Der, that reminds me of a I guy my dad used to know. This fella wore a patch over his left eye, because as he told it "A piece of track I was a cuttin jumpt right up and caught me in muh peeper!" I met him when I was 8 years old, and from then on anytime I was to cut anything I made sure I wore eye protection. I still do to this day.
Well I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays as much as I did. It's back to work for me tomorrow. I got lucky only haveing to stand one duty day during the entire stand down period. Some guys had to stand two. Anyhow, have a wonderful Monday.

Thanks for the welcomes, folks. That photo of a nice eggy-benny had me drooling.
I used to treat myself to the version of it they served at a Vancouver, B.C. hotel called the Bayshore. It was SO good, that whenever the QUEEN was in town, even when not staying at that hotel, she'd have someone run over a helping of it, to her.
The hollandaise sauce was quite special, had stiff little peaks on it, like you see on the really good lemon meringue pies. And it was low cal, too (about 65,000 per serving).
As I said, I'd allow myself this rich treat, whenever I pulled off a big sale. I got both rich AND fat, in the process, however.
I shoulda hung out a carrot of being able to buy myself some sort of model railroad item, whenever I done good...and still be wearing 30 waist pants.
A MODELLING comment here: some of you have no doubt seen photos of stuff I've done, on this site, the latest being to dirty up those low cost vehicles I found at Walmart for a buck apiece.
Here's a slap-in-the-head lesson I've learned, this last while: its a REAL good idea to take an extreme close-up shot of whatever you make for your layout (or just collection, if your layout is THE PURELY MENTAL & WESTERN RAILWAY, like mine)
What it may reveal to you is an overly done weathering job, or some crooked walls on a structure, or way out of scale ballast...things your naked eye just doesn't (wanna?) see.
Of course, I'm viewing the photos on a 26 inch monitor, so anything at all out of whack shows up with sirens screaming, and bells ringing.
Better YOU notice the problem and correct it, before some snarky visitor jumps on the opportunity to point it out to you.

Evening all.
It's 32* and snowing... again... I was altar serving at the 5:30 mass at church, and it was clear outside. I come outside at 6:30, there's 3" of fluff everywhere. Now there's about 5", and I'm assuming that winter break will be a little bit longer.
Oh, and chloe, I'll have the steakburger with onion rings on it, and a coke. Sounds like a good late dinner.
On the trains front, I have started building my mountain. I have a full cardboard tunnel built up, and have started weaving cardboard strips across. Eventually I'll get some plaster cloth going up there and then I'll have a ball making the scenery... It's been a fun break, I must say.
I'm also enjoying my new floor tom on the drum set... It makes playing (Improvising, rather) "Moby Dick" by Led Zeppelin a lot more enjoyable, and fun. It adds another layer of sound, and when doing triplets across the toms I have more options. Now I just need a big 22" ride...
I hope everyone had a great 2008 and will have a great 2009.

Good news tonight. We found the missing kitten. I was heading down the road to get hay and there it was in the middle of the road. It saw me coming and headed into the bamboo next to the road. I got down from the tractor and called to it and it came out mewing up a storm. We don’t know where it was, just happy to have it back.
Not much else going on. The weather is cold here today, just 29 at 7am. Tonight it is supposed to have freezing rain until sometime tomorrow. Our daughters in laws are going home to England Wednesday so we are going to try and take them out tomorrow for some last minute sight seeing. That depends on the weather.
Well it’s late and I have a headache.

Good evening to all, still cold and snowy here. And to make matters worse, now the heating system has failed. First, the zone controller. It is not sending 24Vac to the Circulator, so there is no hot water in the registers in any zone. Well, I jumpered the failed part of the system and thought I was out of the woods, but alas, the circulators was still not getting 24Vac. So a little more TS resulted in a failure in the Honeywell AquaStat. It appears that the relay or the transformer has also failed. So, used to Xr contact and spliced in a single pole switch to allow the circulator to get 24Vac whenever the furnace is up to temp. Repair service is due tomorrow afternoon, lets see now, $210 for a 4 zone controller, $76 for an aquastat, and hopefully the service contract will cover the labor...not holding my breath on that one.
I did manage to get into the new train room and assembled more benchwork.

Good morning. It's 50 and there's a light fog out here by the lake. The high today will be 50 and there's a good chance of rain. Didn't do much yesterday. Watched some movies (only have a couple thousand) and checked the wiring of my control panel in an attempt to find a short that's preventing one of my turnouts from operating. Fortunately it's not a critical turnout. The next step will be to go under the layout and search for the short. I'll have to start at the turnout and work back toward the panel. The odds-on bet is that when the control panel was moved to make room for the new heater a couple of wires got pulled enough to expose and cross them. That remains to be seen. 1) anyone know what the Login timer is set for, It seems I have to login everytime I come here.(yes I have cookie enabled)
2) more of a suggestion, There is no welcome room for the newbies. I think that would be a great acess. I have my own board (non train related) and when we have a new member we post a welcome post for them there.
3) Are the moderator labled such? or are the Undercover members?
The Members have been treating me great so far, I'm learning a lot and it's helping me greatly "BEFORE" I go spending me money.

2) I've been here since 2004 and have never seen a 'Welcome' thread. If there were one it would quickly become buried under many pages as the main page has a very high turnover.
3) There is one paid moderator, period. He has a big job to do plus his regular job so many of the members do what they can to help him. Among them are several volunteer moderators whom I will not name. If members see something amiss or someone is causing trouble it's reported to the moderators through the use of the 'Report Abuse' button in each post.

To add to what folks have already said, next to where you sign in, there is a box you can check that says "Remember Me". Make sure thats checked.

Bergie is the main man, but there are a few more that have limited powers that patrol the forums too. You can see if one of them is online if you go to the main page and look at the list of who's on the forum at that time. Mods show up in red printing.

I've been working under the layout today tracking down a short in the wiring of one the turnouts. Wasn't hard to find, just took time to correct.

That's all I needed to hear, That tells me I'm not setting my browser right so I need to checking to that. The reason I asked is that some board have minutes timer log time. I know it can be set manually.
Next.. the Moderators.
There is "NOBODY" who appreciate Moderators more than I do. As I have mentioned, I run my own Board (non railroad), The Volunteers Moderators are Great because they have an "Interest" in where they serve. I had 10 Moderators 3 Administrators and 2 Assistance Administrators All volunteers.. I love everyone of them.

I was using the Board link for the Cookie Jar to save the cookie, But you have to use the "Home Page" link in the cookie jar list for it to work.

Good evening, clody raw day here today, freezing rain this morning made the driveway fun to navigate down the 3% grade to get the morning paper. A bigger storm due here tomorrow night and all day Wednesday, 6+ inches of snow, then freezing rain "maybe" on top. We are right on the dividing line between all snow and frezing rain changeover.
I lucked out with furnace repair, only $90. We were able to use a spare relay on the zone controller, and the relay on the aqua-stat worked OK also. Good thing it didn't cost more because I need to make a HD run to get more supplies for the train room bench-work.
Got more work done on bench-work today, and with the storm coming later tomorrow, I will be out early to get the wood.
JEFF: I was going to suggest that you use the 50% rule to trace down your short circuit, but I see you have already found it.
PAUL: Amassing that the little kitten was able survive out in the wild without a rattler or Coyote doing it in. I guess it used up a few of it's nine lives. LOL
