Good evening,

Finally found some info on the CN derailment in Jesup, IA.

JESUP (KWWL) - Six homes have been evacuated in Jesup after a train derailment.  7 cars of a CN freight train went off the tracks along the rail line in downtown Jesup around 4pm.  CN spokesman Patrick Waldron tells KWWL News, 4 cars were carrying denatured alcohol. Waldron says 3 cars fell on their side and another 4 stayed upright.  2 cars were empty, another car was carrying dried grain.   Waldron says there is no leak and no-one was injured.  Emergency crews evacuated nearby homes and business north of the tracks as a precaution.  The Red Cross has opened shelters at the Presbyterian Church and the American Lutheran Church in Jesup for evacuees.  An emergency response vehicle is arriving soon to provide food and water.

*yawn*

I think it's gonna be an early bedtime tonight. I know I'm up early for a big-deal shoot in Coralville. 2 of my area junior highs are sending 8th graders to the Childrens Museum of Iowa...to learn about how to pick the right career...to make the big bucks you need for the big-boy toys you want. Or something along those lines...

Good night all,

Chris

ID help. Originally the large trestle was thought to be N scale, but upon seeing it next to my wife's two HO trestles, they all look like the same scale to me now. Would you folks agree that all 3 of these trestles are HO scale?

I guess I'll be buying another set of drill bits for my Dremel tomorrow. I put the set I bought several months ago somewhere so that I'd be able to find it again. Well guess what?! I can't remember where I put them!

Garry:I also found a couple of threads on another place across the street that also helped---TNX for the info---now all Audrey needs is to get the kits and stuff for the shelf layout/display she wants to make---I'll also blame this on Rob as I now have to try to work around her layout ideas as well. At least she stayed in Normal scale!! LOL!!Laugh

Hello everybody!

Barry.... Were you satisfied with the answers you got on your steel mill thread? ...It has been a long time since I posted pictures of my steel mill. Have you seen any of my pictures? I had a lot of fun making my steel mill.

On my layout, I laid more track today. It will be many more months before I complete my layout extension because it is a bit ambitious.

Have fun!

Good Evening All,

A nice RBF is in order please and maybe a slice of apple pie with it. Generally un ambitious day today working on the 3rd planit software and trying to get it to comply with Ryans tutorial again. I will struggle through this, but like many semi leterate computer usersI get tangled up in all the layered subroutines that toggle on and off without announcing their presence on the screen. I suppose some time I should just take a how to use your computer course but I'm determined to slog through this as the outcome looks promising.

Jeff - whatever you call it the shell looks good on the trucks and I'll look forward to seeing what a completed GD30J looks like. What road will you letter it for?

I'll kick back for a bit and have my desert. Catch y'all later.   J.R.

Sawyer: Aren't plans wonderful?----yeah right---ahemm

I would be okay doing this but for two things:

1) I'm tired today (I ran my guts out and did a bunch of sports yesterday, ran some today).

2) I seriously have no vision for this layout. I'm pulling my hair out trying to think of somehting.

I'm now thinking small shortline w/ three diesels, small yard at the beginning of the line, then it runs out to an area w/ maybe two or three industries, meanwhile passing two or three more. Then there's another line going in the opposite direction from the yard.

shortline locos: U23B, B23-7 for the branches, rs-1 for the yard.

lol, jsut typed that out on here. yeah, I like that idea.

 Evening everyone!

I'm back from the Camp Show at the Mall.  We had a pretty good day all told and handed out a good many flyers for SciTek Camp.  We would have had camp full by the end of the day if we accepted 11 year olds into the camp.  More than half of the people that stopped to talk were very disappointed that they couldn't send their 11 year old kids to it.  The camp is a program at our Boy Scout Camp and is a co-ed program for Venture Aged youth (14 to 18 for camp).

It has been a foggy, rainy, dreary day here in the Finger Lakes today with a half inch more rain predicted for tonight and showers all day tomorrow.  Guess I will start to clean house for the upcoming NMRA Meet.

Chloe I'll have a nice cup of decafe and a Tuna Club Sandwich with some potato chips.  Hold the tomato on that sandwich, OK.

I'll go sit in the back where it is warm and chat with some of the guys.

That is precisely why I don't take too much time to plan.  Heck, I still don't have anything past a track plan for my unfinished area on my layout.  Too much stress in planning everything, it takes a toll on somebody.

