Jeff, that's good news. I ran those locomotives right before I put them in the box, they must have been dropped or something in transit. I'm glad you enjoyed the pices parts I tossed in there.

Lee: Just got the box. Thanks. Some of those bits and pieces are things I've been looking for for a while. The motor in the A unit was locked up but it didn't take but just a few minutes to tear it down and fix it. It runs good now. It took me all of about three seconds to surmise that these are Athearn BB units.
egmurphyThere were a couple of old diesels in parks in St John's that were badly in need of care and new homes. I believe, but I'm not sure, that one was in Bowring Park and one in Pippy Park. In any case, the folks up in Clarenville (an old division point) raised enough money to get one moved there. Here's number 900, an NF110, built in 1952 (delivered in 1953) by General Motors Ltd of Canada, Here's a head on view, showing the narrow track gauge. The other unit was moved to the Railway Coastal Museum in St John's. It's also an NF110, but until they finish the repainting (or until I get busy and check info on the Yahoo Group for the Nfld railway) I don't know what number she is. Also repainted in the original CN paint scheme.SBlank number boards. Has to be between 901 and 908. I'll find out sometime. Here are a couple of shots of those two cars behind the diesel in St John's. First is what I believe to be a diner. (Corrections and additional info welcomed). Looks like they have just done exterior cosmetic restoration. I have no info at this time if they have any ideas of restoring the cars inside. And here's the mail car. Here's a better shot of the museum building. This was built as the headquarters of the Reid Newfoundland Company, and new St John's station, in 1903. The Reid Newfoundland Company was the firm that built (most of) the railway and operated it up until government takeover (by mutual agreement) in 1923. It was refurbished a couple of years ago and now houses the archives of the City of St John's on the second floor, and the Railway Coastal Museum on the main floor.

Morning, Diners! Zoe, I think I'll have a plate like Jeff has there, please. Thanks!
Packers, sounds like a good op session at your club's layout (and good ideas on your few problem areas).
Sunny again here in Cape G., supposed to reach mid-70's today (again); almost as nice of weather as Ed's probably having down by the orange grove. Clear weather until Thursday, is what the weatherguessers are saying.
Paul, any idea of where the rat(s) got into the house? Like any gaps in the foundations, etc.? I'd be wanting to get any of those plugged up real quick. I too have noticed that I feel more tired in late October/early November when the light is chaning (and the time, on that Sunday).
Terry, I'd agree with what others have said - taking good care of yourself is job #1 for now, and if you feel up to the tour, or want to not tackle that yourself but help at a friend's layout, go with what'll do the least to wear you out (or will be more fun for you).
Fergie, can't tell too well from the photo - how does the new ship compare size-wize to your previous one? And will you be going as far out to sea as your last cruise was? On the curves, you're having me consider "How big IS the radius on my curves, and will that be big enough if I develop a craving for articulateds later...?"
JR, good to hear you're making progress on getting your layout stuff out. That was good that your bridges were at good places for separating sections. Otherwise in moving, they might've been damaged (even a little is too much).
Jeff, I like your work on that Shell tanker. I'm beginning to think you never mess(tm) up on MRR stuff (sorry, Fergie!)
CN Charlie, it looks like Zoe and the chef have your cake ready for you:
I'll join Jeff and JR there, Zoe, so just let us know once CN Charlie arrives and we'll have him cut the cake. Hey, JR, does that look like 29 candles on the cake?...
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good Morning All..Its sunny and 65 here posta hit 70's today..Great weather for the 1st part of November!,,Every day we get like this gives us a break on Gas bill...I'll have Biscuits and Gravey and coffee and put that on Jeff's tab...Please...Thank You...
I got roof cut and glued back together on HO kit bash...Its kinda hard to remeber cuts I made better than 30 years ago!....I finnished up IC caboose
No prototype for this..Just a fantasy paint job IC didn't have anything close to this
Ed......Thanks for photos..Keep them coming I enjoy seeing them....
Jeff...Nice weathering job on Shell tanker..Hope your feeling better..
Lee...Sorry to hear about your dog..Do you have anymore painting/decaling done?
Well I think I'll get out on power chair and enjoy the nice weather...You all have a good one....As they use to call me back in my DJ days..The Round Mound of Sound....Jerry
I see that Jeff is buying.......... I'll have Ed's OJ ( First Try) and Jeff's Biscuits and Gravy.
Be good people!

