I am one of ten built in my class for my railroad.

I hauled passengers on the Shoreline Route between Boston and New York City.

I was built by Baldwin in 1937.

My most unusual feature are my wheels.

I was last used in 1950.

What class and wheel arrangement am I? The railroad is obvious.

Yeah, Well it took me long enough! LOL! [:D]

I do have the book : "Steam Locomotives of the Burlington Route" by Corbin and Kerka 1978. Nice informative book.

Close.
Now we have both the right road and type. But now we need to get the right class. the Q only had 5 classes of Mikes (1 of which was already guessed), so would another person guess?

To NEw Haven Guy and Aggro: No, again!

I'getting impatient to give the mystery locomotive to someone else, so here's some more clues:

I was made by Baldwin. During WWII my wheel arrangement was known as a "McArthur" on the B&O and UP. My design makes me look low to the ground.

I have no clue to ANY of the locos, I might as well be guessing the type of African steam monster 4-8-8-2-8-8-4's, but PLEASE keep posting photos of those old beautiful steamers. Keith

To Aggro's reply: No!

This engine doesn't operate on any Q subsidiaries, and it's found mostly east o the Missouri River, however the Q did have them on its western divisions.

in their last days, they operated on locals between Galesburg and Burlington, and the Southern Illinois coal fields.

I haven't done a mystery loco for a while so here goes....

I am a very common engine of my type on the road that rosters me, I am the most common class in my wheel arrangement on my home road, and probably the most common of any class of steamer on my home road.

Two very distinctive features I have: a large Elesco FWH and close-together sand and steam domes.

Most of us were coal burners that saw service on most of our home roads mainlines, but 4 of us were oil burners.

One of our last assignments was hauling coal trains, however we were not desinged for that purpose. (a.k.a. I'm a general purpose steamer.)

Of course, what else could it be!

I have a German book that claims it made 141 mph with an ICC inspector on board, during the war!
