Joe: I'm glad that didn't happen to me... I like my bedroom roof where it is, thanks! (I'm homeschooled...)

Alex: I had meant putting the Bachmann GP30 shell on the dummy chassis keeping the handrails. Both locos would need handrails anyway. Which powered GP30 chassis do you mean though? I think a Bachmann locomotive with a sound decoder is pretty much a waste of the decoder (I've commited to no powered Bachmann locomotives in my fleet) plus there isn't any room left in the shell. Or did you mean the ATSF GP30? Why would we put a Bachmann shell on a Proto 2000 loco? I'm confused...

I have a sound decoder, and a powered GP30 Chassis, if the ATSF doesn't already have a decoder we could use the sound decoder in it...

Cool, So am I. It definitively gives me more time... if it weren't for all the other projects and organizations I'm involved with because of my flexible schedule. However, I guess I've got time now, thanks to a surgery. (Which why I'm all over the forum today... don't expect me back in force like this much again)

Anywho, not much new from me, MRR wise. I'm designing a plan for a PA modern short line, but other than that... not much else.

Geez, it seems everyone is HSed around here... Explains why everyone posts at those weird times. Our library computers at school are bad (Macs Wink) and I don't have a study anyway.

Tried bidding on the CI on ebay last night. Got in a war. Gave up when it got to $25, just not worth it. Guess this guy REALLY wants it.

I've been thinking about getting an airbrush for a long time. I use drybrushing, but sometimes it comes out way to heavy. What do you guys think about this one. It's a full set and I don't need a compressor. I'll probably have to wait until summer when I go back to work and hopefully get a second job.

Going to see Friday the 13th tonight with some friends. They're the same ones that I saw The Unborn with (we were SUPPOSED to see Mall CopSighWhistling).

Well, I've spent my entire day off working on my Theology term paper. The lack of a roof at school gave me a chance to work on it.

I'd get a compressor... I've always used it, and heard the cans of air produce less than satisfactory results, but if you want to use them... http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/542-11

Wish I could do homeschool for college. Wouldn't have to deal with psyco professors and the staff incompetence. (why would you add several new buildings for classes, and cut it out of the parking which was already horrible)

I wouldn't use a can of air because they tend to get real cold if used alot. I have one of those huge compressors that can be used for stuff like air tools. I'm guessing if I adjust the regulator I could find out if mine will work.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Cool.... Although, I can only lay claim to the homeschooler club for a few months longer... I'm a senior, and have been homeschooled my whole life. I definitely recommend and will definitely do for my own kids... when I have them.... in several years....

If some of you guys remember.... when I was on here before/ over the summer, I mentioned about the paper mill section that was under construction...Here's some pics. Any comment, or constructive criticism is welcome. :

Wish I could do homeschool for college.

I don't know of any homeschoolers who homeschool through collage... I know I'm going to a regular collage.

Joe: I'm pretty sure that's the same airbrush I have. The can of air was a real pain, because I had to stop every couple minutes to shake it or something (I have a compressor now and don't really remember using the can) so I'd recommend a compressor.

Ozark: That's a really neat layout! There's just something about the overall look that I really enjoy! Maybe because it looks finished, but at the same time, something I could do myself (not including $100+ craftsman kits, insane skill, etc) if you know what I mean. What scale is it?

Thanks for your comments... It HO. It won't be up much longer (six months tops) as I'll be going off to college, and don't want it to collect dust more than it already is!  Plus, my dad will be using the benchwork for his own layout, while I'll recycle the components of the current system into a modular setup that I can expand when I have my own house.

I've gone to public school since first grade, and I'll keep going until I graduate High school (then hopefully Clemson University Tongue ), and I'm dern PROUD of it. In my opinion, public school is the best b/c A) you get to experience real life, B) it's almsot free and about on par w/ private schools, and C) sports

only bad thing is all the crap they teach that I don't beleive (and considering the discussion in the last TMRP, I'll leave it at that).

In most states you can take any public school class even as a homeschooler. I took Tech Ed in middle school for example. Really fun class, and comedian teacher.

Oh. I think it was probably something about lining the turnout at the West end of the Stude - Dooley Siding. I really need to think of a name for that, or at least pick ONE town for it to be named after... It's now officially Stude siding!

In between trackwork today I managed to film another short clip...

