guy.


It was a beautiful morning here. Mid-80's, partly cloudy, and I played like a jerk out on the course. The good thing is that I don't get nearly as upset as I used to when I was younger. At this stage in my life I can appreciate just being out on the course. It would be nice to shoot just a bit better though...........

Hi everyone,

I had a heck of time getting here today with all the nasties flying about I found myself ducking and dodging. [soapbox] Come on guys, this is suppose to be a fun hobby, now let's put all that nonsense aside and get back to the fun stuff. [2c] OK off the box I go.

The LA train story is so tragic. The news media all seem to have their own version of what happened.

CFO made her appointment yesterday, going to do more testing (blood, urine, etc) then off to a kidney doc. She is worn out with all this. Those stones just keep coming, there does not seem to be any end to it and to top this up she has a severe toothache. The good news is she's going to the dentist on Friday. My appointment was ok. I'll have to go through a simple procedure on Feb 18 and that should be it.

I played some more with that toy camera and got results. Not very good ones but some. All I did for these was layout some track, added the 0-8-0 and a few cars, then sort of placed some buildings on (just to give me some sense of accomplishment.







Yes I know, the pics are a little fuzzy but you get an idea. Remember, this is a toy camera that was given to me and probably came from a dollar shop.

Bob - Thanks again for your information, I'll have to experiment with this. I've used a wash by mixing acrylic paint and water on some of the buildings and that doesn't look to bad, unless you are very close.

Jim in cape - She's still having the problem, but we are working on this, I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel though she has difficulties seeing it. Those who have experienced these will know exactly what that means, the rest of us can only imagine...

And there is some cake left over, Mitchell designed it, did a GREAT job, had A CSX engine on top, Zoe will bring you a piece......it is low cal, low sugar, has chocolate pudding for topping instead of sugar frosting...sorry Mitch, us older guys have to watch our weight and glucose levels.

Ed, the wife did it on her own, she is very proficient now on the computer and making purchases [;)][:)], and she is very astute at watching what I drool over. Love that woman !!!

Brian, I had not seen the news on TV yet, but I'm sure the 6 pm news out of Boston will carry the story. I did hear though, that someone has submitted the name of the guy who left his car on the tracks, for the 2005 Darwin Awards...maybe he will make the top 10!

On the weather front, we received another 6 inches today, man those piles are getting high. No m ore snoah forecasted though until next Monday....ohhh joy !!!

Luc, the pictures are OK, we get a good view of your layout, and that is what counts. Hope the wife is feeling a little better.

Rob, that reading for PSA is great, and you are VERY wise to get a baseline reading at age 33. Keep your fat intake under control and you may never have an issue. They didn't have this test when I was 33, I started getting annual readings at age 50, and it was 2.1.By the time I was 60 it was 4.8 then 6.1 at age 62 and then I was in trouble. I make it a point now to inform as many younger men as I can, to save them the grief.

Thanks for all of your support, and well wishes. It has been a long time since I have done this. There really isn't much luck involved, just hard work. I expect things to go smoothly, as I have been preparing for weeks. The key is the set up, the faster it goes the better.

I have incorporated a number of time saving improvements into the layout in recent weeks. I'm setting myself a goal of 4 hours, from curbside to 4 trains operational. If I'm feeling good, maybe I'll bring some accessories and set them up Saturday.

Ed, thanks for the link on the Timesaver [tup][:)] - I went by that page, and also did a Google search and found a variety of possible ways to build the Timesaver. Didn’t realize there were so many ways to build one (so long as they hold the correct number of cars on each siding/track)!

Lawrence, thanks for the suggestion on the Yahoo groups, but it appears I’d have to join (sure fire way to tip off the spammers, unfortunately) to see the files. So I guess I'll pass for now on looking for those files, unless I want to set up a throwaway email to sign up with.

***, [bday] and I am impressed at your experience - I remember learning about the first lasers (back when they were LASER’s and still an acronym) when I was still in high school. I remember learning (probably an oversimplified version) about the principles behind the laser (the first ones were always red, weren’t they?).
Good to hear your wife notices what RR stuff you drool over!
And yeah, if you’ve been a homeowner that long, you would have learned a few techniques about construction methods...
As for that train show, I’m sure you’re planning on taking lots of notes (and if you can get a camera in there, pics too) - I would sure look to see what I could learn and pick up info about if I could get to such a show.

Oh, *** - I may have scanned in that backdrop article, if you can’t find the MRR issue. Email me if you don’t find it. I do recall that in the article, they used 5 or 6 shades from deeper blue (top) to almost white (bottom), and then they blended the different bands into the adjoining ones. The article said they used oil paints, to allow for more time to blend the shades.

On another topic, I don’t think the guy with the SUV on the train tracks will be getting a Darwin award (they’re usually bestowed posthumously, so since the guy chickened out, he won’t qualify). (I apologize if that sounds cold. Just thinking about all the people who lost loved ones because he didn’t pull the SUV off the tracks when he changed his mind. Sorry. The guy should get some professional help, though).

Duke, regardless of what Ed says, we can accept all sizes, including (Zimpossible, Ginormous, Horribly Oversized and others. And some of us (moi?) are proud of modeling in HO scale. But though we kid each other, we also learn from other scales, engine types and such.[:)]
