Mine is from a full screen logo that was created to be the background of our club's sign.  All I did was put it into Microsoft Picture It and convert to a different format.  Kalmbach's server reduced it to the proper size to be an Avatar.

IHC 4-8-2 kitbashed into a CPR 4-8-4

I think there's something wild and wonderful going on between you talented Canadian modelers and IHC steam locos--that's about the FOURTH conversion I've seen of an IHC loco into either a CP or CN loco, and all of them are WONDERFUL!

Hats off!  Bow

Okay, here's my avatar pic:

That's a New Haven CPA24-5 in McGinnis colors.  I'm going to change it one of these days, when I find something a little more colorful that looks good as an avatar.

I would, but the new Forum doesn't want to let me load up my old Picture Trail photos.  So I'll have to remain with my teeny-tiny Yellowstone for now, LOL!

Well, ok.  If you  twist my arm.  I hadn't bothered with an avatar before now, so I will just be one of those guys who puts up a real picture of themselves.

Here I am on my way down to the basement to do some more speed matching of locos before dinner.

(sorry can't seem to make the big picure load, but yes that is me...in some respects)

The BIG picture - let us actually SEE your Avatar

With the big gray guy suddenly gaining prominence as our new forum mascot, more of us than ever before are choosing to upload Avatars instead.  But, these are often tiny pictures, and we can't enlarge them.  Besides, they are highly compressed, and wouldn't look good even if you could enlarge them.  So, this is the original shot that I extracted my Avatar from:

Anybody else want to give us an enlarged (or at least enlargeable) view of their Avatars?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
