Yes, Dick got to the Diner tonight, you guys didn't tell me that the Diner was moved AGAIN!!! I'm still frozen from searching the yard. It is 7.7F right now at 11:17pm with a Dew Point of -7F, so that means that the temperature could get that low tonight. Three dog night you say? Maybe, usually here in New England and upstate New York you don't use three dogs until the temp goes BELOW 0F. And poor Flip, can you guys send some blankets or 5 dogs and two cats to Flip in Florida? It will be in the 20's Friday night deep into Florida. I hear that the FEC RR has frozen brakes, nothing is moving until they thaw them out.

JEFF: It is going to be mighty cold in your neck of the woods too, hope you have a good heater in the trailer.

The train room is coming along a little slower lately, snow clearing, wood stove feeding, and a HD project to strip wallpaper and paint the ceiling and walls in the wife's den is the Winter project underway presently, so I am trying to fit the Train Room into any spare time I get.

More snow due tomorrow along with even colder temps, ahhh ya gotta love it!!

Bon Soir mais amis

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Whatsup guys. Nothing for me, just thought I'd drop in before I fall asleep.

Just got back from our game (that I only found out about this morning...) We lost, but I scored- 1st career goal.

Anyway, nothing new. Probably same tomorrow, may not be able to check in either. Got confirmation then study for band exam, which other than today's bio test, will be the easiest test I've ever taken.

Tonight it's 25F for the low, tomorrow 36 for the high and tomorrow night 11 for the low. YUCK...lots more work for me breaking ice so the critters can drink.

Wife & I have begun moving a few things into the new place. As for the train room, I think most stuff "could" survive a fall, from the feel of it (industrial grade carpet with good pad underneath). Not that I ever want to test that theory out mind you. Anyway, moved a card table in their short term, so wife can set out her "stuff" to see what all she has to work with. This could be fun.

Will be in a corner booth awhile working on these yummy desserts.

If the C-Liner is noisy and it wasn't before that means something is out of place and may be putting pressure on the drive line. You could wind up with damaged gears or a burned out motor.

Actually, this is the first time I've run it. It's a walthers Proto, and when MR reviewed the RS-2, they said it had a little noise, so i tihnk the C-Liner has the same drive or something similar. oh well, it's only faint.

Jeff...what a weathering job on the Pacer....How did you do it?

It was quite simple really. I roughed up the paint with a wire wheel on my Dremel. The same wire wheel was used to wipe out the windows and flatten both tires on the drivers side. I then dabbed some rust paint on the body and smeared it around with my fingers. That's all there was to it.

Ray, were the insulators porcelain in the 1920's?

From what very little I have researched on the subject, Porcelain had replaced glass on electric transmission wiring by around 1915.  However telegraph and signal lines were still using glass up to the end of the production of glass insulators (c 1970) and beyond.  Many poles even today have a mixture of the two.  What I'm putting up are principally telegraph and signal wire poles so glass is appropriate.

JimRCGMO
If you're in HO scale, Rix makes some (2-part) poles and crossarms/insulators (crossarms and insulators are molded as one piece) , and one version of the crossarms with insulators is a sorta clear green color. Not sure if they make them in N scale, but it'd be work a lookup on either the Rix Products Co. or the Walthers website, if you want to see. All you need to do is paint the cross arms (brown) and the support arms (silver or rusty silver...) and you're there!

Yea, but that takes all the fun out of it.......Sad   Besides, some poles will have crossarms in various locations depending on need (if you were to look down on the top, some crossarms might be like this: X).  Plus I really like to make stuff like this myself rather than plop down RTR Plastic stuff.  But thanks for the suggestion!

Sure, that's what you say now, but just wait til they are gone, then the first cute doggy or kitty you see after that.......

Trust me, Robby, I've been that route......

Jeff, are you parking the Pacer near the shell station?  Kinda like a old junker?

How'd you guess? Yeah, I figure the best place for it would be just outside the fence (which isn't up yet).

