Evening, Diners! Chloe, I'll have a root beer float,

side of ribs (anyone wanna help me finish this off?),

a salad.

and.. oh, for dessert, how about a nice...

slice of apple PIE with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! Yeah!!Smile,Wink, & GrinDinner

Gee, all this talk about pie today got me hungry - and we know what a bunch of chowhounds there is in this Diner...Whistling Thanks, Chloe!

Luke, I don't think it's possible to be Sign - Off Topic!! in here. Now, maybe that's because Vinnie took our last Topic Cop out back, and that TC's never been seen or heard from since then., y'know.... Shock Of course, if you have a good slice or two of pie (with topping of your choice), that will likely help you feel better any time of the day. Big Smile

Ray, maybe the Arthur Murray places were a Midwestern and Western kind of thing back then. I sort of recall he had some TV program (back in the days...), but I don't recall lots about it. I think back then he was kinda not 'cool' or something with my age group. I do recall that I learned some dancing after school at one girl's house so I knew how to dance at the after-school "sock hops" (basic stuff - whatever it was that was around after jitterbug; jitterbug was more like my folks' kind of dancing). (Our younger Diners can do a search on Wikipedia for "sock hops").

Cederstrand
I've always like that tailings trestle. Just think of all the wee little folk could get into with a track to nowhere.

Rob, you had me thinking of a Calvin & Hobbes scenario with that one. Kinda "Calvin & Hobbes get into model railroading, and..."Shock Smitty must've been in the kennel pen next to the dogs for a while, huh? Hey, I went with the power switcher instead of that Dockside - I got a Bachmann (Spectrum) 0-6-0T (after part of my older MDC Saddle Tanker stripped the threads that held the pistons to  the bottom of the steam box). As someone said earlier: "Ar-Ar-Ar-Ar-Arrr - More Power!" Smile,Wink, & Grin Gee, you're lucky on your layout that it is in N scale and not O scale, or you'd be down to a very small switching yard by now...

Bama - with all your business today, you maybe could even put $10 into savings for the MRR'ing stuff! Sounds like a busy day, all right. Is that your usual day (so far as number of jobs to work on)? On your coupler for the GP-40, that depends on who the manufacturer is - Athearn, or someone else?

But it sounded like (if he ever gets the phone call from his son) Ray might've had a busier day than you did.  Did you get everything fitted in, Ray?

Not at all like mine was - in the morning, I didn't have any calls or people to see in walk-in or crisis (my co-worker only had one person in walk-in); when I got back from lunch, I swung by the phone operator for the building, and about begged her to give me some phone call, something I could put down on my time sheet for the day! About 4 p.m. I got a call from a local ER, wanting info on someone who - we'll just say, was having an extremely bad day. Rob, ask your wife if the phrase "four-point restraints" means anything to her...Whistling So I got something to put down - didn't want to jeapordize my job security and have them thinking they don't need us anymore!

Barry, you were reminding me about that phrase - about "making my words soft and tender, in case I need to eat them tomorrow".Smile,Wink, & Grin

NS Joe - is your hand sore from writing all your Spanish exam answers down? And didn't your geometry test even have a pie chart?Whistling

After reading Galaxy's and Ray's posts about women, I see why some of ya are in the Diner a lot - less time to get in trouble at home! Oops

Robby - after the cocker spaniel got into the candy, did you have to hold its head when it got sick? I've seen that sometimes when a dog gets some kinds of people food. Heck, on that RI hopper, it barely looks weathered! I'm used to "good and rusty". But as you said, more to be done on it, right? Oh, I was looking at the 'before' photo...Blush

Vincent - your post reminded me of my math teacher in my last two years of high school (at a military academy), Capt. (or was he a Major?) Hilpert. Our room was one of those older ones, that has the moulding strip high up on the wall, about a foot below the ceiling. So he had found a lonnnnnnggg strip of paper, and had printed pi to about as many places as you had in your post (maybe more...) all the way around three sides of the room. He made math fun for us! Great teacher.Thumbs Up

Gonna try to w**k some more tonight on the Walthers modular warehouse (I still have to wait on two addiitional DPM module kits I ordered to get my background one going). May also have a phone call from a lady in the KC area I've been emailing, but don't know yet on that. I also got in the MRP 2009 I had ordered, and want to take a look at that, too.