Thank you everyone for all the great BD wishes from Friday! Turns out that I did not have to cook for my BD since we ended up going out for lunch at the Mexican place Las Margaritas near our house and we were so full, just snacked later that evening.
My folks are in town and we've been touring around the area all weekend, went to Seagrove, NC to see all the pottery places and then to Replacements, LTD to see all the China and silverware too!
We went to dinner at the Bitzer's house last night, Don invented the plasma screen technology and won an Emmy for technical achievment in that a few years ago. I have never seen an Emmy before, just on the TV, they are bigger than I imagine. Really neat stuff! They have been friends of the family for many years and moved here in 1991 where he is a professor of enginerring at NC State University Department of Computer Science.
Well, I got to go for now....

Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and a danish please Zoe.
Lee - sorry to hear about your dog - it's been a bad time for pets here lately.
Ed - love the innovative rigging on the barge. Looks like it's kept up well also.
The problem with letting some fool hit you is you have no idea what will happen to you. It's a shame you damaged your car avoiding a crash, but the possibility of injury is real especially in a rear end collision. I had a very close call years ago while driving my friend home. We'd put his welding tanks in the trunk of my Mercury Capri not knowing any better and were stopped n Rt 1 to make a left turn when a drunk came over the hill behind us at warp 9. Fortunately I saw him just in time to start moving forward and that probably saved us. The rear of the car was crushed and the tanks were shoved up to the gas tank which sat in the trunk above the rear axel. If we'd been stopped still that probably would have been the end of us. Watching the drunk get arrested was very little consolation and I ended up walking until the insurance settlement came as I was to young to qualify for a rental car.
Spent time this weekend cleaning out the basement, boxed the rest of the buildings and cut the bridge approaches on the layout. So far so good and I haven't damaged any of the bridges taking them out (they are all in places where you would naturally split the benchwork so they had to come out). I hope to have the benchwork out by the end of the week.
Time to get back on with it as I lost a ton of time this morning sorting through the cable hookup which failed over the weekend. We'd had a power outage Sunday and after rebooting multiple times we finally got back on line. CUL, J.R.
Good Morning All
It's cold and there is ice on the lakes, albeit a thin skim in corners but ice none the less and my feets are C-C-cold! So Coffee please!
Been very busy the last few days with cleaning carpets, physio and getting ready to go back to work. Yes Charlie work! I join my new assignment on Wednesday.
Also been re-alligning my tracks for the big engines. Wish I had decided on 30" curves years ago but...
"I'll never need big curves because I won't need them as I don't run big engines"
YaHh Right who am I fool'n.
Ed: Really interesting pic of the Ferry! Nova Scotia has several cable ferries that still run but I think there equipment is slightly more modern then again it's hidden from public view so who's to say.
Lee: You did the right thing and it's never an easy thing. We put down our Terrier a few years back, I never knew how attached I was until then. As for the insurance and the idiot. I'm always wonder how we the upright citizens get screwed in the end Hand the %*&$%#@ to them on a silver platter and still get bamboozalled.
Terry: SOunds like you have a lot on your plate. If you're that unsure of status of your layout at present maybe waiting for another opportunity would be a good thing. If the layup is good to go and your more concerned with other issues then enlist some friends as it maybe good for your heart and soul to get out with other MR'rs. You never know you might meet some new friends and potential operators. Just some thoughts! Most importantly you don't want to get overwhelmed and cause more stress then it's worth.
Der John: Wonderful work on the crane! I will make it out to your place one of these days.
Well time for me to get husstling more physio and more house work!

