Hey galaxy, hope you start feeling better. I've already had 4 teeth removed in my life, my wisdom teeth about a year ago, lol. Of course, they put me to sleep for it, but they still hurt for that week (it was the monday before thanksgiving and my b-day, but I still ate wings, turkey, etc. on that thursday).

All this talk of teeth and today one of my teeth is becoming very sensative to cold. Not sure what that means but hopefully it will hold off a good while. Not up to any new extractions right now.
Wedding was OK, excellent food, of which I ate my share. If I wasn't already married, one of my wife's single friends...oh my, can't believe she is still single. Something has got to be wrong with her, but heck if I could figure it out.
The contractor got most of the lights up, except in the train room. You would think he would be familiar with installing track lighting. He called me twice trying to figure out how/where to put them. I'll probably just put them up myself tomorrow. Oh, and then I switch on one fan & it wobbled horribly. They didn't "set it" in the groove. Still has some wobble to it, so I'll have to figure out what else they didn't do that they should have. Just add it to my list.
On a bright note. it rained some more today. Still in drought conditions (water table) so the more it rains, the better. Rob

Sheesh - a fella gets kept out of the Diner and it's on page 2 - twice!? Had a long day yesterday, person at a local jail and it was in that time of the day when it's hard to catch a judge (after they leave their office , but for most of 'em, before they've got back from dinner...). Found out that that police department's fax machine wasn't working right, and had to go over to county jail and fax it from there. Finally did get done around 6:30 p.m. Boy, I wish I got overtime...
Rain yesterday and some rain today (but mostly low clouds, and colder and breezy some. Good day for hot cocoa, all right! Supposedly we might've had a (very) few snow flurries, but after the rain lately, it isn't gonna stick to the ground. The water on the ground might be frozen by morning, though. Predicting a low around 30 tonight (F).
Rob - how's your horse doing? (hopefully, healing up) Hope your wife doesn't read your posts over your shoulder, after that one about the wedding... Hey, at least now since the wedding you have a suit, so if you need to go to another wedding, you're ready. And how much longer will it be until you get to move in? - maybe Thanksgiving in the new digs?
Lee, maybe you could tell me - how do you organize the freight cars you can't fit on the layout (and staging yards)? I'd figure you'd (and later, I will) be running out of track to put them all on. Have you built drawers under the layout or staging yards for storing all the extras you aren't using? Or what are you other Diners (with more finished layouts than mine - that'd be about 90 percent of ya) doing or planning to do for the 'overflow'?
Got a bit of good news related to our MRR club tonight - our LHS owner and member emailed us that one of our club members (newer fella, who'd dropped out recently due to his finances being low, on limited funds and unable to work now) has notified him that things are somewhat better for him, and he wants to rejoin us. The new guy's been a hard worker, and when we've been doing layout stuff, he's always been there, so it was great to hear he'll be coming back.
Mark, that'd make one killer treehouse! Might be a bit tricky to model that, though...
Terry - how'd your show at the house go? Lotsa visitors? No gremlins (we should wish, huh?)
Galaxy, after the doctoring you've had lately, I'd say it's time to take it easy for a li'l bit and get healed up. I don't blame you a bit for wanting an early checkout time from the hospital, even if it might've been a little premature. As for Thanksgiving, if you get the jellied cranberry sauce, maybe you could eat that and some mashed potatoes with gravy. Or put some turkey meat in the blender? Hope you rest up and get better.

I stopped by H-L today with my 40 percent off coupon, but couldn't find much to get. I may have almost all of the W-S figures that they carry. Well, except for the fishing and swimming ones, which I haven't figured if I can really justify for the Southwestern area of my RR, and one figure set that looks more like they're from the 30's (wide rim hats, overcoats, etc.). Hmm... maybe I could have a couple of them in a seedier part of one town, offering 'insurance' to the neighborhood shopowners... Hey, Vinnie, c'mere - I need to get some tips from you for an idea I have....

It's quite cold here this evening. We have a 10-15 mph coming across the lake that gusts up to 20-25 mph. That makes the current 45 degrees feel more like 30. Anyone out on the lake today was a certified nut! We had waves rolling in over that were almost a foot high. Out on the main part of the lake they were around 2 feet high with white caps. You ain't gonna find this redneck out there.
Evening Gang: I had John help me haul the new cars over to the track today. We got them all on the track and I got the diesel out and fired it up. The engine was doing the same thing, surging. I made a run out and back and got it to run all right at one throttle setting and the trans mission full forward. One of the guys took the train on a run and it worked all right so I was hopping that it would be allright.
Mary Ann and my family had a surprise birthday party for me. John cooked burgers and hot dogs on the grill and we had cake and ice cream. I really wasn't expecting anything. The guys sang happy birthday and we had a good time. John took the train out again with one of the gang and his son. They came walking back. the locomotive quit at the farthest out point. We got Terry's diesel out and they took it and pulled the train back. I guess I'll break down and get a new engine for it. It's smoking alot also so I'm really tired of messing with it.
All in all I had a pretty good day despite the loco pooping out.
Well I guess I'll head for bed.

I now have laid the track for the lower level of my layout exgtension. It is about 50 feet of track. The upper level will have about the same amount.

The only reason she was asking for the Snub-Nose was that she saw you eyeimg up her Sister. LMAO. Glad to hear that your horse is doing OK dispite her aging and all. Keep us posted. In regard to the train room floor, until you fully decide what you want in there the Big Box Stores have those "Fatigue Mats" that are either 2x2 or 2x3 interlocking mats that really help the lower limbs for us guys who are older than dirt. An they arn't expensive but work well.