Jim, I think I may have spurred an idea.  Then you could have some kid pointing and laughing.Mischief

Hello--Chloe--I'll have a 2lb ribeye steak medium rare with baked potato and grilled eggplant please--oh--and a coffee as well. I'll also finish off with a couple of slices of Pecan PIE!! also---DinnerWhistling

Sheeeesh--busy day today. Went down to Eric's place--the child down the street from us--to do a bit of work on the layout there and ended up getting a couple of 'used' GP18's from who knows where--it appears that someone in the group came across these at a show someplace and thought that these work work on their layout---but they did not think they'd need it ---so I got them instead!! I got the bodies off and found them to be DCC with Sound?!--and it seems that they work--so we'll see--yet more things that make 'Spring' spring-----Tongue--anyhoooo, the trackwork has almost been completed--all yards in and the wiring up is almost done--we may be ready for run tests come next month.

As far as my atrium project goes I'm in the process of reconfiguring the front entrance as well as rear due to the sag issue--once we get the pieces in some kind of logical position I'll be able to make headway on some of the pix---right now taking pix of bits is about all anyone would see--not pretty--and dang near impossible to see as organizedSoapBox

Well folks, we got a little breaking news. Linn County is paging-out the HAZMAT team, to respond to Jesup (Buchanan County) for a train derailment. That would be the CN-IC, ex-IC Iowa Div. I'm hoping dispatch will give more details once the glow worms start acknowledging and responding.

Crappy day to go play outside, rain has pretty much stopped, but it's still only about 40 degrees with a strong breeze out of the North.

Paul, I think I missed saying it last night, but congrats on your granddaughter's team's win. I'm sure she's still floating off the ground today. Thumbs Up

Luc, good to see you in again, but better be taking good care of yourself (and Gloria). Check your blood sugar at least as often as you need to, and give Glo a hug for us. Thumbs Up

Barry, see? - at least it's not freezing rain or snow, or that dreaded 'dry cold'...Whistling

Inch, I'd like to go to the Boeing train show - when is it? Is it next weekend? I have their mail flyer somewhere at home, but don't recall. May depend on gas prices around then. It's usually a good show, and I can find some bargains if I look a bit. A number of times, I wind up getting back issues of MR (just what I need, more stuff to store, eh?). I've found some useful stuff there (like some Bar Mills billboards I was wanting, after they stopped making them, and some Central Valley fences/stairway parts/etc.). You and Deb enjoy that next weekend, and if that is when the Boeing show is, I'll email you so we can meet up there. We usually head up in time to help our LHS owner/club member set up his tables (before they open on Sat. a.m.).

PC, were you over in Illinois by Todd's place today? You rascal, you! Laugh

Sawyer, have fun with the new design, and remember to post a diagram or two of what you go with. Wink

Well, I plan to get back home and see about some painting, since it's clear and that means my 'spray booth' (the back deck) is usable...Smile,Wink, & Grin  Prayers for healing and comfort, and a productive and fun MRR day for you!

well, I kinda copy and pasted that off my girlfriend's wall, lol. whoops. but yeah, it would also take away form my time on the forums.

btw y'all, I'm pretty much set on doing track next year. Now to keep running.

going to begin planning my next layout, should hopefully begin benchwork this summer when I get the room (I'm going to get some of the bonus room, not the attic, so instead of a mountain line, it'll be a freelance industrial park).

Afternoon fella's, I'll just have a RBF and a bowl of vanilla ice cream with a little chocolate sauce on the top.  Not anything happening on the MRR front around here, a whole lot of real RR action happening (CSX has been REALLY busy the past week) seems that they're pulling a lot of "dead" hoppers out of the trackage down past the plastic onload/offload point on the local shortline here.  I guess business is picking up with it starting to be spring and all.

About 1:20 I had to take off to a grass fire just a 1/4 quarter mile from here. Looked like someone was trying to burn a patch of weeds out of their fence and it got away. Being there's a steady 13 mph south wind that's no real surprise.

Only 13mph?? Sheesh. Around here, the true geniuses like to wait until it's a steady 20, with gusts between 25 and 30...

2 -1/2 days of rain...we should be done with that nonsense for at least a few days. County is sending FAX's to all the stations listing road closures, not so much from flooding...more from just plain old MUD bogging conditions.

As the man said, have a goodun.

Jeff: One good thing about your Murphy encounter with the tractors is that we've all learned something about what to check for, and how to fix it! Thanks. On the soldering iron, Ive always had difficulty getting a new point tinned on the pencil type irons. The solder never coats the iron, just balls up. What am I missing?

Dip the tip in flux first then tin it.

