I'm using Firefox 3. The photos (large ones) are resized to a small size and have a banner that when clicked open a new tab showing the photo in it's full size. When I come back the resized photos are still shown in the small resized format.

I can't make rhyme or reason out of it... when I first come to the thread, the images are smaller and have the banner.  If I click on one of them, that one enlarges.  I go away, then return to find that all images are huge and the text goes off to the right, out of sight.  I am using IE7.

-Crandell

I agree, the situation is down right bizarre. Recently I observed the same odd problem after clicking on the banner to enlarge an image and then returning...but that's stopped now for me. However, it does still occur if I happen to refresh a page, with the images then about doubling in size and the text becoming wider than the screen. Another great inovation with the forum's new system.

Luke, if you don't want to get a tripod or otherwise improve your pics, don't post any.  This is not meant to be mean, but when we see such poor quality pics, it is a reflection on the person posting.  If you can't afford a tripod, get a bean bag, put it on a ladder/chair/table/the layout, or anything solid and take your pics that way.  Reading the camera's owner's manual will often give you pointers on taking better pics - (is there a close-up setting for your camera?)  It looks like you might have done a good job, but we really can't tell from your post.  Keep trying Smile

This happens constantly.  Just now I had WPF pg 2 and all the images were BIG.  When I went to pg 3 they were "normal" size - if anything is "normal" for the new forum!!!  Speed has improved, but it is still very lacking!!!Mischief

Might I make a suggestion ?

Is there any way for people to post thumbnails of their photos which we can click-to-enlarge ?  These "super size" photos are way too large and make the page so wide it doesn't fit on the screen (I have to scroll right to see everything).

If posters can't use thumbnails, perhaps the forum software can automatically resize the images ?

It's funny, sometimes they re-size, sometimes they don't, lol. Kinda funny in a way. And Luke, nice work on those drivers.

Thanks, Luke...I can now appreciate what you wanted to show us.  Nice photo of a nice engine!!  I wouldn't mind such a model myself...maybe some day.

-Crandell

Thanks for the comment Crandell! It is a Bachmann Berkshire (2-8-4). Mine is the model of the New York,Chicago, & St. Louis ( Nickel Plate) 765 S2 class. You can get it for US $94. I know you live in Canada, so the loco would not be cheap to get it across the border

You are welcome, Luke.  I recognize a Berk when I see that configuration of a sand dome and pipes plus the 8 drivers.  Again, thanks for taking the time to help me appreciate your fine engine.

Here is my continuation of trying to get the sentimental look with faded photos.

Nice photo!  Like the K4 (built in PRR's shops). Like the fading.

Oooh, love those Alcos.  Thanks for another peek into history.

Our good camera has gone on the fritz, so I took this one with my daughter's bargain camera.

The building is from my teenage layout, and I got it from a yard sale collection.  It's the only one from that layout that had an interior, and the last of the 3 that I was able to save that have made it to the 21st century.  It's an old kit, I suspect, called the Java Dive from its original signs.  I've put it under new management, as a clam bar named Lady Bucs.  That's the logo of my daughter's high school lacrosse team.  I scratch-built the surrounding deck and railings.  The tables and chairs are Preiser, and most of the figures are Woodland Scenics.  This will be on the water, so there's still considerable scenery to do all around it.

I'm not experiencing this with IE7, they are small with the banner above the photo. If your on dial up, they will load the way you describe until the page is complete, then they will thumbnail.

Firefox is ok, but it doesn't fix everything. Dunce

On firefox, the images come in large format while they load. Then they reduce to the smaller size with the caption to click on for the larger image. This opens in a new tag.

I have slow broadband, so a page with lots of images takes some time to load, whereas pages with lots of words are much quicker. Maybe this is what some people are experiencing. Oh yeah, my images have to cross the Pacific Ocean to get to Australia too.

I'm using the highspeed connection and IE6 at work (I have dial-up at home, so this site takes forever to load).  For some reason, some photos are re-sized smaller ("click-to-enlarge") and others are not.

Luke, on the cost of a tripod at Wall Mart they are cheap! last time I looked between $15.00 to $35.00, now up north it could be different. I use mine with HP 720 that is only 3.2 meg a pixels with the flash off. With flash off it has a slower shutter speed so it must be rock solid. I then use my sot ware to zoom in and crop.

 Last picture looked pretty good.

well it's not good enough for the railpictures site, but here's a few I shot friday:

A buddy of mine is a talented artist, and made me exact copies of the 2 Chesapeake and Allbemarle units that wear the C&A colors (the rest are in Rail-tex livery). My units spent the afternoon getting acquainted with their real-life counterparts. (with permission of course!)

So now the models need to be modified to show the models on the nose of the prototype.  With great close ups of the originals, the weathering of the models can be matched precisely.

I'm probably the only one here who wants this, but I would like to turn off the shrinking completely.  Since they're already loaded full size, it's a waste of time to have to open and close new tabs all the time.

Having them load like this and then shrink is really accomplishing nothing for the crowd with older computers/slower connctions though.  In fact, it might be hampering their performance more than just loading up the pics as they are.
