Good morning.It's 50 and clear. A little nippy for this part of the country but nothing I can't handle. The high today will be around 80 with plenty of sunshine.I've got most of the rafters installed in the coaling station. Sometime today or tomorrow I'll be cutting the pieces of rusted roofing metal to scale 10 foot size and gluing them in position one piece at a time. In some places a piece will be loose or peeled back and some pieces will be missing altogether. This should lend one heck of an effect overall for the structure as it stands a lonely vigil beside an abandoned stretch of track. This afternoon I have to go to DeRidder to see a urologist about my prostate condition. Hey Sue, we try to find ways to keep our Diners coming back, and besides, the NP could easily have boxcars down the way of my RR's Four Corners area in the 1950's (or so I'll claim, and I'm stickin' to it! ) I like the gold stripes on my NP SW1200, so I decided I'll have only the NP logo painted over, as if the paint shop hasn't got to doing the repaint in CAW's colors. Good to hear (waiting on the glue to dry and all) that Larry and you are getting closer to the logging camp. Oh, I did get that NP boxcar together last night (and KD's put on it), so it's sitting on the layout now.
Mitch, looks like several people will be coming by to visit your Mom, which hopefully will pick up her spirits a bit. Best wishes on your car sale, too. As for the sleep, hey, you're on vacation, and you can just say you're practicing early for being an ORF...
Paul, sounds like an enjoyable visit to that resort, and for your self-restraint at breakfast. Guess hanging around us chowhound Diners hasn't completely rubbed off on you. That resort sounds like a good one for MRR'ers, with all those layouts.
Lee, good job on that lumber yard - was that the Walthers 'Walton Bros.' one, or did you kitbash two of the Atlas and add the top part over the space between them? Careful, you'll have me starting through some of my older/beatup/worn rolling stock and trying to improve them. This could be catching!
Also yesterday, I had a few empty WS "silos" (containers) that I put my Arizona R&M scenery materials into (well, except for the Sedona Red powder - left that in its original bag). I may need to order some more AZ Rocks & Minerals stuff, though - one bag only gets about 1/3rd of the way filled. Might put MRR money on my birthday list for daughter and brother, since it's coming up.
Sunny here today, though pretty cool this morning. About 40 F at the airport, which tends to be a couple or three degrees cooler than in the city. Supposed to reach the upper 60's/low 70's (F) this afternoon, but dropping into the upper 30's tonight. But no frost just yet !

Morning all, first time for me to appear in the new coffee shop, and I have to do it on a very sad note for me.
I had to have my furry train-cat buddy Lowell put to sleep--the kidney failure just went through his body too fast, and he was in agony. Funny how you get attached to a pet--and all pets are special. Lowell was certainly that. But I had 13 years of a lot of companionship from him and I know he's in a better place now. Spooky already misses her buddy, and so do I.

We are sorry to hear about Lowell. We thought you had that managed pretty well.
But I guess age and the ailment combined to speed up his demise.
We have lost many family pets over the years and it is always difficult and some are very difficult to adjust to.

We had our first frost of the season here in the Free State this morning. Sure was purty, but a real bear to scrape off my windshield! I'm hoping the grass has finished growing so I can enjoy more time with mrr. I got ~half of my engine terminal track ballasted yesterday. I was actually pleased with how it turned out - maybe I'm starting to get the hang of this ballasting thing after all..?

Tom, sorry to hear about Lowell's passing, but at least his misery is over. Sure hope the angels have cabeese up there. I know you (and those of us who've listened to the stories about him and Spooky in the Diner) will be missing him. Maybe you can figure a way to designate one of your cabeese something like the Lowell Memorial Caboose? A thought, anyway. for you and Spooky.

***Tom, I'm very sorry to hear of Lowell's passing. I understand fully how it feels to lose a four legged family member and it's never easy. All I have to offer is that Lowell had a wonderful, loving home and that he is now at peace. My sincere condolences.
Been busy here lately and too tired most of the time to visit the Diner. Wife is now on her way to Florida, taking her Dad to see the ocean one last time. A request he has had ever since his stroke. He seems pretty weak these days, so she thought it might be now or never. I'm staying here to keep an eye on the build and ofcourse take care of the critters.
RFDTV "Trains & Locomotives" is on at 6:00pm est.

That sucks Tom. I remember when we had to put our big yellow/white lab Comet down. He was an OLD dog, I forget how old. Poor boy could barely stand up. Well, they have to go. It really sucked for my sister back in Feburary when her little Jack Russel/Chiwawa died, cause it was unexpected (the dog had an allergic reaction to a rabies shot). We have a little area out back that I call our pet cemetary, I'll get a pic. There lies 2 hamsters, a guinea pig, a lab/golden retriever (Zach), Comet, and Molly (sister's old dog). There's also a corgie buried along the back fence, but further to the back (she died when the vet gave her to much sleep medicine). There's also an angel fish buried at the other end (my sister wouldn't let it get flushed). I'll get a pic of our little cemetary for ya'll. I'll go ahead and tell ya'll now, we currently have 4 dogs. An old corgie (Diana), a wired haired terrier mixed w/ lord knows what else (mine), a definite hound/bird dog that might also have lab/border collie/dalmation blood (Bullseye, my other younger sister & brother's dog(I have 2 younger sisters and a little brother and I'm the oldest), and a min pin/chiwawa that my sister got after Molly died. And there is also a tropic aquarium w/ about 10 fish.
On another note, I finally got my figures, so there'll hopefully be some pics of them soon. Also, football ends wednesday.

