Good morning. TGIF! It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be in the low 80's and it will be partly cloudy. Yesterday I put new lights in the Ace Hardware and Jimmy's Barber Shop structures. This required taking the buildings apart to get at the old lights. I put two lights in each. One to light the first floor and the other to light the second and third floor windows. I then carefully reassembled the buildings, dust them with white chalk as I went along to bring up the mortar lines. Too many small spaces for the paint routine. Later this morning I have to go see the foot doc again so he can poke and prod my feet some more. I took steps last night to acquire another KCS 'Southern Belle' hopper from another modeler. The final details should be worked out today. Boys from the elevator showed up yesterday with the shop truck to help move the freezer from moms house. Truck has a lift gate so I was glad to see them! The Church is all set up for the "dollar dinner" so it's me gonna mow the yard and clean up the freezer a bit more before swapping it out in the house. I have to take down a shelf first. If I'm lucky I might get some layout time today but it doesn't look that way right now.
I did change my plan a bit in one of my sit and stare sessions to work out this direction issue I've been having. (gotta figure out how to show this without looking like a monkey drew it) I moved the staging to the other, um, "end" I guess you'd call it, and decided to make a small yard. The original planned siding will now be an oil refinery or fuel transfer, or something along those lines. It depends on the amount of space I have when I get the bench work up. I've also decided, and I will only dare bring this up in the Diner, that in Toddland (of which I'm King), even though I'm in modern somewhat current times, cattle are still moved by rail. It seems more efficient, I like the idea, I like cows, and I want to. So there.

Zoe I'll have a short stack of sourdough pancakes with some NYS Maple Syrup to go along with my cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug this morning.
I was just getting ready to pop in here and say howdy last night when there was a knock at my door. It was a fellow Scouter who is the commissioner for a handicapped Scout Troop and Pack. He has been trying to get the leadership up to par in giving the young men in the unit a real Scouting experience. He had some successes he wanted to share and also wanted to bounce a couple of ideas off me. I may be offering the troop Railroading Merit Badge. I think several of them would interested in it and with some extra work on the part of the parents and myself we could be successful doing it. There are several types of handicapping conditions represented in the Troop. Autism and Developmental Disabilities being the most severe. They are all great young people to work with and most are 20 or older. (In Scouting today there is no age limit for a scouts with disabilities.)
Anyway I finally kicked him out of the house at 1AM..... So I am a bit late getting breakfast this morning.
Have a doctors appointment early this afternoon (Gastroenterologist). Yep time for the roto-rooter job..... That should be scheduled for early July as that is the first time My son can take me to it and bring me back home and babysit me for the better part of the day....... Then I have to pick up the MLK Scholarship applications at the 2 High Schools in town. After that, taking a look at my lawn, I think I may try out the new Black and Decker cordless mower I got a few weeks back and see how it does. For some reason my lawn is twice as high as everyone else's on the street so I don't think I can keep me record of being the last to mow my lawn going......
Currently 59°F with a high of 74°F this afternoon. Time open up some windows and let fresh air into the house. The weather people are predicting 82°F here for tomorrow. That's too hot for my liking! I prefer high 60s to low 70s.Hope you all have a fine day!

Spent some time in the train room last night moving buildings around the wife's (HO) layout. Still not happy with the layout of the town. Adding a drive-in movie theater and 2 or 3 more houses, it's going to be cramped. Hey, that is what she wants so that is what she shall have. (((Perhaps she has the Todd Complex..."change this, change that"?)))
It's in the 80's here and the wife is helping her folks today, so it's a good time to try rearranging buildings once again. Or perhaps I'll take a break from wife's HO and work on my N. Haven't done squat on my layout in awhile now.

Good afternoon to all, just dropped in to have some clam chowder and the last piece of Strawberry-Rhubarb pie and ice cream.
The huge Maple tree is finally all split into cord wood, now I have to start on the other trees. Not much time to get this all done as the grass has really sprout up after all the rain this month and now temps in the 70's today and 80's tomorrow. Clear skies right through next Tuesday.
I see the '44 diesels are now out but they didn't do a NYC or a B&A which were two of the very first RR's to buy the them. They do have a MEC which is rather strange because the B&M would have had them first and they didn't have that model offered yet either. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?? So I either wait for them to offer those roads, or, buy an undecorated model and do my own paint job for the B&A.
CNCHARLIE: More snow and cold up your way? I saw the weather channel this noontime and North Dakota was getting more snow, man, what a winter season this has been in the upper midwest!! The rail line are flooded or just passable?

(Wife's HO layout) Update: After some discussion, she has decided to sell off a few of her older western looking buildings and replace them with newer, taller city buildings. Also placed a cut-out representing that Municipal Building "Hospital". So, just need to figure out a corner or two and I'm good to go on the road construction. Feeling a little better now about the work ahead.

