Here's a descent shot I got this morning. Ex-Amtrak 505 running parallel to 3rd street.
It's about to cross in front of a LHS that's advertising Athearn Genesis trains for sale.
For those doubters out there, here's a closer shot of the storefront.

Jeff--nice shots! I like your backdrop--especially the big sale on Genesis, LOL!
Well, for those of you waiting with bated (baited?) breathj--IT'S OFFICIAL! Remi arrives Saturday! Yay! Had a talk with the foster owner today, I've been wholeheartedly approved--evidently the cat liked me as much as I liked him. He's being delivered sometime Saturday, so here we go.
And funny--his name "Remi" is short for "Remington". I found out today when she read the registration papers for him. So I don't have to change his name at all. Contest canceled, LOL! Now "Remington" sounds like a REAL Maine Coon name, so that's what he's gonna stay. Full name, of course, none of this 'cute' nickname shortening for me. So for those of you who suggested it--Jeff, Morgan--you WIN, LOL!
Okay, now I'm going to shut up about the cat for a while. Official Photo to follow in a few days.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

I just finished replacing a block switch on my control panel, the only plastic center-off DPDT on the panel. And it was for block 1. There wasn't anything wrong with it on DCC but on DC no power was going through it. I've got an all metal DPDT in it now, identical to all the other block switches on the panel. At the time I built the panel I didn't have enough of the heavy duty all metal DPDT's and had to use a plastic one for block #1. I think it did good to last 7 years. It was a Wal-Mart cheapee too. All the others came from Radio Shack.
I'll have some vanilla Icecream, I burnt myself on a hot pocket earlier.
Well, I got around to putting in that order to walthers to get the parts I needed. Unfortunantly, the prices went up on parts for engines made in the 90s (older GP30 and SD9) and I wasn't the original owners of the engines, so no warranty. However I finally will be able to get my GP35 externally, SD9, and 4-window wood caboose off of my bench in short order. After that I'll just have finishing up my SW15s and C424s.
I still need to get 2 3-chime horns and a pair of driveshafts. But I can get those off of epay easily.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evening Gang: Just a short one tonight. It's my birthday and Mary Ann and I are going out for a steak.
Tom that's great news on Remington.
I'm off. See you all later.
PackerI burnt myself on a hot pocket earlier.
jeffrey-wimberlyI have the two Amtrak SDP40F's running on the layout right now and they're as quiet as any Atlas or Kato I've seen. They run just beautifully.
Nice loco Jeffery, that model was the second loco I've ever owned, bought back in the 1970 something, from Trainworld for about $25.00 I recall. I still have it around here somewhere.

