I really liked all of Poe's work. And I still prefer his work to the type of 'horror' story that's common today. Wow, Paul, two train shows in two weekends???!!! (Ed turns green with envy [:P])

Yeah they are small. Look at it this way, it saves a lot on superdetailing!! Last week twhite (Tom) posted this in the "Where do the old trains go" thread. Someone was talking about the lack of detail on old cars and why you wouldn't be using them with your newer models. Tom said: But then I keep my magnifying glass on the coffee table to help me read the small print in the classifieds, not to look at my trains. I thought it was a great line.

With your son building the G scale outdoor setup it sounds like you'll have the best of both worlds. And you can go play on it anytime you want.

Yes, a really dry sherry would do just fine. However, I asked for Harvey's Bristol Cream when my brother visited from the UK in September. Quite the opposite, but in a class on its own.

Looks like there may be some Nearly Invisible goodies to be had @ the LHS on Monday. Thanks for the heads up Fergie. George says the second box of Normal stuff he's negotiating for is better than the first. It may be like a train show all on it's own. Then the next weekend it's the Dartmouth show. I'll feel like Paul, and Ed will be even greener!

Good Morning All:

It's been a hectic week - Mrs "T" is the executrix of an aunt's estate and all of the heirs are feuding. I'm just about ready to tell all of them to go to Hell!!!! We were the only ones that would take her in after she got out of the hospital (she was an old maid and very cranky) but the three of us got along pretty good. Mrs "T" was named hr sole benificery (SP-Ed) of her $6,000.00 life insurance policy and after burial expenses their wasn't much left but the heirs think it should be devided between them. BULLCRAP.

As you can tell I'm not in a good mood today but I do get to build some layout framework today. I'm building a stand for Mrs"T"'s hydroponic tray. She's wanted to do this for several years and when we were just in Canada I saw a sign that said "Hydroponices". I should have kept going but dumb me stopped and turned around. Four hundred dollars later the man said "thank you" and we drove off. This stand is going to be built just like the train support - knee braced off the wall. (See Tom, it works for other things too)

For those of you that haven't seen Tom's layout, we used the same knee brace support system as described in Lynn Westcott's book on benchwork. His is a lot stronger then mine as I used 2X2's and he used 2X4's. BTW Tom, The other night I put some foam on the track and then a piece of plywood and got up on the layout. It supported all 205# with no creaking or movement. Bill might try the 2x2's instead of the 2x4's. They're easier to work with and don't cost as much. I think that the reason Lynn used 2x4's was to CYA because of the range of ability in the hobby.

Paul:
I was looking forward to seeing your layout and hated to cancle the trip. It was a personal trip as we had a Baldwin organ that belonged to my dad and now that Mrs"T" can't play anymore we decided to give it to one of our nephews as he and his wife play. He decided since they are thinking about moving he should get it later, but we're having 22 people over for Thanksgiving and we needed the dining room space. It is now at his mothers and dad's house. It took four of us to move it - it's a full twin keyboard with all of the foot petals.
Being only 62 makes you kinda young, happy birthday.

If I forget just put your finger in my tea. If Ed gets SNOW it will be a sign of the end of the world.

How is the clean-up comming. Some of the roofers and carpenters that went over their are starting to return here and pick up their abandened (Ed - that's misspelled) work. Dave, you said you were self-employed, what do you do.

John and Ed:
I think I like Nearly invisable instead of Normal as it is a better description. How do I put my railimages link in my signature and also the slogan about the Santa Fe so I don't have to type it in all the time?

Jim:
I've been sucessfull at buying "N" scale engines at the shows. I've bought quite a large number of cars. I buy mostly from individuals instead of dealers. If you want an "N" scale layout and to visit us, lets talk price on the one that I've built - it's layout # nine in the Atlas book and it'll fit in the back of your pickup.

Fergie:
Tell Lisa that if she doesn't know what to get you for Christmas just give me a call. I remember when I was in college one of my fraturnity brothers ask me to go look at frat rings with him, to make a long story short, he got the ring I wanted and I got the ring he wanted, so our spying didn't do very good.

DADGUM - I just went to the bathroom and when I flushed the toilet it wont go down and no telling where the plunger is. I just figured out what's wrong with the toilet. This is the one that the "toilet fairy" put in the bus one time when we went to Canada and now that it's snowing up there it refuses to work.

I've heard of an exploding toilet before (Onboard a Training Vessel). Not very pretty especially the girl I knew who was in it when it "burped". It's not like a train where you pull the plug and watch the track go by, for obvious reasons!