On the 'necessary' list, I got my tax receipt (pers. prop.) in today, so with tomorrow being payday, I need to get the license plates for the car taken care of (before the end of the month). Not quite as many things on my plate as some of our Diners, and I'm thankful for that.

Prayers for comfort and healing (and for pipes that don't freeze up) for those in need of 'em. I'll be heading out after I finish my Dinner

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hmmm...anyone have any suggestions on what number Kadee coupler will fit in my GP40-2?

The #5 is universal and will fit MOST applications. I prefer the #148 (whisker) myself.

To join in on the pie fest, I'll have two slices, but make mine pumpkin with whipped cream on top.

Wife & I moved the old couch and chair into the train room. Not too much RealEstate lost and it is important for her Dad to have a place to sit when he's here. We discussed the table plans and mine keeps getting smaller.Mischief At least she has backed off the idea of all sorts of tunnels, just a couple will suffice now. Other than a Bigtop and a roller coaster, she decided she had enough circus/carnival stuff now. Next project will be building her table and my shelves. We decided her table will be the height of one of those old folding card tables. That way her layout can be viewed from the couch.

Still much to work on tonight. Cowboy Rob

Just be glad she didn't start on Steel mills-----Circus trains OK---Steel mills---NOT soPhew

Since we are all having pie, I'll take a slice of Lemon Meraunge and Apple pie Ala mode.

Luke, you should get 3.14159 26535 89793 23846 26433 83279 50288 41971 69399 37510 pieces of pie. Hopefully you'll feel better.

Looks like the F45 I had pre-ordered will be here soon. Standard hobby isn't showing anything about pre-order, back-order, or reservations.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hey Zoe!   Give Luke 3.14 pieces of Pi(e) to make him feel better....ConfusedWhistling

Well, I got home from the Sci-Tek Camp meeting at the Boy Scout Office and brought in the local evening paper and found a picture of my mug in it.  Lucky it was not in "Police Beat" but rather an article about the program at the college last night in the extra section about the inauguration festivities around the country.  I knew my mug shot had been taken as the reporter asked me my name to go with it.  I will admit to looking right at her and saying, "Joe Six-Pack".  She actually started to write that down and then glared at me with that...LOOK!  So I was nice and gave her my real name.  I do think that there would be quite a few of their readers in Geneva in respiratory failure tonight who know both me and my sense of humor.......Smile,Wink, & GrinLaugh  She finally verified my name with the lady (one of my Deacons at church) who was sitting next to me.  I love doing stuff like that.  My favorite is whenever I'm standing in line at a checkout and something is said over the stores PA system, I shout in a loud voice, "OMG! Its those VOICES again!"

Oh well I'll finish my pie and get back to sorting Art and Poetry.  HELP I"M IN PERGATORY!  THE PILE KEEPS GETTING HIGHER.....!!!!!!! Opps, that's the pile I already sorted.Oops

You guys are right, I'm going to have to lay a lot of track for all the engines that I'm going to be buying up, but oh well.  Well, today was a great day for me, I busted my tail working, did five brake jobs, two tune ups, and replaced the alternator and a BMW (that was a...a...something I can't say on here).  Well, looks like my search is going to soon start for finding engines (I know, I probably shouldn't start looking for engines when I don't even have a building yet, but I don't care!), and maybe finding a WHOLE lot more covered hoppers (preferably CSX, or the forming companies that made CSX (Family Lines, SCL, Chessie, ConRail, ect).

Zoe, I'll have a RBF and a order of cheese fries, please.

Evening everyone

Looks like Jeffrey might be able to start an old fashion "gas war" with all the pumps that has for the station. Don't forget your friends and save some gas for them!