Charlie, I believe its due to the other dog being in heat.  The boxer is a male, and our cocker is female.  I never got her fixed, due to she was going to be my only dog.  Then ended up getting the boxer years later.  Now the cocker is going on 7, and he is only 3.

He had a problem a couple of years ago, but that was due to him being at the vets while we were out of town.  He held his pee, and got a infection.  Now, I think 99% is due to Dixie (the cocker).

We are watching him like a hawk.  I keep telling the wife, after these two are gone, THATS IT!!!

Thanks for the heads up thou.

Galaxy, good to hear from you, and maybe pick an easier kit to start back up with (one you can leave on the workbench in between, so you get 'tempted' to do 10 minutes here, 10 there, and before long - surprise! - you'll have it all together!). Stop by again soon, y'all hear? (Jeff, did I say that about right? Wink)

Jim in Cape Girardeau

HI Jim and all,

Cup-a-joe please in a CSX mug to go with my T-Bone steak, smashed baked taters and Island blend vegetables.Dinner

I'm tempted to do a lot of things, just lack the gumption or get up and go to do so. Haven't gotten my energy back from being in the hospital in November for two weeks. Sad

I'm a have-to-set-up-on-a-portable-table-in-the-LR guy. Don't have a workbench which sucks. Hey, I barely have room for my 3.5 x 5 foot HO layout as it is. Want to extend it to at least 40-42" x 62", mainly so I can have at least two circles of 18R track instead of a 15R and an 18R. Back to a blue plywood prairie. I'm itching to get me an SD-something or other {when I finally have some money again} and want to be able to run it from the inside spur yard engine facility out to the outside circle. I also want some larger steam than my 0-6-0. Wish DCC Mikes weren't so expensive {to me} now, need a new DCC one. My old DC one kissed the floor one day.Banged Head

I play a dual pragmatic era layout. Pragmatic older 1905-ish to 1950-ish steam, and a pragmatic 1950-ish to as modern-ish diesel as I can run on an 18R layout. Just change out a few things and I'm good to go. I love steam but am liking diesels now too. Just can't pin an era for diesels, love Geeps, but liking some new ones now. Trains magazine has me drooling over some of the newer ones.Sigh

As with most of NE of the country it will be COLD here with snow. I hear dollars burning and ka-chinging every time the furnace kicks on. Thank the good stars above for HEAP. That will help.Wink

Bought a new washer just after Christmas with money gifts to help some. It's nice to have a washer that will actually wash clothes more than a half a load at a  time. BUT, that meant I didn't get my $100 to spend on a new loco of some sort. That and the repair bills to the van before Christmas ate up all budget. At least we had the cash to do so and so keeps us out of CC debt! Should'nt complain. Not about to go into debt for a hobby, so trains will have to wait till summer most likely before have some cash again.Whistling

Well, my my I have run on here a bit. Think it cheered me up some.

Hope everyone has a nice night and a great day tomorrow! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Good Evening Diners!

Well after my whining post last night I resolved not to mention cold again but this morning when I turned on the TV the windchill was -49C! That's it, I'm loading up the RV and heading for that spot beside Jeff's station. Mind you the weatherman says it is supposed to be either -2C or +2C by Sunday so there is hope unless he's up to his old trick of promising nice weather ahead of the weekend and then daily reducing it so that when the weekend arrives the weather is rather poor.

Robby, if you're having trouble with your Boxer urinating in the house it could be a medical problem as dogs normally won't soil their "nest" unless there is a problem. Our Westie who just died suddenly started drinking a lot and then urinating all the time, sometimes in the house. He was diagnosed with diabetes. As soon as his blood sugar was under control the urine problem stopped.

Luke, what loco are you putting that MRC decoder into? I put in 2 brillance mini steam decoders into Bachmann locos a couple of years ago. A simple plug and play and they work quite well but it is hard to get the chuff and start in synch.

Well I've got all the ballast done on the service yard and now just have to vacuum up the excess. I think I"ll move on to scenic the station area. I have a Cornerstone Pella station that is really too big for the layout but I had to have it since it resembles the station in a town where I used to live.

