this post is IMHO and [#offtopic]:

for those with limited bandwith:
how slow is your connection anyway?
I tried this forum on 55k dialup speed and it loads OK, only when I limit the speed to 5K it gets slow
OTOH on a broadband connection the forum also loads slow sometimes, but I think that has more to do with the forum software / my ISP / my computer as with the connection speed.

BTW: If you do not want to waste bandwith you could try smoke-signals or jungle-drums, but I doubt if that gets your message around the world.[}:)] !

I like this forum, Something akin to the corner Barber Shop. Which to me means the discussions are varied and yes will get off topic from time to time. Yes agree that some of the Headers if not more discriptive will cause those with dial up more grief and yes I will endeavour to try to be more discriptive.

As for Bandwidth well that's another issue. Yes it may be too broad for some but from what I've seen a lot of us like it that way. As there is more to life than just Trains, More to life than counting rivets and more to life then......YOU KNOW

Some should get off their High Horses and find another rainbow to park on instead of trying to dictate to the rest of us on how we should conduct business or how we should spell. I have no time for purists who feel they are above the rest of us.

Bandwidth is dictated by the moderators, administrators and majority of users. So if you don't like the content find somewhere else to get a hair cut!
And if someone is wondering where this is coming from it's because a certain someone has made comments in the past regarding bandwidth that were curt and rather pointed and in my opinion rude and out of place.

This is a fun place to be without the sand box bullies.

IMHO: moderation could easily turn into censorship, and might we all agree that we do not like THAT

I think the forum administrators do a very good job right now.
and the forum must like MY posts, because evertime I post I get the message :
[:D][:D] thank you for your contribution! [:D][:D]

I am dial-up also. Live where DSL or other is not available. Just loading this forum can take a minute or so. I agree, I hate wasting my time, thinking I should be going to something I'll find interesting, only to find the title is not what you think! I find it interesting the threads I have the least interest in can be the most popular! What's up with me?

Oops, sorry for shouting. I was trying to say it nicely, but you hit the nail on the head!

Thanks!

It also might be an idea for posters to spell check their titles as well as their message before posting. I've scanned the posting titles and have found many spelling errors.

Another recent message suggests using the forum search capability to find some subjects. If the subjects are incorrectly spelled, then they won't show up!

There are also way too many irrelevant postings such as "What is your favorite/worst locomotive", etc. What a waste of bandwidth!

Just my two cents worth.

Titles can work both ways. There's one on the board right now, several pages, that's "What is Your Age?" Now I don't really care how old any of you folks are, or why it would matter to anyone else (Just an example, don't get upset). So I know I can ignore that thread. The good threads are pretty easy to find. I've learned a lot.

All ribbing aside, N2Mopac does have a valid point. It's an easy compromise in that the enthusiastic Topic Posters can put a:

"Wow!", "Cool!", "KaSlam!", " Oh No!", "WHY?", "CAN THIS BE REAL?!", HAPPY ABOUT...!"I'M UPSET ABOUT...!", THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE!", "CAR 54 WHERE ARE YOU?"[:p][swg][swg] [:0][:p][8D]

before or after a 2 to 4 word descriptive title. Would pretty much cover all bases..........................I hope! [;)][:D][8D][:)][:p][:p]

Peace and Cheers, Amigos!

"Descriptive Forum Topic Titles Needed" would have been much more informative than "Forum Topic Titles". I opened the thread expecting to find a list of the best titles you had seen while browsing the forums. [;)][:P][;)]

P.S. Anyone wanna buy me a margarita? [:D]

Hey All!

Yes I agree. Being a moderator on other discussion sites we have everything broken down....we also limit and prune the forums weekely... non used forums get deleted after so many days/weeks/months and being familiar with the software Model Railroader/ Trains.com uses for its forum site this can be done in the same manner.....the thing is this.....Trains.com computer staff more than likely has their stuff outsourced to a third party company OR they do not feel it is necassary to moderate and do regular upkeep on the forums. And to the general public reading alot of us have dsl/cable *me being one* doesn't have a load issue how ever my friends who are still on dial-up are in areas where cable/dsl is still not provided *imagine that* this is something trains.com needs to take into consideration. There...spoke my two cents worth have a great day!!

Another idea would be to subdivide the General Discussion into three or four more focused headings. Have the "how much, how many" category, one specifically for locomotive discussion, etc. That would allow you to further refine your viewings and not waste your precious dial-up time.

I think the topic should be direct and to the point but it should also grab your attention...what you might not be interested in may interest others...may i suggest that you spend the moola on DSL and life may get better...chill out...your stress levels gonna stop your heart if you continue to get upset over topic titles....Jesus loves you man...it's gonna be alright