Gee, looks like breakfast is on me. I guess I'll have the bacon and eggs.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !
Bill Tidler Jr.
Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Evening all. Today was definentaly better than yesterday.
Got out of work early and made it to my MR club's open house earlier than I though I would. I ran my athearn BB (yeah,my first BB, after 10 P2Ks [2x GP9, GP30, SD9, SD45, and U28B], and 3 Katos [3x C424/425]) SW1500s for a while, pushing my Rotary while pulling about 10 cars. They run really well and for the 30 bucks I ain't complaining. (SW15 powered and dummy, painted up right, I installed a Lenz decoder in the powered unit, and an MRC sound-only decoder in the dummy) Later I ran my GP9s with my coal drag, I got lots of compliments (even from fellow club members who haven't been around for a while) about my weathering, how smooth the stuff ran, and about the equipment in general.
However, my SW15s had a habit of loosing power over switches, and my walthers and atlas coal cars had a habit of de-railing over rough track. To solve those problems, I'm going to wire my SW15s in tandem (so it gets power as if it were one unit),and add some more weights to my walthers and atlas coal cars.
Lee: sorry to hear about Nekkia
Jeffery: I checked Florida's law, it's the same.
Jim: Well, it's not as bad as I thought. Took a good look at it doesn't look to bad. After looking at it, I drove around a bit and it still drives the same. Whenever I get to prepping my car for new paint (Candy apple red [just getting the paint re-done, mine is starting to fade] with silver racing stripes), I'll fix the rashes. Also learned that it would have been better to let him hit me.
Paul: I don't like switching time back and forth either.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evening Gang:
Lee I'm very sorry to hear about your losing Nikkia. She sounds like a wounderfull dog and friend. My friend Max Clark has an old choclate lab that they thought was about going to die. His daughters got him a choclate lab pup to fill in. Old Choclate pulled through so now there are two of them to ride around the gardens with him. Of course young Duce likes to take off and chase every little critter she sees.
To day was without MRRing of any scale. I did get a pasture mowed and took the dump trailer over to our daughters house for her husbakd to fill up with brush. Tonight feels like it is already 11pm. This changing times twice a year is for the birds.
I gaught a rat in the basement some time last week. It expired in the live trap so I took it out and dumped it in the pasture when we got the cows in. That's one down and ? number to go.
Terry if you feel up to it do the tour. If you are in the least bit unsure then don't. Your health is paramount.
Well I'm going to hit the sack.
Good Night All
Thanks for the comments about nekkia,
Terry is there any chance of you getting an electronic larynx?
Jeff, did you get your box????
Jeff, the insurance doesn’t always get their man: I had a guy (uninsured & suspended license) pass me (try) on the right while I was making a right hand turn. He gave me a false name, false insurance and a false phone number. I didn’t know that at the time, but I called the police and they told me to come to the station and file a report. The idiot’s girlfriend gave this guy a scrap piece of paper to right all this false info down on. Lo and behold the paper she tore off was the top portion of his summons to appear in court. Idiot I filled out the report and told the cops he gave me false information at the accident. The cop asked me how I was so clever to know that and I handed him the paper. Idiot went to jail. My Insurance took idiot to court and I won, still haven’t seen any of the money that was 2005. In 2008 the insurance closed the case.
Good evening....
We returned from Lexington, and it was a very constructive meeting.
Ed.... I like that Mexican "Inboard/Outboard" boat!
I hope all of you had a great weekend!

