The Christmas decorations are up, and I got to do the bathroom as per usual. Same as last year, except for an additional card, (thanks again, you know who you are) Also check out the two scales and the “factory paint” and undecorated versions of this loco….
Jeff: Long live the Lizzard clan! I’ve had an electric blanket on the bed for an hour or so before bedtime for some weeks now. Thick socks too…but despite that, my feet just got colder and colder last night, and at 2:00a.m. had to get up and fix a hot water bottle! That solved the problem.
I have to get off the air, the power is dipping and we have one big ice storm here, 16,000 people are without power here now, I have the generator all gassed up and ready, and the APC is keeping my PC ready. I can hear tree limbs falling all over the place, front, sides, back, what a mess ( no not you Fergie ). I f we get ANY wind tonight as the LOW passes off the coastline, we are in for BIG trouble.
Garry: That brass loco reminds me of the D10 I inherited. The pilot truck on that never ran true, unfortunately. I think I still have the replacement wheel set I tried in it, if anyone is interested (yes, HO, and free to a good home) I wasn’t into steam then either, so I swapped it for a MRC Tech4 power pack at the LHS in Victoria, B.C. The owner knew he could sell it on to a chap who was collecting enough D 10s to be able to model every one that ever ran on Vancouver Isalnd. Is this a hugely and weirdly great hobby, or what? LOL.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Sorry about the duplicated post. Don't know how that happened.
Afternoon, Zoe - yep, I'm a bit delayed today, as it's been rather the MESS(tm) around here weather-wise today (sorry, Fergie!). Temp's been dropping, and while I was at lunch earlier, it changed over to snow and sleet combination. Some of the roads are driveable (if you're used to winter driving and use common sense...). Outside my window at w**k, there's a slight upgrade (maybe 1 or 2 percent grade on a RR), and it's sorta fun to watch the front wheel drive cars spinning their wheels and wondering why they aren't making it up the hill... Oh yes, bowl of stew and a RBF for me, please. Thanks.
Robby, got your email - I'll write you back tonight with possible list.
Sawyer, are you sure that was a basketball game? Sounded about as physical as football was earlier in the year. Your score's not bad, with that kind of difference in age/experience/size (I'm guessing they were bigger than you).
Lee, I was thinking there that you needed my Murphy's Bar, when I read your remark about painting things red...
BC, if Spring is using your mouse, I'll bet that he and Tom's cats have definitely been passing notes while you guys are sleeping.
Rob, Woodland Scenics makes a chicken coop kit (in their white metal - older - line) with some chickens included. You'd better hide that Walthers catalog from her - nothing but trouble thataways!
Gav, you want to break her in, easy kits or RTR first, then the plastic kits, then the craftsman ones and railfanning after that maybe... Maybe ask Sue for some tips on what would be attractive for the ladies about MRR'ing.
TrainsRMe, good to see you back in again! Hope you can get the train room dried out - got a dehumidifier (or two)?
Terry, good to hear your roofers have been working on the roof. Maybe you could recommend them for jobs in the Carolinas. Hope they got things wound up today (and cleaned up).
Inch, I think you might have it about right on the size of what Rob's wife will need for her layout. Yeah, in Springfield, they might not like you - since you say what you think and call a liar a liar (unlike some in politics). Stay warm up there - looked like you and Jerry were likely getting the worst of this winter storm front moving through here today and tonight.
I'll get out of here for now. Too many pages to catch up before dinnertime. I'll be back in a little bit..
Blessings,

Good Evening everyone; Is there some 6 bean soup available?--after this afternoon's temperature dump( 9C to -5C in 1 1/2 hours) walking home from work was a bit much. You guys out west must be having late January weather early--can spring be far behind?
John; I love the carvings! must take some patience.
Robb; I emailed your site to some people I know who had been looking. Do you do buildings as well--I have to check site out.
Off to assemble some more bits for the mill...--oh and 'Spring' tried to make off with the mouse...

