Good Morning All!
hot Coffee please. A nippy one on the Bike this sunny but cold a.m. Yes Der John there was more of that frost on the ground and it' time for me to worry about the puddles freezing! As to the actual date of the show I'm not sure but pretty certain it is Mid November. I'll find out and let you and Luc know!
Duce! Glad you made it back always curious as to where some of our dearly departed have drifted off to. Yes there are some of the "older Crowd" still around. RT is working these days so we don't get to see him much. Ed hasn't been in in quite awhile, speaking of which ... We still getting his OJ shipments? Mr. Powell still gets in from time to time and I get to talk to Teffy on the phone once in awhile.
Ken: Sounds like things are still happening on the MR. hopefully you can share more of your goings on with us. Excellent job on the fuelling cranes! Believe it or not I've had to expand my yard to include a fueling bay. Yes I have a handful of transition diesels now but I also have several oil burning steamers These things! They're like rabbits and multiply when my back is turned ( Or so I tell my wife).
Lee: That's not a name I'm familiar with but then again the spelling could be throwing me off. I know Captain Wade Spurrell. Canada has 5 Coast Guard Regions with little interaction sad to say (very proprietory).
Garry: Thanks for the fotos! Some Great Shots for sure.
Morgan: Well done and if your having fun that's the main thing. As our Rugby coach said frequently " If you do your best that's what matters the most, Not winning, not loosing" Of all the sports I played I enjoyed that one the most probably because of the coach I had.
Well guys times up and outta here as I have another physio appointment yet again This getting old really Sux!
and Richard did I miss ya... Nah Just wanted to do the "Sha na na naa hey hey say..." on the table for ya! Maybe next year

Good morning, All. I will slide into this back corner booth again. I can't stay as long as I did yesterday. Did I hear that Fergie is buying? Thanks for your generosity.
I have been laying awake trying to decide which project to work on next. I guess that my kitbashed background buildings should come next.
There is ice on the car windsheild this morning so I need to keep moving.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Morning all. It's break time here at BDD so I thought I would stop in for a snack for a change instead of just looking through the window.
Haven't stopped in for a few months because things have been really crazy. About two days after I met Duke at Steamtown my central air decided to quit working. Right in the middle of the summer's worst heat wave. The repairman said it would be at least $1500 to fix and recommended replacing it since it was so old. Since I planned to replace the AC and oil hot water heat next year with a geothermal heat pump anyway, I just moved that up to now. I spent the next two months installing a new water heater (tankless) since the old funace heated the domestic hot water, found out I had an out of production circuit breaker box because the breakers are a fire hazard. Replaced the breaker box, took out the old hot water radiators and all the associated plumbing for them and did the plumbing for the water heater. The heat pump was up and running about four weeks ago and I've been tying up loose ends. In the middle of it all Pat (the fiance) and her son moved in with me and we have been trying to compress two households of funiture into one. Still working on that one. We are having new carpet installed in a week or two and have to do some painting first. I never seems to end.
Welcome back Cary and Ken. It's good to see some of the "old" faces returning.
Oops, break is over. See you later.
Fergi, Captain Wade Spurrell that's who it was, nice guy.

Happy TGIF, club dwellers! Since Fergie’s picking up the tab today, I’ll order a late brunch of Canadian Bacon and a vegetarian omellette.
Thanx everybody, for the kind words about my fuel cranes!
LSWrr…last night; a Digitrax Empire builder new in the box, with a 1 year warranty sold for $150.00. …
Lee, sorry to hear that! But then again, it makes you wonder why was the thing selling for so cheap in the first place? Probably because, unlike its siblings (Zephyr and SuperChief), it lacks read/write programming capability. I depend heavily on being able to see exactly what I’ve got stored in my CV’s before I accidentally clobber them. Click here to read the warning on Tonys Train Exchange website concerning the Empire Builder (you’ll need to scroll down to the middle of the page to see it).
Fergie – seems more like those brass locos multiply when Lisa’s back is turned! I used to have a similar problem, that’s why I took all of my credit cards out of my wallet!
Duke, that’s one sweet-looking coal tower you’ve built there!
…which reminds me: hey Jeff, when you gonna post some more pics of your ‘derelict’ coal tower with the collapsed roof?
Attaboy, great to see ya! That does sound like a thankless job you’ve been having to do these past months. Sort of reminds me of when I was upgrading my garage to convert it to a year ‘round trainroom 3 years ago.

