How about a sweet tea, and some time to look at the menu.

Well no flurries yet.  Its cold but no flurries.  Maybe soon.

Lets se, what I have done so far today.  I weathered up a Railbox I have been working on since this weekend.  I will probably work on the layout tomorrow.  I need some ideas on a corner of my layout.  I will probably look through some mags tonite for some idea.

Keep warm everybody.  It seems to be cold all over the US.

Jeff, Check your email.  I just happen to have an AMTRAK FP40 A-B set that didn’t go on the bay.  My Daughter was into the passenger service stuff on the railroad so I bought them for her, but they only got enough time running for break-in since she preferred the steam locomotives.  Been sitting on the living room shelf for 5 years.  I ran them last weekend and they performed like I just took them out of the box.

Lee: Check your email. I sent a reply back to you.

Wow..... Does anyone remember me?????

Hey Jeff, Phillip, and everyone else it's been a while scence I been here so I need to do some catching up to do.

As for me well I got a new PRR engine, It's a 6 axel, big headlights on both front and rear, looks like it an EMD but it could be ALCO. My layout is comming along great, I've started building my own electrical poles and wire, I've had to relay some more track, repaint some road lines, work on improving the hills and general up keep. Swim season for High School starts soon, and the local Y swim team has already started it's season. and today there a swim team meeting after school and I'll get to meeting the new swim coach and see who will be on the team.

Der, I mailed out your package you should see it on or about Monday.  It was only $2 so don’t worry about the postage.  Sorry for the delay I haven’t mailed out many international packages.

Jim, I have a small collection of crooked prototype track to show those who scoff at some of my crooked track, LOL.  I can’t lay track as crooked as the real railroads because the models won’t tolerate it, LOL!

Wow, page two again. I'll have a vanilla shake and a pastrami on rye with swiss please Zoe.

My mould for the portal came out well and the plaster parts are under way. I mix and pour then cut and grind (an axel) while waiting for the plaster to set. I need to make 8 plus a couple of spares for the usual breakage.

Jerry sounds like good progress. Will we see some pics of the finished project?

Dick - snow already? Please keep it out of yankeeland (I prefer to think of this as Giants land though). Glad to hear you're getting a chance to do some layout work again. With subgrade rooms, little ventilation and lots of rock have you gotten a radon test kit yet?

Well back to the grinding and pouring.    J.R.

Good morning, 45F here this morning, raining, heavy low clouds, and 50MPH winds due here later along with s..n..o..w. The Jotul stove is fired up and cranking out heat with a pot of coffee brewing on the top, and the aroma of wood stove heated coffee throughout the house. I will be working in the MRR workshop today for sure..YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS.

FERGIE: That is a DOG??? I thought it was a cat on steroids!!!!!!Smile,Wink, & Grin A NEW TRUCK??? Did you get a raise??? Actually, the prices on trucks are outstanding with the economy tanked. Ford F150's are selling for $11,500 here...brand new.

JEFF: YANKEE??????? ED, J.P., did you hear that ?? PLEASE, don't call us YANKEES, they only reside in New Yaark, this is Red Sox country in New England with the possible exception of far SW CT. I'll have the sandwich you designed for lunch, that looks out of this world!!!

JIM: Nope, no shelf RR for workshop at this time. I will have a programming track however either on the first shelf or on the back section of the workbench. My original workbench was/is in the train room, but the ventillation in that 10.5' X 27' room with one door and no windows scares me a bit. This room on the lower level of the house is off the utility room which also has no windows, but at least has two doors. So I certainly would not like to be soldering, or painting in the Train room. I have a floor fan, but this is only a compromise and not the cure all.

PHIL: Get ready Flip, the snowbirds are headed south, the 1st snowfall is due here. Get the bus ready.

Later guys, time to get to the workshop,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Morning, Zoe - I'll have a JR (other JR Wink) regular please, glass of Ed's OJ, and some flapjacks with maple syrup and butter, please. Thank y'ma'am!