Hi Bob, you should go to the top of the page and click on update profile:

there you can edit your signature and put in the links you want and all the text you want to show up at the bottom of your posts, do not forget to enable "show signature" overthere at " Board settings "

Heck, all you guys are reporting train shows coast to coast. And down in Houston they’re celebrating National Model Railroading Month with their annual open house layout tour. I hear they have over 60 layouts open for visits this year. And here I am left out. [:(] Oh well, guess I’ll find a way to get by, sniff, he says while popping the top on a cool Corona and letting the waves lap over his feet…………… More hot sauce on that next batch of shrimp, please. Teffy – adding your railimages link is easy. Click on ‘Profile’ up on the top blue bar. Once you have your profile page up, scroll down and find the two blocks for Signature (one is text only and the other says text and graphics). Then click on preview and it should show the link, probably in red. Now go to the bottom of the edit profile page and click on the button for submit changes or edit profile, or something like that.

Thought you might like to see how the upper tunnel is coming along.


Ed: This is what the 1/2 inch strip is also useful for. The west end of the tunnel will have an access hatch for the turnout and the electronics. one side will rest on the foam at the tunnel mouth, the other on a fixed block of foam that will also support the presently free end of the rremovable roof of the tunnel. This framework will hold that block.


I'm writing this while the glue dries. The photos are not 20 minutes old!

Bob T. Remember the old joke? Where there is a will there are heirs. Boy, have you brought back memories-None good. A great aunt was taken in by my in-laws after saving her property and monies from a nursing home manager. My mom-in-law and her sister have not spoken since the great aunt passed. I want this-I want that,and not doing a darn thing for the aunt.
As to cleaning up, nothing happened here at home. Some neighbors lost trees and had some roof damage. We've been in our home 7 years and knew the roof was old.
We had a contract BEFORE the storms and just had the roof replaced at pre-storm prices. Man upstairs must like us.{At least likes my wife.}
Stopped at lhs 45 miles each way, a Hobby Stores. I have more trains than they do. Waste of time.

I talked to Pennsyduplex (John) today by AOL AIM. He reports they have snow and ice in New Jersey. He also said he fell on the ice and is "hurting".


I made a special trip to the LHS today. I went looking to see what they had in nearly Nothing scale. That is exactly what I found too, NOTHING. It seems that that LHS is GONE. In the words of the Queen song, Another One Bites the Dust. [V]
The next closest one will be about a 2 hour round trip. I think I might just wait now, and stop at Battlefield Station in Springfield, Missouri, when I go visit my parents for Thanksgiving. Actually, I consider IT my LHS anyway. I can think of 5 different engines and two fleets of passenger cars I have bought there. It is a nice large hobby shop and fairly well stocked.

It is a shame to see so many shops closing these days. I guess in the next four years more will probally close. I used to shop online but am kind of afraid to put my credit card number "out there" now.

Well I am going to go to E Bay and see what they have "there" [8D].

Frank Ellison's book ,[ Frank Ellison on Modelrailroads ] printed sometime in the late fiftys or early sixtys and getting hard to find [ next to inpossible ] but if by chance someone has an extra copy laying around and would consister saling it to me for a reasonal price [ less than $50.00 ] it sure would make me happy. Two just sold on ebay for less than twenty five I was told, and around that is a fair price, but for a copy in GOOD CONDITION I would go higher. Waiting to hear from someone I hope.

Can't speak about all of them but a lot of e-tailers are also happy to accept phone orders, of course you have to give them your credit card info over the phone but maybe you'd think that was safer. One had me email my credit card number in two halves in two emails to make it harder to capture. So there are ways of doing it. I also suspect they would be amenable to having you send in a check or money order, subject to a waiting period on the check clearing. So there are ways to take advantage of the good prices on the net.

One other online auction mailed a cheque. Took time to clear, but the package came promptly after that.

Dinner was great [dinner], pork done just right, 3 veggies plus mashed potatoes. (Carrots, peas, mashed turnips [neeps for our Scotish friends]) The gravy tasted great too. It wasn't brown, and it wasn't white, more of a yellow. Lots of everything, and more kinds of dessert......I brought home 2 different carrot cake slices for Mrs.der to enjoy later.
A brisk 20 minutes on the treadmill while watching the last part of the 6:00 ATV news, and a shower, and back to the layout to build more of that "foamhenge" I've been working on. It's been a very pleasant evening. Mrs.der has just announced tea, so I'll call it a day.