Der.. Your clips of your layout are great. Can't wait until I can aquire more "property" so I can expand.

Cederstrand>>> My first loco was a docksider in "N". It still runs and its over 30 years old and a Bachman to boot!

Zoe Will you please get me a large slice of PIE and a RBF. Thank you.

I'll be at the corner window watching for the late freight.

Afternoon everbody, What’s it’s about time we got around to Pie. I’ll have pie, pie, beans and pie. And some more PIE! And the Ham, pie, pie and pie. What kind? Oh the left side of the pie case will do just fine.

Galaxy- After picking myself up off the floor from laughing. I sobered up and realized you have quoted MANY a conversation around here. Usually they are in a different order such as

Starts with 5 Then Me saying :what” then 6, then me saying “what” then her saying 9, 4. Me again ”what”. Then 3, 7, 1. And this all happens in 2.

Ray- We have something that goes 0-200 in less than three seconds. The wife’s blood pressure. After I say “And…. You want me to do…what?” POW! 200!

Robby -Nice Job!

I’ll go set with the others and see what’s going on with PIE

Sawyer: You may not be an idiot, but just because you 5'11'' and 188 doesn't mean your invincible. At 5'7'' and 150 I can take down my friend Victor who is 5'11'' and 217... And he's a noseguard. Looks like we share school colors, my school is green and gold. So is the highschool... Good thing the pack is one of my favorite teams.

I know Mark, I was just joking around. And you have to admit, it does make someone not want to mess with you though.

I thought you were a cowboys fan Big Smile (Packers and Cowboys have met quite a few times in the playoffs).

Ahh the good ole' diner.  I don't come in as much, why who knows.  I need to get in more.  Plus I need to catch up.  I am a few pages behind.

Let me try to catch up with whats been going on with me.  Lets see........

The cocker spaniel got in the candy while I was in the basement.  I wasn't to happy but it was my fault.

Finally stop snowing.  What we have is good for now.

Um........Really not much.

Ok heres the latest "weathered" car.  I gave it a good fade, and some rust.  Theres still the roof, the other side, the underneath, wheels.....well you get the point.

Before:

After (as of right now):

The last shot is a close up of the rust.  Still kinda wet, sorry about that.  I guess it would look better dry.

I will be back in later.

She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3
Seconds.'

I bought her a scale.

Hi guys.

HAwaiian Kona coffee in a Chessie Mug

And Pasghetti with my homemade sauce please.

I wish the temp would get to 20 and above and STAY there for while. That way we could stop dripping the faucets and not have to worry about frozen drain pipes!! Friday is supposed to be a whole 34*, then drop down to negative numbers and single digits again.

Where is our January thaw already?????

Here's something to think about:

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
(1)   Fine :   This is the word women use to end an argument when  they are right and you need to shut up.
(2)   Five Minutes :   If she is getting dressed, this means a  half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3)   Nothing :   This is the calm before the storm. This means  something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4)   G o Ahead :   This is a dar e, not permission. Don't Do  It!
(5)   Loud Sigh :   This isn't actually a word, but is a non-verbal  statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6)   That's Okay :   This is one of the most dangerous statements  a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7)   Thanks :   A woman is thanking you, do not question, or  faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarca sm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').
(8)   Whatever :   Is a woman's way of  saying   I hate   YOU!
(9)   Don't worry about it, I got it :   Another dangerous  statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

refill, please & thanks.

Finally something MRR related to report on. On a whim, I recently purchased a very old (N) Bachmann Docksider, the one with all the delicate black plastic gearing. Mind you, I sold off 3 Docksiders previously during my "upgrade period". So anyway, in spite of a mouse eaten box, with a drop of various labelle oils here & there, returned it to running health. Only damage done was breaking a step getting the shell off, so need to carefully glue it back on. Even though it is unlikely I'll run it on the future layout, I have always loved the look of those things. Sure wish someone would start producing them again with all new modern technology.

Hope everyone is doing well today. Cowboy Rob