Larry's new rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter 30-06 with Leupold scope. We will take in down to our shooting range in the lower field tomorrow.
In regards to the snub nose revolver, look at the Ruger SP101 in the new 327 Magnum caliber. It hits about as hard as the 357 mag, but only kicks like a hot 38 special. You get a 6 shot instead of the 5 shot with the 357 (like mine).

The show was great. On the way there, I saw an origonal Santa Fe Warbonnet C44-9W without BNSF patches, still saying "Santa Fe" and not "BNSF". That was pretty cool. At the show, I bought a lot of stuff... lol. I bought an ATSF boxcar, blue box, 4 atlas hoppers, 2 GN, 2 CB&Q, a 6 pack of athearn PFE reefers, 3 digitrax decoders, and, to top it all off, a Rivarossi 2003 edition DCC-ready FEF-3 4-8-4 #844. She's a beaut, even better looking than those genesis ones. And, to seal the deal, I got it new for $150. I can't wait to go back to mom's house to run her and my cars on the layout... Got to test her at the club, she is nice and smooth, handles 22"s like a champ. Man I need the City of LA now for it and the challenger to doublehead on...
Jim: That would be a fun treehouse...

May I finally introduce you to Remington, my new Train Cat:
He's a 4 year old Maine Coon male abandoned by his previous owner at the pound, and rescued by a local Maine Coon society here in Sacramento. He's been 'foster owned' for about four months by a wonderful couple in Cameron Park, and arrived at my house today. He's shy, affectionate, and is right now investigating the house to see if he'll like it here. I think he does. After about a week, I'll introduce him to Spooky, the resident Maine Coon, after they've had time to sniff each other through various doors. He's tall, HUGE feet, weighs about 16 pounds, and is just handsome as all get-out. I think it's going to be a good match. Hey, Spooky needs a Stud Muffin, and Remington seems to fit the bill.
Very cool thing, the couple brought him down from Cameron Park, and when the husband saw my model railroad, he flipped! Seems he's a train buff himself, so I ran a train for him. Luckily, I happened to have one of my Yellowstones parked with 20 cars in the yard, and of course, she ran perfectly. That, PLUS Remington turning out so mellow, just kind of made my day.
Can't wait for Spooky to teach him how to steal cabeese.

Jim, I do have under layout storage for excess rolling stock, I have two 3 drawer plastic drawer units on wheels, one holds all my scenery materials and one is a temporary storage unit for rolling stock. Fox Creek yard has a 70 car capacity (double ended yard) and Swan Creek yard will have a 50 car storage capacity (staging for the port terminals). It sounds impressive, but I’m modeling the 1950’s so the average car length is only 40’. I may build another hanging display unit for the passenger cars as off track storage.

Good morning. It's 34 and clear, wind chill of 30. The high is expected to hit around 60 and it will be partly cloudy. I put my KCS covered hopper in line yesterday (first time I've had it on the rails for more than a photo) and it kept derailing. Odd behavior for a new car. Upon inspecting it I found that the trucks were too tight and weren't allowing any rocking motion. I loosened each truck screw a quarter turn and it rolls along perfectly. I also changed out the couplers on a few Bachmann cars. They still had the EZ-Mate II couplers they came with. I replaced them with Kadee #148 Whisker couplers. They look so much better now. Today I think I'll come up with a load for one of my flatcars. It looks so useless with nothing on it. I believe I have an old RS-3 body in the junk box that I can cut up and weather. They are too modern for my timeperiod but I use them when the grand kids show up I let all that wanted to operate do soEverything ran smoothly with no derailments The Grand kids didn't show up because they went to the Texas Renaissance FestivalBut I had a friend who came over and helped answer questionsHe took his assignment seriously and did lots of research on the C&O and the Thurmond areaand gave every visitor a short presentation on Thurmond and the Loup Creek BranchI received a lot of complements on the scenery and structures and how the whole layout was a great application of an around the wall layoutOne of the favorite items was the Tape cassette box tops i use to hold car cardsSeveral people said they were going to steal that ideaWish you all could have been here a Fellow poster CW Clark drove over to Houston and We had a great visit !

Replaced some track yesterday with some new track, and man what a difference. It did lap after lap. No problem. I still have some more pieces to replace but that will be later.
Hopefully Tuesday I will finish up the engine with the extra details. I will get some shots of it next WPF.

Train show in Dartmouth was less than brilliant, but Fergie was just leaving as we arrived, and Kris got to meet him, so that was good. Only stayed an hour. The layouts were same old same old, for the most part; and looking more tired as the years go by. Although there were none of the N Scale stairs I’d hoped to get, I did score a few small craft. One of those, suitably dressed up with radar and whip aerials should do for a port inspection vessel. Lee can then do his inspections for Transport Canada…the weather’s better here Lee, for the moment!
The chap who gave me the Z Scale freight car to get wheels for the crane two years ago was at the show. I wanted to get the crane put together so I could take a photo in to show him how it’s coming along, now it’s painted all blue. Had to re-design the doohickies that suspend the power cable out along the boom. Didn’t get that done, so had to content myself with photos you’ve seen. He remembered the conversation 2 years ago, and was appreciative of the progress shots. The other purchase was a few sets of letters going for $0.50 per sheet, and I can use them almost anywhere (Railroad Roman, alphabets 3xwhite and a black one, plus 2 sheet of yellow strips, different thicknesses, that will do fine for warning hash marks around the layout (probably the dock first.)
