I just fixed that problem, so I just want you guys to know why that happened...

On page 60, Lee's post with the weather forecast came from another site. I assume it was copied and pasted directly from another source. That, unfortunately, brought the lack of text wrap over to his post.

Whenever, grabbing text from another source, it's helpful to paste it first into something that will make it truly text only. I used Notepad on my PC. I copy the text, paste it into Notepad, then cut it out of Notepad and paste it in it's final destination. It keeps extraneous code for formatting from being carried to the final destination of the text.

I hope this makes sense. If you ever see other pages that are getting blown out to the right side and can pinpoint which post is the culprit, please click the report abuse link at the bottom of that post and let our moderators know about it. We'll fix it.

It almost always has to do the the poster (the font, the length of a link, the size of an image, the width of a signature image) and rarely has to do with the forum itself.

Most of the stock numbers for Accurail are 211-#### Accurail uses the number on the car as the stock number.  So far all the cars I've built with a BLT date of pre WWII are yellow box. Those box car models are BLT 5-32 and they are outside braced wood box cars.  The 1955 TOFC kit I built was a white box and the frame was all one peice like an Athren kit and the instructions were easier to read.

Bowser kits will make your heart skip a beat, the directions for the 70 ton coverd hoppers has instructions to build the 70 ton hopper on one side and instructions for the 4 bay 100,000 pound hopper on the other.

Branchline trains use large nuts for car weights, a little unorthadox but if it keep the  prices low so be it.

PC, how hard is your ground, and will you be using a manual auger, or a power one with a tractor or such? Could be a lot of work if it's manual. (I think she got the better end of the deal in terms of work required for what she got vs. what you got, but that's just my ... 

Ground isn't frozen yet, and I'm going with a hand held power auger.

And yes, I'm SURE she got the better end of the deal!

I'm still working on my layout expansion. As I have said it is a two level part of the alyout with a reverse loop on each level. My lower level track is in place. Today, I started running trains on it.  So far, I have no problems with derailments. That means that soon I may be building the upper level.

Evening all. 

Little thing happened today.  As you might know, I'm keeping the new cat Remington in the music room until he gets used to the idea that he has a new home.  He and Spooky whack at each other under the door (paws only) and so far no hissing.  When I let Remiington out, Spooky is safely ensconsed in my bedroom, sprawled on the pillows, snoring peacefully.  Okay, THAT'S working.  I'm not introducing them until they're TOTALLY comfortable with sniffing each other.  The Rescue Society suggest two weeks since they're both adult cats.   

Now remember, locomotive case is in the Music Room.  This morning, after feeding Spooky, I put her in the bedroom.  Open the Music Room door to feed Remington.  He's sitting at the door looking up at me with a TENDER in his paws.  "Hey, daddy, look what I found!"  I glance to the back of the room where the locomotive case is.  It's open.  I glance down at the tender.  Back at the case.  There's a Mallet in there with no tender.  Tender is HERE!   I gently take the tender from his paws, go to the back of the room to the case, he's following me, 'chirping' (Maine Coons don't 'meow', BTW, they 'chirp.' you'd think a cat that size would have a 'meow' that would blow you out of the room).  How he did it is beyond me, because it's a very strong magnetic lock.  But how he got the tender away from the locomotive is REALLY beyond me, because it was a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 with one of those clips that goes from the loco to the tender.  And I never disconnect those things.  The tender is undamaged, the plugs are fine, I have NO idea how this clever little critter did what he did, but after retrieving the tender and taking both out to the garage and seeing that re-connected they work fine (well, that 2-8-8-2 pulls just as light as it ever did, LOL!) .  Meanwhile, Remington is chomping down on his chicken and beef. 

Who said he was going to bypass the cabeese and go directly to the Yellowstones?  YOU'RE RIGHT! 

Right now, I"ve backed a chair up to the display case.  This is going to be really INTERESTING!  I just hope that Remi doesn't find out how to move the darned chair during the night. 

Still trying to figure out how he disconnected that plug.

Evening Gang: Since Bergie is buying I'll have the pork loin. Has anyone told Bergie about Vinnie?

Tom that was me and from now on listen. Good thing it was just the tender and not the locomotive. I guess that was the appitizer. If that had been a Yellowstone tender you may have had some touch up of the paint.

I went in today for lab work for my appointment with the doctor Thursday. On the way out I stepped on the scale to check my weight. I'm supposed to loose 20 lbs. Well I didn't loose any in fact I gained 10. I can feel it also. I can't figure out why I can't loose even a little when I get so much excersize. I guess I'll have to try harder.