Lee: There's a money order heading your way.
Good evening, I hope everyone remembered to fall back one hour last night. The last of the leaves were picked up in the yard today and brought to the garden for next year's mulch. Now it is almost 100% MRR time.
Ahhhh, I see we have Shepard's Pie for supper, I'll have a heaping of that please with a hot mulled cider.
Looks like another cold night tonigh, clear skies, no wind, dew point at a low 18F and a temp at 6pm already down to 33F spells mid to low 20's tonight by 6am.
LEE: Sorry to hear about Nekkia, we all get very attached to our pets, they are indeed part of our family.
SUE: That is very smart of Larry to work out to stay in shape for any hard work outside like log splitting, that will help him in so many ways.
HISTORY CHANNEL: I don't know if you guys saw the thread in the General forum regarding the Train program on the upcoming series on the History channel. It is going to be aired on November 11th at 10pm EST. I saw some adds already and it really looks good!!!!! The work in the hump yard is really something, they use a remote control box they carry around to run the locomotive hundreds of feet away!
I see that the disappearing right margin is working OK tonight, yesterday I gave up trying to edit a thread.
Later,
Afternoon, Flo - is there any of Ryan's beer chicken left? No? Okay, then I'll have a bowl of chili and a root beer float, please. Thanks.
Ah, it must be that time of year again - I read about various Diners raking and blowing their leaves (and am once again glad I live in an apartment, where I don't have to fret about such things...) (Just razzin' you folks - I wouldn't mind having leaves to rake, but more MRR room)
Jeff, that's a nice 'Kodachrome' Geep there. Looks like one of those good BB motor and gear mechanisms, too (plus reasonable sized flywheels).
Ed, some nice shots of the orange grove. Those Monica oranges look like a nice size. Are they good for eating? Thanks for the pics of your river ferry (that's a wider river than I'd imagined) Also, are you doing the colors in Word and pasting in, writing the colors in HTML, or some other way? Got me curious. (I'm just doing some cutting and pasting of the colors you used and retyping)
DerJohn - you are da' man on the scratchbuilding, I do believe! It's amazing to me what you do from scratch - and in iNvisible scale, too! So, can you find an N scale Eco-burner like that first one of Fergie's ships?
Johnboy, I think Jeff doesn't want those deep ruts in his park from fully-loaded RV's, maybe. I heard him talking to someone about widening the blacktop pad by the train station, if that's any consolation.
Packer (Vincent), that wasn't a very good day for you. So by rights, today should've been better, I hope. Hang in there! As Sawyer said, the guy in the van isn't the sharpest cookie out there (and odds are, he'll end up making a mess(tm) for himself soon enough). Of course, Jeff has a couple of good point there (and in most states I know of, it's a crime to leave the scene of an accident after hitting someone's vehicle).
I'm not sure if Paul's farming or his large scale MRR'ing has been taking up more of his time lately... Hope it gets going more smoothly for you soon.
JP, wish you and Julie the best. How soon can you add an extension off the back of the house for the train room?
Lee, sorry to hear about your family losing Nekkia. Sounds like she was a great dog and part of your family.
Jerry, good part about seeing your grandkids on Halloween is that they go home with all that candy (and hyper-producing sugar...). I'll have to check my mailbox Monday for my MR mag, if you got yours yesterday.
Luke (NH), if it's raining in your area, that should mean more MRR'ing time, right?
Terry, I think Sawyer was meaning for you to have a laptop with computer voice capability - where you could type in your question/answer, select the text, and then have the computer speak what you wrote. As he said, some voices sound better than others. If you have a friend with a Mac laptop, most all of the newer ones would be able to do that (open a word processing program for something to type the words into). That might help, or else you could go to your friend's place and operate trains, since you both model the same C&O area.
I'll sit a spell with Sue and enjoy my RBF. Hope everyone has a great Sunday afternoon.
Good afternoon sports fans,
Nice day here. DST changed down here last weekend so we're already in line with the new time. But boy does it get dark early.
I believe they still have a few bugs to work out in the new forum software. When I look at my last post, some of the photos show as reduced and some still show as full size. Plus the formatting and spacing is a bit off. Whatever, you just work with what you've got.
der - very impressive work on that crane. Love the wheels.
JP - congrats, hope everything works out. Reduced layout space, huh? Sounds like there might be some Normal scale in your future.
Lee - sorry to hear about Nekkia. Our newest dog (1 year old) is a lab cross that is Fran's baby. Hopefully he has a long life ahead of him, but one never knows.
Terry - It would be great if you found a way to go ahead with the layout tour, but under the circumstances it would be understandable if you cancelled. We come up to the Houston area (Cleveland) for Thanksgiving each year and usually try to visit at least a couple of layouts. The San Jacinto club does a great job organizing such a large selection of layouts.
Some time back I talked about the small cable operated car ferry that we have to take to cross the river to where the orange grove is located. Thanks to my Photobucket account I can now show you a few shots of that operation. Coast Guard members and inspectors should close their eyes.
First, here's a shot taken as we cross the river.
Here's one of the ferry itself.
And here's a close up of the drive mechanism. Yup, that's an old tractor that's fastened to the deck. They have fabricated a pulley that fits on the axle to haul the cable.
Okay, that's about it for this afternoon. Back to watching the football games.
Ed
Flashwave CSX_road_slugTerry - is there any chance you could maybe enlist the help of a local friend who's familiar with your layout, who can serve as your 'mouthpiece'? I would think people would be inspired to see that it is possible to continue in the Hobby even after going thru tarumatic surgery like you did. Better yet, do you know a vantriloquist? I can guarentee that would drum up interest in the layout. What about a laptop? You could station yourself in a strategic place to answer questions. Or if you ave a wireless keyboard and the vocaliser on your desktop, you could walk and talk and sound like a drunk lady on a synthesizer. No harm meant. I hope you get better.

Actually CSX my buddies will be tied up only 5 blocks away because Art's layout is also on the tour but on the same weekend Both Art and Andrew will be running trains there
oddly enough he models the exact same area of the C&O as I do
