I must've missed something. Is Thanksgiving on the 25th or on the final Thursday of Nov. or...?

Being up here one sorta loses something in the mix...Confused

Jim; benchracers is/was a term used to 'label' people quite heavily into hot rods and such.

A friend of mine rebuilds/restores musclecars from the 60's-70's and various drag cars from the same era...

There seems to be quite a few rubberburners down our way...MischiefWhistling

Evening, Chloe - just a cup of hot cocoa, please.

Ray, I'm debating about going by our LHS (in-town) on Friday OR Saturday (even though I have a 20 percent off coupon from them for those days), and it's not even anywhere near any mall (neither the big enclosed one nor any of the big strip malls in the area)! I'm with you about laying low on that Friday or Saturday of the year.

howmus
I then usually roll over and take about a 5 hour nap!  Ah, retirement is great!

Oh sure, rub it in, Ray! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Sawyer, sounds like some good planning on your part. Thumbs Up When can we expect a picture of the plan? (Hint, hint...)Wink

Jeff, were you ever a farmer? I know they get up around 4 (or 5) a.m. sometimes, but I thought that or night shift people who were still working, were the only people up about then.

Aw, Gav - your photo of PC's big win didn't show up. Shoot!  As for 4 a.m. being 'the quiet time,' have you ever seen the Friday after Thanksgiving in the States? Not very quiet at all...

As for the street racers, I usually sleep pretty soundly, so I must be missing them if they're around my neighborhood.Zzz

Uh, Blownout Cylinder - explain benchracers for me, haven't heard of them around here yet, either. Confused (I have heard about street racers (and not too far away, and have seen some tire/rubber marks a little bit away from my place).

I'll get back to my cocoa and sit for a bit. Might go for some of Robby's birthday cake, since there's a little left. Ah, Chloe, I see I have the dessert, late night and early breakfast tab, apparently.Oops Well, let me know in the morning what the total runs, please.

Blessings and a good night's rest,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening folks:  Just dropping in for a night cap. The Rhubarb-pineapple pie is a mix I’ve not met before, if there’s any left, I’ll have a slice, along with a medium black tea, thanks.  Dentist today (filling a small gap between an existing filling and the tooth below it) was scheduled for 20 minutes, took 15 and 5 of that was getting seated and looked at by the assistant, and waiting for the dentist to appear. To quote a blast from the past, Danny Kaye in “The Court Jester”, Get in, get on with it, get it over with, and get out!  Thanks for the crane comments, it’s a fun project, especially working out what has to be there, and what is “too much detail” and can be left off! (eg. The safety railings won’t be put everywhere the proto-type has them, it would look way too fussy, even for me.Wink ) I’ve been thinking about how to make those safety cages that vertical ladders run in.  I figure if I cut the pattern from thin styrene sheet (I’ve some thinner than greeting card) I can roll it up on a piece of brass tube, and glue the seam. So long as I can make a ladder that will fit in that, it could work. A lot depends on the ” if I cut the pattern from thin styrene sheet” part actually being possible. A new X-Acto blade is certain to be a must.

Blownout:  You asked how long the crane took to get to this stage.  I thought that it could have been started as long ago as August, but looking at the photos, the tracks for it were finished on Sept 27th or so, and an email I sent to Dick (grayfox) on the 29th says
If all goes well, I could start “cutting metal” as early as tomorrow. I’ve just about everything on hand, and have figured out end runs around certain materials shortages.  Wish me luck!
So, just about 2 months seems to be the answer, but it’s hardly been non-stop production!
Good evening... (didn't Alfred Hitchcock use this line?)
…if that’s Goot Eefnink…I think you are right!...Or am I remembering a different show?

CapeJim:
Gav, since the bags were in the luggage hold, it's good that the airlines didn't have their trained gorilla crew unloading your bags
…there was a TV news item today about a restaurant in
Japan that has trained chimps serving at the tables. I don’t think we need that here in the Diner!

