Good evening, cloudy, raw, and some rain today here, but snow cover is still hanging on. I think I will have an eggnog with Captain Morgan please Cloe. Tomorrow it may break the record for high temp if it hits 63F and it will come very close they say.
Started getting the layout tables re-assembled, but one interruption after another prevented me from getting any tables actually assembled...I hate it when that happens! One issue was the dual MRC power pack. This dates back to the '70's and a train set that we bought for the boys one Christmas. I have a dual track running around the Christmas tree, and one locomotive stopped dead. The outer track ran fine. It turned out to be what I think is overheating of the xformer for side 1. After a rest period, it worked Ok again. I suppose a rectifier diode could be beginning to fail also.
ROB: Sorry to hear about Bacon Bits, pets are just like family for sure.
JEFF & PAUL: Thank you for the advice on word wrap here on the forum. I believe the problem is IE ver 8 beta. I have Firefox running now and no issues with words running of the page to the right.
JIM & MIKE: The weather channel was indicating some dangerous weather conditions in your neck of the woods, I hope you missed it all.
SUE: How is "White Cascade" coming along? Hopefully you more time now to finish the book.
Have any of you guys watched the new series on the History channel called " Extreme Trains" ? What a great show this is, every Tuesday at 10pm here on the east coast.

Oh, you're right on that word - I recall it was called "Robin Hood and his band of merry men"...

Yes, it's a U-boat. The santa Fe paint stays.
Yeah, the pastor brought up Robin Hood and his merry men.
Well, I've gotten all the track I need, and layed both it and my ground throws.

Good no damage for you Jim and Ray, our sump pumps running every six seconds but no overflow yet.
Garry by now you are already in it so be careful. I can’t wait to hear what your present is.
Der- Glad to see you are fine. I hope this storm heading east peters out before it gets to you. You don’t need it. That knife looks great. Probably has a good feel to it when cutting I’ll bet. We do stockings also.
Paul- hope our wind is yours, give you a break.
Thanks BC I’ll wait and do some research before wishing you the same. Don’t want to offend anyone who might be peeking in. ROFWLOL. Aawww who cares Happy New Years to you too!
Went to the city to get the wifes bedspread she didn’t trust me to pick out. (smart woman) and had to turn around a go back home because of the weather. By the time we got back the worst was over. So we went back in a few hours later. Now I’m home and happy. So I guess I’ll have a piece of pecan pie and a glass of milk, sit back and relax for a bit see who blows in..maybe even Give me a nudge if anything exciting happens. Whoa here comes the wind again. Wow where did that come from. Now it's gone. Weird.

Rain has stopped (early afternoon) but the temperature is currently 48°F and will only go down to 47°F overnight. Yesterday we had 6 to 8" of snow on the ground. Right now the lawn is quite green........ We got close to 1/2" rain this morning also so there are puddles everywhere. The incoming water has slowed down in the basement but the sump is still running every 4 or 5 minutes.
blownout cylinderRay; Do you have a dehumidifier down there?
Running! I am also going to leave some heat on overnight to help dry it out faster. Hopefully should be dried out by tomorrow night. BTW we are going to get some strong winds tomorrow and tomorrow night (gust over 50) with some showers as well......
Its too warm out to fire up the wood stove today so the house feels cold at 68°.
Stay safe and warm!

