Tom : thanks for the backing on Dremel wheels. I think if there was a contest to see who could send wheel shrapnel the furthest I'd be a serious contender. I tend to be on the aggressive side but take the neccesary precautions, including keeping the kids away.

Good latte morning coffee shop dwellers [:D]
I had a whole post ready to go, and inadvertently went to www.smiliegenerator.com to add the above smile, without getting a fresh page. So all that post is toast, and now the forum smilies don't want to click into the reply frame on "quick reply". So, I'll cut and paste this into the "reply to topic" frame, and see if the smilies from there will work.[xx(][B)][V] Which, as you see is the case[^]

I was able to make the train show video yesterday. One good thing about XP, Sterling, is the Video Maker Wizard. Very user friendly, and lots of effects.

Bob, looks like you have another tea lover in Sterling.

Scott, I would be wary of using a steam locomotive chuff to phase-canncel the residual turbine whine harmonics. You will recall what Bob had to say about the number of chuffs / revolution. What if you get a locomotive with an internal third cylinder? I'd stick to diesel, but I'll leave the type and distance up to you. [(-D]

BTW, where did all those extra quotes come from? Did I miss a whole bunch of pages between 168 and 169? Maybe I should get out more [:o)]

Hope you all have an enjoyable holiday, see you later.

Well, Well, learn something every day! I found I was able to recover this original post by going "back" in the smiliegenerator page. Not only that, but the smiles work! [^][yeah]
So, here it is, sorry for repeats, but count this as the director's cut [(-D]

Good stormy foggy morning to all: Bob, sounds like you have another tea lover over in Florida.
Sterling: I've had no trouble to date with the forum smilies. I run Norton Anti-Virus (I'm on Netscape, so it's compatible).

Jim: Sorry to hear about the tree. Bad enough that they blow down, without having people cut them down with no discussion. Still, knowing you, you'll by-pass Sterling's suggested action, and turn the whole thing for the good.
BTW, did I miss a whole lot of pages between 168 and 169? Where did all those other quotes come from? Maybe I should get out more! [:O][(-D]

Scott: I'd be wary of trying to phase-canncel the turbine whine with steam chuff. You will re-call what Bob had to say about the numbers of chuffs/revolution being linked to the number of cylinders. What if you run into one of those locomotives that have an internal third cylinder?[:-,][(-D] So, stick to diesel for this fix! Now, how close, to what type, is up to you! [{(-_-)}][(-D]
On the sheet of plywood layout thing, my first was on the back of a 4x8 ply sheet that our church used as a sign for the annual chicken BBQ fundraiser. They stored it in the Manse garage, and so it was handy [:P] Only trouble was having to clear it for use as a sign. But then we moved, and it was no longer an issue.
Come to think of it, the Alco unit I mentioned a while back was a C630 from the original train set that the layout was built to expand on. It's still around here, as I gave it to our friend and neighbour Gerald (He came with me on Bob's visit, Fergie) when I became Normal! By then , it had obtained a twin, so now he has them both.[^]

Sterling: On the XP thing, once you've got past the virus issues, there are one or two useful features. I've just made a video using the video maker wizard, and it truly is...wizard, that is. [(-D] Very user friendly, and a Help section that actually is.
That was yesterday's project folks, maybe some foam today.....

Lupo and Lawrence have done us all fine with the Thanksgiving smilies, thanks fellas.
Have a great day, and indeed there's much for which to give thanks to God.

Hey everyone!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Almost time for food here in the real world. We are saving a turkey or two this year, by eating chicken. Chik-Fil-A would be proud[:D].

As for my layout, which will be on the pool table, will be N scale, so I'll have a nice sized railroad. I haven't settled on the exact dimensions yet, but it will come soon enough. As long as I have space to have a good sized train running, passing by a few houses, an industry or two, and through a tunnel, I'll be happy. Lack of money prevents me from going to DCC. It's not permanent, so I won't even think about that now.

Paul, problem is is I'm a goer. I like to go places. I did manage to stay off it most of the time today, and it's healing fairly well I think.

Sterling1, I'm from Wisconsin.

Flip, I do belive your right, that the number is 180. That's why my cousin near Madison gets more days off but usually goes later into June than I do. I like it the way we have, it more continuious time off.

Fergie, I don't know what Paul is, but I'm a ferroequinologist and a microferroequinologist.(anybody care to guess, or know?)

jwaldo, that is nice! It looks much better when the pictures is blown up too. I like it alot. you did a good job on it.

Well, I hope everyone's had a happy Thanksgiving Day today, I know I did. I got to go down to my aunt's near Madison, and I had alot of fun. Problem is.... No trains today[:(]... Or I should say so far. The WSOR's MALPM's normal night is tonight, and I think it'll be running, so I hope to catch it tonight.

I am also unveiling my new preliminary logo for the ARK. Let me know what you think. The slogan may change, but that's the basics. Thanks to Dave Howarth Jr for the use of his gifs.