Have any of you tried to operate a 22 car train on a 4% grade around a 22" radius curve, two-fisting throttles for the head and pusher engines (individual control is required, as no consist setup will compensate for the curves, grade, and such) while filming and trying to keep your shadow off the scene? It's not easy... I caused 6 major wrecks in less than half an hour... Not enough speed on the pusher engine stringlined 6 cars onto someone's lawn, too much speed flipped a reefer off the tracks, then there was a huge pileup behind it, and that type of thing...

In the end, I came out with this though. A low angle shot of WRS locos on their knees (During one shot, the pusher uncoupled, so I stopped it, and the two locos on the front plus 20-odd cars stalled on the grade, so they actually were working hard) heading up the East Slope of New Poland Pass. I really need to think of a new name for that too...

Enjoy!

tyler, nice video. I'm planning a 2% grade for my next alyout, and 22 in. radius curves. of course, it's N scale, so that 22 in. is actually generous. Whistling of coruse, if I get a 4-6-6-4 Challenger, and bullfrog snot one set of drivers on each set of 6, it'll haul butt Tongue

good job juggling the throttles. I note the AAT reefer is reporesenting the south, alond w/ the CSX cars and loco.

And WHAT?? Was that a typo, or what?Laugh

Thanks! 22" radius is definetely pretty big in N scale. I wish I could increase my curve radius, but I can't without rebuilding the benchwork. It provides quite a challenge with long trains though!

Railfan Alex

Hey!

Where's Jordan?

Right here.

I've been pretty busy, with nothing to post so...not much from me. I did though; buy another WC GP40, WC 3007. It needs some work, needs a plow and some of the lift rings broke off, but nothing to major.

The Mad city train show is coming up, so we'll see what I can find there. Hopefully an undec. SD35 so I can paint WC 2500 in her original SOU colors, or an undec. GP30 so I can paint her as WC 703. If anything else I'll try and find a SD9 for my SDM project. If I can't find any of those, I'll just find a SD40-2 for the WIN...Tongue

Tyler I like the angle, and that kodachrome GP30 looks nice. I see the WRS is now going more into EMDs Tongue. What’s your WRS roster as of now? 3 GP7/9s, two GP30s, and two GEs right?

Alex F, I like the weathering, hides up your painting mistakes (everyone makes them, except for Jerry). Tongue But do I see some “dirt” coming off the hand railings? Tongue

no, no typo. learned about this on nscale.org. It's (and I'm trying to figure out how to explain it) a do-it-yourself (I guess is a good way to put it) traction tire. apparently it's like a gel or something, and when you put it on your loco's wheels and if you do it right, when it dries, it dramatically increases pulling performance. thinking about it, if I get the Challenger, I might only need to do one set of drivers out of the two sets of 6, IDK. Definitely going to do it to all my locos though, on one set.

here's the thread, it explains it best:

http://www.nscale.org/forum/frameset.html?http://www.nscale.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14448&highlight=bullfrog+snot

you might want to try it, lol. Wink

and here's the product's site:

Tyler: Nice job on the video. I like the lashup.

I've gone to Catholic school my entire life. Let's just say that my town doesn't have the greatest school system... I've heard more than enough stories. And I like my HS. Big enough to feel like school, but not huge. For college, anywhere near the beach and the tracks is fine with me.

Went to the movies on Friday, once again, didn't work out as planned. Friday the 13th was sold out, so  we wanted to see The Uninvited. Sold out. So we decided to chill at the mall. We got bored, so we saw Push. Weird movie.

So far, I've spent almost the entire long weekend on homework... Ugh...

Jordan: You need a another Tongue in your post!Tongue

The WRS roster is as follows:

  • P2K Ex-PRR GP7
  • P2K Ex-C&O GP7
  • Trainline WRS GP9 (I don't know it's heritage)
  • P2K Ex-IC GP10
  • P2K Ex-ATSF GP30
  • Atlas Ex-UP (now WIN) SDP35
  • Atlas Ex-CSX U23B
  • Atlas Ex-Chessie System U23B

There will also be a GP30 used as a trailing unit, actually a dummy feeding power pickup to a powered unit. And there will be the occasional visitor to the railroad as well.

Interesting idea, Sawyer. Alex, you might want to take note of that for your 70 tonner...it can't handle even 3 cars on my grade and it cogs like crazy coming down, even by itself.

It doesn't matter what is put on the wheel treads, when there isn't enough weight over the trucks to put traction on them...