Yeah, it's just moving in now.
Evening all.
Spent a very quiet Christmas with Remington and Spooky, since the weather precluded any family being able to make it down from either the Sierra or Washington state. Actually, since the weather's improved around here, we're planning on having a New Year's Day gathering instead.
I did my annual Post-Christmas raid on my LHS, and the place was PACKED! And not with people exchanging things, but actually BUYING stuff. Bruce had his full crew on, and I kept running into crowded aisles full of fellow hobbyists. One little boy was jumping up and down as his father was buying Lionel track, saying "More, Daddy--MORE!" Kind of warmed me up a lot, evidently daddy came throuigh with a Lionel for him this Christmas, and it was time to expand the empire. And Daddy had an armfull of HO stuff, so I think I see another father/son thing growing. Hey, whatever works!
For myself, I raided the new Roundhouse ART reefers and cleaned them out (buy it when you can GET it, I always say! ) and found a really neat ATSF cement hopper from Atlas, which when I took it to the counter, Bruce mentioned that the 'build' date was 1957, which was 3 years past my modeling era. They take good care of me over there . I shrugged and said, "The heck with it, I'll use a spare tiny decal or rub it out with some Bragdon weathering chalk." We got a good laugh out of that. He also told me that he was going to call Sunset after the 1st and confirm the mid-January delivery date on my new Z-6. Yummy! When that monster lady arrives--PHOTOS!!!!! Eat your hearts out, UP Challenger fans, because one of the Ultimate Monster Mothers of all Alco 4-6-6-4's will be MINE! YEAH!
Left the music room open this evening while I went out to play Holy Family Vesper Mass, and when I got back, Remington had dragged the Bachmann On30 loco from the Christmas tree layout into the living room and was sitting there with a "Look What I Did, Daddy" smile on his handsome feline face. Spooky just shrugged: "Don't blame me, Daddy, the little Fart did it on his own!" Thank God that stuff is STURDY! Not even a bite-mark on the smokestack. I still think that he and "Spring" are e-mailing each other after I'm in bed.
Well, Remington just hopped up on the computer to start to let me know he's hungry, and Spooky just hopped up and whacked the Big Fellah as if to say, "I'm older, I'LL tell him!"
Zoo time.
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Good Evening Guys and Gals.
Our heartfelt wishes go out to all of you who are battling the elements in one way or another. Our weather here has moderated, the -30C has warmed to about -11C today, so that was quite pleasant really. The forcast for the next week is about the same as well.
I wanted to let you know about a DVD I watched the other night. More than likely a number of you already know about it. It has a 2007 date on it. It is called "Rails & Ties" starring Kevin Bacon. He is an Engineer who's train hits a car where the lady wanted to commit suicide. Lots of good shots of the F units and the surprise was that he has a model railroad in his garage that you get to see quite a bit of. It is a good story that for the most part is believable. There are a few things that are more than questionable, but all in all not a bad watch. Do not expect an action film here, but a good story never the less.
Worked late tonight as there was a youth banquet for the members of the youth Parliment that is staged every year between Christmas and New Years. Very nice to see the youth dressed up so nice and behaving like true ladies and Gentlemen. I think maybe there is hope for our countries.
Glad to hear you all did so well from Santa. There should be a great buzz coming from all the train rooms for the rest of the winter.. And we really have been spoiled lately with all the good grub in the diner. Thanks to all the sweet Ladies for their baking goodies, I could almost taste them.
Not much has happened on the Last Mountain & Eastern for the last month but have high hopes that will change here in the near future. My dear Wife got me an Atlas GP-40 in the WP. bi-centenial colors #1976 for Christmas. Fits right in with my time frame. Don't think I will weather it, just leave it bright, like right out of the paint shop.
Well I'm off to bed, this has been a long day. So blessings to all in need and sleep well.............

Good to hear from you Johnboy. The Upper Thames Conservation Authority has just passed on a flood warning for the region involving the upper and middle Thames, Pottersburg and Cedar Creeks and the Avon river. It is expected that low lying parkland as well as other lands will be flooded--Sunningdale Rd is already flooded with some other rds in the vicinity being flooded and/or washed out in one way or the other.
Rain--heavy at times--is expected as well as a lot of melt-off from snowcover so there we have it---
Well with this fine news I'm heading off to
Hello and a late Merry Christmas to all!
Sorry I couldn't get in, for one, there is two feet of snow on the ground, and next, my little brother has taken control over the computer, playing some sort of game.
Christmas here was a bit interesting with the divorce. Mom's side we had Christmas on Christmas Eve, at her mom's house. Then we had Christmas on Christmas day until 10:30, when I went to my dad's and then to his mom's.
I got some MRR stuff for once. $50 gift certificate to the shop, 2 PFE reefers, a meat reefer, a stock car, a boxcar, and a pullman standard SP red stripe (TOMATO!) 10-5 sleeper. I also I got some figures, including dogs&cats and such.
I also got some movies, a couple Xbox games, some money, a cell phone, a snare drum head, some drumsticks (Not chicken), and a big floor tom (18x16... it's awesome.)
Well, time to hit the sack.