Jeff, I kinda like Lee's suggestion about getting the squirrels to move into your local internet booster box. My second choice would be the lightning rod, but then you'd need to pull the rod before the repair guy got there...Whistling Kinda Frustrating (putting it mildly) to have your internet go in and out like that.

I do not envy all of you Diners in the Northeast this morning, after seeing the weather this morning (and after reading Lee's weather report for the Lakes). I only had some very light frost on the car's roof and a slight coating on the rear window (which the defroster took off on the way to work). And it's even around 40 for Jeff and Terry this morning! Wow!!

Got gas before work, and it was nice to fill up for less than $30 (it was $2.29/gal. here today). Yeah!!

Lee, you'll notice I didn't say perfectly straight, as I only had about a two foot metal straight edge to align the track with. But I figure the prototype RR's have a little variation in their tracks, too (unless they're using laser levels nowadays). Our LHS owner/club member last night was also checking/redoing the 110 v lines under the layout to feed the DCC boosters for each section. Not sure if he got all of the sections done last night or not.

Ryan, you're making my mouth water with all the food descriptions and photos! And it's not even close to lunch yet - boy, is my stomach gonna be growling for some of that!Dinner

PC:

Terry - Fergie (Fergmeister) lives in Nova Scotia (and has the cute dachshund)Smile, while Bergie is Kalmbach's resident head IT/geek for the forum (and maybe other stuff as well). Didn't they give you the Diner and Forum scorecards when you first arrived at the Diner? Zoe - get this man his scorecards, please. Wink

I'll be in the back helping Terry decipher the scorecard (and w**king on my breakfast).

Blessings and some dry spots for our Nor'eastern Diners (to avoid the rain/snow/sleet/whatever) today,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Have you ever thought about adding Amtrak service to your layout?

Nope. Amtrak doesn't run in this area. Once in a GREAT while you might see an older Amtrak loco in a KCS lashup, but don't hold your breath while you wait.

***However if somebody were to offer me an Amtrak loco I might reconsider***

Jeff, I was having the same problem when I lived in South TX.  Lo and behold the big junction box had a bad door seal and everything inside it was wet (neighbor worked for the phone company) once they weather proofed everything we never had another problem.  I’m glad the Doctor visits are out of the way.  I have to start my every 5 year military physical next month that will be about 6 different doctor visits over 4 months.

Have you ever thought about adding Amtrak service to your layout?

Jim, good luck on keeping the track straight, I used chalk lines, a steel rule and I still manage to lay crooked track.

Paul,

Good Morning All,

A rainy 40 or so this morning, sun's not up yet so it's just dank and dark at once. Lots to do again today with the shop and house both vying for attention. I'm glad I'm not retired so I have the time to do all this. Did get a mould box form made and used the blue silicone rubber kit from micro-mark to make a mould of the chooch O-scale tunnel portal so i can make plaster copies. I also have some casting resin to try as I've never done that before.

Jeff - maybe you should just find the offending bit of equipment and fit it with an ungrounded lightning rod and wait for one of your all too frequent storms. or get a family of squirrels to move into the equipment box. Whistling It must be fustrating for you when they keep trying to jury rig the same piece of equipment over and over again.

Well, gotta run and get into the shop before the rest show up.    CUL, J.R.

 Good morning.

It's 39 and clear. That Yankee weather is making itself felt way down here in the south. The high will be in the low 60's and it will be sunny.

Got both of my doctors visits wrapped up in the morning yesterday and got home to find that the high-speed internet service was offline. So what else is new! I spent almost two hours on the phone talking to a tech in Tyler who seemed intent on proving that the problem was with my system, even after I had already told him that everyone else out here was out as well. He checked the status of my modem and didn't get any signal back, little wonder since no signal was getting through to it. I had him check the status of my parents modem (I know it was on because I was looking right at it, as I was using their phone) and he got the same results. I asked him what does it signify when you get the exact same result on two completely independent systems 1/8th of a mile apart and he agreed with me that it's got to be a problem upline of our location. The nets up now, barely. It's running about 1/3rd speed on download and upload. A tech is supposed to be coming today to look into the problem. Usually that means they make adjuments on the piece of equipment causing the problem and it's OK until the next time the weather changes (about a week).