Well today was the first day of my new job. My feet are killing me. Wore steel toes, and man my dogs are barking. Its 10 hour shifts, but only 4 days a week, and weekends off. Not to bad. Its a Michilen (I know, spelled wrong) Tire Retreading Company. Good pay once you get off of the 90 day probabtion period. The guy told me between $17 to $20 a hour. Thats with a bonus they give each week, with how many tires you can get out.
Its a job, I know theres not many out there. I need to hold on it as long as possible.

I have mentioned different times to the CFO that it would be nice to have a steam loco in the 7.5" gauge as well as take up flying again. She said it wouldn't be a problem,but there are some other things that I would have to give up (motorcycle,HO trains,R/C planes as well as some other things) and I don’t think I am ready to do that. In other words,guess who gets the last word and over many,many,many,many moons of marriage I think I might have learned.
Guys, thanks so much for your condolences on Lowell. I'm a Franciscan Catholic, so to us all life is Sacred, and I know he's with St. Francis and listening to a lot of classical music (he was a Mahler Freak!) and finding all kinds of little cabooses to hide. And NO vets, LOL!
Morgan: You Drama 'techies' are the unsung heroes of any production. Without you, it would just be people on stage talking to each other, LOL! Have a great time on the production.

In answer, yes, there is going to be a Lowell Memorial Caboose. It's an old wood Silver Streak drover's caboose kit that I built way back in the 'sixties that I still use, and he was very fond of dragging off. It's going to be re-furbished and named in his honor. I'll use it on my VERY frequent stock trains.

The doctors appointment went well today. My prostate gland has shrunk some, something I was happy to hear. After a few simple tests I was released from the clinic and on my way back to Leesville. I had been in and out within an hour! Now I had to go to the hospital in Leesville to have a simple PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test done. It's so simple I should be in and out in no time. I signed in at the admitting desk then waited while they contacted my PCP (Primary Care Provider) for a MedicAid referral (government regulations, gotta love them. NOT!). An hour passes, then two. No it's starting to get late and I'm getting more and more ticked off with each passing minute. Finally I go to the window and inquire as to what the delay is. They say they can't get a referral from my PCP and that I'll have to come back tomorrow. Tomorrow nothing!! I've got grass to cut tomorrow and it won't wait. Besides which, I'm on a very small fixed income and I can't afford the gas to be running back and forth all the time at the hospitals beck and call. They tell me again that they just called and can't get a referral. I saw nobody lift a phone. I called my doctor and had the referral faxed to them inside of two minutes! My doc said no one had called within the last three hours for a referral for me. I have little patience for bureaucratic red tape and I have zero tolerance for a liar! I told them flat out that they need to fire whoever is in charge of getting referrals and get someone in there that will do the job. The PSA test was done in less than 5 minutes. I was ***!

Beaurocracy SUCKS! Especially when it comes to something like the male prostate gland. I'm glad you got it taken care of. I'm somewhat older than you (almost 69) and at my age, if you don't have a yearly PSA you're just asking for trouble. Pardon my Rant, but everytime you turn around, everyone is talking about B-r-e-a-s-t Cancer (sorry for the spelling, but the forum wouldn't let me spell the word normally) and doing walks for it and continually needling you over the phone to contribute to the research (and I most CERTAINLY think it's worth contributing to), but when it comes to the male Prostate, so far, everyone seems to be afraid to talk about it, even though Prostate Cancer is the leading cause of death in males over 45.
I've been through the same thing with my coverage. I go yearly for an exam, uncomfortable as it might be, and so far my PSI remains at 2, which I am eternally thankful for, and I make sure that even though it's enlarged, it remains healthy and working. I know this might sound weird, but I've been taking herbal Saw Palmetto for about the past 10 years daily, and it seems to help a lot.
Anyway, sorry to take up so much space, but for years I had a female physician, and every time I reminded her that it was time for my PSA she'd look at me and say, "Oh, really?" Changed over to a male physician. He calls me and REMINDS me. Frankly, there are times when it's better talking to a member of your own gender.

Tom, So sorry to hear about Lowell. On Sunday, we had to put our Westie, Jamie to sleep. He was 13 too and his kidneys were failing. He was a great little guy and we miss him terribly. Both my wife and I took the day off work today but we just couldn't stay home as everything in the house just reminds us of him. Pippa, our other westie, seems sad too. I'm sure she can sense there is something wrong as she has been laying by the front door as she does when someone is out. So Tom as you can see we truly do know how you feel at this time.
I just can't think about model railroading now.

My sincere condolences to your and your wife--we seem to be going through the same thing. Westies are such GREAT dogs and such wonderful companions. And I can certainly understand Pippa's attitude. Sometimes we forget that companion animals can mourn too. Right now, Spooky is searching the house for Lowell and meowing, looking for her furry buddy. It's hard on us, but it's also as hard on our animal companions. They feel loss as deeply as we do.
I'm going to get to work on Lowell's Memorial Caboose tomorrow, to help me through it. And I know that Spooky will be at the kitchen table helping dad get it ready (if she doesn't steal it, first!). Maine Coon cats are like that--they're kind of like dogs for cat-lovers.
More sad news I hear. Not met a westie, but pets know very well what's going on.

As far as I can tell, Curious Savage has no scene changes. I'm not convinced there's a need for one this show, and feeling redundant. But we'll see. It's slowly coming along though. A good cast.