I spent the day mostly out in the shop cleaning up. I added three shelves to one of the shelf stacks. One in between each of the lower shelves. That really gave me a lot more space and I got much stuff sorted and labled in bin boxes. I even found a bunch of stuff that I had been looking for. I guess this is what it's like to be an archeologist.

They finally got the gas wekk on line again. It's been a month so the next couple of checks will be very small. No room for MRRing funds.

It's good to see Ryan back in. Of course it will make it harder for me to loose some of this extra ballast.

Morgan that's outstanding work getting into the honor society. Keep it up.

This is the all enclusive plug that snaps over locks on the loco end and has a few brass colored prongs correct? I've sperated am 0-8-0 by pulling on them. (heavy derailed train) the screw that holds the bottom latch plate on ight be loose enough to let it freeplay. I dunno.

Good evening from a newby. I too have a furry wonder who 'finds' things and brings them to me. I gave up trying to figure these things out after 'Spring' (the wondercat) managed just that very thing with an articulated I have in a display case we set up.

I even have to make sure the guy doesn't set up camp in one of the tunnels to a helix I just (Finally!! ) built. He seems to think he is the structural inspection department head here...

...Why is it when I use MSWORD as my program to write posts for the Forum, and Copy and Paste into the Reply message field, all the paragraph spacing is lost, and the thing comes up as one block of text?

Also, when that happens, merely hitting ENTER at the appropriate places in order to put the paragraph spacing back in does not work. I find I have to ENTER 4 perhaps 5 times to get a gap between paragrahps in the final post (everything looks good in Preview, but it doesn't post that way.) This leadds to longer posts than you or I, or anyone else would like. Is the answer to CUT rather than COPY from WORD? Why would that make a difference?

Didn't get much done on the layout yesterday as I'm getting used to this new antibiotic the foot doc has me on. He said it would cause some drowsiness initially. One thing I did get done was to make up a load for my 50' D&RGW gondola. It's several loco axles, some tin sheets, a bunch of knuckle coupler clones and some assorted junk.

John – With MSWORD 2003 I use Shift-Enter on my returns and things seem to work better.  I don’t have any problems pasting from MSWORD 2007.  I also changed the page settings in word to 7.25” x 10.5” (internet web page size).

 

Jeff – I hope things get better with that foot. I have a friend up here that is not going to the doctor, “forgets to eat” and is just not taking care of him self.  A group of us is taking turns with his kids going over to his house to get him back on the beaten path; the guy lost his big toe because of a blister he refused to tell the doctor about or his family.  Any suggestions on how to get him back on the straight and narrow?  It’s almost like he has given up or something.

Good morning all.

A cup of Hawaiian Kona hazelnut coffee in a chessie mug please. ANd a egg and ham sandwhich.

Tooth area still is bothersome after tooth extraction last Friday.

After also leaving the hospital after 1 1/2 weeks last Fri I was feeling over the weekend that maybe I had pushed to leave to early. I wanted to leave to the dentist for extraction then go home to be miserable after extraction. They wanted me to wait a few more days. I am bipolar and after being manic all summer, I finally crashed and went into deep clinical depression with suicide attempt. I voluntarily checked myself in to the psychiatric unit {TG we have on close by}, but they involuntarily commited me do to the attempt. The problem was really I needed to have my medications that keep me "stable" adjusted. An old medication I used to take which worked wonders and miracles at keeping me "stable" for years I began reacting very badly to, so we had to stop it last spring. Hence the start of the roller caoster of mania, that in Sept began to turn to clinical depression. It took to the end of October to hit hard on the clinical depression side, so I just went in finally. They trippled the dose of one medication we changed to, and added another. I hope it does the trick. The new med we increased works OK, but obviously not as good as the old one.

But I am feeling better now than I was. I was still feeling depressed here at home, but better now.  So maybe coming home a bit early was ok. I would have been leaving about today anyway. A visit from a very good close friend yesterday helped raise my spirits.

We have our first snow on the ground. I usually enjoy snow twice a year: the very first snow, which is usually pretty Christmas card style, and snow on Christmas Day. The rest you can have .  But this first snow lacked the "prettiness" so was a bummer.

Since I lost 2 weeks being ill, it seems TG is sneaking up on me and I am still not ready for it yet. This time of year as winter approaches is also a depressing time for me. The bipolar episode did not help.

