Athearn F59phi couplers
Posted by skagitrailbird on Monday, February 16, 2009 4:16 PM

Does anyone know how to mount the couplers on an Athearn RTR F59phi?  The lower half of the coupler box is square with little plastic "ears" that prevent it from being assembled before mounting but I can't get the coupler through the pilot with the coupler box on its pad.

I had to go down and get mine to remember how I did it.

I used a #5 on the rear, instead of the stock coupler cover, I used the Kadee one and cut it off to fit. Lay the centering spring in place on the chassis, feed the coupler shank through the rear pilot and set it in place, put the coupler cover on and secure with the original screw.

I used an underset coupler on the front (can't recall the number), and the original mounting. Again, lay the centering spring in place, feed the coupler shank through the pilot, install the cover, and secure with the screw.

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to. Chief of Sanitation; Clowntown
