Thanks for the recipe, John. I think we'll give it a try. It sounds sufficiently easy for me.

Hi Gang; I checked in last night , but was too pooped to write anything. Tonight I'm tired ,but mostly sore in the knees and lower legs. It's H--l getting old.

I did get to the basement for awhile tonight. Did some picking up and found a work bench under all the junk. I'm planning on going to the hobby shop in Denton Saturday. I've got to get three #8 right hand turnouts. That is for the junction for the line to port and the iron range. I found enough turnouts for the new ore yard, except for one #4 left hand. I'll start laying out the track center lines soon and find out for sure what won't fit. I think that I'll lay the track directly on the plywood again. It worked out the last time and was not noisy. That was suprising. I had expected to have to put up with some noise. Now you should remember that progress will depend on how much testing I have to do on the main line. Teffy knows all about that pit fall.

Noah; You're going to be rich if this weather keeps up.

The weather has been eventful her. Not the continued cold and freezing precipatation like some of you northern types are getting. At least not yet. A few days ago it was shirt sleeve weather and the last couple of days it's been heavy coat and gloves. Add rain and wind and I'd rather have a nice easy snow storm. Now they are saying that we may get some sleet tonight. If that happens I'll stay home and go to the basement.

So you have a good night and I'll stop in tomorrow.

Flip; Debbie is in my thoughts and prayers. Don't ever feel that you can't ask us for a little help. That's part of why we hang around here. I'm glade that your check up came out good. That's one worry down.

God Bless

(Or are you just doing it for the pain meds?) And I guess we just missed another OSHA Recordable when Fergie’s soldering iron missed his lap and just got the rug!

Hopefully Phil has a green light and his wife will also recieve a clear to go. Seriously though the one thing I hate about going to sea is the prospect of not being able to respond to family emergencies, and yes it has happened before and I didn't find out about it until two or three months later!

As for the OSHA Recoedable we call them TSB1808's and Lab369's. I'm actually an Xspurt on them as I use to give courses, on how to fill them out, to Fleet personnel. It helps when you have lots of experience!

It was only 55 minutes tonight and I got the "Look" as supper was cold. Oh well Lisa will live.

BTW Lisa is getting depressed as she can't figure what to get me for my B-day! I'm sure you guys can put your mids together and give her ideas!!![;)][;)][;)]

Phil: You are in or thoughts as we had a moment of silence at Scouts tonight and you and Debbie came to mind. God willing, what ails you will come to pass.

Luct: I mentioned Hardy's broken leg to a few other Scouters tonight and I got the look adn I replied by saying "How do I know? Why I read about it on the internet". Truly a small world. We really have to get together soon!

Paul: As to your weather... I feel the pain! BTW I like it cold!

Sounds like a great day for trainin'. Everyone have a great evening or morning, depending on when you get here.

Ahhhh Fergie, you beat me to the punch with the "special" additive to the eggnog! Have any of you guys tried adding Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum in your eggnog??? Well if you haven't, you are missing out on a great experience.

Ed, the wife is feeling a little better, this cold was the worse she had had in years, luckily it has stayed away from me, but then again, I have eggnog and Captain Morgan watching out for me.

The storm is finally over here in MA, it is now headed up to Nova Scotia to Fergie's house. We received 7 inches of snow and the topping on the white cake was....1 " of ice.
It will be fun tomorrow clearing the driveway, I'll probably lose a couple of shear pins.

Flip, one word of advice, keep an eye on that PSA reading!! Mine was only 4 and my doctor was really on his toes, he decided to have me get another test called a "free" PSA test. They draw a another vile of blood and the reading is in percentage points, the higher the better. Mine was only 6.5%. That triggered a biopsy and I had stage 2 cancer in one small area. I had no history of this in my family, but as the doctor stated, it is at epidemic stages in men. At 63 ( at the time) I decided on removal of the prostate, as this is the only method that is 100% cure, "if" caught early like mine.
Guys, I cannot stress it enough, get BOTH tests, it is painless, and ASK what your reading is!!! Don't listen to a doctor tell you, " your OK"......BS....know what the reading is!!

Time for bed, hard work tomorrow. Ed, send some oranges up here please!!!

Well we got hammered last night. a real stinker I'll be labouring all morning to get the 3" of snow off the driveway. Might have to call in reserves[:D]

I can laugh now but I know the above words will come back and bite me.