Paul. And many more!
Well, for all of you that might have complained about Decoders and BLI's and P2K's going whacko and having to send them back to the Mfgr. because you can't figure out just what the heck all those wires are going to when your locomotive goes down--
--here's mine. Running a train today. Middle Yellowstone (meaning the second one I bought) gets hooked up to a nice, long freight, I pull out of Deer Creek yard, locomotive goes THUNK-THUNK, JERK-JERK on the first curve near the Champion Mine. Jerks around the curve, hits the straight--no problem. Hits the reverse curve around Wagon Wheel Gap--THUNK, THUNKI, JERK, JERK.
Well, in my feverish little mind, all I can think of is: "Oh, Dang, that NWSL Universal I'm using between the first and second set of drivers has gone all blooey." Bring the loco in to the kitchen table, undo the four screws that holds the body to the frame. Nope. Universal is still set perfectly. Um. (In the meantime, Spooky has hopped up to see if Dad needs any help). Bring out test track, hook up. Loco is fine. Can't think of what might be happening. Test track is a piece of flex that I can bend anyway I want. I bend it. THUNK-THUNK, JERK-JERK. Nothing in the mechanism (Akanes are like that, the mechanism is right there STARING at you!). Hm. Check connections.
AHAH! For the first time in my entire life, the little wire that presses against the tender connection on the loco drawbar has come LOOSE! De-soldered itself from the drawbar. Okay, soldering iron. Find that. No solder. Now I KNOW I had some four days ago, I used it to put in a feeder. Find the solder. Clamp the wire back to the drawbar, use my handy-dandy dentists tool as a heat-sink, convince Spooky that she doesn't need her fur singed, she hops off the table after seeing that there are no stray parts for her to steal. Blip. Soldering done. Perfection. Take Yellowstone back out to the MR, re-attach it to 25 car freight. Smooth as silk. One happy loco, one happy loco operator.
And I didn't have to send it anywhere, LOL!
Okay, I'll shut up, now.
Oh, PS: Jeff--do those lawyers have a branch office in Sacramento? Swear to God I saw one downtown on J Street.
Tom, it sounds like you and Remi are old friends already! Isn't it strange how some animals are just so naturally drawn to us, and we are natually drawn to them as well?
And Paul.........
The community tree has been erected in the park.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL!!!
Evening Gang: thanks for the B day wishes. The supper was all right. Mainly it was on them. I had the prime rib with baked patato and ceaser salad and a glass of Merlot. the horse radish with the prime rib was really hot. The prime rib was good but I've had better. this was one of those up scale steak houses. Some times the lower scale places have better. Last night we ate at Colden Corral and the steak was melt in your mouth tender.
I got the decking done on the yellow flat and got one half of the lettering done. I'll do the other side tomorrow and then take the trucks and give them the once over and a lube and put them on the cars. There isn't enough time now to overhaul and paint them so I'll do that after the run day. All my cars are coming home from now on. I'll make room for them in the tractor shed.
Tom it's nice when the problem is easy to find. I guess you are on pins and needles untill Saturday.
I'm off.
Good Night All
Happy Birthday, Paul. Did you manage to blow out all the candles?
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Evening, Chloe - I’ll have a cup of coffee and a hot fudge brownie, please.
Thanks. And a to you, Paul! Did Mary Ann bake you a cake?Probably missed a lot over the past couple of days, since I see there’s about five pages of posts.Today, I was supposed to be in (mandatory) training (motivational interviewing) all day, and I had mentioned it to my supervisor yesterday (and she’d said she was going to cover walk-in and crisis today for me, by herself). So we’re going along and then someone’s at the door of our training room, wanting me. Apparently supervisor was slammed with walk-ins and crises, and they did go ask our clinical director before they pulled me out. But I missed half the morning stuff. Was reasonably fortunate in that I was able to get the person an admission to the local hospital’s unit by about mid-day. By then, they’d broken for lunch downstairs, so I caught a quick lunch and caught the afternoon stuff. So I guess it was good that my supervisor now knows about how my days can often be...Tom, I bet Spooky could smell Remington’s scent on you, and ‘got wind’ of his impending roomie... Won’t be long until the two of them will be chasing around the house (and maybe learning how to steal Yellowstones?)OzJim, congrats on the new house, and I hope it’s just right for everybody (and has a bit of trainroom space).Luc, I like your photo of the steamer. Packer, good that you have your SW15s pulling their own weight. Robby, nice job on the Conrail hopper there!
Heartland Division CB&QWinner can choose between a root beer float or a hot fudge sundae as the prize. (Jim CG will have a lot of entries in the contest, I bet.)
I'll be in the corner booth for a bit. Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep (including me, since I'm on-call tonight)...
Blessings,

Good morning,
Well it’s sad to see the E. M. Ford sold to the scrap yard, she was one of the last steam powered freighters up here on the Great Lakes. She was joined at the hip with the rail services. Launched in 1896 ish.
Jeff it’s nice to see those SDP’s went to a good home. What did you do with the original motor? It only had maybe 5 hours of running time on it.
Today is day one of my every 5 year military physical. Hopefully they have their ducks in a row, last time they switched labels on my lab work and I had a female call me in the middle of the night to let me know I was pregnant, diabetic, and that my cholesterol was so high they wanted me to go to the emergency room right away.
Ok I have to brush my hair and comb my teeth, maybe after I get violated at sick call today I’ll log back in and see how everyone is doing.

Paul - a belated Happy Birthday - must have been asleep in the back booth again. Any cake left ?
PC - yes we have some arcane jargon, but no worse than the trunnions, muff joints and gaiters we deal with here.
Back to the house for more demolition this weekend. We still have some bits of wall and the flooring on the basement slab to deal with but I haven't felt up to it these last few days. Hope you all have a good one. CUL, J.R.
Good morning
