I will have a RBF for the evening.

Rob,  Nice Dining and sleeping porch.  It should help with some solar heating in the winter.

OK, so I took the PSAT WAY back in the fall, and we got our scores today. This was for the Junior Scholar thing here in S.C. To be one, you had to get a 50 on one part (highest you can get is like an 80). So my scores were:

Critical reading: 70 (higher than 99% of sophmores)

Math: 57 (higher than 85% of sophmores)

Writing: 55 (higher than 89% of sophmores)

So I got junior scholar in all three areas. Now, convert that to an SAT score, and you get 1820 out of 2400 posible points, lol.

All I've had to use since June of 2005 is a clean dry cloth. I did the GLEAM method once and haven't had to do a real track cleaning since. Just a quick wipe with the cloth if the trains haven't been run for a month or so.

Best liquid track cleaner you're gonna get is lacquer thinner like the Clean Machine uses.

Be very, very careful using it!  It will destroy any and all plastic parts on contact.  Don't ask me how I know that............Sad  That is not even mentioning the health hazards that come with the stuff............  I use 90% alcohol in my clean machine as well as the "Gleam" method.  A quick once over with the Clean Machine and it is ready to run.  I also run this car ahead of the loco when I clean:

It picks up stuff like this:

RAIL-ZIP!

Clean the tracks, apply rail-zip let it dry over night.

I haven't cleaned tracks for 6 months, works great on brass too.

Rob,

Some of them are just tougher than nails.  Sounds like Sandy is one of them.  I had a good gelding that could get through a knot hole and not hurt himself.  Never a sick or injured day until I came home from work to find that he had had colic all day.  He was gone with 30 minutes of me getting home. Sad day.

On a lighter note.  My wreath party went well, so I get some layout time today.

***Jerry, looks like a good cleaning car. Do you put any kind of cleaner on the pad or run it dry?

Jerry,

An old freight car is a great place to hide the track cleaner.  We have one that runs on the main line all the time.

I just heard from Larry.  He got snowed in at a truck stop in Prince George, BC.  Sounds like the roads up there are miserable.

Its daylight so I should head outside.

Rob,

How is the critter health doing?  Sometimes I am happy to only have 4 steers.  I am much lazier than I used to be.  Horses were definately more work.  I guess the affection was worth it.

 Mornin' everyone!

Nice sunny day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 25°F with a high around 29°F.  A nice day this time of year around here is one that you don't have to shovel "partly cloudy"................

Mornin' Bill

Jeffrey always good to have the eye test behind you although I know you have another soon to look forward to.  I have a six months before my next one.  Luckily I live all of 2 blocks away from my Optometrist so getting back home isn't too bad.

Blownout and Galaxy, I taught a lot of kids like you............... (Some eventually joined chorus!)  Galaxy I remember a couple of those names but can't put a face to them.  Well that was half a lifetime ago.

Mornin' Sue!  I'll have a couple of those waffles with Maple Syrup and my usual dark roast in a FGLK Mug. Thanks!  BTW, it's quite what in here???? ConfusedWhistling

I best finish my coffee and get to work.  See you all later!

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee and waffles for anyone who shows up.  It is quite in here today.

My goal is to make some deciduous bush type trees this morning to put around the base of the trestle.

Cool!  What year did you graduate if I can be nosey?  I probably know all of your music teachers along the way as we were all in the Tioga County Music Educators Association.  I had to go into Owego several times a year for this and that, so I know the area well.

'81. Elem. and Jr High music teachers would have been Mr. Arthur Pare, Mr. George Houck, and Mr Joe Bloomer. I am NOT, however, rather musically inclined. My voice would scare away squirrels, and I can't keep more than one beat or rhythm at a time - always wanted to be able to play piano, for instance, but sooner or later both hands will be doing exactly the same thing. I got my music credits for graduation and thats about it.

Today is a whole 24*, but warmer now than tomorrow is supposed to be. Supposed to be teens then. It IS December. I hates winter, I tells ya, I hates it.

Jeffrey soulds a bit chilly where you are. Hope you get your new glasses worked out. I need new glasses about every 6 months so I get tehm as cheap as I can at Sam's club. I keep reusing old frames until they wear out, but last frames at Sam's were only $47.00. Doesn't help I know if you lost or damaged them. Too bad,  maybe, the guys at the fire hall couldn't take up a mini collection for you?

Hope everyone has a swell day!

Jeff, I hope you get some usable reading glasses to hold you over until you fill that RX.  I think I startled the LHS last Monday I walked in right after the eye doctor appointment and they said my eyes were so dilated they looked like black sockets.

Way ahead of you. I got a pair of Wal-Mart bifocal reading glasses a couple of days ago, not that they did me any good yesterday. I couldn't focus on anything while my eyes were dilated. They looked like a couple of deep black holes.

Good Morning all,

COLD outside, high today of 27F and a low of 19F.  Snow off and on, but the weather guessers say Sunday we will get hit with some real Lake Effect snow.

No MRing recently; Dorothy accidentally needed me in the side the other night while she was sleeping.  Doc said she did a good job, right between the #4 and #6 abnormal muscles (they move every time you breathe so no rest for them to heal quickly).

Good morning.

It's 34 and clear. High today should be around 50 and it will be partly cloudy.

The eye exam yesterday went well. Now that I have my prescription I'll be shopping around for the cheapest prices on new glasses made to my specifications. Didn't get anything done on the layout yesterday, mainly because I couldn't see much. When I went to bed last night my eyes were still dilated. They look pretty much normal now though. So far this coming Wednesday (10th) is looking like mostly cloudy with rain.

Evenin' folks!

Actually managed to get some work done on the layout today.  I repaired a turnout throw that was binding and got that working properly and then added labels to the toggles on the fascia board around the layout identifying what each one does.

Started to get my projects together for the Modeler's Corner at the RIT Show this weekend.  I plan on assembling a couple of Accurail kits and decaling them for the SLOW as well as finishing some work on an old Overton car that will become the freight house at the team track.

Tell Larry to drive Safe !!!

Now all I need is a source of sage brush.  Probably on the east side of the state.

Larry is always getting safety bonuses from his company.  I am more concerned that he will be too cold.  His company's idea of saving fuel, is to set the truck so it will only  idle for 5 minutes.  The only way to keep it running is to tap the throttle before it shuts off.
After this trip, I suspect that heads might roll.