Thanks for getting the word out about me. I have done a few of my own buildings awhile back. Who knows buildings might be easier.

It FELT like a football game when I went to bed that night. And yeah, they were bigger, I was only taller than 2 or 3, all the others had me by a few inches.

Evening all
I sent JR an Email and he said the cars he was working on are waiting for transport, the house is stripped down to the studs and waiting for the heat to come in. So all in all he is doing pretty good right now and sends his regards.
I tried to call Dick last night and tonight but the calls aren't going through so things must be in a bad way right now.
Will catch up on posts tomorrow.
Best to all on sick call and those recovering
Talk to you later

John, those paintings are my 2008 and 2007 Christmas cars I sent out, very cool.
Jim, what is a Murphy bar? Speaking of sliding; when I went to the train show yesterday I had to stop for a traffic light on an uphill. It had been raining all day and when the light turned green I was spinning tires in my ¾ ton all the way through the intersection so I picked up 360 pounds of sand bags for the back end.
Rob, I called my dealer; 4-6-6-4, used with original box $125 with tender. HO-Scale.
Jeff, I’m going to the post office in the morning.
Evening Gang: I'm real proud of myself tonight. I took the puter and moved it onto my new work desk and it works.
Colby I wished you a Happy Birthday last night but when the post went in it got lost. So again Happy Birthday and have you been kissed yet? If not Why?
Lee a belated Happy Birthday to you. What's going on with the shipping where you are? I see by the Boatnerd news sight that a good many boats are laying up early.
I called Walthers today and ordered a heavy 2-10-2 in DC from them. I wanted the one with DCC and sound but they were all gone. They had the locos on sale for about 60% off. You can't beat that even at wholesale.
Well It's an early wake up at 0400 for us. Mary Ann has her appointment with dialysis in the morning.

please & thanks.
I picked up a couple WS built-ups on thebay tonight for wife's HO. First is the Corner Emporium. Too bad the Gas Station turned out to be N scale. Seriously, it was an honest mistake on my part. Have been planning on selling a few of my structures off, so I'll make up the difference that way. Sure would have bought more track before another structure. Oh well.
Who currently makes a HO scale Hospital? All I can find are military models. Thanks for any help. Wife being a nurse and all, she insists on having a Hospital on her layout. I would have thought there would be a number to choose from.
Need to go do evening critter rounds now. Rob
By the way it is chocolat brownie on bottom and cheese cake in the middle with cherry topping on top
Now there is some good eating. I love me some CHEESE CAKE!!!!!!!!
You might have to put the recipe on here. Now I am hungry.
Mornin, well it was anyway when I started this post, but an irish coffee still sounds good
It was a bit icy outside here this morning and the bus was a ½ hour late. Temp here was 52 at 3:30 and some light rain. At 4:30, 32, rain n sleet. Now it's 13, at least the sleets stopped and wind has laid some.
Seen the forecast for tomorrow awhile ago, snow, cold n windy ending by Wed morning. With sleet, and coming back in Wed night, ending ???. So much for global warming, below normal temp for another week at least
What have I been doing, lets see, not much of anything, kids, chores and trying to stay warm n dry mostly.
Have got some in layout time now that it's cold and the trains are running most every day. Been trying to build a footbridge for the gristmill spillway.
Mothers busy with a few birthday cakes, with those done now, it's time for her Christmas candy.
Tmarsh,,
Thought so the way you were talking. I spent some time over the years up that way. I've been to Castles several times when our daughter lived in Chatom, then Springfield [across from Hammer's hobby shop]. She lives in Girard now, so we don't get up that way often. Went up for the GAT show a few times while it was going. It was ok; a lot of stuff, but the prices were kinda high the last couple years, not worth the drive for us. Mother does like the shopping up there.
PC, good looking scooter. Those bag really set it off.
ROB,
I've never seen a chicken house with AC, well at least that I've seen. Most use fans for cooling and heating. Just guessing now, but those white panels on the side of the building in your pic are most likely curtains. They open n close with motors on thermostats for air circulation.
Robby,
Sorry to hear bout the layoff. It's bad for trucking here too. Grain is usually busy here this time of year for truckers and the RR. But, this year there's nobody is moving grain, unless they have to meet a bill or contract. The oil fields here are even laying off workers.
FLO, could I get another irish coffee to go with a piece of RT's pie. I'm going to finish this up now before I get interrupted again. Seems every time I set down here it's something else needs doing.
Happy Birthday for all those I've missed along the way. Thought for all those in need and hope ya'll has a gooden n stay warm.
Yes dear I'm coming, some times I hate candy making.