Thank you for allowing to to "vent", if you think I did. I hope this did not make anyone depressed reading it. ANd if anyone has any questions, Id be happy to answer them as many people do not understand the mental illness of bipolar (used to be called manic/depressive).

Unfortunately there's not much you can do. Forcing him to make a change that he doesn't want to make will cause him to become resentful and downright resistive and he may just lock everyone out. In cases like this it usually takes a fair shock to wake the subject up to the fact that he has to take care himself. Take my case for example. I had settled into a routine of cleaning up my wound only when I thought it needed it. As a result an infection set in. I fought it off but then a staph infection set in and was well on the way to destroying my lymph system and would probably have killed me in another week. That was a year ago. Since then I've cleaned and bandaged the wound every day and am sterilyzing it with alcohol once a week. Just a couple of weeks ago another infection tried to set in. I went to see the doc immediatly and he cleaned it up and put me on antobiotics to wipe it out. It worked. Anything you do to get him to change his tune has to be done in such a way that he thinks it was his idea. Forcing him to change won't work.

It's foggy out here in SunnyCal today.  Foggy and cold and dreary--PERFECT DAY FOR WORKING ON TRAINS! 

Unfortunately, last night one of my blocks went all weird on me, so I think it's crawl under the layout and inspect the wiring time.  That and maybe tighten some track connections.  Ah, the joy of an un-insulated model railroad.  No shorts, just a general lack of track power.  Actually, I'm thinking of combining two blocks, since they're short and there's really no operational reason for having them separated.  I always said that I make my blocks long enough for a train.  Well, my trains are getting longer.  We'll see what happens today. 

Lee:  That pickle-jar is a pretty good idea.  I've got a jar of Manzanilla olives that I've never been able to open since I bought them a couple of months ago, maybe I'll give them to Remington and see how he manages. 

Philip:  Love that 'Senior Citizen Test'--one of the faculty ran that off a couple of months ago and passed it around the school.  Oddly enough, all of us Old Fart Faculty passed with flying colors, but you should have seen the looks on some of the younger teachers when they failed.  It was pretty funny.

Jeff:  Watch those antibiotics really CAREFULLY, my friend.  When I had my leg rebuilt I was on them, and they had to change the antibiotics three times because I kept having allergic reactions to them.  Some of them are almost TOO potent.  BTW, I like your scrap load a lot.  Gives me some ideas for filling all of the Accurail gondolas I seem to be collecting, these days.     

Well, guess what!  I just found that my Visa card company has gone BANKRUPT and all the cards have been cancelled.  Just what I need (I'm a 'one-credit-card' guy).  I've already got a deposit in at my LHS for that Z-6 that's supposed to be coming in January, and now I've got to do a total re-budgeting in order to get it.  And of course, dumb me, I put down the deposit with a credit card that is now DEFUNCT.  I called the company to find out what was going on, and got someone in India or Pakistan or Saudi Arabia who told me that it wasn't ME specifically that they were picking on, but ALL of the card-holders.  At least I THINK that's what they said, I had a lot of trouble understanding them. 

Just mentioned the fact at my bank yesterday and the clerk grinned and said, "Well, you should have gotten your Visa through US."  So I applied.  But I really don't savor the idea of a new Visa while I'm still paying the defunct one off.  We'll see.  In the meantime, I'm staying away from my two LHS's here in the area, which is sort of like going into Withdrawal.  So now I get to learn to do the same thing a lot of us are these days, the "Budget Mambo." 

Oh well--

Oh yah--Remington was NOT able to get into the display case last night.  However, he does NOT look like a Happy Camper this morning.

Hmmmnnn... I seem to have lost something in the room I'm in. AAAhhh! No wonder, the little one made of with some n telephone poles and is currently using them for pole vaulting... Right now we(my wife and I are trying to piece together a somewhat convoluted around 2 sides and down the middle layout in N scale. It is kind of, sort of placed in the 70's/80,s high plains/ southern prairie provinces area. As you can tell -- freelanced. As I am trying to work a few bugs out of our camrea I'm not able to show how far we got with it but we do have a helix that leads to a storage area that is more 'Spring's' hideaway from me... heeheehee...

Garry: About the animated posts, all I'm doing is keeping a seat in the Diner for Lupo, for when he can spend more time in here. He was a regular in the original Coffee Shop, and missed Diners 1-V. His .gif files appeared limitless. BTW, He dropped in here a month ago today and had this to say

Three cars rolled away on a side track today and slammed into a freight train on the mainline. Two tank cars of the freight train were knocked off the track. All three of the runaways derailed from the impact.