Keep warm,

CN Charlie

Jim, that beef stew and grilled cheese look delicious!  Chocolate chip concrete?  We call it ice cream:-)  Unless it's yogurt.

Exactly, Eric. We have a frozen yogurt place here in town, and they have 'em there, so I order a choco-chip one in the Diner when I'm in the mood.

Jeff, I'd almost say there's a bit too much glass in the rear window of that Pacer. That, or they wore out their arm with the sledgehammer too soon...Whistling I think Robby would be proud of that Pacer. Thumbs Up

Back to my stew and grilled cheese (and frozen yogurt concrete). Dinner

Evening, Chloe - glad you and Bergie were able to get that front door unjammed. I'll have a big bowl of beef stew,

with a grilled cheese sandwich (and some grated cheese on the side).

Oh yes, and a frozen chocolate chip concrete, please 'n' thank you.

Ray, were the insulators porcelain in the 1920's? Our temp's supposed to drop to about 11 F (-12 C) tonight, high of 20 F (-7 C) tomorrow in the day, and 7 F (-14 C) tomorrow night. And that's not counting any wind chill.Shock

C&O Terry, that's a nice cabin - is that scratchbuilt, or whose kit did you modify for that? Looks great!

Rob, that is a good camo job on that walking stick!

I'm not gonna push my luck - I'll settle back in the booth here and eat my dinner before the front door gets jammed again. Prayers for warmth, comfort and continued healing for those in need of them. And tonight, that'd be most everybody except maybe C&O Terry, Flip (fec), and BridgeTom (in California...). If Dick comes in the Diner tonight, tell him to get a couple or three dogs for the bed tonight!

Blessings and prayers,

Don't know Jerry but wish him well along with those who know him.

Have to get my buildings from the other house to post and see if it meets the standards of this group.  The stuff that is posted is of amazing quality.  The realness of the motive power, structures, industry items sets a high standard that I hope I can attain.

last night I managed to get my 2 SD9s speed matched. Someday I'll speed match every one of eninges to a set rule.

Looks like Athearn's BN F45s will be here soon, since athearn's site isn't showing a release date.

http://www.athearn.com/Search/Default.aspx?SearchTerm=f45&CatID=THLD&RN=BN

However, Horizon's page shows mid febuary for the painted units and undecorated BN version is slated for March. So I'm not quite sure what's going on, anyone got an idea?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Don't know what his job is. Gave the carpet guy our names & number and with any luck maybe we'll receive an invite to visit the old gentleman.

Here is a cheater pic of the stick bug. Still not easy to see it. Nature can produce some amazing camo.

well, I tsted out the locos I got for christmas today (c-liner is back together, rs-1 will be painted and put back together when I get ana ribrush to paint it). C-liner is a bit noisy, but runs good, and my rs-1 is good at slow speeds, so I'm happy.

Oh, and that boxcar came out good.

Hello ....

Like others I had trouble with error messages. I think of my "gremlins" on the layout and how frustrating they are to me. Then I realize the people trying to fix servers must get really frustarted as well.

Unca Roggie. ...The 1964 wreck I mentioned finding on that website involved the Golden State Limited. Rock Island was hauling the GSL along with a midwest train it combined with it creating a long train with six E-units. Rock Island diverted its eastbound train onto the CB&Q because of bridege repairs near Chicago. The Burlington train had three E units and two Zephyrs combined into one train. It was traveling at 60 mph when a switch malfunctioned and routed it into a head on collision with the Rock Island train. Four engine crew members were killed, and 43 other people were injured.

Jerry .... I'm glad you are home. Are ready for country ham at breakfast time tomorrow?

Paul ... We're all very concerned about you and Mary Ann's kideny disease.

Lee ..... you asked about water. I have done OK with Modge Podge which is sometimes available at craft stores who advertise 50% off anything in the store. However, I am currently including a steam in my new scene, and I will use the Woodland Scenics "water". I found an open, unused package at a train show with a very cheap price. I will be using the WS stuff in the next coupld of days after the paint on the bed of the stream is dry.

Speaking of my scenery project, I'm headed back to the train room now.

Happy Model Railroading.