Turbo: I'm not one to complain about the weather as I like the fact I only have to mow the lawn for 7 months of the year. However I do not enjoy the month of Farch (Feb/Mar) as it can get right soggy and grey. If I wasn't on course for the next three weeks I'd be skiing and skating. Heck we even have vinyards up this way.

For growing we are in a Zone 6 (USDA Zone 5), which affords us a fairly good growing season Not as good as New England (yes I'm envious)

And though it would be nice we don't need an air conditioner, well maybe for about three weeks in the Summer. That's why I liked going to Labrador or the Arctic in August.

Nothing like a chunk of Iceberg to keep your drink cold!

Good Morning Everybody,
It's a gray, rainy, chilly day in the mountains today. It definitely cooled off a good bit last night. It's still warmer than it should be, but it's a lot closer to normal. The chore list is fairly short today, so I should be able to get the last short strech of track ballasted and get the tree stuff out.

The next major project on the honey-do list has finally made it's way to the top. Tomorrow I get to start redoing the downstairs bathroom. First up is to strip the wallpaper. I really don't like wallpaper anymore. It looks good, but it's a real pain. Construction progress on the railroad will necessarily slow down for a bit, but I'll still get some track and loco "testing " done. Anyway, today will be mostly a railroad day, and I'll deal with tomorrow when it gets here.

Der, the eggnog recipe sounds great. we've not tried it as creamer, but we will. Thanks.

Flip, that's good news on the Dr's appt. Not bad at all for 68 1/2. We'll continue to keep your wife in our thoughts and prayers for good news on her appt. too.

Trolleyboy, 4x4's in the ditch is a very common and interesting phenomenom. I think these folks believe that four wheel drive somehow changes the laws of physics. Many, many times I've been coming home from Charlotte or Greenville in bad weather on I-85, and been creeping along in the right hand lane, to be blown past by an SUV, 4x4 or an 18 wheeler. Frequently I'd catch up with them in the next five or six miles because they were in the ditch or the median. Most of the time nobody was hurt, and it just looked like a learning experience. Sometimes though it was really bad.

Ed, welcome back. I was wondering where you were. Track and loco testing are a very important part of the process. It's good that it's so much fun. Fresh squeezed orange juice is wonderful stuff. It's one of the few things that I really miss about Florida.

Paul, getting older does have it's challenges, as well as it's rewards. It's definitely not for sissies though. If I'd known how much fun bad knees would be, I might have done some things differently in the past. I'm fortunate that they're not real bad, just enough to let me know that they are there, and that I was mean to them when I was younger.

Fergie, wouldn't a Loy's toys gift certificate make the birthday shopping easier for Lisa? Or one from BLI? I think one of those could be put to good use, don't you. We're in zone 6 here, because of the altitude. It's been so warm so far that we've got daffodils starting to pop up now.

I'd better go for now. It's time to head for the basement.
Have a great day, everybody,
Tom

Ed-
You're right, it would have been great if we'd met up earlier, as I've been up here for 5 years now! Anacortes supposedly has 4 inches of snow, but just raining on our end of the bridge for now

Good morning.

Just a quick visit for a request. A good friend and co-worker lost his father today. Although it was expected, Billy and his dad were very close. Could you please keep Billy and his family in your toughts over the next few days while they adjust to this difficult time. Billy's fought a long battle with cancer. Thank so much.

Good Friday all [:)]

When I got up Thursday morning the computer was playing its "games" and would not let me get online. After trying to start the computer several times it finally went into scandisk (the L O N G ) version and was scanning the drive from about 1 pm Thursday afternoon to about 9 am Friday morning. Now it will finally let me on so here I am.

Sorry about not being able to respond to private emails. I always respond when I see one. I do get a ton of spam so it is possible it might have been put in the spam file by aol OR I just didn't see it.

Flip

I will add Debbie to my prayer list.

Luc

I will also add Billy and family to the prayer list.

Well I see we have heard from Car 54. [:D] Seems to have taken the wrong exit and wound up in Mexico. No wonder the radio wasn't getting a signal to him. lol [;)]

Well it is STILL raining here, what a muddy mess everything is ! ! ! My yard is a swamp. But once again, I thank God, it is not below freezing because it could be much worse.