Like I said, let me know what you think of it. It only took about an hour using the Paint program. Well, I'm off to other things, so see you all tomarrow.

Coffee Shoppers,

Thanksgiving Day is winding down. The Colts won! The Bears are getting embarassed (imagine that!?!). We had a great family dinner, which moves one to reflect on just how good things are. We have family, ample food, freedom, and, within that freedom, the ability to model our visions of the world. We are truly blessed.

And to top it off, good coffee, friends, and conversation (even if the food here is lousy). [^]

Good Evening All:

I can't believe how prolific ya'll have been. I had to get the bird ready and then the sister-in-law and I worked on the other things and finally everybody went to bed after an hour of conversation. I got up several times during the night to be sure that the bird was comming along OK.

We had sixteen people over for lunch and it was hectic but FUN. Now everyone has gone except Stephanie, mom and me. The piece and quite sure is nice.

Now I'm full, fat, and sleepy. To top it off the COWBOYS won, of course they were playing the Bears.

Flip:
Don't believe Fergie. A snow fence is to keep the snow from leaving the yard and getting lost, because then it ends up in the snow pile and if it isn't adopted it has to go to the meltdown area and be put in the ground.

I very much enjoyed your "shocking pictures" and sent them to several people. I wi***hat the news would show them but then their not the right kind of shocking.

Fergie:
How is the DCC comming along. You haven't ask any questions yet so I assume that you haven't progressed very far. What locos are you going to put those decoders in? How is the Berk doing?

Sterling1:
Why kind of tea do you drink, I'm into spice tea especially a couple of cups of mint in the morning.

Well I'm off to bed and enjoy this turkey.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all

In honour of the special day, I recall the words of a barely known song by a couple of folk / rock ? guys named Salmond & Mulder (late 70's, early 80's) --- sing it with me now...(roughly quoting, without all the " s to slow me down... kind of an echo-effect is used)

The Turkey Song:

If God can love TURKEYS,
God can love you... ;
You are a TURKEY,
but I am one too;
So if you're lonely (waaaaaaaooooooooooooo)
or...., if you're blue (wa,aaaa, aaa, oooooooooooo)
just remember friend,
if God can love TURKEYS ... (and surely he can !)
God can Love You !!!
you TURKEY, you
gobble it up....

[dinner]

and for TrainFreak who isn't eating turkey today, I dug up an old stand-by, goes likes this...

de,de,de,de,de,de,de (de,de,de,de,de,de,de)
de,de,de,de,de,de,de ...DE,DE,DE,DE !!!
de,de,de,de,de,de,de (de,de,de,de,de,de,de)
de,de,de,de,de,de,de ... DE,DE,DE,DE,

de,de,de,de,de,de,de (de,de,de,de,de,de,de)
de,de,de,de,de,de,de ...DE,DE,DE,DE !!!
de,de,de,de,de,de,de (de,de,de,de,de,de,de)
de,de,de,de,de,de,de ... DE,DE,DE,DE..........

..... DUHhhh, DUH, DUH .. DUH, DUH, DUHh;
DUH, DUH, DUH, DUHhhhh ... DUH, DUH... DUH, DUH... DUH
DUH, DUH, DUH, DUH ... DUH, DUH ... DUH, DUH... DUH
DUH, DUH... DUH, DUH .... DUH, DUH, DUH, DUH, DUH ... DUH...

(repeat all... sounds like chicken...) [dinner]

Have a great evening all !!!

cheers, krump

Noah you have me stumped. my only guess would be something to do with iron and now that I'm deseminating I would have to say this

ferro= Iron; equin=Horse; ologist=Xspurt and a micro=itty bitty, teensie weensie.
So you're a itty bitty, teensie weensie Ironhorse Xspurt.
Impressive, very impressive[^] Where did you study old boy?

Very good Noah, I had to think about this one.[bow]

Teffy: I here the cost of natural gas has gone down today on the world market as Texas has flooded the market, tell me you didn't have anything to do with it! I never though of turkey being an alternative energy source, That's a lot of chuffing.

As to the DCC. I haven't had a chance to even look at it yet. I want to make sure I have it right and have the time and energy to do it. Both of which I have been short of. Speaking of shorts I have a ground on the main line that I haven't been able to pinpoint as of yet, so I suspect I will be pulling apart the wires this weekend.

I will outfit the Berkshire first, then it's a toss up between the Allegheny, Mikado, FEF-3 and PFE Consolidated. I think I'll be ordering another two DH123's come January. Once I paint the Consolidated I'll put a Soundtraxx in her.

The proofs for the decals came in so I've been reviewing these the last couple of days before I give my final approval.

Phil: Sorry I haven't responded to you yet but not to worry your next on my "next to do" list.

I figured we must of had 2" of rain yesterday. I was able to get the van serviced and a couple of other things done.

Regards
Fergie

Teffy- Re-previous question about going to Dans open house- Took my car in for brake check. Bad m/cyl. Parts + labor-$460. So much for trains this month. Oh well, don't NEED more, just have a want list. I've done without in the past, I'll do without now. As the saying goes- SS-DD. You know what that means.