Hi there Diners: It's snowing again, meant to turn to rain, but shows no signs that it knows about that!  I started this on Friday afternoon, and didn't get it sent, then Saturday we a were away all day, so I'm trying again today.  It's probably all old news now, at the pace of this Diner.  Are you sure we aren't coupled to an express and don't know it?Big Smile  I'll have the pork tenderloin and roast veggies please Chloe, and peach waffles and ice-cream for dessert, Thanks.

Rob:  I'm with the "wide valley small river" geological consensus (WVSMGC)  Here's how I treated the need for such to bridge my train room doorway.  The viaduct is a scale 640', (viaduct module04.jpg)and the river (East end joints04/jpg)a scale 45-90'.  However, having JR's sink hole and letting your wife do a canoe scene would add a lot of interest. (That was Friday, and I see you've come to a resolution on this.Thumbs Up)

Jerry:Thanks for your kind words, and I'm sure your backdrop will turn out just great too. My hang up was biting the bullet and doing it!

Have you any artist experience?....
...No, but Kris has, and she watches a TV show from time to time on landscape painting. I take that in too sometimes to keep her company, and pick up pointers. She's great for advice, and that helps too in more ways than just the practical help. Involving others gets their interest in the whole thing going.Thumbs Up

I've read a bunch of articles on "How To", not that I remember a lot, but some sticks around the edges!Big Smile Also, I take a good look at the way things look, and try to remember.  I test out ideas, like the tree line added in the wet paint with the tip of the brush, on paper first. The hills were first of all drawn on paper - one long strip for each side of the room - to get the arrangement and sizes roughly right. The size includes the fact that my eye level in front of the layout is from 300-500 scale feet above the scenery, so that means more distant ranges of hills can be seen than one sees when driving through the countryside!  The colour values were tested out on a scrap of white painted plastic (an off cut of the coving material, the lower end was a bit in shadow. It's  not really purple!  The very bottom right has my airbrush mist test as well), and I kept a chart of how many measures of what colour paint went into each mix.  That way I have a ghost of a chance of matching later if I have to).  Credit for any artistic talent there may be goes to The Creator, ‘cos I sure didn't manufacture it!BowBow

Ray: CONGRATULATIONS GRANDPA!! That's one sweet baby! Thanks for posting the photos.

BTW, Jeff: I was sent this today, and thought you might get a chuckle, seeing as you know all about fixing cars and such.

Subject: Why Men Don't Write Advice Columns

To Bill's Advice Column:
Dear Bill,
I hope you can help me here.  The other day, I set off for work leaving my husband in the house watching the TV as usual. I hadn't? driven more than a mile down the road when the engine conked out and the car shuddered to a halt. I walked back home to get my husbands help. When I got home I couldnʼt believe my eyes. He was in the bedroom with the neighbor's daughter!!
I am 32, my husband is 34, and the neighbor's daughter is 22. We have been  married for 10 years. When I confronted him, he broke down and admitted they had been having an affair for 6 months. I told him to stop or I would leave him. He was let go from his job six months ago and he says he has been feeling increasingly depressed & worthless. I love him very much, but ever since I gave him the ultimatum he has become increasingly distant. He won't go to counseling, and I am afraid I cant get through to him anymore. Can you please help?
Sincerely, Heather.

Dear Heather:
A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a
variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking that there is no debris
in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pipes and hoses on the
intake manifold and also check all grounding wires.
If none of these approaches solve the problem, it could be that the fuel
pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the injectors.
I hope this helps. Best regards from Bill.

Rain began, finally, some time while I was on the treadmill after lunch. Hope it gets rid of the snow, as we have to take our daughter to the Halifax Infirmary Orthopedics tomorrow.  She broke her wrist today in a fall, and the Truro Hospital, who set the thing, phoned her to get down to Halifax ASAP as they aren't happy with the way it looked!!!!! She doesn't have a car, and there isn't any reasonable public transport link. So the there goes tomorrow.

Jeff- You had me scratchin' thereLaugh. I first saw this post, and was wondering, "I know he knows the difference" Confusedthen I saw your other thread with a different picture and it CLEARLY showed 4 wheels. " Ah the angle must make it look that way" Thumbs UpThen after Chris said something then I started looking again and then I noticed a few other things Alien....... Like he said, eye strain. I was quite fun trying to figure out what was going on. Especially when I had a preconceived idea of what it was I was looking at. And I also think it should have a "J" at the end no matter what model number you decide. How about GD30J known as the "Wimberly" Approve(is this how locos got their nicknames)