I see my post from earlier evaporated into the thin nether regions of the 'net. I usually copy before I post, but the one time I don't....
Went to Dr. yesterday to discuss why my arms/hands numb all the time. Sometimes at best just tingling, usually pins and needles, frequently like hitting you funny bone {when I haven't} and sometimes so numb I could chew my finger off and not even know it. Getting worse as time goes by. A few years ago he had me starting to wear wrist braces, but they seemed to make matters worse so I stopped wearing them. We are of course investingating carpel tunel with neurologist soon. It's not just my hands, but my whole arms up to just below shoulder. Only if my arms are out straight do I get some relief to the tingle stage. Anything else, or with arms bent I have the other problems.
Getting an itch to plant things now that the plant venues are opening up around here. Not sure what I plant this year, but not a "franken-mato" grape tomato like last year that grew over the pond, and every other plant in the front of the house including growing over the front of the house! SOme of you will remember.... My blueberry plants didn't survive very well being overgrown by franken-mato, I fear. They only have few buds on them.
This year I don't know what to plant, flowers are ok, but I like to plant things I can eat also. Lettus greens will go in soon. It loves the cool spring, and lasts into summer. We love fresh greens for salad from the garden.
MIL wants a plant that blows this time of year and lasts til fall, but no such outdoors animal for this zone. Certain Geraniums will bloom late spring til fall, but that's about it.
A/C turned on in LR. Later will install BR A/C in window as supposed to be 85* here over the weekend. And my O2 machine puts out huge amounts of heat. I had planned to get them up the first weekend in May any way. There is one more for the middle BR {affectionately called the Junk room, storage room, train room} , but I have to find the room, find the layout and move it to install that A/C. perhaps tomorrow. UGH! Not looking forward to a summer of heat and high A/C bills.....

The two Forsythias in the back yard have also started to come out--. And down the street we are starting to get all the Magnolias coming out--all 8 of 'em

Building a protolanced industrial park layout
Hey all.
I had to take one of my dogs to the vet today because he is really ill. He's not his usual hungry and hyper self. He's lost at least 20 pounds and is looking really thin and pale. I checked him and all of his lymph nodes were swollen up pretty bad. Right now we don't know what it is, but the bloodwork will come in on moday. Hope it's nothing too serious or contagious (I have 2 dogs).
I managed to get some MRRing in today.I weathered my PC hopper. Granted it could probably be rustier and dirtier.(bad PC joke)the roof, which kind of got overdid. On camera it looks alright though.
Here's the bulkhead flat I got. Now I need to figure out what load to put on it.

All this talk of gardens and lawns................ There goes the hobby time. In between other things I had to get done today, I decided to mow my lawn for the first time this year as it was already 4 to 6 inches tall in places. This is the first year since I moved here (25 years ago) that I have had the stigma of being the first to mow his lawn in the Spring! Nobody else right around me had yet to mow and their lawns really don't need it. So why is mine growing faster than the rest? I don't rake in the Fall. I don't believe on ever using fertilizer or weed killers, or bug killer chemicals on my lawn........ So why is mine the greenest on the block? I must be doing something wrong! Anyway the new battery powered Electric performed very well. Ultra quiet compared to the gas rotary. Did about 4/5ths of my lawn before4 running out of power. That is fine by me as I most generally mow half the lawn at a time (Half of my lawn and I am ready for a nap!). Sold my one year old gas mower to a lady in my church who is also a member of the MLK Committee. While she works full time, she has trouble making ends meet at times and her old mower is on its last legs (Literally, one of the wheels fell off it last fall). So she got a bargain, and I can feel good about helping out someone who is always there for others herself!
Quick appointment at the Doctors. Have the colonoscopy scheduled for early July (First day my son can take me to the procedure). An interesting change in the way they do things. The last time they had me stop taking aspirin 2 weeks before having it. This time they said keep taking the aspirin. I asked why the change? Seems that there is a higher risk of going off the aspirin resulting in heart attacks than the risk of bleeding from the aspirin........ I don't take the aspirin for my heart, but to counter the side effects of Niacin that I take for high triglycerides.
Get to spend some time in the train room as soon as I post this, so I catch you all later.
***Vincent, crossing my fingers & toes for your dog. That doesn't sound so good. Hopefully it's something that can be taken care of easily.
Here is a pic of the wife's latest (HO) layout design. I went ahead and cut out the tar paper. Bricks are just there to keep it from rolling while I took the pic. And yes, the culdesac will be rounded. Maybe she won't make anymore changes! I'll mix up the "goop" and coat the tar paper in the next day or two outside, then in about a week I can pick out some pot holes and glue it in place on the layout. If I can get one of those pens I'll pre-line it, too. Oh, I'll be burrying that "drive-in theater screen" with the parking area all set up on a removable board. This way, we can swap out movies depending on who is visiting.