IF anyone has a prayer request they don't want to share with us here in the shop, let me remind you to check out my sig. There I have listed a link to a group who will pray for a prayer request for you. If you want more info you may email me or check out the website listed in the link.

Sooner or later I will have to replace my hard drive. I just hate to part with 85 to 90 bucks to do it. [8] [B)] [:(] But like they say, if ya wanna play ya gotta pay. [:(!]

Well, everyone have a good day and an even better weekend. [8D]

Wi***he weather would get it straight and either be warm or cold so the body can adjust to it. Should have taken better care of it when I was young, but who does , when you are young you are like superman and when you get older you pay for it. 30 years ago I didn't know I had all these joints that ache now at every weather change. Why is youth wasted on the young? Must keep every one in our prayers these days.

Good afternoon folks: Well, 50 of the "1000 points of light" are shining on the lower yard [^] And yes, Duct Tape is the current answer. I am not convinced that it's the final solution on its own. I'll probably end up thumb tacking the ends of the DT strips. Also, a more careful placement of the tape needs to be made to bring some of thebulbs square with the plywood panels they are mounted on. These bulbs have a lens shape at tehend, and if they are pointing down, cast an image of the fillament onto the wall. (aka backdrop, but it's not done yet [:D]) For the curious, it's a coil fillament. For the Sc-Fi oriented, looks like we are being invaded by "Strings" from an alternate universe[alien]. Anyway, it's good to see the test loco in "daylight" for the first time.[(-D]
The power supply has to be sorted out as well. I'm using an extension cord now, and need to figure how to fix it in a more permament and inobtrusive way. It will have to be routed through the foam beyond the mainline, and come up and across to where it's needed. It may take a hook screwed to t he wall to manage that, because of the weight of the cord and plugs.

As you can see, not a lot of light when viewed by the camera. Maybe I'll have to rethink this lighting thing.[V] the minis only cost $2.99[(-D]

The Ghastly white mess has been improved upon, as I said earlier [^]

Grandkids in the offing (OK, Fergie, the're coming by land, so can't be literally in the offing, but you know what I mean [:D]) Better get ready.

Remembering the families and situations you've aske dto be remembered.

Good afternoon everyone, am I beat!![xx(] I didn't know just how bad it was after the changeover to freezing rain yesterday afternoon. We wound up with 7 inches of snow and about a one inch crust of ice on top of everything. The snow blower was useless. I had to use an ice scraper to slide down to the driveway surface to break up the mess. This is "savage amusement". The temp got up to 35 today, so all the ice is off the trees, which is good because we have another 6+ inches coming Saturday.

Fergie, did you hear that? Another storm headed your way Saturday night into Sunday!

Where is the eggnog and Captain Morgan? Ed, did you drink it all ??

I managed to get more 2x4's for the construction of the train room, and basement walls are painted with moisture preventer, and the floor is now painted. I needed a fan in the room so I didn't pass out

I have added all those in need of prayers to my growing list, it has been very tough for many of us this past year.

Jim, keep and eye on that HD, mine crahed 6 months ago, but not until I had all my data removed to CD's. You don't want to lose all your data, that is a royal PITA!!

Coffee's ready see you guys later tonight,

Good Afternoon All:

Tim:
My son lives in Anahiem and when he called today he was upset about all of the predicted rain. His comment " these Californiaens in the rain are just like Texans in the snow - they don't know how to drive and go sliding all over the place." We can handle the rain but snow is our downfall as we only see it about every 10 to 15 years.

Fergie:
Surely Lisa didn't make everyone else wait until you and I got through talking. The way we ramble, that could be a long time.

Ed:
Glad that you found us

I've got to get back to work so I'll see ya'll later

Paul, SHHHHHHH!!!!! I don't want the IRS or any one else for that matter to know my get-rich-quick scheme! No, wait, I didn't say that, no one here heard that! You all are imagining things!

Well, It's friday, and after 3:00 I technically start my weekend. Sooooooo, I'm on my weekend! I got my February MR and Trains done, and both are very good this much. I especially like the paperwork article in MR, but am having problems with the downloading of the work off the site. I may have to give Bergie an e-mail, as I don't think it's my computer, it's the download source.

I got that building to work on this weekend too, so I am pretty much have my weekend full. I guess I'll get going though, I'll see all of you tommarrow.