And will you be able to fit in a LHS trip on the way back from your dentist visit?
…did that on the way in.  I’m getting concerned about the owner…he was vague, and couldn’t find the item he had brought in for me. Said he didn’t know we were coming in…
Kris, who had taken the call from him saying he’d got the item, told him we would be in today.
But I follow the five-second rule on food, too.
…for me it depends on whether the food is hard and dry, so it can be blown/brushed off! Whistling

Paul, I think Lee must be below, checking the chart!  Last I saw of Fergie he was taking home a very nice model of a yard light…and since he told us of a certain embargo, I won’t mention the construction material.Wink

All this talk of 4:a.m. is making me sleepy.  Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel

Evening Gang: Not much doing today. I went out to Clark Gardens today to pick up some posters for the Christmas festival. When I go there they were working on the light tree at the front entrance. I spent about 3hrs helping them on it. It's about 20ft using the flag pole for the sujpport. A nice small project since the one we did at Six Flags was 250ft high.

I got the latest monthly sale catalogue from Walthers today. They are bring out taper side ore cars like the old Roundhouse cars that I've been searching for. The cars will be in 12 packs for $169 a set. I have to keep on the good side of the folks out at Clark Gardens since they will order stuff for me at cost. I guess I'll still look for the old Roundhouse cars if I can get a good price.

Rob a very happy birthday to you. Happy B-Day That does sound like a pretty price for that heat pump. There has to be a less expensive way.

Der that container crain is beautifull. I see the inspection boat at the dock wall. It seems to be empty. Did Lee and Fergie fall in?

Well I am going to hit the sack.

Good Night All

Well, I've gotten it so that I need to buy zero switches for my layout now, added one industry, and got the small town pretty much planned out.

Had my visit with the doctor today and even though my total cholesterol is within the normal range because I am Diabetic (Diet controlled) he wants it lower.  So I am now officially old and have been put on a statin drug (Not sure which one as I can't read his writing...) to help keep it in line and lower the LDL level which are higher than he wanted.

Jeffrey I like your new industry.  What will manufacturers think of next.  Cool idea!

OK, Back to cleaning!

Thanks for all of the cake guys!!!  Well lets see, mostly just sat around the house, and went to the hobby store.  Just got some scenic stuff.  Since the sale there was going to be Fri, and Sat.  The lady let me have the 15% off today.  Saved me about $3.00.  Hey its money saved.

ON THE OTHER HAND!!!

The heat guy came today.  He was talking about putting up a heat pump in the attic.  Total...............$6,200.  Banged Head

The wife will call and see if they dont have a cheaper system.  Also see about ther finance.  I hope its not to much for that much.  I'm not paying another car payment for heat.  We already have 2 of them (cars).

Well its cold, and night time.  I guess a few more hours and its bed time.

Everybody have a good night

Good evening... (didn't Alfred Hitchcock use this line?)... Gents and ladies...

I'll go for a mulled cider and some Punpkin pie please....DinnerWhistling

Jim; we put this on and left it to dry overnight then put it on the tree. Said tree is a 7 1/2 foot tree we got from Sears a few years ago. It has a diameter of 50" so it doesn't jiggle much when Spring scoots up it...Whistling

Phil... just watch the benchracers, They'll be looking to put in HUGE engines next...MischiefSmile,Wink, & Grin

Sometimes our Goodwill store amazes me. I just picked up a McIntosh tube amp that still works. Can't find the model number on the back though. And all for 7.29...

Good morning, Zoe, just a root beer float, please. Thanks! Sorry I missed the pie fight last night, but from the looks of the Diner, PC must've found all the bits and pieces, eh?Wink

Colby, enjoy your trip on the KC135 - I recall when they first started using them. Will you get to take a peek over the boom operator's shoulder? Well, even if you don't, have fun.Thumbs Up

Three coats of paint, eh Sawyer? Wow!! I might even have guessed more than that many would be needed.

PC, can you smell the pumpkin PIE yet? (That'll perk up PC's ears...Whistling)Wink

Jeff, I think I've done that kind of troubleshooting at times, until I remember the KISS principle. Then like you said, I find it was something much less complex causing the difficulty.Oops

Looks like we've started one of our [ditto] trees again, for Ryan's pics from the Smokey Mountain RR.

