Paint Color for a NJT Comet V cabcar
Posted by NJT on Saturday, April 18, 2009 12:57 PM

Hi all! I am painting a NJT Comet V Cab car and I was wondering what paint color I should use for it. I am thinking about using a Platnum Mist color, but im not sure.

Thanks for your help

 Hi Tony,

The modern Comets are sharp looking railcars:

I'm not certain if those French built Alstom Comets have aluminum or stainless steel bodies. Might be good to research that first.  Afterwards, you could consider using the Alclad II paint metalizing products. Colors in Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Chrome are available.  Just below are links to the two threads in which I used it

It costs a little more money than using the typical modelers paints, but when applied properly the results are quite impressive and close to the prototyes.  I'm very excited about passenger car metalizing and have been trying to encourage modelers to try it.  IMHO, it beats the bare metal foil system by a huge leap.Wink

If you don't wish to take the Alclad route,  platinum mist is not to far off the base but, imho, the overall match to the prototype isn't quite the same.

A cheaper metalizer paint route that produces decent results is Testors Metalizers.

HobbyTown USA usually carries Alclad and Testors products.

Hope this helps!

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