Go to Google, and enter under business news, then, in the search box type Lionel, Bankrupt. There is a very interesting article on Lionel. They had a better year in 2004 than 2003, and the feeling is they will make it. But, this article is dated late last year.

Uh, hate to seem even stupider than I already do, but what's Dept 56??

But anyway, since you already brought it up, How about them Red Sox !!!

You'll note that I haven't mentioned my NY Giants in quite a while. I guess God has a way of evening things out in the end. The misery caused by the Giants this year almost equaled the ecstasy provided by the Red Sox. After opening 5-2, the Giants (more correctly called 'midgets') dropped 8 straight, most of those against teams with losing records. They were in position to lose number 9, when they woke up and made a miracle comeback against the Cowboys in the last regular season game. By doing so they probably knocked themselves out of a great position to choose first in the draft.

QUOTE: ... the doc also did the rigid digit test....
After reading grayfox's post yesterday where he only spoke of the two blood tests I was almost thinking I'd get it checked at my next physical. Guess not. [xx(]

Jim:
Could you send me an e-mail so I can get your e-mail address, I have a God-related e-mail I think you'd like to read, and maybe you'd know how to post it on the Coffee Shop.[:)]

SNoah:
You're at it again, it's snoahing as I type this.[;)]

This long time without a layout is giving me a lot of thinking time...

Now I've got another idea for a (freelanced) model railroad: The Dearborn & Midwestern, which will own the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton, which with both still be owned by Ford Motor Co. to move the massive amounts of raw material and half-assembled products the company needs to move around the Midwest and Canada. The line will be a 6,000-10,000 mile road with mainlines between Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Milwaukee, St. Paul/Minneapolis, Cincinatti, Toledo, Omaha, Kansas City, Pittsburg, and Buffalo. It will also have a huge amount of dual trackage, and many interchanges with the CB&Q and/or Wabash. One of the reasons the road will be able to survive in the states dominated by the big eastern roads will be that it had trains (both freight and pass.) that run right through Chicago, and it moved freight very fast.

It will be set between 1945 and the late 1950's, so I can have steam locomotives and F-units alongside early hood units. The road will also have quite a few FM's and Alcos, but some EMD products as well.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Posting two days in a row. I'm on a roll here. Another (very) warm day down south of the border. [8D] I’ve got all the fans blowing, trying to resist turning on the a/c. At least the sun has gone down now so it’s cooling off a bit.

I see that a good number of you up in the northern tier and beyond are getting hit again. I do feel for you. iirc, it’s been around 15 years since the last chance I had to shovel any snow. And that was on a visit, not something regular. But when I lived up in Ft McMurray, Alberta I guess I got enough opportunities to last me a few years.

No problem. One of the two main sources of revenue for the FCVN is fruit hauling. Of course, I’m not sure we can get them past the Dept of Ag checkpoint at the border, but we’ll see. Jim was asking for some also. We're trying to smuggle his tanker full of juice up disguised as a tank of Tequila (no problem with Ag inspection on that stuff).

QUOTE: Kolja94: …Anacortes supposedly has 4 inches of snow…
I was up there a couple of years ago when they got 2-3 inches one morning. The locals were freaking out as they claimed they almost never got snow that stuck. We had to drive up to Bellingham that morning. Luckily I just got to ride along and sleep.

I think I’m down to only a couple of spots where the track really needs to be reworked. I’ll see if I can get motivated enough to work on them this weekend. Of course, I need to make time for some golf, I'll probably go downtown tomorrow afternoon and shoot some pool with my F-I-L, then there are my naps to work in, we’ll see. [swg]

Catch you guys later,

Ed

Noah; What get rich quick scheme? Shoveling snoah never struck me as a get rich quick scheme.

Fergie; It's the combination of wind and wet damp that gets me these days. It just goes right to my bones. It always seems warmer to me when it snows.

Tom; Every so often my knees will just ach like crazy. I'm sure that its the arthrites. It pases though.

I went through the prostrate cancer scare last year. It turned out that I had an infection. Everything checked out OK after a month of treatment. My urologest gave me several of the finger tests and OH BOY. He's an O gauge modeler so I might have expected as much.

Today it started out cold, 26f . By this afternoon it was 63f. Maybe thats why we keep getting the sniffells.

It's off to bed now and I've got a head ach.