What the heck! Here's some more progress on the coaling station. The rafters have been weathered and the sheet metal for the roof has been cut to size.
Page 2? BUMP!
Photos of further progress on the caoling station are on page 1 of the WPF.
What??? I was TOTP last night?? Just look at that bar bill!!!!! That will teach me not check before leaving the Diner!! The wood stove kept us warm last night, no need to turn on the thermostats for oil fired heat support yet.
A beauty of a day here today, but going downhill now as a storm approaches for tomorrow afternoon and evening with heavy rains. Good day for MRR progress.
Another young man injured on tracks in MA near the south shore, walking on the tracks with headphones ON, smart, REAL SMART!
ATTABOY: Let me guess what the Mfgr of the Circuit breakers are that are a fire hazard: Federal Pacific? I changed out three panels in my house two years ago, all Federal Pacific installed in the late 60's. After what I read online I replaced them real fast.
SUE: Glad to hear that you are enjoying " White Cascade". I know that any of the Diners who like to read and even those that don't, would find it hard to put this book down.
On another note, I was helping my wife cut back all the plants out in the yard today, and when we got to one plant, I really took notice. The plant is called "Astilbe", and it has these flower stems at the end that are about as perfect as I have ever seen for making trees. Using the hairspray technique, these would make the best trees that I have see thus far. I am going to use them next year for sure.
FERGIE: Christmas is coming, better be nice !
JEFF: A coaling tower? You are a Diesel man, what is going on?
DUKE: Better behave, Faye is keeping an eye on you!!

It's an abandoned structure, not used in decades.

Ok, maybe Jeff can answer this one????
How do I pull one of the flywheels off this monster?

Lee
Lee: I would use a wide bladed flat tip screwdriver to CAREFULLY pry the flywheels off. Do it very slowly because if you break either end of the motors casing that's all she wrote.
Evening, Chloe, just stopping by for a hot cocoa to go, please. Thanks.
Was on-call last night (Thursday) - got all of 2-1/2 to 3 hours sleep. We'll just say I was out for longer than I needed to have been, and finished up about 1 hour before my usual alarm-going-off time of the morning. I was able to arrange with my supervisor and co-worker in crisis, so I got off early. Went home and got another 3 hours this afternoon/evening. Still tired, but will be going to be earlier than usual tonight. I'll have to go through the posts in the morning, while I'm doing laundry (they have WiFi ).
Hope everyone has been doing well. Morgan, congrats on your team's win. Duce, good to see you back! [welcome] Prayers for those in need, and a good night's sleep for us all. Time for some now ....
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening Gang: I turned over the two gons and flat car and sprayed the top sides. I also sprayed another coat on the gons floor pieces.
Not much else has been going on.
When I put the cusor on the post space the right matgin line disappeared. I've got to get ahold of my friend and see what the Int Ex is, 7 or 8.
Well I'm going to hit the sack.

Good morning everybody. Nice and rainy here today in southwestern pa.
I guess I need to finish up my boxcar this morning. I still have to weather up the trucks, wheels, few small details. I will get some shots in the WPF later today.
Jeffery I love the roof on you old coal tower. I was thinking. that something like that might look good in my small junk yard. I will have to find your old post on how you made them.
Have a good day everybody.

Just thought I'd drop by and leave something to think about.
Our Tax System Explained: Bar Stool EconomicsSuppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1.The sixth would pay $3.The seventh would pay $7.The eighth would pay $12.The ninth would pay $18.The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!''Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' 'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!''Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier. David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D.Professor of EconomicsUniversity of GeorgiaFor those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible.

Robby P: The roof panels were made by molding aluminum foil to the contours of the original roof of the structure. The foil sheets were then painted in rust colors and allowed to dry. They were then cut into 4 x 10 scale sheets.

OK, this weekend I need to focus on some good housekeeping in the train room since we are having a small work-operating session on Thursday.
Good Morning, Gang. I am sliding into the back booth. We will see if anyone shows up for coffee. I am buying waffles for everyone.
Looks like you in the northeast are getting hammered. We are due for another uneventful weather day. I am waiting for daylight so I can do some outdoor chores.
Duke, Thanks for the prodding with the coaling tower. I agree, running the lines will probably cross my eyes. Small hands will be helpful for sure.
Jeff, Which coaling tower are you working on? You have done well to keep us up on your progress. The rusted tin is a nice touch.
Dick, I need more light to read than I used to, so I don't get locked into books very often. The Astilbe does make good trees. My friend who saves the Sedum for me has a weed which is very similar that she spray paints for Christmas weath decoration. I put ground foam on some of her leftovers, and they made good filler trees.
