Two weeks after the local MRR clubs open house, I got an e-mail with some pictures, had one of one of the trains I ran.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

On firefox, the images come in large format while they load. Then they reduce to the smaller size with the caption to click on for the larger image. This opens in a new tag.

I'm probably the only one here who wants this, but I would like to turn off the shrinking completely.  Since they're already loaded full size, it's a waste of time to have to open and close new tabs all the time.

Having them load like this and then shrink is really accomplishing nothing for the crowd with older computers/slower connctions though.  In fact, it might be hampering their performance more than just loading up the pics as they are.

The problem with full-size images is that they make the page too wide to display on the monitor forcing the use of the horizontal scroll bar.  That is what I was "complaining" about in my earlier posts.

As for "wasting time to open and close new tabs," one would have the option to open each tab, not the obligation to do so.  Therefore, the time "wasted" would be optional.  Besides, it takes but a second (or less) for the enlarged image to appear.

Same here!   I get a warm and fuzzy from posts like Sue's and Lee's, and several others earlier, showing that folks have gotten bitten again and are turning their creative juices up.  It is that time of year, after all, and I get the sense some folks are getting interested in modelling.  Nice to see the progress.

A good weekend, absolutely.  Thanks, everyone.

I got pretty busy on the layout again this week.  Started hacking up a couple more hopper rebuilds, fixed a couple of pesky electrical problems around the staging yard, and got a nice job installing a bunch of decoders for a guy out in Minnesota.

I also got a couple of back to back nights of running some trains in...  Friday night one of my regular crew, Brian stopped by to goof around for awhile, and Saturday night, I got a visit from a couple of guys I hadn't seen in decades...

What a great treat! Two of my old mentors from the BSME stopped by to see my layout. I hadn't seen these guys in probably 25 years. At right is Charlie Hill, who introduced me to prototypical operations on his layout, the Hillside Central, back in the early 80's. In the middle is Greg Shindledecker and his wife Angel. Greg used to have a pretty well developed free-lance road, the Maryland and Delta. He's now working on an HO WM layout. At left is Charlie's friend Jeff, who I met for the first time, but was just as fun as the rest of them.
Greg and I reconnected after stumbling across each other's work over on the MR Forum.  They were nearby visiting a layout about 45 minutes from my house, and decided to drop by.  We went out for some tasty Mexican, then spent an hour or so running some WM fast freights.

I also dragged the K-2 project back out.  After getting some photos of the prototype at Hagerstown, I realized my oil bunker wasn't quite right.

... now the front of the bunker looks closer to the prototype. I added the gigantic valve wheel (a brake wheel) to add a little something... The feed pipe is about where it's supposed to be though. Overall I shortened the bunker to get it out from under the cab roof, and changed the plastic walkway for an etched brass one. Much better!

Still need to tidy up a couple of seams... but overall it looks much better.

Thanks, Crandell.  It has been a long haul.  He started it last Christmas.  I am crossing my fingers for this Christmas.

The next stage is the ground goop.  The girder and bridge deck is just sitting in place.

I spent today at a train show in Batavia, NY.  The Lakeshores Division, NMRA had a Modeler's Corner at the show.  Several of us just sat and worked on various projects for the day.  Harold Russell (MMR #14) was there working on a hand laid Turnout in O scale.  The Master's Hands at work:

Rich W. was doing some decal work on some cars:

Sue, you and Larry are producing a very interesting and fine layout. Cool

I like the looks of the trestle.  I'll bet it has been a challenge for Larry, but I assure him it looks really good. Does he do contracts?

Matt, what do you think of the Class A? I am guessing the one next to it is a PK Y6-b, what do you think of it? I have a PCM Y6b and it pulls like a bear.

So now the models need to be modified to show the models on the nose of the prototype.  With great close ups of the originals, the weathering of the models can be matched precisely.

Proud to be DD-2itized! 1:1 scale is too unrealistic. Twins are twice as nice!

well it's not good enough for the railpictures site, but here's a few I shot friday:

A buddy of mine is a talented artist, and made me exact copies of the 2 Chesapeake and Allbemarle units that wear the C&A colors (the rest are in Rail-tex livery). My units spent the afternoon getting acquainted with their real-life counterparts. (with permission of course!)

Luke, on the cost of a tripod at Wall Mart they are cheap! last time I looked between $15.00 to $35.00, now up north it could be different. I use mine with HP 720 that is only 3.2 meg a pixels with the flash off. With flash off it has a slower shutter speed so it must be rock solid. I then use my sot ware to zoom in and crop.

 Last picture looked pretty good.

Might I make a suggestion ?

Is there any way for people to post thumbnails of their photos which we can click-to-enlarge ?  These "super size" photos are way too large and make the page so wide it doesn't fit on the screen (I have to scroll right to see everything).

If posters can't use thumbnails, perhaps the forum software can automatically resize the images ?

It's funny, sometimes they re-size, sometimes they don't, lol. Kinda funny in a way. And Luke, nice work on those drivers.

I'm using the highspeed connection and IE6 at work (I have dial-up at home, so this site takes forever to load).  For some reason, some photos are re-sized smaller ("click-to-enlarge") and others are not.

I have slow broadband, so a page with lots of images takes some time to load, whereas pages with lots of words are much quicker. Maybe this is what some people are experiencing. Oh yeah, my images have to cross the Pacific Ocean to get to Australia too.

I'm not experiencing this with IE7, they are small with the banner above the photo. If your on dial up, they will load the way you describe until the page is complete, then they will thumbnail.

Firefox is ok, but it doesn't fix everything. Dunce

Oooh, love those Alcos.  Thanks for another peek into history.

Our good camera has gone on the fritz, so I took this one with my daughter's bargain camera.

The building is from my teenage layout, and I got it from a yard sale collection.  It's the only one from that layout that had an interior, and the last of the 3 that I was able to save that have made it to the 21st century.  It's an old kit, I suspect, called the Java Dive from its original signs.  I've put it under new management, as a clam bar named Lady Bucs.  That's the logo of my daughter's high school lacrosse team.  I scratch-built the surrounding deck and railings.  The tables and chairs are Preiser, and most of the figures are Woodland Scenics.  This will be on the water, so there's still considerable scenery to do all around it.