Vincent- Sorry about your dog. It doesn't sound good. The hopper looks good. Yeah, most are a lot grungier than that, but I myself like to just lightly weather a car. Really I have this tendency to over do it so I just stop after I get the trucks toned down. Something I'll work on later. I'd rather have a newish looking car than what I do to them.
There are now two pets/members of our extended families that are in my prayers.
Rob- I've never had a disease named after me. I'm honored. Layout's looking good by the way.
Ray- Unfortunately for me, my perfect wife does not, and never did, take the pride that I did in being the last to mow my yard. I lost that dubious honor last year actually. I know how you feel when you lose something like that. Fortunately for me I did not have to suffer like you and be the first to mow. I know it feels like there is nothing left, but trust me, after awhile you'll feel better. Hopefully the new mower helped ease your sorrow. My thoughts are with you.
G- When I was in the "let's find out what's wrong" stage with my list of ailments. One of the things I had was similar to what you speak of. The checked me for carpel tunnel and the therapist also went up to my elbow and also my shoulder. He claims that most specialists only check for Carpal Tunnel in the wrist, which mine did, but you can also have it in you elbows and shoulders. (?) I did not, my problem was in my vertebrae, and it has been 5+ years so I don't recall if it is actually called Carpal Tunnel (which somehow I don't think so) or if he said "something like" or "the same thing as". Anyway something to keep in mind.
Went over to my sister's place for bit earlier to visit with her. My niece's great dane puppy is almost as big as her pit bull. Won't be much longer before the dane is stepping over him! Been using some free time today to work on the layout some.

Very sunny, very windy, and 86 hot, humid degrees today...so naturally, this being Iowa...THUNDERSTORMS tonight with rain/storms all weekend long.

Flip-flops or sneakers just ain't gonna cut it for that kind of clean-up work. As a long-time local TV legend (Dr. Max on WMT TV) used to say around here: "Take it easy, play it safe, and be careful."
I see guys are talking about mowing... I'm close to being the last to mow, at least this time. My grass chopper is in the shop. I hit something last fall, now it vibrates very, very badly and sounds like an old Mack fire truck. Mower guy was thinking bent shaft. Time (and money) will tell, I'm sure.
Maybe I'll just let the yard go, and burn it off later...

Long week... no newspaper work this weekend, maybe I can do some kinda RR stuff. I need to chop 40 little, tiny, insanely small styrene triangles to go on an Accurail 41' gon. I'm adding bits, and pieces, and stuff to it so it looks like an older CNW car. Right now, there are at least fourteen different projects waiting for: parts, or decals, or Dullcote, or... something. Can't finish one project? Start another...until you run out of stuff for it too.

Well so much for cleaning up the yard this week-end. The high tomorrow is 11C or about 50F and 8 on Sunday. It will be a long time before I have to get out the lawnmower. We have an electric too, a Gardena electric reel mower. It is great for a small yard, cuts well and is so quiet you can easily talk without raising your voice to be heard.
Dick, we aren't supposed to get snow but it won't warm up until the end of next week. And yes the rail lines are submerged so no traffic. In fact the flood water is 6 feet deep in many places near where the tracks run.
Well I have to go as Pippa wants her lap which of course is mine but she thinks she owns it. On second thought maybe she does as I always seem to give in.

I suspected it was about that time when I went into that JC Nickles' store (the easiest outside entrance I use goes through the ladies section) tonight, and right at the aisle corner where I turn to head for the men's clothing dept., there are scads of (let me get my voice about right here...) "thaym thar fayency dressers!" (Hooogah - had to clear my throat some so it doesn't get stuck like thawt - I mean THAT!) I do NOT envy your day, Corey (especially if two gals show up in the store about the same time and one of them has too similar of a dress to the other's... - talk about a catfight royale!)
Jeffrey, when it comes to lightning and electrical grounding - 'You da man!' The whole area sounds like Lightning Central, from the number of strikes you (or your parents) get in a year. I'm just glad our phone and electrical lines (my apartment is all-electric) come in underground (from at least half a block away, and that's at the low spot in our mini-valley. But I still have two 1500-2000 joule surge extension strips in series to each other, and I unplug the main computer if it's supposed to be any chance of storms close to town at all. I sure wouldn't want to move to a strike zone like yours. And yes, totally confused - Reminiscent of "Who's on First?" Oh, on that HO scale log splitter, DerJohn might be able to give you some pointers. I recall him building an N-scale snow blower a bit back (maybe a couple of winters ago). Right, John?

Might still, but I think I may need to study up some first. On your lawn, maybe you could sneak over to their lawns at night with a bag of fertilizer in the spreader? Good morning. It's 71 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 80's and it will be partly cloudy with a small chance of thunderstorms. Yesterday I was busy putting up the fence that goes around most of the Shell station property. It proved to me just how patient I can be at times as the fence demonstrated a propensity to lay down on the job in sections and as a whole. Finally I got it to stand by sticking satin pins down on each side of it. Once it was standing I was able to glue it into position. Today I'll take the pins out. Now folks stopping at the Shell station will settle for the ice cream sold there instead of running over to the Freezee ice cream stand on the other side of the track.
