History Channel "Extreme Trains"
Posted by topcopdoc on Saturday, November 1, 2008 10:51 AM

The History Channel has a new series starting November 11, 2008 @ 10pm called Extreme Trains.

Doc

 ABOUT THE SHOW

EXTREME TRAINS, hosted by real-life train conductor Matt Bown, reveals the incredible inner workings and past lives of the amazing locomotives that haul huge loads across the nation and deliver passengers to their destinations. The series shows the huge part these trains have played in shaping American history--and how vital trains are to American life today.

PREMIERE EPISODE

Coal Trains
Premieres Tuesday, November 11 at 10pm ET/9C
In the premiere episode, Matt joins the coal train hauling a priceless cargo of coal through Pennsylvania from mine to power plant. Getting the train, which weighs 1,400 tons when full, over the Allegheny mountains can be quite a challenge. Matt pitches in with the crew as they load up the train and learns how the *** tried to blow the tracks during World War II.

This has got to be at least the third thread on this subject since after the beginning of this week.  Where is the search function?

Doesn't matter--people won't use it anyway.

How many posts have you seen about "how to lay track?"

People are too lazy to look things up.

My point was I wouldn't have started the second thread on the subject if I'd known of the existence of the first, and perhaps the person starting this thread wouldn't have either if he had known too.  Smile

BTW, on the History Channel web site they have some clips from the show. Based on the content of those, if you know a lot about how trains work, some of the material may seem pretty simplistic, but it still looks interesting. I will be watching.

The info is good but he is a pain. Talk about hand waving. Might make a good lawyer also.

I have to agree... I also don't like the way they're speeding up the tape on everything...  Looks like a bloody Lionel layout!

I hope the cab ride around the curve is a little more subdued...

I suppose they're playing to an audience not made up of railfans...

There are only 2 pushers...a pair of SD40-2's. That would be 6,000 HP.

There's 2 SD40's which are 3000 (I think) HP each.

I'm disappointed in his brake shoe changing skills. At Railcamp I changed a brake shoe faster than he did. Then again, he works for Guilford... "Brakes? What Brakes?" We'll just stick our boot out in front and stop it!"

They must be showing footage of different coal trains. I thought I saw 4 pushers in one of the arial shots.
I was hoping a spike would fly out and hit him in the mouth!Laugh I don't think I'd even act like THAT big a noob going around the shoe. I feel sorry for the crews that have to deal with him.

I guess the History Channel thinks we all have A.D.D. My stepson and I watch with the TV on Mute and on screen text. Makes the program bearable. I might give up on this series if this guy is in all of them. It must be a headache with sound on. Oh well. back to the Weather Channel.

He sounds like Billy Mays...  "That's Amazing!"  But wait!  If you order now, I'll send you another pack of wonder widgets at no extra cost!  That's a $14.99 Value!"

He could also be played by Will Farrell...

He's afraid of climbing the Alleghenies? The guy's going to need smelling salts if he ever rides through the Canadian Rockies. And how many times did he say "THE Horseshoe Curve," instead of just Horseshoe Curve? I'd love to hear the pusher engineer's thoughts. What a doofus. Dunce