Jeff, how'd your doctors' visits go today? Good word, hopefully.

Doctors visits went OK. I got them both wrapped up this morning so I wouldn't have to make another trip into town. Got home and found that the cable internet was out - again! It stayed out until about 9 pm and is still having speed problems. Someday someboby is going to put a load of buckshot into the booster that's causing these problems, then the company will HAVE to fix it.

Evening, Chloe - how about a grilled cheese sandwich with a hot cocoa, please? Thanks.

Sawyer, sounds like you did pretty well in return for helping your Grandma over the weekend. Good haul at the LHS, too. Thumbs Up

Mark, I think I've seen that sidewalk artist's stuff before, and he is fantastic! I'm sure a bunch of people going by do double-take after looking at it. Yeah!!

At our MRR club tonight, it was tracklaying time again - I laid three sidings (at the gravel plant location), and one of the approach tracks into the adjacent town. There, the track coming into the town goes from single layer cork, tapers down to the track being on bare plywood in the town area (but the gravel plant on the other end of town is on cork). Think I'm getting a little better on that (and keeping the track straight).

Also placed an order with our MRR club member/LHS owner for some things from the sale flyer that runs out on Friday. We'll see how much of it he can get for me Pretty much all of it on sale. I ordered a couple of the Fresh Cherries Ford pickups, some Scenemaster loads for freight cars, the deluxe Cushman scooter set, a Rix grain elevator (to go with some Rix siloes that I bought a bit back, and to go with the Farmers' Co-Op Grain Elevator kit), some W-S figures (newsstand and depot people) and the Durango Press mining equip. set with the 18" gauge track. Oh yeah, and a bulk transfer conveyor kit (for my coal stop).

So, Dick - are you going for a double decker layout, and you want to run another level above your tables? I know what you mean about never too much layout room...Whistling And hey! - dachshunds are cute little dogs! (I had one when I was young)Wink

I'll be at the table by the potbellied stove, keeping my toes warm. We'll see how many dogs are needed for  the bed tonight. Not sure if we'll have frost in Cape G., as there're clouds and a fairly good clip of a wind for now.

Prayers for a warm spot to be tonight, and nobody having to dig out your vehicle in the morning.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening All,

Busy day today between meetings on the new shop, getting everything settled after the end of the season and getting the rest of the house emptying started. While I was lounging at the track this weekend, the CFO got the rest of the shingles on the shed roof so we can start filling it up which is what I did after w..k until dark arrived. Got most of the plastic boxes for the layout moved so tomorrow it'll be the drum sets and keyboards then the cabinets. once we get the rest of the "stuff"out it'll be back to stripping out the rest of the plaster lath walls. No end of fun but the demolition is getting easier with practice.

Interesting football game tonight - what Giants fan would'a thought Kerry Collins would be leading a 6-0 team? Oh well - time to get some sleep.   CUL, J.R.

Evening Gang: Well another day and it was cold this morning, 42 degrees to be precise. I got the floors installed in the two 50ft gons and finished blasting and painting the truck parts. I also found out that I am one pair of trucks short. At $350 a pair rtr that's serious. I have some old parts for non sprung trucks that I may use on the two 40 ft. gons since I'll be using them for ballast hauling. The lack of springing dosen't bother the ballast.

Duke if you get a piece of coal that's a start. Get enough coal and then say that you need a locomotive since it would be wastfull to not use the coal. That sounds sensibly to me.

Fergie: The winnie dog looks great. We have our daisy. She is black with some brown and a great little girl. They have the most worring look when they look at you.

Lee I see that alot of boats are heading for anchor. There are storm warmings out on Superior, Michigan, and Huron that I have heard. I guess that the Fitz has made an impression on folks.

Well I am going to hit the sack. Tomorrow I want to put the trucks back together and get them installed. Then I need to letter the cars and they are ready for the road.

Good Night All

Robby P.

