 Mornin' everyone!

Currently 33°F outside here in the Finger Lakes with a high around 40°F.  I would expect that the roof will be it's earth brown color again instead of the current white by this evening....

As soon as I finish my morning coffee, I will be out the door to set up sound for the Bell Concert this afternoon.  Nice thing is I may be able to be packed up and back home by sunset if I am lucky.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Sawyer- sorry you lost sounds like the game might have gotten a little rough at times. Why the age difference?

Yeah, it did, lol. Like I said, hit the floor a few times in the 1st period. would have gottens ewriously ticked off if my dad (our coach) hadn't pulled me several times for about a minute to calm down. The age difference is because the church I play divided its two teams into the older guys and younger guys in the age group, our team is the younger team, and I guess the other church did the same thing, and the age group I play in goes to 16.

EDIT(!): (This is what I get for not reading the thread through before replying to a post.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLBY!!!!!!

 Birthday Balloon Happy Birthday,  Colby.

Good morning, All.

We had a dusting of snow last night.  I think that we were on the south end of it, so we probably didn't get as much as Mark.

Happy B-Day COLBY!

Just got back from the train show at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, OH and I would recommend it in the future, however this was the first show held at this location and there was room for improvement.  The show was mostly filled with Lionel and large scale train stuff with only 5 HO-Scale vendors (and only one had decent pricing).  I think once the word gets out and more vendors move into the show it will fall in the top 3 shows for the area.

What I walked away with:

Walthers Jordan spreader (new), 37 pairs of Kadee couplers (new), Michigan Central 50’ Express Reefer, 8 #6 left turbouts (used), and 3 #4 right turnouts (used).

$6 admision.

Spent:  $60.00

Well I did it, posted my first pictures in WPF. Learned the lighting in the room isn’t good for pictures and like I said needs lots of work. But small steps. Actually looks better in pictures believe it or not LOL.

Oh and Lee I re-read my comment to you about your train show purchases. It does NOT read the way I meant it. As I learn to communicate in a forum I learned that humorous sarcasm does not come across in type the way it does in person.Sign - Oops What I meant and should have just said was "sounds like you got some great buys". I hope you didn’t take it just the opposite. Please accept my apology if you did.

Evenin' Folks!

Just got home from the Smith.  Nice concert, very easy to handle the sound with everything working the way it was supposed to......Smile  Got there and the stage manager said, "Hey Ray, if you want, you can use our new board instead of yours........."  Turned out great!  Smooth response and nice clean sound.  One less thing I had to set up as I have been using the house sound for the last several years substituting my board for the little one they have.  They have a large JBL Pro speaker system all tuned for the house, so I just set up mics, monitors, and plug in.

Now I have the rest of tonight and all day tomorrow to work on the layout!!!!! YES!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Oh "Hippo Birdie" Colby!!!  16 huh?  That was the age where I new everything........  Sure wish I still did! WhistlingConfused

Pepperoni Pizza, please & thanks.

***Sue, I love that movie "Mars Attacks".

***blownoutcylinder, we have plenty of chicken houses in the area here. We really don't have time to be scratch building much either, so would like to find a ready made (or simple kit) of them if available? BTW, real nice photos you posted.

***Inch, that might be what we end up doing, a long warehouse type structure. Can always add a couple little feed silos to the front, fans, AC units, etc on the sides. ((( I won't burst her bubble regarding her dream layout, I'm thrilled that she is so into it to begin with. )))

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Colby" There use to be an icecream shop that on your 16th birthday, you could go have a free sunday & get kissed by one of the waitresses. Would you believe I still remember the name of mine? Actually, we attended the same school, so she kissed me in the school parking lot the next day.Wink

Wife continues to find more HO structures she wants online. Yikes, she has become a monster. For every model she pics that is identical to one of my own, I'll sell mine off and put those funds towards more N Unitrack. Even with ever shrinking plans for my own RR, there is still a shortage of track for it.

Hope everyone is doing well this evening.

Evening Gang: I spent the afternoon at the train show in Ft. Worth. I bought one Bachman "G" scale wood ore car. It's kind of a tradition with Brad of Brad's trains that he brings one of them for me to each show. I've got seven of them now and will quite when I get ten, maybe. His prices are 50% under list so it's not too bad.

My amin reason to go was to get dealers and exhibitors for the Clark Garden show in April. I got a very positive response from a good many of the people there. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Colby. Happy B-Day Did you get kissed?

Rob maybe you need to consider going to HO. At least that way you would get some room. Really it's great that your wife is so interested. Well so long as she doesn't run you out os the train room.

I'm getting tired of using the puter with it on the floor and the keyboard in my lap. This is not what I call a lap top.

I see that I got the top a couple of pages back. I wa woundring why my credit card company called and thanked me for all the business.

Time to hit the bed. It's early but that show and all the talking about our show wore me out.

Tall glass of lemon water, thanks.

***Philip, if I forgot to mention it, Nice Bike!CoolThumbs Up

***Paul, IF I were to start over completely from scratch and KNEW I was going to one day have a train room, I have to admit I would most likely go with the Huge Oversized scale. Whistling Too late for that now.

***Lee, Kato Unitrack for my N and will incorporate Atlas Flex to make longer runs more interesting.~ Wife's HO is Bach NS EZ track all the way.

The coyotes are whooping it up at the edge of our back pasture tonight. Unaka, (our big old male Pyrenees) had just come up from that way, too. Finished the last critter rounds so I'm done for the night.

Rob; I came across something by Alpine Division Scale Models called a furniture factory (metal. I am assuming it is a kit) measuring 4 1/2"x12". It is a shallow roof 1 storey building that appears to be still being dist. by Walthers. Would that work?

Whistling

Well guys and Gals it is time for bed, but before I go I thought I would

leave you with this history lessons involving Trains and horse's nether regions.

[]

The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet - 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used?

Because that's the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US Railroads.

 []

Why did the English build them like that?

Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used.

Why did "they" use that gauge then?

Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

 []

Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing?

Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that's the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So who built those old rutted roads?

 []

Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (and England) for their legions. The roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts in the roads?

  []

Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

 .    []

The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications  for an Imperial Roman war chariot. And bureaucracies live forever.

So the next time you are handed a specification and wonder what horse's *** came up with it, you may be exactly right, because the Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two war horses.

[]

Now the twist to the story...

[]

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs.  The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory at Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses' behinds.

[]

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation  system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse's ***.

[]

..... and you thought being a HORSE'S *** wasn't important!

[Alpine Division Scale Models called a furniture factory]  I'll look it up tomorrow. Thanks!

***Sue, my favorite line was "ack ack, ack ack"Laugh and remember, "I want the people to know that they still have 2 out of 3 branches of the government working for them, and that ain't bad." Jack Nicholson sure did a good job with his two characters in that movie. I didn't recognize him at first as "Art Land". That movie is a hoot.

Hello.....

We just returned from an afternoon and evening in Clarksville, TN.  The Christmas lights along the Cumberland River waterfront are very nice.  Beer and Pizza at the Blackhorse Saloon downtown there is very good. In our little town here, the best pizza is at the Godfather franchise at the gas station. Hence, we made the drive to TN for pizza with some friends.

No model railroading accomplished today.

Colby ........ Happy B'Day!

Todd ... Congrats on your first WPF post.  It looks outstanding.

John Boy ..... Thanks for sharing the track gauge story and the roll of horses.

Cheers everybody......