Mornin' everyone!
Just another beautiful day here in the Finger Lakes. The Weatherman is calling for:Windy. Showers early becoming widely scattered by the afternoon. High around 50F. Winds SW at 25 to 35 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.
We got 1.2 inches of rain over the last 2 days as 6+ inches of snow melted. Bet the Fire Companies have been busy pumping out basements. I haven't been down there yet this morning but did open the door and take a look. Couldn't see any standing water.... That's a good sign.
Flo, some Dark Roast coffee in a R&GV Museum mug please. Also some bacon and a short stack of French Toast with NYS Maple Syrup. Thanks!
Gotta take my shower and head to church, last Sunday as Head Usher, thank goodness. I like doing the job but December is difficult to get people to volunteer. Have a great day!

Lee: Have you received the package yet? If you need the postal information I can send it to you in a PM.
Good morning. It's 43 and partly cloudy here. The high should be around 60 and it will be cloudy. My new glasses came in yesterday morning. Yay, I can see again! Yesterday afternoon I went over to my niece's home to help her on the remodeling she's doing. I spent most of my time measuring, cutting and helping her and my sister to install crown molding in the master bedroom and hallway. There's still the second bedroom, bathroom and part of the hallway still to go. At about 8:45 we called it quits and went to my sisters place to dine on Christmas dinner leftovers. I had one of her enchiritos (the size of a paving brick), 4 beef tamales, some beans and a salad with a glass of lemon tea. I finally got back home around 11:30 last night and went right to bed. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/28/2008 Wind Chill: 39°F Humidity: 74% Dew Point: 35°F So Far Today High: 51°F Low: 43°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 8mph NNE Today High: 60 Cloudy...cooler. Temps were great.....NO GLOVES IN DECEMBER! The wind wasn't bad in the morning, but it did pick up in the afternoon some. My bike is almost 700lbs dry, so it's pretty stable in those winds. There were quite a few other bikes out yesterday, but I noticed those with lighter bikes went home earlier, 'cause I only saw the bigger boys out playing later.

Good morning everybody. Its just a very windy day today. not to cold, just windy.
I didn't touch the layout at all yesterday. Kinda went to the malls and other stores. I will work on it some today after the Steeler game.
I need to work on my fantasy football teams. One game left and I need some good points from my team. Its free so I am not worried about losing any money.
The wife is going to help me finish up the backdrop, later today. I am hoping to have the upper part of the layout done this week. I will still add some tress, and what nots, but as far as track its done. It was just a basic loop. Nothing fancy.
Well stay warm, and keep out of the wind.

Well I did it. Put my attempt at weathering on display and found that STREAKINESS happened. I thought I had it out but--- ---not quite. I'm going to have to be a little more careful with those washes and such.---I think the trucks look like they got into some low lying spots---eeerrrgh.
I'll continue the job----maybe next time---heeheeheee
Practice makes perfect unless you're practicing something wrong, then practice makes permanent. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.
Late Merry Christmas!
Dad says we are going to bring out my layout this coming week. I picked up MR Mag last night; looks good. The one time I don't make a Christmas list and I for get to ask for a boxcar to practice weathering on. I'll have to console myself with Madden '09 (for the time being ).
Finally got around to getting my football picture onto photobucket:
We didn't have our pads in our pants, and those aren't my original shoulder pads (coach had taken them up, we had to just grab a pair, and #77 got mine before me)
Still have some Muffins? Blueberry preferably? and how about some links? Oh thank you girls. Your lifesavers. Oh, sure, I'd take some butter.

It'll do a good cloeup shot if you back off a few feet and then zoom in using the optical zoom. I got decent shots that way, but lighting can be tricky then.
Jeff:
Haven't seen the package yet, maybe it will show up this week, but I doubt it. My STUPID mailman prob dropped it off at the wrong house again, but hey he is showing improvement; after my last complaint he learned that even if I didn't have mail, but the little red flag was up he should stop by my house anyway. I guess he didn't understand the concept of picking up mail.