GIVE ME some hot cocoa.  Its a cold one tonight.  The weather channel is saying 1-3 inches of snow, and the local channel is saying a inch.  So who knows.

I guess I will watch the Monday Night Football.  Steelers, just didn't do it yesterday.  This time next week they will be on MNF.  Playing the Skins.

  Everybody have a good night.

MNF is on the TV right now. It's cold here too, around 46 degrees Farenhiet. Of course, that's jeans and t-shirt weather for me, but I'll wear a hoody outside if i can, just to be real comfortable. I love it when it gets cold.

I'm baaaaaaaaack! Well, ok, I've been back for about a day, but I was to tired last night to drop by the diner (although I did drop by TMRP). Well, I worked my tail off this weekend, so my grandma gave me a $100 bill for my work (I would have worked just as hard for $0). My TV didn't work when we first got up there, so she was going to give me that to get a new one, and then it started working, but she gave me the money anyways. So, my parents made me save $20, but I ended up saving $23.something. So here's what I bought today:

At the LHS (Time Zone hobbies & Toys): 3 life-like shakers of turf (dark green, light green, light yellow), a fair sized bag of woodland scenics medium blended gray ballast, a tube of plastic cement, a paintbrush, 6 pieces of 6 in. straight Atlas code 80 snap track, and Great Model Railroads 2009. The guy there gave me a coupon a little early and let me use it, so I got $10 off what would have been a $60 purchase. I also took a peek at their locos, they had some Athearn SD70whatevers, a Life-like F40PH, an Atlas central of Georgia DCC equipped unit for $118 (I love atlas, but i don't need DCC. Probably would have begged my mom to let me buy the unit and not save anything if it was a $100 DC version), and some b-mann standard line I didn't even ask about, but I stuck w/ the scenery stuff.

Then I went to a store called Lids in the mall and bought a $27 Packers cap to replace my old one. I like it, and I still got the old one. Now, to come up w/ my RR's history and maybe ebay off the stuff I don't need (probably my GP30 and some frieght cars). I'll talk w/ them and our pastor (my dad's friend who bid on that GP35 for me) and see if he will sell the stuff for me. I don't think this would count as advertising, because I'm not actually sure if I can/will sell it.

Basketball season starts for us Nov. 5th. I'm just playing church league, so a practice, maybe two, on the weekdays, and then a game on Saturday. And my birthday is less than a month away (yay me, lol).

I was watching Sportscenter this morning, did you guys see the tampa bay-Dallas football game highlights on there. I was loling when I saw Cato June messing w/ Mark Columbo. June is a linebacker for Tampa Bay, and he's probably what, 5' 9", 5' 10" maybe, and Mark Columbo is an offensive lineman, probably wieghs about 150-200 lbs. more than June and oh, maybe 6, 7, 8 in. taller, and you see little June standing in front of the guy, and Columbo is towering over June, and Columbo is seriopuskly POed. I said it looks like David vs. Goliath, but David forgot his sling.

Colts-Titans tonight, wonder who'll win. I'm just watching it cause it's football.

Good evening to all, I'll have Ryan's Cajon style Baked Lasagna please.

The good weather is about to end here tonight, storms are abrewin, even snow in the forecast for late tomorrow in Wednesday.

In an attempt to get more shelf room in my MRR workshop, I decided to clear two shelves above the halfwall of many years accumulation of books. One row contains all the National Geographic mags from 1967 to present, and the second row contains a full set of Collier's Encyclopedias plus all the yearbooks to year 2000. I think I'll store them in attic as there doesn't seem to be a market for them presently.

JIM: Politicians giving us a nice raise?? You are correct my friend.

FERGIE: Whew, I thought you got another dog there for a minute, a rug rat no less. I knew you were a BIG DOG person.

DUKE: A lump of coal??? Have you been bad this year ???

FLU SHOT INFO: It is now recommended that older folks ( ROF's ) get a more potent larger flu shot. Why? Because as we get older our immune systems are not as strong as they were when we were younger, so the standard dose shots are not really strong enough to produce enough anti-bodies against the flu. Play it again Sam.

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!