Good Morning All:

I'm still full and don't even feel like eating breakfast this morning, but the tea is still good. I need the tea to get my eyes open. The house is slooooowly getting picked up. It may take a couple of days to get it all back in place.

Saturday is going to be open house at the guy's house that I go to on Tuesday and also we're going to have the club layout on display at the treasure's house on Sat and Sun. So this weekend is going to be a good weekend for me. I'll take some cars and a couple of locos. Everyone else brings double stacks - how can you justify pulling double stacks with a steam engine? I take the PS-4 and some Southern pass cars, and my 2-8-8-2 and about 20 freight cars. At the last show I bought a cardboard box called a train-carrier, I've got it packed and ready to go. It is nice not having to worry about the individual boxes.

Flip:
I haven't gotten anything about coffee but I did receive the "shocking pictures" and the "barns". They both made me feel good.

Fergie:
When I was there, I remember the Allegheny but I don't remember the Berk or the Mikado. Is my memory playing tricks on me? I seem to remember something about a NEW Berk????? Is that what it is and if it is, is it a Proto Van Swarrengen? I've been thinking about one of them because I like that wheel arrangement. I've got several PFM Berks but I've been impressed with the other Proto locos and haven't seen one yet. The LHS has always been out when I got there, but they want me to put one on order. Doesn't the Proto Berk have sound?

You should be happy if the price of gas goes down as that will lower your heating bills wont it? I don't know about the cost of gas, but the cost of gasoline is up to $1.799. (That's not a brag, but rather a complaint.)

Paul:
When are ya'll comming down and goin' slummin' with me. Everyone here is ready to show what we've done, so you'll get the golden tour. When you decide to come maybe we could get Fran to come to Houston and let Ed come play also.

Ed:
If you offer a shopping trip you should be able to come play.

Well I've got to get some heat in the back bedroom and I think it means putting in about 25' of gas pipe. That's going to make for a nice job today.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Bob: I have the C&O Kanawha (Berkshire by any other name) the Mike is an Athearn. Gee I forgot about the Reading Consolidated by Spectrum. I see it will be a busy month for programming.

Personally the Kanawha is a great engine, not as powerful as the FEF-3 or Allegheny but it will haul 20+ cars up my mainline grades with little effort.

My P2K just came with the DCC plug in. I think as we go along we will see more and more manufactures that will give the buyer the option of sound/DCC/combined/neither.

Fergie, I actually got the idea from another forum member over on the TRAIN's side, tree68(Larry). You were very good at disecting that though.... And by the way, I did one of those mail order courses........

Krump, the De de one wouldn't be from Carnival of the Animal's, a classical musical peice would it? We had to do that in 5th grade a few years ago and the words fit the tune....

Well, I got to go over to my Dad's hometown of Hillsboro WI (tiny town of about 1200), and got to do a little in the field and book research about the 5 miles shortline, the hillsboro and Northeasern railway. The former main line is now a bike path, and the old engine house still exists, but I couldn't find it in the little time I had. I should explain, the Hillsboro and Northeastern was a five mile shortline started in 1903, connecting with the CNW's 400 route, to provide the people of Hillsboro with rail access. It ran passenger service till 1936, using a railbus, the first ever, for a short time. It ran strong with frieght until the late seventies when it only was used a few times a month. Then it was enbargoed in 1985, and when the CNW abandoned everything past Reedsburg in 1987, the line was torn out too. I also did some resaerch at the local library in Hillsboro, and found a little on the railroad. I'd like to model it on a 2x10 shelf layout someday, so I'm busy gather information for later.

I also got to stop at the train shop in Elroy, you might have seen them advertise in MR, and picked up a car, Great Model Railroad 2005, and a kadee coupler heigth gauge. So I've had a good day so far. I better keep on a moving I guess, as I have a few other things to do yet.

This is where I recently took pics of the 3985 (which I thought were pretty good, right Lupo and Noah, but appearantely Bergie doesn't think so as the 18 pics I send him have NOT made "Photo Of The Day"--not even one of them [:(] [V] [:(!] )

Everyone have a good day. [8D]

Why Locust?
"There is nothing in life that compares with running a locomotive at 80-plus mph with the windows open, the traction motors screaming, the air horns fighting the rush of incoming air to make any sound at all, automobiles on adjacent highways trying and failing to catch up with you, and the unmistakable presence of raw power. You ride with fear in the pit of your stomach knowing you do not really have control of this beast." - D.C. Battle [Trains 10/2002 issue, p74.]

Quick question:

I know Cannon makes a brass tread pattern and steps for an Athearn GP40-2, but is there someone that makes them for a GP60?

Oh I'm Not Happy!!

Did you remember Jamie's post on the septic system going for a dump! Well I had a royal Flu***his afternoon along the lines of......

"Yes I would like to report the theft of two Mountain Bikes....."

I hope certain individuals meet their demise while riding said bikes!!!