Rob; I saw Faller or Kibri had buildings that came close to that--barring any news from other sources I'm thinking those modular building kits( although i think you'd need 3, eerrgh). Oh and Audrey is asking what are you raising?
Good evening, All. I think a hot cider sounds good after such a cold sunny day.
der, Nice carvings. And yes, I love watermelon.
Rob, Google Musket Miniatures Civil War Figures. That is where I found my cowboys and horses. They had all kinds of war figures.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
We are a number of years out of the breeding scene. The wife did raise perhaps 30 or so guineas this year, ready for release on the farm come spring. It was time to bolster those numbers. We still have a few other critters though. Let's see: 9 Paint horses, 7 miniature horses, 2 miniature donkeys, 2 pot-bellied pigs, 6 cats, 5 dogs, and assorted geese, chickens, peafowl, turkeys, & a couple ducks. We've cut back considerably over the years. What remains will most likely die here on the ol' farm of old age...at least we hope so.
Good night all. Rob
I just spent an intriguing evening going over the mill pix and trying to piece the footprint together on the project mill. In going after some of my topo maps the site the mill is on drops from the n.e. corner of the property to the s.w. corner approx 60-75'. Couple that with a cut on the east side of the site changing over to the west side being a filled trestle complete with underpass I decided tonight that the building will be done after I tease all the landscape together. Onto the next thing; finding foam to play with---heeheehee
I am going to get some sleep--g'nite
Hello everybody....
I'll have a cappucino flavored with cinnamon, plese.
It appears that everybody is experiencing a heavy dose of "global warming" with John Boy winning the prize for being the coldest. We are having sleet and light snow. Is this sort of weather forecasted to continue through the rest of the month?
I made a little more progress on my layout this evening. The is an area that needs scenery before I go much farther because I will have some bridges over a stream. As long as I am making a stream, I will work on the background scenery.
Rob. I believe you are correct that there are no hospitals available for the layout. Perhaps, a fun idea for the diner (or even the main forum) is to brainstorm a kitbashed hospital from other buildings currently available. I just glanced thru the Walthers Catalog and I see an HO Cornerstone model of "The Bralick Building". It says "retired model", so who knows if it is in stock. It is supposed to be a condo building, but you could add an emergency entrance and other stuff. Most buildings look too "industrial", but the windows on this one more closely resemble a hospital. Perhaps other diners have better ideas.
Der John ... What is a D10?
Inch ... I have been in Castle Hobbies. If my memory is correct, they had a good selction of used HO.
Ryan .. SIx bean soup would be good. Does the chef make house calls to prepare it?
Paul.. If you are talking of the Heritage 2-10-2, I have seen the good prices on them. ....and I bought one last year at the best price then which was much higher. It is a very nice locomotive. I should get another I suppose.
Duke.... I am glad you checked on Dick, and I hope he and his family are OK. That was quite a storm up there according to the news. Have you seen a long term weather forecast for S E MI?
Cheers.

Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Good morning. it's 36 and cloudy with light rain. Today's high should be in the mid 40's with light rain continuing. Yesterday I got my Heinz 57 GP50 put back together and running under DCC control. I also rebuilt one of my old Athearn GP38's . It will be paired up with my SF Kodachrome GP38 in the near future. Went to see the foot doc yesterday. The remnants of the infection that was trying to start before Thanksgiving is gone. That's news I was happy to get. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/16/2008 Wind Chill: 31°F Humidity: 98% Dew Point: 35°F So Far Today High: 37°F Low: 36°F Rain: 0.11" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 20mph NNE Now through 06:15 AM CST December 16, 2008 Scattered showers will continue over the coastal waters along a cold front located from east of Marsh Island southwest to 80 nm south of Grand Chenier. Good morning all,
Cold today the high will be between 12F and 20F with rain changing to sleet and snow later. No accumulation of snow but they are forecasting .25” of ice on everything by tonight.
60% off locomotives, very nice! I hear that my older locomotives (90% of my fleet) can’t run on DCC with open frame motors, so now I have to decide on selling them off and replacing them or do some major rebuilds.
Paul, the shipping is taking a hit from the automotive industry; steel mills are going through “rolling blackouts” shutting down steel production until the market improves. This all but halts taconite shipments to the lower Great Lakes and Coal shipments to the Upper Great Lakes. Ice control salt seems unaffected so far.
Rob, for a hospital I would look at kit bashing DPM models, fair price and they are easy to bash. They have some pretty tall buildings if you go to their web site.
RT, that cheesecake looks really good.
Blownout, have you looked at Live View Maps web site? You can get aerial pictures at a birds eye view of most places.
Jeff, I left my bag at the house so I’ll ship that stuff out tomorrow, sorry.
HOn3, anybody modeling in this scale? I picked up 16 pairs of Kadee couplers that I can’t use.
And a good morning to everyone! I'll have a cup of STRONG coffee and toast/jam please. We currently sit at -10C and expect a high of -2C with 'overcast'. We are expecting about 2" of snow tonight--
Lee, tnx for the tip! I forgot completely about that site. eergh.
N scale 'i' beams have to kept away from 'Spring'. He had to have a couple of them to chew on as he was fighting them--pushing away with his back feet etc...oh, and running around with them in his mouth ....
Good morning. Brrrrrrrrrrr. A Balmy 10 degrees here. It seems warmer today because the wind is not blowing so hard.
Rob, We must have posted at the same time last night. Try Musket Miniatures under Civil War figures to see what you find. I ordered my cowboys and horses from them. They were metal and unpainted.

The radar's showing JIM n GARRY's getting ice now. Tmarsh, snow and if PC it's getting it now, he will.
Mother n Beth are suppose to go down to W Union tonight for catfish at Earls for the AL Christmas party. I'm stuck at home with leftovers.
Thought's for those in need and stay warm.
inch53 The radar's showing JIM n GARRY's getting ice now. Tmarsh, snow and if PC it's getting it now, he will.
It's supposed to start snowing any time now, then change over to sleet this afternoon. 1"-2" accumulation. Should make the commute home a real party!
OK everyone! Break out your Hans Brinker storybooks, cause we're going skating!
Well its a cold day so I will take a hot tea.
Right now my area is under a winter storm warning. They are calling for 1-3 inchs of snow today, and a wintry mix tonight. We have about a inch or so on the ground now. Its a good day to stay in the basement.
I already cleaned the dishs, put the clean dishs up, making 2 pitchers of tea, I vaccumed the house, cleaned the hamster cage, and about to do towels. All of that since 8 this morning. I am done, with the honey do list, but I kinda made my own list.
I started on the backdrop of my layout the other day. I started to paint some sections of it, but its to dark. I still have to sand some drywall compound, and paint that to. So I have enough to keep me busy.
I will keep hoping in and out of here today. I hope someone offers to pay for lunch today in "The Trackside Diner". I am already getting hungry.
From a line in the movie "Popeye". Wimpy, "I'm buying, and hes paying."
Have a good day guys and gals.