Ray - 19 and 20 pound cats? That might be as big as Tom's Maine Coon cats! ShockSmile,Wink, & Grin

Blowout Cylinder, sounds like some CA would be good for the tree ornaments - unless it was still wet and Spring decided to hop up the tree...Shock  But at least that should keep the ornaments on the tree. I hope it's a tree you keep for next year, or you'd have a time of it getting the ornaments off the tree after New Year's.Confused

JR, actually I don't think I've directly mentioned it to my daughter, for some of the reasons you mentioned. I'm glad I have them in the same town now, vs. 2 to 3 hours drive away when she was in college.

Morgan, hang in there, since you'll have some time over Thanksgiving and the long weekend. Maybe you can get some things going on the MRR then. Yeah!!

Gav, since the bags were in the luggage hold, it's good that the airlines didn't have their trained gorilla crew unloading your bags (since I saw that your engines looked to be intact and unscathed...).Smile

sleeper33
now theres a shocker!!!!!!!!Laugh

Hear, hear, Gav - that is totally amazing, isn't it? Smile,Wink, & Grin And who says that PC will only be having ONE kind of pie? He's an equal opportunity pie eater, I hear...Whistling

And DerJohn, thanks for reminding us that it's Robby's Happy B-Day today!

Robby, I wasn't sure how many candles to put on it, and Zoe said there's a fire code if we put too many on our cakes in here.Wink Hope you had a great day! (I intended to bring it in earlier, but (pardon the pun, Garry) it has been a madhouse today at work... (lunch? what lunch?)

DerJohn, thanks for the tips on the roast. I think I've probably broken a few of those in the past, though. But I follow the five-second rule on food, too. Wink That is one impressive crane, there! Thumbs UpBow And will you be able to fit in a LHS trip on the way back from your dentist visit?

It was cold enough (33 F, with wind chill of 26 F) this morning, but I was glad to see that there wasn't frost on the car windshield today. Smile A little bit warmer this afternoon, at least.

RT, I'm guessing that the bosses aren't in to w**k until 7, so they want you to talk to them (rather than someone coming off of night shift, who might be very tired and "forget" to notify them...). Are you taking a 'well' day (and maybe some MRR'ing), or are you down with some cold/flu/other bug?

A couple of our local stores are going to open Friday morning at 4-oh-my-goodness!-a.m. for their sales. Sorry, folks, my clock doesn't have that time on it (that I know of).I plan on sleeping in that day, if at all possible. Zzz

Hectic City here today, and I'm ready to head for home.Dead I'd rather not see anyone for a couple of days, but will have to come back in tomorrow to w**k, alas.At least Friday is mine for MRR'ing! Yeah!!

Blessings on your evening,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Looks real good.  Old buddy of mine in NC had one.  It was red.  He had it built up to run 6 secs in the 1/8 mile.  He would rattle the whole house each time he came by, and yeah it was street legal.

I know its the wifes, but hey its a great looking car!!  Oh, and at least gas has gone down to fuel that beast up.

Well, as promised, here's some pics of the wife's new toy.

It's got some minor rust bubbles under the paint, but overall it's pretty solid.

The other side looks just as good, except for this (someone hit it yesterday in the parking lot, but they're going to fix it)...........

Not bad for 9 bills, huh?

Making my Pumpkin Cheesecake tonight in getting ready for the big Turkey Day!

I just about finished up reading the Great Model Railroads 2009 issue and I got a few good "take aways" from this one. I especially liked the idea of making a schematic (pp. 112 - 113) and attaching it to the fascia that Bill and Mary Miller do on their Colorado & Southern Ohio Creek Extension  On3 and On2 1/2 layout.

I just started making one of my own using similar techniques that they explained in the article with using Excel spreadsheets. Here is my first attempt for the Asheville Yard area on my PD layout.

I said simtown because in that game, every builing looked like it's product. (burger stand looked like a burger)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
